@de'travon washington From 1900 to 1962, Republicans were Mayor of Detroit for 50 years, Democrats 12 years. Republicans were mayor when the city was thriving.
Is it worse off than most major cities? Yes. Is it as bad as people make it out to be? No. I'd much rather drive through any neighborhood in Detroit, and I do for work, than drive through the south side of Chicago.

+Tnb Spotter Could also be a model for what happens when businesses put profits above everything else. GM put a finance guy in charge of the company for the first time in the 1970's and he had no clue about engineering. He didn't understand that cutting dollars did not translate to the best designs. But GM was king back then, so they thought anything they did was OK. They did not respect their competition and did not respect their customers. I suspect their fall impacted Detroit
DavidisDawei No, that's not it. GM and others moved production to the American south, Canada, and Mexico because it costs too much to operate in Detroit. Foreign brands also set up production facilities other than Detroit. If Detroit wanted those jobs, they would have provided tax rebates, right-to-work laws, less crime, etc. like other cities that want to grow their industrial base. Instead they chose social issues, and abandonment is what they got.
Tnb Spotter I cannot spell out every detail. That is One factor included in putting profit above everything else. Would you buy a GM product? I sure as shit wouldn't unless it was 50%+ off.
DavidisDawei I do drive a GM product and have been doing so for the past 22 years. Other than lots of small thing breaking during the first year, they have been just as reliable as the Japanese cars I have driven. Are you one of those people that think business runs on altruism?
actually im from detroit and my life was good living there i have some past moments that i wish i could forget but its still my home town and nothing will change that it is a beautiful place and nothing can change that.
+Roy Hoeksema compared to cities full of rich retards who think they are better then everyone would you wanna live in a place thats always "up tight" you probally dont even live here you probally just hear things it's really nice
@Jeff Lane Thats a damn lie ! Mississippi and Alabama are prospering, except maybe in the Ms delta where more blacks are cocentrated . Get your facts straight before you pop off !
You know your city is doom when Pyongyang, North Korea looks better then yours. This is what happens when you have 50+ years of democrats and when your jobs are taken by Asian countries.
It got that way because of nepotism and police brutality not everyone got a job in the Auto industry my grandfather and then my uncle Paul Jr were the only two out of the household on Parker St were hired so it wasn't like all black people more than 66 percent at theplants we're whitewith blacks doing most of the menial jobs at the plants the big four and Coleman young destroyed The D.
Duhhh Asians didn't "take" the jobs, it was American corporations that took manufacturing overseas. And they aren't coming back. It's called globalization, read up on it.
Detroit was once a properous city. This is what happens when corporations are allowed to ship jobs overseas instead of keeping them home. Okay the auto workers got to big for their britches but does that justify selling out the american worker and crippling the economy. The unions in the sixties were collecting payback for abuses in the forties and fifties. This is the result. Now their children and grandchildren don't have jobs and the city is pretty much dead. What a shame.
+NuclearGrizzly The USA is a shadow of what it used to be. The citizens of this country are some the most naive and insouciant populace on Earth who actually believe what they are told, but they are boiling frogs and will never wake up - it is ballgame over - save yourself and your loved ones - the majority are a bunch of gong show losers dependent upon the givernment's teat
Exodus/Steady - Senses Leader I lived in a part of Boston called Dorchester when I was a boy. As a male, you knew you were going to have to fight other kids (city life), but I Never worried about getting knifed or shot I don't know if it is because of video games or drugs, but now, a bloody nose or a fat lip is not the worst outcome. Kids today have many advantages thanks to technology today, but the family unit, parenting and our society have gone to the dogs.
Exodus/Steady - Senses Leader If you have the cash and the patience, Detroit may be a good long term investment. There are some beautiful buildings you might get for nothing of you agree to fix them up and pay taxes. You could also re-develop entire neighborhoods if you wanted to create a community. Or you can buy and hold - I suspect the Chinese will be there in the next 5-10 years; their foothold into the USA -
Okay so here’s a rant.... I love Detriot Michigan Heck I love Michigan In general!!! I may be young but I moved when I was 8 I was born and basically raised part of my life I moved to California. California’s nice and all but I miss Michigan I visit every summer but my heart is defainlty there. If I’m not talking to anyone and I’m alone I honeslty start thinking of my home state and how much I miss everyone there!!! Yes it may not look like the best city right now but I promise it’s getting better it’s home!!!
bruce preston Yes but unlike Detroit, Alabama has enough white people keeping the city some-what stable and working. The same goes for Mississippi. New Orleans was incredibly close into turning into another Detroit believe it or not, all the white people almost jumped ship after Hurricane Katrina, but it managed to keep it-self afloat and is still repairing it-self to this very day.
Im watching this in 2019 so im sorry if this sounds a bit later than the video shows but Detroit is being revitalized as part of USA, a lot of new buildings and infrastructural improvments are going on right now and I expect it to get a lot better in the years to come. Stay strong Detroit.
my cuz used to live in Det. a few blocks from the Central Michigan Railway station which was closed in the 1940s. I had a friend in the UP of Mich..he was showing me his ak47 but the fun bit was his tshirt...it read, 'welcome to Detroit..now go home"
