Great video! It saddens me how much history Windsor has destroyed. Architecture in the early 1900s was beautiful in Windsor. Architecture today is plain and blah..
Good on you for this collection. Remember drinking beer during University days at the DH as we called it. Plus was there when The Elmwood casino turned into a halfway house called Brentwood run by feisty Father Charbonneau who saved a few souls in his day.
Very nice, thanks. Lots of memories. Saw so many good bands at "The Bears", and "The Riv". I too missed the Southwood. Radio Tavern...........Chicken In The Basket was so good. Ron Binks
Nice job, spent my teens and early 20's at some of these bars. Too bad the powers that be don't appreciate history and have torn down many historic buildings.
I worked at the Lido as a busboy just as they shutdown. Partied there a few times when it reopened as Rum Runners. All that's left is a plot of dirt and overgrown parking lot.
This was well done.. Good Job.. just wondering tho.. when you do next can you edit and put on location. I apologize for saying. Because you did a great job showing history
Thanks! the video was meant to be kind of a highlight reel for the "Eat, Drink and Be Merry" chapter of our book, Windsor: Before & After. Windsor and area bars that we were able to find photos of in the past and in recent times have been included, identified and given a location, as well as a bit of pertinent info. :) If you're interested in seeing our book or purchasing it, you can go to our website: walkerville.com

We do have the Star House on Gladstone and Cataraqui in the book, which I think might be the same as the one you're referring to. It had many names over the years. :) If you're interested in seeing our book or purchasing it, you can go to our website: walkerville.com

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to locate an old photo of the Southwood, but it did get in our book's comprehensive list of former bars; we called the list "Wasted Days & Wasted Nights!" Howard Avenue in Windsor Ontario . It's called " Tommy's " barbecue . This is the grandson of the original founders of Tunnel Barbecue .He is also old now , lol . but great food
Great video. Nice to see the old photos. The singer at the beginning sounds unusually old, though. The video would feel more immersive with a more average aged singer that would be common at one of the places in the photos. It sounds like this singer is 80 years old as if he's singing in modern times about something he remembers from 50 years ago which makes me feel like it is still 2021.
GRATULATIONS BROTHER!....Douglas Bedard....!!!...
Thank you sure brings back a lot of memories. I'm 73 yrs old and I was in a lot of the bars.
Being from Detroit back in the day, a trip to Windsor was pretty common. We went to the Riverfront Follies and then Tunnel Bar B Que for ribs.
I was never one to visit these watering holes, but the names and buildings brought back old memories.
Well done and thank you for preserving our history

100%. Modernity as far as style goes is lifeless and blah
Wow. Great job. Full marks on this one!
Another Great Video
Great video. I remember most of the Hotels and drank at a few of them and the ones I didn't I still remember.
Great Photos brings back old memories
I love this video! Great job!!
OMG the Mai Mai!!!! The best chinese food ever. To this day I still crave their bbq pork and egg rolls!
Wish we still had some old buildings from this time in our city! It tells a story…

Would love to see a version this showing the bars/clubs that were around in the 90's and what they are now
The Vic is still packed on weekends with a live band. 2024.

There was a strip bar right next to the Radio...just can't remember the name.

I believe there's more bars
This is amazing
Amazing
I was quite surprised that I didn't see the Southwood Hotel. It was one of the oldest bars in the city. Just closed down in 2018.
