The glowing eyes in the mini-series were achieved with fluorescing contact lenses and a blacklight. In some of the tight close ups you can actually see a purple glow on their faces from the light. A side effect is if they turn their head too far left or right, the glow drops off almost completely.

I started reading the Dune series in 1980 and finished God Emperor in 1983 when I was 18. I saw Dune (1984) in the theater when it came out and bought the DVD as soon as it was available. It is still my second favorite movie after Buckaroo Banzai. The lack of respect for the movie just shows how far the rest of the human species has fallen.
@beden653 Back in 1984, maybe 1% of the people I knew even had an inkling of what the source material was. At that time, most adaptations embellished the story for various reasons. I take the movie for what it is, not what I thought it should be.
Lynch's Dune taught me that sometimes poetry and splendour can be more important than making sense. 😂 It's a literary audio-visual experience -- it doesn't need to be a great adaptation. Internal monologues ftw. It saddens me that I've seen more visually compelling sets on stargate than the villeneuve movies.

Denis Villeneuve's version is boring and washed out. We are in the middle of a wave of DV fanbois who won't allow any actual critical thought about the films. I'm fine with all the story changes. I read the first book so long ago, I remember very little of it - and while of course I noticed quite a bit, it didnt ruin anything for me. Maybe I would have liked if they at least MENTIONED mentats at all......
Respect for the film? The same as the film's respect for the source material?
@beden653 Back in 1984, maybe 1% of the people I knew even had an inkling of what the source material was. At that time, most adaptations embellished the story for various reasons. I take the movie for what it is, not what I thought it should be.
Lynch's Dune taught me that sometimes poetry and splendour can be more important than making sense. 😂 It's a literary audio-visual experience -- it doesn't need to be a great adaptation. Internal monologues ftw.
It saddens me that I've seen more visually compelling sets on stargate than the villeneuve movies.
Not even Lynch respects this film 😂
@@vanyadollyI agree. There are so. Many things in the 1984 version that no one would dare to try. And those things make That adaptation so captivating.
Clear to me the dude reviewing it missed the point or has a different sensibility to appreciate that movie.
As great as the 2000s miniseries was, damn did it feel like a big Command & Conquer cutscene (especially with Vlad). I guess that’s fitting, though, considering C&C was based on a Dune RTS.
Just offering a defense to woke sex flipping.
Deep breaths
Denis Villeneuve's version is boring and washed out. We are in the middle of a wave of DV fanbois who won't allow any actual critical thought about the films. Lynch paid more attention to the actual mystical tone of the stories and his version is definitely more fun and it has the added benefit that he doesn't butcher Chani and Aliyah and screw up the possibility of delivering a satisfying Dune Messiah.
Correct.
Maybe you just prefer the books.
@@Zomon9 it goes FH books > Lynch film > DV film > BH books
Bro boring …if that movie is boring then gladiator is boring and the Godfather is boring. It seems like boring movies are good movies.
@@gamerecapped2105 comparing DV's Dune to the Godfather. please read what I said about uncritical DV fanbois above lol, give me a break. if you've somehow never read the best selling scifi novel of all time I could see how the story is thrilling, especially when you realize it was already lifted once for Star Wars. DV's only contribution to the story was to present it as safely and commercially as possible, and then breaking it in the end
I don’t like it when things become popular so therefore I elevate older adaptations that are objectively inferior. Oh wait that’s your fanbase.
Dude no body read no more
DV Dune is the worst of the 3. Visually impressive but that's not saying much