I was born and raised in Detroit. I am a Whitey. No bad how you think Motown is now, it was a nightmare in the late 70's. My parents both Detroiters couldn't stomach how far down the African Express the city deteriorated. It was once a gem of a place to live, until a certain ethnic group became the majority.
+Dee Donner Ramone i know the feeling, as a fellow white/ashkenazi/hispanic guy, i also live in an African American majority city, it is hard being the minority :(
+Dee Donner Ramone,,,, My mother use to live there but she didn't want non of her kids to be from that shit hole Detroit so she moved to a big and beautiful state and City
Fantastic...Detroit will bounce back when the Chinese arrive in a couple years. They will rebuild Detroit and make it the first Chinese built American city. It will have have the newest and best modern infrastructure
I drive an 18-wheeler cross country. Last year I picked up a 50 yr-old black guy who was hitching on I-80 in NJ. He was a nice guy. I drove him all the way to Toledo Ohio, for he was on his way to his sister's house in Motown. He lived in the Bronx for 15 yrs and Detroit for 15 years and he told me that he felt safer in the South Bronx at 2AM then he did in Detroit at 2 in the afternoon.
+1957wade Plenty of rot and decay in largely-conservative parts of America as well. Take a drive around downtown Lubbock, Texas (one of the most conservative cities in the U.S. and teabilly ground zero) and you will see what I mean.
Say what you want about Detroit, I have great memories of Tiger Stadium, the river front, Greek Town, the RenCen, Red Wings and much more. I've never been afraid to walk the city and have never had a bad incident. The people I met in town, at the bars and restaurants were friendly and kind. Detroit has gotten a bad rap from people who have never spent time there - including the maker of this video
Detroit was the silicone valley of the first 70 years of the 20th century, highest per capita income in the country, job loss and white flight has left detroit a shit hole,
I read several years ago about a Vietnamese family in Detroit whose 2 kids were tops in SATS in the country. Very often, reliance on government leads to the decimation of family and this one reason why the USA is crumbling
The creepy soundtrack you put in the background was a very nice touch, David. Very scary what this Corona Virus has done, but as always you’re on the front lines bringing us the inside scoop. Thanks for the update- stay safe out there!
Yes - I could not believe how empty Detroit was... This was filmed in the Summer of 2013, but I agree with you about the impact of Government and Corona on our country
GameAddict51 Sure, Detroit or anywhere else. If businesses continue to suffer/go under and Federal money gets reduced, cities are going to be scrambling to pay for its services... property taxes will probably increase significantly. Lots of elderly people are forced to sell because their fixed incomes can not cover tax increases. I know various people spending $1000-3000 Every month in property taxes... Americans do not really own their property. Stop paying your property taxes and see how long it's your property... When you factor in how much you paid for a "house", total cash out - most property is not worth owning IMO
Can't be too bad y'all over here every weekend trying to get street cred.. y'all love coming over here. Than got nerve to ask for direction.. they don't teach you how to read a map in canada or how to use Google maps..
I've never been to Michigan, but watching this video gives me the feeling that you'd have that very eerie feeling in the pit of your stomach, while driving through Detriot
+Stevie Bernardoni You need to stay alert in any city, but I was extremely curious to explore and see the city for myself. As long as you keep moving, you should be fine. Michigan was State #49 for me to explore (not counting stopovers at Detroit Airport over the years). Michigan is a huge State with very diverse terrain. You drive a couple hours North out of Detroit and you are in farmland, then you are into the Lake resorts and wine country. You then cross into the UP or the Upper Peninsular up to the Canadian border. I never thought much about the State, but Michigan is well worth exploring.
I'm proud to say I'm from Detroit I love it there I'm getting ready to move back it's better than where I live now people of Detroit are the most realest I'll go into any hood at anytime no worries here
What you called a tram is actually a people mover that only serves the downtown area. Unfortunately, the city didn't have much vision for it; they could have extended it outward like Vancouver's Skytrain.
The oil and auto companies disbanded trolley/train systems across the USA and replace them with gas engine buses, so I am not surprised that Detroit did not add a subway/metro even though it would be better for the rider in the Winter months or when there's heavy traffic
@@DavidisDawei my favorite part is the remodeled downtown area. The sports complex with all 4 sports stadiums located in 1 spot and surrounded by bars restaurants and casinos
What was the point of this video? To make fun of the city & the people who live there? Detroit may not be the best place ever but you never truly know what it's like until you live there. Please don't think this is an accurate description of my city. p.s. I highly doubt this was recorded in the afternoon (at least the downtown scenes). I am downtown EVERY day & I never see it that empty unless it's early in the am.
Legaahgurl321 I suggest you post your own video then if you want to show something different. What you saw in this video is what I saw on that time and date. I was there a portion of ONE day and detoured over to see Detroit since I had not had the time to do so before The reason I record videos is to capture memories. I talk to the video camera to document time, date and whatever I'm thinking or feeling at that time. It is much more accurate than my memory over time. If I mention a specific day or time, it is accurate. If I don't know, I'll say "I think it is so and so day or time" Do the Tigers play in the early AM? Look at the sun and the shadows on the buildings/ground. How well do you know Detroit? Clearly, Detroit, like MANY cities across the USA, are in trouble and do NOT have a solution. I do not recall making fun of anyone, but I will say that you will never improve anything if you continue to think everything is A-OK.
