This Saved The Fire Department Thousands Of Dollars!!!

- A local Fire Department was given a $20,000 quote to fix this hydraulic leak. After talking to the department I told them that I could save them a lot of time and money if I did the job so they dropped it off at my shop. It took a few weeks to get everything rebuilt but it ended up costing a quarter of what they were quoted and it got their much needed Fire Truck back in service pretty quickly.

Good job! Now back to putting out fires and saving lives, said the truck!!! Fun video!
Merry Christmas Dr Lee..... Any new videos ?
Another job well done Stephen!!👍🇺🇸
Tell Chuckie we miss him!
NICE! That's going to be a whole new service area that you will grow for years to come.
I worked on a 65 foot 1986 Pierce Telesquirt years ago. I replaced the pressure switches on the outriggers and hydraulic lines elevation. The pressure switches were quoted at $350 each from Pierce. The same brand switches from the local hydraulic shop was $140 each. There are some parts that you have to get from OEM but you can save $$$ by shopping around.
Thank you for helping a smaller volunteer fire department. Most are severely underfunded. I'm sure that community appreciates it as well. A real win-win situation for you and the community.
I was surprised there wasn't a washer behind the cotter pin in the main cylinder pin.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and say his to chucky we miss his channel. Happy Trails
My chief didn't appreciate me or the money I saved. What a goober.
Victaulic o-ring fittings . I’m sure that’s probably the brand name. But 50 years ago that was how all bulk liquid pumps and plumbing was set up. Great 👍 content.
I was hoping you’d show us it in action.
Come to Michigan, you can fix our fire trucks! 😂
Is that @DieselCreek and his $700 crane?
In Camden-Wyoming, De. we had a 1985 American La France 85' snorkel/tower ; she was a good one. Talk about poop and fly, she could. Had a v8 detroit diesel 10 wheel chassis with a Century series cab. Bought for $85,000.00 what a steal compared today's prices. Today we bought a used Pierce 95 ft tower ladder for $200,000.00 and thought we were ahead and spent $133,000.00 to fix things up. Then had to fix the engine detriot diesel (two pistons and sleeves $11,000.00), then the repair garage caught on fire and we hoping the truck burned up too; but the local fire was quick. Then the transmission had to worked on $4,000.00; boy we are buying a new truck piece by piece.
It's always nice when the Fire Department can save money. They can always use the money they save to update other equipment or help the neighborhood with.
I would like to see more vids on these trucks.
Stephen Cox. I don’t know if you’ll see this but we have one of the largest manufactures of firetrucks right here close to Baton Rouge Louisiana. Ferrara fire trucks.
Great repair......you’re an asset to the fire department! Thanks.....Jim
Okay you about sold me on that electric ratchet. Can't wait for a long term review on it!
Great video, I’d never know how any of that apparatus works otherwise. You helped them and got to make some money in the process and all parties were very happy.
I’d like to see more of thee types of repairs.
Awesome always good when you can save FD money
Yes, Stephen, more fire truck fix & service vids. I have wondered how fire trucks work, down in the guts, pumps & pipes. I was a school bus mechanic for 4 years & engine, drivetrain & lube certification technician/ welder/fabricator at a big research firm & love all things mechanical! Keep up the great content, Blessings to you.
Great video. I was a volunteer firefighter for 21 years. And I’ve been a paid firefighter for 12 years now. Love your channel, attitude and content
Nice to see my old stomping grounds... I moved to Florida from Weatherford a couple years ago👍
Very cool video!
I once toured the E-One Fire truck manufacturing plant in Ocala Florida!
It was awesome! I recommend it!
I was a volunteer firemen we had a house fire one day after we got it put out on clean up I was walking around the back side of the house I was walking around the back side of the house And saying a piece of glass stuck in a tree From when it back backdrafted earlier
Hey I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 I was wondering what can cause the transmission lag witching from first to second gear
Did you have to bleed the hydraulic lines of air or do they self bleed out the air?
Extension bleeds the outboard end. Retraction pushes the air out the inboard end. Job complete, except for topping up the hydraulic tank.
Best wishes
@@carlthor91 Thanks for the info. Take care
Well said.
YOU make it look to easy. Great video and thank you for sharing with us..
Thank you for your services!

