Hearns made $1.2 million and Barkley got $500,000.
    Hearns was a 2 to 1 favorite.
The fight was shown on pay-per-view by TVKO.
The fight took place before a crowd of 4,250 at the Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion.
Hearns landed 217 of 578 punches (38 percent), and Barkley connected on 224 of 904 (25 percent).
After the fight, Hearns underwent surgery for bone chips in his right hand. He wore a cast for about seven months. boxrec.com

Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
    Fair use
Additionally, the fair use defense to copyright infringement was codified for the first time in section 107 of the 1976 Act. Fair use was not a novel proposition in 1976, however, as federal courts had been using a common law form of the doctrine since the 1840s (an English version of fair use appeared much earlier). The Act codified this common law doctrine with little modification. Under section 107, the fair use of a copyrighted work is not copyright infringement, even if such use technically violates section 106. While fair use explicitly applies to use of copyrighted work for criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research purposes, the defense is not limited to these areas. The Act gives four factors to be considered to determine whether a particular use is a fair use: the purpose and character of the use (commercial or educational, transformative or reproductive); the nature of the copyrighted work (fictional or factual, the degree of creativity); the amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used; and the effect of the use upon the market (or potential market) for the original work.

Barkley took everything Hearns threw at him.
For every punch thrown, one came back.
Can't imagine taking those kinds of hard punches and still standing.
    Hat's off to both fighters.

IZ3ZVO Ettore: Barkley neutralised hearts right hand with that powerful left hook of his . Hear a forced to be very sparing with it. How Barkley stood up to those hearts left hooks to the body is a complete mystery 😯.. Barkley also slipped the h JV an very well ie he had an answer to all hearts Arsenal! Hearns’s ‘ bogeyman’ alright.
Obviously the move to light heavy suited Barkley strength wise too .

Tommy is my favorite fighter of all time. He could have used his superior arm reach, but would inevitably get into brawls. He were amazing to watch. If he could have understood his advantages physically, he may have been the best, but the kid wanted to fight. Love the guy, wish he didn’t take so many blows on the inside fighting. Still my fave

A Tommy Hearns fight was always action packed, but his weaknesses were sometimes his downfall, namely: 1. He was most dangerous in the first few rounds, but his power and stamina would start to fade as the fight continued. 2. His ability to take a punch was questionable. He could get hurt or knocked out with a decent head shot. 3. Whenever he got hurt, his thin, spindly legs would wobble and have trouble supporting him. Notwithstanding these weaknesses, Hearns’ early round power and ferocity was frightening. Very few fighters could survive those early rounds.

Wow, oh wow! In my opinion one of the best bouts ever to watch. Gave boxing fans the ultimate compliment by hardly ever resorting to clinching. Almost like they had a gentleman's agreement. Each boxer absorbing punishment from the other whilst they regathered their own energy for another flurry ad infinatum. Both gave their best and slugged it out toe to toe, never backing away from ea h other. If only all bouts were like this. A spectator's dream. They both must have been so beat up after that. Congrats to the two of them. Such great fighters. A draw for mine for the effort they both put in! Wow again!!!

Duran being a brawler with more heart than Barkley proved trouble for Iran. But then Leonard beat Duran. Goes to show you to throw out the numbers and stats when it comes to warriors like this. To be honest Barkely was getting outclassed in their first fight and was on the verge of being stopped. But in the rematch, the weight suited Barkley more and his all out pressure (which he didnt do in the 1st fight) really paid off. Hearns needed footspeed to beat Barkley here, but at his older age and fighting at LHW didnt help him.

Duran is known for giving in to his vices. As we all know from Duran vs Leonard II, Duran could get sluggish easily due to his lifestyle & if he slacked off in training.
After Duran fought Hagler, Duran trained more because he was missing stamina that he needed in later rounds. So this man was training hard before the fight with Barkley. When he finally fought Barkley, he was probably in one of the better shapes in his life in a long time.
I really would like to see a trained Duran go against Hearns. I think Hearns would win but it would be a more interesting fight.

Styles definitely make fights. This is a classic case of a guy like Hearns who relies on his punching power to bully and intimidate dudes going against a guy who can take a punch and is also relentless in his own attack. Unfortunately for Hearns, he can't take it like he gives it. He's affected more by Barkley's punches than the other way around. What Hearns should have done was box and move out of the way. Hagler was successful against Hearns for the same reason. He wasn't afraid of Hearn's punches and could take them, but also put on a relentless attack that Hearns couldn't stand up to. This is what happened to Tyson vs Holyfield. Once somebody shows they can take your punch and at the same time is stalking you throwing punches all night, it kills the bully.

@@davidkeller2832 You're totally missing the point my friend, it's not so much the amount of times Hearns was KOed, it's just that he suffered some Brutal Knockouts from Barkley, Hagler and Leonard (to a lesser extent) which in that fight really showed for the first time that Hearns did not have the best chin. James (the heat ) Kinchen almost knocked him out back in 88. Hearns had one the THE most powerful right hands in any weight (personally I think he could have KOed some Heavyweights) but later in his career he had a tendency to try to get his opponent out of there quickly with that powerful right hand (like with Hagler where Hearns almost succeeded ) but if Hearns was not successful he was sometimes prone to get into trouble later in the fight.

Back when fighters fought hard and not just throw enough punches to win a round

    • @jtoddjb
      @jtoddjb 3 роки тому

it was the judging that changed during that time. After we lost the championship rounds people had been clamoring to make boxing safer and the powers that be didn't want to lose sponsorship's, TV money, and later pay per view money, so in an attempt to keep the safety punks happy they started scoring fights more like they do the amateur fights. Scoring points to win a round became more valuable than taking the fight to your opponent and landing shots that hurt. Now a guy can get hurt several times during a fight and land nothing but pitty pat punches while covering and running yet still come out the clear victor in the modern eye. I personally don't recognize any so called champions after they did away with rounds 13-15. The shift in the way fights are judged are what makes the "fights" we see today. It's really just a show now and not a fight at all. Modern boxing has more to do with the WWE than classic boxing in my opinion. There was a time when you could never win a single fight by running, covering up, and never once hurting your opponent. Now it's the best strategy to be one of these fake champs. And look what it's done to the sport? At one time boxing and baseball were by far the 2 most popular sports in America. Even housewives who'd never watched a fight could name the champions of at least a couple of weight divisions and everyone knew who was the heavyweight champ. It was even debated back then that boxing was even more popular that baseball. How many so called champions do we have today? About 5 per weight division depending on what belts get recognized by who. I used to love this sport with all my heart, but now I can't even recognize what little is left of it. Sorry for the long rant. It's been building up in me since the 90's

Hearns was never the same after he moved up from welterweight. He was a great fighter, but not an elite one. He had a glass jaw and suspect defense. But man, could he hit.

Hearns was never the same after the Hagler loss, he was elite at 154.

Tommy fought too big of a guy . Only Duràn can move up without consequences

Consequences like, say, getting ktfo by Tommy Hearns?

Or Duran knocking down Barkley whom had just kicked Hearns butt ?

Michel Tanguay First fight: lucky punch, maybe the luckiest ever. Second fight: split decision. It's true, he lost twice against him, but sometimes it's a matter of luck. Hearns got unlucky twice, IMO.

I can’t believe this comment section 🤦‍♂️.Age is what clearly beat tommy hearts. He didn’t have the same pop on his shots and he wasn’t as fast and he was super flat footed

The young Tommy Hearns would have Ko'd Barkley who could really take a punch. Tommy's power wasn't there like you wrote.

Age and but weight. He was a great WW. He lost mobility when he got older and fought at higher weight.