***** The downfall of the "American" society has been in clear view for 40 years. What you see in Detroit is across the USA now and will probably get worse. The citizens of this country accept spending trillions of dollars to bomb foreign countries and pay banker bonuses, but then fight tooth and nail not to maintain and invest in their own country for all of its people to enjoy. It is a tragedy
You can make any City look horrible when focusing on all the bad you're on the Eastside of Detroit hardest hit still very nice areas in Detroit the east side will return make Detroit great again 2022 mark my words one of the greatest cities in the 🇺🇸
The footage is not doctored or manipulated. Just a random drive around Detroit. Most of this was downtown or to the North and West of the Downtown/Sports complexes - Not East I think Detroit will have a resurgence when the Chinese are brought in and take it over.
I went to Detroit for the first time over the summer and it was just depressing of how big of a city it is was just so runned down like this city used to be booming 50 years ago as the automotive capital but they say it is on the rebound and when I was there they were reconstructing some of the buildings so hopefully Detroit get's back on their feet
+RC Tech Thanks for the update/input That Summer I drove across the Northern USA and you could see where the economy was going for most of the country. The only areas booking were in Energy and they looked like temporary gold/wild west towns - that will disappear as quickly as they arrived; The USA is is serious Trouble - we cannot create enough jobs that pay a living wage for a majority of workers now
To answer your question , no. I've traveled a lot and honestly Detroit is not the worst city I have visited there are a ton of activities, bars, restaurants and high end luxury lofts. Detroit does have some dangerous areas like with any city. The onr thing that I will say about Downtown Detroit is that driving can be confusing .
+Nicky 1234 sorry Nicky - I don't recall my question... I agree, there is a lot of upside and potential in Detroit, but don't expect an immediate turn around - I think it will take the Chinese to come in and pump a lot of money into the area
stop socialist policies and political correctness...focus on individual rights and a great business climate, not tax tax tax and spend, and entitlement programs
grizz tough Absolutely - Smaller Government will always lead to a more productive society. Instead of playing Robin Hood, Let individuals decide where they want their money to go.
grizz tough There are many reasons for the City of Detroit's decline, but Obama is not one of them. But you are likely a teabagger who gets his info & talking points from Breitbart Glenn Dreck, Lamebaugh, and Fox Spews.
riiiight, like it being controlled by liberal dems for the last 40 years, like the corrupt school unions, kwaaaammmmiiiii... colemen, and the FACT numnutz, under obumer black poverty is UP 22%!!!!
The main drags don't look too bad. I lived in downtown Pittsburgh for awhile and after 6pm there wasn't too many people milling about there either. After work people go home.
That's a sign of an unhealthy city. Plus keep in mind Pittsburgh is less than half the size of Detroit. Detroit (or any city) should be bustling with activity at 19:00 in June.
I can't believe that I've sat back and watched this entire clip. maybe because, I've once dated someone who currently resides there and she always refused to take me on an virtual tour of Detroit. I really enjoyed watching the clip because I am more than certain that I would never ever in life be going back to Detroit anytime soon...lol - Thanks for the posting!
If you like sunny beaches, ancient architecture, yes its bad. On the other hand if you are into zombie or post apocalyptic movies and especially into Last of US, its very interesting. So, Detroit is not for everyone.
+Kyppy84 The architecture of Detroit is fantastic. too bad a lot of it has fallen into such disrepair. If the infrastructure was up to date, it would be great too because the roads are wide (multiple lanes) and built for the auto. Not sure I would want to be there in the Winter though
DavidisDawei Yes, Pistons are planning moving downtown. They built the Palace of Auburn Hills as a private financing on budget. I don't have some evidence but it's probably because of Detroit's bankruptcy but I might be wrong. So maybe that's why they moved outside Detroit and opened a new arena and started playing at the Palace since 1988-89 NBA season in Auburn Hills.
I went to Detroit back in 2003. Even back then I thought it was pretty depressing, although I met some really nice people there. I just kind of felt sad for the place.
just another fine example of liberal progressives attempting to create their workers utopia and ending out in the zombie appocolips!!! keep vot'n democrat to help the poor people!!! geez thanks unions and gov...we love you too..
+Liberals Are The Racists (Conservative Knight) I'm in NH and all of the politicians are here this week before the primary election. US Citizens expect these politicians and government to solve these issues, but when they find out government only creates problems, it is too late...my point being your observation is accurate - and hundreds of thousands of "Detroiters" voted with their feet and moved
my kids graduated from detroit schools. both speak french they leaned at their school(FLICS) foriegn language immersion cultural studies. my grand daughter go there now. great school in a good neighborhood. my son had been at the top his class all through his 12 yrs of school. was on the deans list at Mumford H.S.. graduated college with a degree in criminal justice. still fluent in french. a child will lean if he/she wants to learn. and we didn't live in any of these shitty areas you show.
Absolutely, a student and their family makes a big difference. Did your kids stay in Detroit or move elsewhere? I'm sure there are exceptional students and exceptional families in Detroit. I recall reading about some Asian kids a few years ago who went to Detroit Public high schools and scored 1600 on their SATs. Didn't I drive near Mumford when I passed the University Campus located a few blocks from Tiger stadium?
The 50's were the peak of Detroit's prosperity. I don't understand why the automakers allowed Detroit to fall apart the way it did. They were making so much money and had so much influence back then, they definitely had a say.
