Do you have a wick to get water from the reservoir to the plant or do you just top water and wait for roots to reach out to the water in the reservoir?
Hello. I am wondering how do plants get root rot in LECA (fillling the pot with water completely) when the roots developed in LECA are water roots? water roots do not rot in water correct?
Plants don't actually grow different types of roots, they just grow roots that adapt better to the environment they're grown in. Basically, if a "water" root is grown in a high oxygen environment (like running water) and move to an environment with less oxygen (stagnant water) it can cause root rot, even if everything else is the same. It's the same with Leca. If the roots are growing in leca are above the water line and suddenly go under it, there's less oxygen, so there's more of a chance of root rot. Hope that helps.
The problem i have with leca is :the plants are never stable and stand up properly !! I listened to you for years and moved many plant to leca , which i regret ! Many plants died and the rest are not doing well
Oh I love your videos, I am also doing only semi hydro and you give so much advise! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Good info as always Nora!
Thank you!

No wick in most cases. The leca brings the nutrient solution up using capillary action.

I would love to unpack this with you. Can you hop onto my Facebook group semi-hydroponics with the leca queen for a discussion?
