[GALAXY NOTE 9 REVIEW]
“Power User.” It’s a term we used years ago to describe people who used their smartphone all the time, for everything -- and it’s those people the Samsung Galaxy Note was built to satisfy back in 2011. But in 2018, everyone is a power user. So the Galaxy Note has had to evolve … and with only one exception, the Galaxy Note 9 is as close to power-user perfection as Samsung has ever gotten.

Re: "There have only been 8 Notes!" Folks, I'd like to forget the Note Edge too -- but that doesn't mean we should. (Also: honorable mention to the Note FE.)
True totally forgot about those
MrMobile [Michael Fisher]
Quick question man, will you review the HTC U12 Plus?
Note 3 Neo ?
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] cnet should take a note from you as a reviewer. Because they seem to think Samsung is trying to copy Apple with the pricing.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] you are the best man. You reviews are original and so like Mr Mobile. Love
A lot of people don't understand that this man is an OG. He did phone reviews before smartphones were a thing. Mad respect to you Michael for stickin' with it!
he literally said in this video that hes been reviewing phones for six years which is not before smartphones were a thing

I am glad i bought Note 9. Who else still use "The Last Legendary Note" in 2020?
Me! Just 2 months ago.
I do :). I have the Gear VR which I love and Note 10 doesn't support it. And I don't like camera cut-outs...
Just ordered mine :)
Bruh I'm tryna get a note 8...lol
@@agentbrandt Me. Looking to upgrade to a Note 10+. Have loved the Note 9 though. Best phone I've had. Mine is starting to slow down due to age. Hoping to pick up a 10+ on price drop.
Is it me or does his style some what resembles tony stark from iron man
Not just you my friend
Right na!!! He looks like him.
i thought it was RDJ when i watched the video
True
Yes you are right
I switched to note 9 from the iPhone 6S Plus. Apple lost me when they took away the headphone jack, slowed down the function of my phone without asking me and then wanted me to buy a new battery (or even better a new phone). Rumors are that Samsung will do the exact same thing with the headphone jack, on the next model. I sincerely hope not! None the less after a lifetime of being an apple fan girl, I am finding Android to be vastly superior. More options, more customization, a more fun experience. An note9 is just awesome. When I'm bored, or needing to relax, I color in like a kid using the s-pen and one of the many free apps. I actually use the s-pen to handwrite sticky notes for my daily work (and then just erase the notes at the end of the day). I've used DEX as a desktop on a monitor once or twice when I've needed to. It all works smoothly. I just like it and its soo much more versatile than iPhone. Maybe its cause its a newer platform and phone for me but I'm in love with what this phone can do for me.
Samsung slows their devices down as well... like a lot of other companies.
I get your points about Samsung, but the devices slowed due to the lithium battery wearing out, and if they hadn’t slowed down the device- it would’ve kept crashing, even that option was able to be turned off.
Imabitch so does apple what’s your point
I’m switching from Apple to an Samsung s10+ love how you can do so many customisations with it & a lot more
@@jif4639 How pointless it is to have one more thing that runs out of battery and needs to be charged.
Totally agree. Galaxy note 4 was legendary. Still use it from time to time.
They should have just perfected that phone. It doesn´t break as easy and feels much better in the hand and the changable batteries are great too.
Du hier?
My Gf just upgraded from note 4 to note 9.
Note 3 is even better I'm using it and writing my comment from it and I still enjoy using it's features like pausing videos when you look away or even Air gestures 😍 but the only weakness is the internal storage after 5 years of heavy use it's full so still thinking should I upgrade and buy Note 9 or wait for Note 10 😂
Saaame
Watching on my beloved Note 4. Still going on. Just changed battery once from original.
I recently was able to test the Note 9 at the Samsung store in Frankfurt (amazing store btw). I agree, the screen is absolutely amazing, same with the camera and and S Pen. If I weren't already so happy with my S7 and had 1000€ in my hands, I would definitely buy this!
S7 is flawless!
@@mayurhassija6639 far from.
S7 has no bixby button..... #perfection
S7 is the best phone i used till now