4:46 everything on the left side of the road - all those empty lots have been replaced with the new Red Wings arena. 6:19 that whole area is the new arena - and no, the town would not probably give it to you to fix it up. In fact the Ilitch family slowly bought all of it over a 30 year period in secret to build the new Wings arena. Those empty buildings were worth millions.
Thanks for the update Jama, I think I talked about my observation during the drive that the city was attempting to bring all the sports teams into that same vicinity...reminded me of circling the wagons. It is a bad plan when a city relies on games/sports teams to stimulate an economy, but desperate times require desperate measures.
All of you people who think Detroit is trash its really not. I went to the Rise Up ELCA youth gathering and it really is a beautiful city this video doesn't show it all.
amazing how baron and desolate it is... I couldn't blame you for not driving into the estates.. Rated America's most dangerous city.. kinda spooky. I wouldn't get out of my car in a fit!!
What if I said I was white? Grew up on 7 mile and Livernois most my life! We weren’t rich but always had food, clothes, everything we need, most people I went to school with didn’t give no problems. I kept to myself and talked with my select few. The only weird thing to happen to me in the city of Detroit was walking down Joy Road and someone asked me if I wanted to buy weed! I declined and went on my way. Usually you’ll be alright if you’re not looking to buy dope, don’t be disrespectful of others. The Eastside of Detroit has always been rough but the Westside has its spots. Downtown is great! Downtown Detroit has always been nice! Coleman Young did a lot to revamp downtown back then! I wish Mayor Duggan would be more engaged with the neighborhoods but it’s what it is!
This video is nearly 3 years old. Do you know how much development the city has gone through since then? The vast majority of the abandoned buildings in the video have either been razed or are occupied now.
I haven't driven around Detroit since then, but have had others commenting with similar information. I have heard the Chinese are buying up entire neighborhoods.
Damn I live in Alaska so the price of living is very high, I've been looking at the different price ranges for houses in the US and I thought Detroit holy shit! that's dirt cheap! They have cute brick houses even mansions for $4000. So I asked my self is Detroit really that bad? Is the crime really that bad? So I'm glad I saw this video, cause damnn.
On the bright side, it probably has hit bottom and over time, perhaps it will come back... especially when the Chinese start running it. Don't all people living in Alaska get a check every year from the government from oil proceeds?
I really hope Detroit gets cleaned up! Yea about that money us Alaskans get. If you have lived in Alaska for at least two years you can apply for the PFD and get a little cash before Christmas, and yes it's from the oil proceeds.
Detroit has been run by Liberals (black and white) for so damn long that when they have the mayoral race it doesn't even INCLUDE a Conservative or a Republican!! That's right, from out of the box it's Democrat vs Democrat. And some wonder why it is a cess pool. Having ridiculous drug laws doesn't help the situation either.
Thanks for driving me through Detroit. A lot of fascinating history and memorable architecture. It certainly deserves a revival! Enjoyed your commentary as well! You are a pretty brave guy if you went through all of that without a bodyguard! LOL Sorry I was so useless, just sitting there gaping at the sights! Glad you got me back home safely too!
I visited Detroit back in 96 when I was a teenager . Coming from London Ontario . The Maple Leafs tickets are so expensive and the Red Wings are cheaper . I miss the Joe Louis Arena
When I was there, all of the stadiums for baseball, football and hockey were relatively new. They put them all within walking distance to each other. Great for the bars and restaurants in that area...not so great for everyone else
@@simonmarshall19 I said back then that it was only a matter of time before the Pistons moved downtown. They are circling the wagons. Make that part of Detroit fun and renovated...just don't drive a mile in the wrong direction
I have a friend who was wearing a T Shirt that read: welcome to Detroit, now go home...and this while he was showing me his AK47....best to leave town before dark :) be sure to have your doors locked. it's getting dark and you are on a side street! Grand River & Livernois used to have used car lots for miles. My cuz bought a 48 Ford back in the day. Well, we are seeing this so you made it out alive..."out" I heard a bit of Canadian accent -
granskare Wow - thanks you hear an accent, eh? haha - I like Canada very much, but I'm from the USA. I found it sad and upsetting, not dangerous, but I don't know the place. Like most US Cities, if you are looking for trouble, you'll find it and sometimes it finds you. Did you hear about that poor girl in San Fran who was shot in the face?
DavidisDawei that "oooot" for "out" is surely a Canadian accent.....I used to live in Upper Michigan and I think all of us had a sort of Canadian accent. Nice to know you survived Detroit :)
AndreaCipo92 oh,sorry - that was more than a year ago, I don't know him well enough to know his songs, but I recognized his voice.(it was a well known song) But I thought it was funny that I'm riding down 8 mile and his voice appeared
Just an update. A lot of these places have been either revitalized or torn down, especially in downtown Detroit. There are still a lot of places I would never go to willingly even in the daytime (highland park!) but downtown has a lot of new businesses/companies, housing complexes and sports arenas that either built new facilities or moved there. Wild to see how much has changed in only 4 years, but it feels like a bandaid to a much bigger problem. Hopefully the number of people who move in will sustain these new developments or else I have no doubt it will be in worse shape in 20 more years.
Great video brought back memories and a lot of sadness.I spent my first 30 years in Detroit before moving to Florida.Detroit was a great city back in the 50s 60s and 70s. I hope it can be again.