In the Greater Manchester FRS in the UK we had one in the mid to late '70's called a Simonitor but found it shockingly unreliable. Glasgow Fire Service in Scotland used them and called them the Scoosher. Most if not all brigades have stopped using them in favour od Aerial Ladder Platforms which is a "one size fits all' ladder, hydraulic platform and aerial monitor which, in the long run, is far more cost effective and versatile. Nice repair.
Dude you need to check out squatch253 he's currently rebuilding a old 1st generation cat D2 and he's rebuild a bunch of other types of equipment he's even got a prototype Minneapolis I think it is he's working on. Anybody else reading this you need to check out squatch he's awesome.
A feel good job on the fire truck. Win- win! Have you worked on any of the Ford 3.0 Diesel F150? I have one and haven’t found anything wrong with it.
I sure hope third party load, timing testing, pump/waterway testing was done after this repair, no way in hell I would assume the liability on this . NFPA 1901, 1911, and 1071 is very clear on the who what and where aerial devices should be maintained and the credentials of those having authority having jurisdiction. If your certified by the manufacturer to service this device that's one thing, if your a general service technician your liability will last the entire time this aerial is in service, first time it fails or a firefighter/civilian is hurt God help you in litigation...
Maybe corrosion isn't a concern in Texas. On ships, after testing new hydraulic hoses for leaks I always put a heavy coat of rubberized auto undercoating spray on the fittings.
Hey love your videos and content, just wondering if you could recommend any software program for running a service truck business, I’m getting ready to start but would like something with the ability to give the customer good info and also to be able to keep records of vehicles and repairs for future use . Thanks for any advice
What's it got 4 a motor?...
Detroit Series 60
@stephen cox I have a video idea. I am 32 and I am starting classes at my local community college for a Diesel technology associates degree. I am also a veteran so this is free for me. My video idea is about people deciding to change careers into diesel at my age or older what is your experience with this? Do you know of people that have done this? And if it is something that should even be considered in 2021 as a career. I have done my research and I excited to be starting classes and join the field. Coming from a experience person like your self this could help a lot on what your thoughts are on this.
This makes me not afraid to do a big job for this type of equipment. Thank you!
I seen you worked on a t190 skid steer. (2years ago) would that be kind of the same deal for a 94 case 1845c
I really loved this video .
That fire truck ladder was tall!!
Love the video, my fire station has a Telesquirt 50 just like that one. Good to see the workings of how it does the job.
I was a retained fire fighter in the UK 82 to 1990 My main job was heavy tow truck operator , I Joined the fire service after recovering one of the trucks ,then I started working on the fire trucks mainly service work as they couldn't find some one with Hydrolic experience , I loved it but Now to old and broken .
Now back in Australia retired after getting ran down by a meth affected driver at a walk crossing ,,, Thanks for the great Videos Steve
Merry Christmas To you and your Family From all over here
Rob
That ratchet you took out for your sponsorship looks like the crappiest chinese junk.

Enjoyed this one Steve keep up the good work.
Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.
Thanks for posting. Great video thank you for your explanation throughout video. Nice work by the peanut gallery as well.
Love the firefighting equipment videos and oddball hydraulic work! You're just down the road from us, so good to see a local gettin' it done!
Ever have a blowout on a different area after a hydrolic repair during testing because the old weak spot became strong causing a different weak spot to fail?
Your other links do work just not the camera link.
Safety harnesses OSHA approved for the ladder climbers, Teflon pads don't wear out like plastic does after one use.
20 grand don't go very far on heavy equipment repair. Boom lifts and telehandler repairs are spendy
Rubber fitting is called a victralic

Thanks for the video!
Yep, use what you got, to heavy to push by hand, get gravity to help!!!!!
Well done! Good Job!
We need more chuckE videos!!
Long live Squirtle 30
Grear job
What a really good egg you are!
Hi
Excellent work!
Appreciate you taking care of our first responders (professional risk takers).
Merry Christmas!
Aloha
It’s a scary thought of my sister. Even being near any kind of power tools. LOL 😂
when they climbed the ladder.. this is the scene that was playing in my head.. ua-cam.com/video/LlCb41nelD8/v-deo.html the almost to the end of the almost 5 hour long original cut of the movie.
It’s great to be able to help out smaller departments like you did with this truck. I’ve done some work years ago for some of our local police and ambulance vehicles. I look at the work done on those vehicles as doing my part to help keep our community safe by ensuring our first responders can get there as safely and quickly as possible.
Love the videos Stephen! I could swear that was Chucke's truck in the beginning of the video in the lot there!
Love the name Squitie Thirtie
Squirtie
Nice work...
Awesome
This is a great video ! Keep up the great work !

I sure hope the Fire Company has the apparatus tested after the repair to have it recertified as per NFPA.
I’ve been lovin these videos!