My s7 lasted me 2 and a half years! Just upgraded to the note 9, but before I did my phone did have a few hiccups. When I took it in the river (my fault) the sim tray seal failed and fried my sim card, but all I had to do was get a new one and dry the phone out! Then at the 2 year mark my battery blew up, had to get it replaced at batteries plus and the guy broke my wireless charging when he did it. What finally pushed me to upgrade was about 2 weeks ago, because the guy had damaged the phone when he replaced the battery the seals were broken and I dropped it in a sink by accident, which it took like a champ, but the volume down key fried and stuck it in safe mode, so now I'm here on my note 9
Still rocking my NOTE 4 after 3 full years. No cracks. No scratches! Love it!
I don't see why everyone is calling it an incremental or iterative upgrade, EVERY device is an iterative upgrade of the previous version, and the N9 is easily the biggest upgrade from the previous out of all of this year's flagships
Bryan D. but for 1000 $ you don t have to think twice to buy it , you have to think 1000 times
johnny so is the iPhone x without a headphone jack, no micro SD expansion, no fingerprint sensor, and so on.
Pedro Delgado that s why you don t have to fall in their trap , it s just too much for a phone , the market just exploded and it s not worth it
Bryan D
Your wrong the upgrade isn't much besides the 4k battery. Yes its an upgrade if your coming from a pixel phone or obviously an iphone 😂😂
If price is such a concern then you wouldn't be looking at premium products in the first place. The Note 8 was basically the same price as this. There are plenty of cheap and 2nd hand phones that satisfy the budget conscious. Like if you’re buying a cheap Honda, you’re not going to be comparing it to the top of the line luxury car brand. For business expenses this price peanuts and there are also plenty of deals to essentially get it for half price. I spend more yearly on my cell phone plans than this phone.
Any phone at $1000 is overpriced but if you're willing to pay that amount for a phone then Note 9 is the one to go
Chris Tmg it's not overpriced. It's just you cant afford it. Not a roast cause I cant either. It's worth 1k but that burns a whole in my wallet.
What I do is wait 2 years snd get it for 400
It is overpriced. Period. The phone itself probably cost around $400-500 to produce. That's a 100% profit margin and that's just gross.
Achiri Achoh It really is overpriced. I'm not saying because I can't afford it. I couldn't afford s9 when launched but I never said it's overpriced because it's not.
CHRoOMAX Why does everyone forget that Marketing and R&D also costs...
I'm just here being nostalgic about a time in my life when I was getting my masters degree, had a to of friends im the same city to hang out with, could go swing dancing nightly, and was genuinely a happy go lucky guy who had a pixel 2xl in one pocket and a note 9 in the other. I had two other friends with this phone as well. Loved it. We'll get through this pandemic friends.
You're the most professional tech reviewer on UA-cam. Everything is perfection starting with your voice, clothes, background music and the most important, covering all aspects of the phone in your review. Keep up the good work!
Perfect review! There's a reason why Note users will not switch to S9+ or iPhone. S pen it's big deal to copy and paste, sign documents etc.
Clever Note users anyways won't switch to Apple.
Just curious, how is it any different from having a capable 3rd party stylus? Unless one doesn't use it like all the time.
DK baller because the S-Pen function like a mouse not a stylus. It provides more functionality than a stylus even more so now with the Bluetooth connectivity. Bonus feature you can store the S-pen in your phone and not your pocket.
Tobe honest, I only use the S-Pen for games hehe. And I'm a business person. Int he Apple ecosystem you can save your sig once and never have to sign again you just place it in the document that's it. Also IOS has 3d touch so you can move cursor by hard pressing the keyboard, no need for a pen when you have a virtual mouse.
Brawndo you can move the cursor with the Samsung and Google keyboard to but I find it's better doing it with the S-pen especially when navigating through web pages.
I don't get why people think Bixby is a Google Assistant competitor. It's clearly not. It's on class on its own when it comes device control. Half of the times I ask Google to do a device based command it bring up a search result.
MöHď MøŠhîŰř I looking forward to trying out bixby as I agree with web search crap that google keeps doing. I coming from S7 so not had this feature. 👍
Google assistant can now do crazy things
I use bixby and knows very well my phone. Like you mentioned, its not a google competitor, its just our help, when we don't want to do things for ourselves.
Yeah, I particularly like how you need to get the exact phrasing right every time, unless you want to carve out the time to "teach" it manually. Fun!
MöHď MøŠhîŰř Exactly!! It's supposed to be used for phone functionality more so then finding you places outside to eat!
The quality of your videos keep getting better and better! Thank you. @mrmobile