Sadly its worse
I feel you brother, same goes for Milwaukee
In 1945-46 Detroit was the richest city in the world.
Right - Have you ever seen this comparison of the changes to both these cities since WWII?

You are correct, War tends to have financial winners.
@de'travon washington From 1900 to 1962, Republicans were Mayor of Detroit for 50 years, Democrats 12 years. Republicans were mayor when the city was thriving.
James Smith - And then transitioned into the murder capital of the U.S., if not the world.
Is it worse off than most major cities? Yes. Is it as bad as people make it out to be? No. I'd much rather drive through any neighborhood in Detroit, and I do for work, than drive through the south side of Chicago.
The south side of Chicago is rough. Reminds me of an old song....
"The freaks come out. The Freaks come out at Night"
I disagree. Especially now being away for years. It’s even worse than what’s said

DavidisDawei you're very welcome. Detroit is a crazy place. Sad.
Detroit is what happens when liberal social issues are put before business.
+Tnb Spotter
Could also be a model for what happens when businesses put profits above everything else. But GM was king back then, so they thought anything they did was OK. They did not respect their competition and did not respect their customers. I suspect their fall impacted Detroit
DavidisDawei
No, that's not it.
DavidisDawei
I do drive a GM product and have been doing so for the past 22 years. Other than lots of small thing breaking during the first year, they have been just as reliable as the Japanese cars I have driven.
Are you one of those people that think business runs on altruism?
Lol that is laughable
detroit isn't bad it's a beautiful place
actually im from detroit and my life was good living there i have some past moments that i wish i could forget but its still my home town and nothing will change that it is a beautiful place and nothing can change that.
much agreed I've been there a few times having lived in Michigan all my life it is not at all as bad as RUMORS say
+genmonte gaither You may find it a beautiful place. But compared to other cities it isn't.
+Roy Hoeksema compared to cities full of rich retards who think they are better then everyone would you wanna live in a place thats always "up tight" you probally dont even live here you probally just hear things it's really nice
+genmonte gaither It looks worse than New York...
This is the direct result of an entrenched democrat party for 4 decades
This happens all over when Democrats ! Are in charge ....
@Jeff Lane Thats a damn lie !
Mississippi and Alabama are prospering, except maybe in the Ms delta where more blacks are cocentrated .
Get your facts straight before you pop off !
This is what will happen to the USA if the DemoRats get in the WH. Trump 2020.
Mhm... how are dying rural towns doing?
You know your city is doom when Pyongyang, North Korea looks better then yours. This is what happens when you have 50+ years of democrats and when your jobs are taken by Asian countries.
+SuperSpiffy777
I did think of that as I drove along their main boulevards; both cities have six lanes without much traffic
Democrats and Republicans have nothing to do with this!
Anita Tamez: well I would have to disagree. Trump's tariffs on China are certainly beneficial to America.
When times are good, people get lazy/complacent.
Yeah, it sucks to think that all these jobs went to a country that we still don't have good relations that we should've at least got for them.
Whole video I just kept saying to myself "roll em up"
+heyeveryoneimcool Me too, and I live here.
+heyeveryoneimcool Totally agree. Great avatar by the way.
Lets all PRAY for Detroit...it looks like it needs a blessing.
Unfortunately, there are are MANY cities that look like this (or worse) across the USA now
And to think that not too long ago Detroit was one of the greatest cities in the world.
+NuclearGrizzly
The USA is a shadow of what it used to be. The citizens of this country are some the most naive and insouciant populace on Earth who actually believe what they are told, but they are boiling frogs and will never wake up - it is ballgame over - save yourself and your loved ones -
the majority are a bunch of gong show losers dependent upon the givernment's teat
jeez this area is simply depressing. I couldn't imagine living there...
You have most likely never been here based on you're comment, it is the best city and I wouldn't want to live any where els.
Trent Reiss I mean currently I live in New York in a pretty bad neighborhood but you have to admit this is kind of sketchy....
Exodus/Steady - Senses Leader
I lived in a part of Boston called Dorchester when I was a boy. As a male, you knew you were going to have to fight other kids (city life), but I Never worried about getting knifed or shot
I don't know if it is because of video games or drugs, but now, a bloody nose or a fat lip is not the worst outcome. Kids today have many advantages thanks to technology today, but the family unit, parenting and our society have gone to the dogs.
Exodus/Steady - Senses Leader
If you have the cash and the patience, Detroit may be a good long term investment. There are some beautiful buildings you might get for nothing of you agree to fix them up and pay taxes.
You could also re-develop entire neighborhoods if you wanted to create a community. Or you can buy and hold - I suspect the Chinese will be there in the next 5-10 years; their foothold into the USA -
DavidisDawei I currently live in Dorchester in boston lol
Okay so here’s a rant.... I love Detriot Michigan Heck I love Michigan In general!!! I may be young but I moved when I was 8 I was born and basically raised part of my life I moved to California. California’s nice and all but I miss Michigan I visit every summer but my heart is defainlty there. If I’m not talking to anyone and I’m alone I honeslty start thinking of my home state and how much I miss everyone there!!! Yes it may not look like the best city right now but I promise it’s getting better it’s home!!!
A great time to buy Sylvia if you think it will recover and you want to live there
life after white people
It is a good example of what happens when people with money have had enough and choose to flee.
DavidisDawei it's our government
Just_another_Tøp_fan 4302 go ahead, blame the government for their lack of respect. Then go back to claiming foodstamps paid by who again...oh yeah.
.
An example of a city ruined by libtards
bruce preston
Yes but unlike Detroit, Alabama has enough white people keeping the city some-what stable and working.
The same goes for Mississippi.
New Orleans was incredibly close into turning into another Detroit believe it or not, all the white people almost jumped ship after Hurricane Katrina, but it managed to keep it-self afloat and is still repairing it-self to this very day.
They should get rid of the lights and put stop signs up..

