Last week i went and see my daughter's concert. I was in front row seat. In the middle of a piece i had to cough. I fought hard not to cough. I had a couple of very soft cough to release the pressure. When the piece was over my face was all red, my face covered in tears...while everyone was clapping their hands i was finally coughing. I had never tried to prevent cough from coming out of me. It's very painful and even breathing is close to impossible.
I almost asphyxiated myself being determined not to cough during the last duet and chorus of the Britten War Requiem. And I was in the choir. Had to mouth our final words as I would have exploded if I'd sung. And being on stage, I had to appear as if everything was just fine. Agony but what a triumph that I made it! The applause was never more welcome. Thank you for your effort and suffering!