Coleman Young: the Communist Who Destroyed Detroit
He probably didn't help.
LOL: just like Elijah Cummings who destroyed Baltimore.
Im watching this in 2019 so im sorry if this sounds a bit later than the video shows but Detroit is being revitalized as part of USA, a lot of new buildings and infrastructural improvments are going on right now and I expect it to get a lot better in the years to come. Stay strong Detroit.
Excellent - thanks for the update - Do you live there?
It's making somewhat a comeback however it'll never be at it's grand back in the 20 Century. It's too much in debt and taxes are too high.
Detroit still has many issues, but the Downtown area is much nicer in 2021. Come back and check it out! Don't miss Belle Isle.....
Yes Indeed -
I mentioned in the video back then. I could tell they were trying to circle the wagons
I will try to get back and check the place out - thanks
@@DavidisDawei Take the exact same route you did in this video. You will be shocked....
@@wolfiethedog76 In a good way?

my cuz used to live in Det. a few blocks from the Central Michigan Railway station which was closed in the 1940s.
That's kinda racist but not so racist more like truth.
The world used to be such a gem of a place to live, until I came across your comment and realised I share a world with people like you
+Dee Donner Ramone i know the feeling, as a fellow white/ashkenazi/hispanic guy, i also live in an African American majority city, it is hard being the minority :(

What I do like about Detroit is every artist comes here to tour
Great point...lot of music history in Detroit
DavidisDawei not one major tour detroit didn't get a tour date.
Fantastic...Detroit will bounce back when the Chinese arrive in a couple years. They will rebuild Detroit and make it the first Chinese built American city. It will have have the newest and best modern infrastructure
there's something weirdly appealing about this footage. not that i'd go visit detroit or anything, but its interesting to see.
Alex Abrams
Yes - it sure is. Always worthwhile to check things out for yourself
New York has come a LONG way since the 70's...
remember the movie "The Warriors"? That is not too much of an exaggeration on how bad NYC was then
This is what happens when you have 50 years of progressives or what others might call liberals constantly reelected over and over.
Detroit has gotten a bad rap from people who have never spent time there - including the maker of this video
cameras don't lie
i heard half the kids in detroit cant read smh lol
Sadly, that is the reality they face

True...I see what you mean.
detroit at night is awesome. you have musicans playing live for free everywhere, everyone is so open, its great. i live there
Awesome - that is definitely a perk
this city is really nice, it's a shame that it went bankrupt
Smaller government is always a better government
@Randy Pham
Yes, but hopefully smaller government means they do less damage
Detroit was the silicone valley of the first 70 years of the 20th century, highest per capita income in the country, job loss and white flight has left detroit a shit hole,
A lot of commenters are saying Detroit is making improvements, but I suspect it is centered around the sports teams and the University
This is embarrassing I can't believe my home state has that bad of a city! I feel bad for the children who face the horrors of Detroit everyday

+GameAddict51
Everyone needs a place to live, but what happens when the property taxes are more than the price of the house?
DavidisDawei You mean in Detroit? I don't know. This is assuming it can make a return.
"Americans do not really own their property." Ok, then nobody at all owns property. Taxes are higher elsewhere.
Even worse that Johannesburg, South Africa
Can't be too bad y'all over here every weekend trying to get street cred.. y'all love coming over here. Than got nerve to ask for direction.. they don't teach you how to read a map in canada or how to use Google maps..
I've never been to Michigan, but watching this video gives me the feeling that you'd have that very eerie feeling in the pit of your stomach, while driving through Detriot
+Stevie Bernardoni
You need to stay alert in any city, but I was extremely curious to explore and see the city for myself.
Thank you for taking me home if only for a short time....😊
I'm proud to say I'm from Detroit I love it there I'm getting ready to move back it's better than where I live now people of Detroit are the most realest I'll go into any hood at anytime no worries here

JMMT7022801 Very Clever!
It implies COMMERCE and America.
What you called a tram is actually a people mover that only serves the downtown area. Unfortunately, the city didn't have much vision for it; they could have extended it outward like Vancouver's Skytrain.
The oil and auto companies disbanded trolley/train systems across the USA and replace them with gas engine buses, so I am not surprised that Detroit did not add a subway/metro even though it would be better for the rider in the Winter months or when there's heavy traffic
life after, COLEMAN YOUNG
The situation in Detroit it’s a lot better now, it’s a shame that all you find online it’s bad comments and scary images from the city’s worst times

I LOVE DETROIT
Great - What do you love most about Detroit?
@@DavidisDawei my favorite part is the remodeled downtown area. The sports complex with all 4 sports stadiums located in 1 spot and surrounded by bars restaurants and casinos
What was the point of this video? To make fun of the city & the people who live there? Detroit may not be the best place ever but you never truly know what it's like until you live there. Please don't think this is an accurate description of my city.
p.s. I highly doubt this was recorded in the afternoon (at least the downtown scenes). I am downtown EVERY day & I never see it that empty unless it's early in the am.
Legaahgurl321
I suggest you post your own video then if you want to show something different.
What you saw in this video is what I saw on that time and date. I was there a portion of ONE day and detoured over to see Detroit since I had not had the time to do so before
The reason I record videos is to capture memories.
I talk to the video camera to document time, date and whatever I'm thinking or feeling at that time. It is much more accurate than my memory over time.
If I mention a specific day or time, it is accurate.
If I don't know, I'll say "I think it is so and so day or time"
Do the Tigers play in the early AM?
Look at the sun and the shadows on the buildings/ground.
How well do you know Detroit?
Clearly, Detroit, like MANY cities across the USA, are in trouble and do NOT have a solution.
I do not recall making fun of anyone, but I will say that you will never improve anything if you continue to think everything is A-OK.
What the fuck is wrong with this city? It's a ghost town, It looks super dangerous too.
They started taking money from those who had it and those people moved away.
Just seems like a waste you know. Once an important city, now a mishmash of derelict buildings. Motor city
DavidisDawei You're preaching to the crowd man. I think the same thing is happening in my country.
***** What country?
Ghost town, but even the abandoned buildings architecture from a designer stand point are beautiful
Absolutely -
i live 40 miles away from Detroit and it is awful there. it changes a lot in 40 miles.
It sure does Dalton. I was amazed how much farmland is in Michigan. It is a beautiful State, but a little too cold in the Winter for me
If you don't like it here Don't come here...... Detroit Ain't For Everybody!
Most of this was downtown or to the North and West of the Downtown/Sports complexes - Not East
I think Detroit will have a resurgence when the Chinese are brought in and take it over.

Thanks for the update/input
That Summer I drove across the Northern USA and you could see where the economy was going for most of the country.
The only areas booking were in Energy and they looked like temporary gold/wild west towns - that will disappear as quickly as they arrived;
The USA is is serious Trouble - we cannot create enough jobs that pay a living wage for a majority of workers now
Maybe they should rename it "Destroyed" because it looks gutted.
that's not even funny. that is simply rude. though the city is not in its best shape there are other. cities too that are in just as bad shape.

what happen to Palmer Park area and Belle Isle, and all the beautiful homes on the northwest Detroit?
To answer your question , no. I've traveled a lot and honestly Detroit is not the worst city I have visited there are a ton of activities, bars, restaurants and high end luxury lofts. Detroit does have some dangerous areas like with any city. The onr thing that I will say about Downtown Detroit is that driving can be confusing .
+Nicky 1234 sorry Nicky - I don't recall my question...
I agree, there is a lot of upside and potential in Detroit, but don't expect an immediate turn around - I think it will take the Chinese to come in and pump a lot of money into the area
+DavidisDawei your question is inside of the videos description box .
Nicky 1234 Ah, OK - Thanks. I thought we had a previous dialogue and I had lost my memory. Thanks for the feedback!
Wow, if you don't find detroit bad...
welcome to the mecca of liberal dem policies, and welcome to obumers ameriKa!
grizz tough So what is your solution then?
stop socialist policies and political correctness...focus on individual rights and a great business climate, not tax tax tax and spend, and entitlement programs
grizz tough Absolutely - Smaller Government will always lead to a more productive society.

The main drags don't look too bad. I lived in downtown Pittsburgh for awhile and after 6pm there wasn't too many people milling about there either. After work people go home.
That's a sign of an unhealthy city. Plus keep in mind Pittsburgh is less than half the size of Detroit. Detroit (or any city) should be bustling with activity at 19:00 in June.
thank you for the ride.

The architecture of Detroit is fantastic. too bad a lot of it has fallen into such disrepair.
If the infrastructure was up to date, it would be great too because the roads are wide (multiple lanes) and built for the auto. Not sure I would want to be there in the Winter though
All Detroit sports teams home arenas and stadium are in Downtown Detroit except for the Detroit Pistons there home arena are located in Auburn Hills.
Lions, Tigers and Red Wings are only a few blocks from each other. The restaurants and bars in that area appears to be doing well.
DavidisDawei Indeed right. I hope Pistons plan moving to Downtown Detroit will come to reality.
Tj Samson The Pistons are planning to move downtown?
Why did they ever go to Auburn Hills to begin with?
DavidisDawei Yes, Pistons are planning moving downtown. They built the Palace of Auburn Hills as a private financing on budget. I don't have some evidence but it's probably because of Detroit's bankruptcy but I might be wrong. So maybe that's why they moved outside Detroit and opened a new arena and started playing at the Palace since 1988-89 NBA season in Auburn Hills.
Tj Samson OK - Thanks
the rest of the country will look like this sooner than people think! WAKE UP!!
Get out if you can....no one believes this country is in trouble...the Obuma said so..anyone who says things aren't great is "peddling fiction"

my kids graduated from detroit schools. both speak french they leaned at their school(FLICS) foriegn language immersion cultural studies. my grand daughter go there now. great school in a good neighborhood. my son had been at the top his class all through his 12 yrs of school. was on the deans list at Mumford H.S.. graduated college with a degree in criminal justice. still fluent in french. a child will lean if he/she wants to learn. and we didn't live in any of these shitty areas you show.
+DavidisDawei they still live in Detroit. Mumford is six mile and Wyoming. school from Beverly hills cop
I was born in Highland Park in 1955 , we lived in Royal Oak MI ---it saddens me to see the ruin of a at one time thriving city
The 50's were the peak of Detroit's prosperity. I don't understand why the automakers allowed Detroit to fall apart the way it did. They were making so much money and had so much influence back then, they definitely had a say.
A shell of a shell of a shell of a once great city.
Yes, you can imagine what it probably used to be like when driving down their wide boulevards.
Thanks for the update Jama,
I think I talked about my observation during the drive that the city was attempting to bring all the sports teams into that same vicinity...reminded me of circling the wagons.
It is a bad plan when a city relies on games/sports teams to stimulate an economy, but desperate times require desperate measures.

Detroit has always been nice?
I suppose this is why those who disagreed saw the futility of the situation and voted with their feet.
Detroit is like any other city go where you need to go. Voter turnout was low for Duggan!
ok
THIS is Detroit!? It doesn't look that bad. I've seen worse.
+Nintendozilla98
yes - there are certainly worse places out there, but many sections are abandoned and empty
Moms Spaghetti Do you get more money if you've lived there 10 years compared to someone who's been there only 2 years?
No everyone gets the same amount!
Moms Spaghetti Great - Thanks
Detroit has been run by Liberals (black and white) for so damn long that when they have the mayoral race it doesn't even INCLUDE a Conservative or a Republican!! That's right, from out of the box it's Democrat vs Democrat. And some wonder why it is a cess pool. Having ridiculous drug laws doesn't help the situation either.

You are a pretty brave guy if you went through all of that without a bodyguard! LOL Sorry I was so useless, just sitting there gaping at the sights! Glad you got me back home safely too!
Thanks Robert
Yes - Indeed. Wide Boulevards and elaborate architecture show what Detroit used to be.
Glad you came along for the ride!
Maybe the zombies got em
I visited Detroit back in 96 when I was a teenager . Coming from London Ontario . The Maple Leafs tickets are so expensive and the Red Wings are cheaper . I miss the Joe Louis Arena
When I was there, all of the stadiums for baseball, football and hockey were relatively new. They put them all within walking distance to each other. Great for the bars and restaurants in that area...not so great for everyone else
@@DavidisDawei how far is the Little Caesars Arena ? That’s neat . Small world
@@simonmarshall19 The casino and those 3 stadiums are all within a mile of each other (+/-)
@@DavidisDawei ty . All the Sports are downtown now . Red Wings. Pistons, Lions & Tigers
@@simonmarshall19 I said back then that it was only a matter of time before the Pistons moved downtown.
They are circling the wagons. Make that part of Detroit fun and renovated...just don't drive a mile in the wrong direction
30,000 people use to work here, now it’s a crack town.
Perhaps it will bounce back one day...
Fortunately, it's never been a Meth town.
Well, we are seeing this so you made it out alive..."out" I heard a bit of Canadian accent -
granskare
Wow - thanks
you hear an accent, eh?
haha - I like Canada very much, but I'm from the USA.
Eminem's fan!!!!
AndreaCipo92 Do you think he still lives in Detroit?
DavidisDawei Not exactly, but not far from it.....his house is in Michigan on the "Rochester Hills".....30 miles from Detroit!!!!
AndreaCipo92 OK - Awesome - I didn't have the camera going, but when I hit 8 Mile Road, one of his songs came on the radio
DavidisDawei Wow wow.....amazing :'(......which song?
AndreaCipo92 oh,sorry - that was more than a year ago, I don't know him well enough to know his songs, but I recognized his voice.(it was a well known song)
But I thought it was funny that I'm riding down 8 mile and his voice appeared
Just an update. A lot of these places have been either revitalized or torn down, especially in downtown Detroit. There are still a lot of places I would never go to willingly even in the daytime (highland park!) but downtown has a lot of new businesses/companies, housing complexes and sports arenas that either built new facilities or moved there. Wild to see how much has changed in only 4 years, but it feels like a bandaid to a much bigger problem. Hopefully the number of people who move in will sustain these new developments or else I have no doubt it will be in worse shape in 20 more years.
Great Analysis MagicalDreams!
They have felt the Bern already.