Abu Nation same here 🙌🏻
Loving my note 9 but note 4 to me has been the peak in relation to its time and also in terms of longevity. I still use my note 4 with custom rom and aftermarket battery for media.
I agree with you. Note 4 is the best phone of that time. However I think Note 9 is the best phone of this time. The only single thing I don't like are rounded screen edges. They look cool but lower productivity. Note 10 is a new generation that I don't like - no VR, no headphone jack, no heart-rate sensor and a camera hole in screen are a no-no for me. I mean no headphone jack would be ok but the other stuff? Absolutely no!
@@MichalKolman Honestly I game a lot, so even just the removal of the headphone jack is a no no for me.
I was looking into foldables and the Note 10+, but I really thought about it and came to the conclusion that I cannot break ties with the headphone jack.
Lucky for me, since the Note 9 is now a "old phone", getting one should be rather cheap.
But in all seriousness, these big tech companies need to stop with the "less is more" fallacy.
Love the visuals and camera work in your videos..
Loving your videos! Found you thru Jerry a few months ago and they're so relaxing and informative!

I've has the Note 9 for several weeks now and have only accidentally pressed the Bixby button 2 or 3 times. On my old s8+, when I had the Bixby button turned on, I rarely accidentally pressed it. I don't see what the big deal is.

I loved my note 3 and note edge. But after that, the note seemed to just be a larger galaxy with a S pen. And their price is just too much for me since Im off contract. I'll stick with my V30

By the way, "write on pdf" IS built into the note, and I like it a lot better than Adobe scan and sign. It's real time wet signatures. You can add it to the home screen to look like a stand alone app in the top right three dot "more" menu.

I Have No IDEA on My note 8 works so well no reason to upgrade.
Smartphone of the year 2018 will be Note 9 for sure.
😂😂😂 - I call total BS on that. It won't be phone of the year.
No it will be Huawei mate 20 pro because the Kirin 980 will smoke snapdragon 845 by miles ....... last year phone of the year was iPhone X simply because it’s apples tenth anniversary phone
Honestly, more than anything else on UA-cam, your voice and the background music in the videos are the most soothing things ever. I'm one of your oldest followers since your pocket now days and will remain with you and watch each & every video of yours irrespective of whether I buy that product or not. Coz your reviews are also spot on! I bought an S8 only after watching your review over and over again. And the conclusion that you've given in the end of this video, reiterate the fact why you're one of the most genuine tech reviewers across all platforms. Keep going Sir!
Dex is working out much better than I thought it would. I bought the dock even though you don't 'need' it, I was concerned that the multiport adapter wouldn't keep the phone charged, and I like that you can plug keyboard/mouse/storage into the USB ports on the dock.
Much Improved Note Series Yet By Samsung.Luv Yr Videos Following You From Long Times Bcoz Of Quality Videos.
But it's still crazy that phones cost so much nowadays and people buy it like it´s nothing ...
well not every body is broke.
Hey I liked what you said ..because I have a v20 with me :)
Cuz it's status thing now.. People need to look rich all the time.. Oh wait.. That's right... It's on a payment plan lol
king richards funny that that is what you think about when you see an expensive phone, instead of thinking its a nice new phone, you see it as a item to show off with, while people just like to have the newest phone.
And also, paying per month is more expensive then stacking up that same money, and then buying it
Yilayer yes bcoz they see a purpose and desire it in. not just a buy a costly phone and use it for insta and make phone calls. Everyone's usage is different and note 9 ticks most all boxes for me, not the international version tho ;-)
Really enjoy your reviews. Thank you!
Man I must give compliments to your narration, it sounded like one of those documentaries
I want that wallpaper at 6:14 where can I get?
Thanks for making me try to swipe the hair off my screen to no avail
I am hair for this question as well. God damn your avatar!
2:06 Even Siri could do that. You know you’ve made a terrible assistant when it’s even worst than Siri 😂
TheTechPerson siri is so bad today
TheTechPerson cant rap better tho
She isn't made for searching.. she was designed to help u use ur phone without touching it
Siri is not that bad if you use actual productivity stuff. (Texting, appointments, reminders, timers, alarms, etc instead of asking pointless shit). I find that most things that "fail" in Siri vs Google Assistant videos are the pointless shit and also the fact. Like "Who was the 44th president". Then asking "How old is he", then Siri not reminding the previous question and it loses a point in the comparison test.. Seriously who does that. I use Siri all the time, and while not perfect it's certainly much better than people make it out to be for click baiting videos on UA-cam. I also use Google Assistant all the time on my S9+, and installed an app to make the bixby button use the Google Assistant. zThat's how much I hate it.
Brawndo What app reassigns it to the Google assistant?
Good review. Reminded me of my note 4 with the zerolemon 10,000mah battery! Used to last days of active use

Yes note 4 is the best! Wish is badly that they would go back to it
Mine just died, and it was a release day Note 4. I was a little sad.
Get over it, note 4 is old and heavily outdated.
It might be old and outdated but it is still the best note out of the series! now take what the note for was and even slightly updated to something that they have now you wouldn't tell me that that would be the best phone out
Hector O no it was good in it’s time but no longer. Time has moved on and so has phone quality. Note 4 is now outdated in every way shape and form. From camera, ui, finger print scanner everything. Time to let go of the past brother and move on and let the note 4 rest in pieces.
yes agree note 4 is thd best removable battery and I can update it to oreo using root and custom rom.
You can grab a Galaxy Note 9 for 500 bucks at MetroPCS just switch your service over and it's a major go 😜🙄

Reassigned it to Google Assistant
A seriously killer review as always! Have you ever thought about doing a video on how you go about making a video, more specifically your writing process because you sir a word wizars
I love you Mr Mobile ❤️
Are you gonna give him any?
Aashish Limbu Can't agree more....He's really awesome....
I will start by saying that I have a note 8 and have been blessed to always afford one in the past. It seems as we are never satisfied with anything. That is a different conversation.. However, no other phone in the market has all around the best combination of features (compromise) and backed by a solid company with customer support and assistance like Samsung. Lastly, if $1k is too much, don't forget now days if you are patient, there are plenty of promotions which will end up giving you a phone for half the price...and at that, comparing features with the iPhone or any other phone.. It does not even come close...way too many more check boxes over the notch competitor or any other phone..
Probably gonna wait till the Note 10 releases to decide, but ya have earned urself a sub! I enjoy ur presentation.
Hi mate, thanks for the review. I also like the Tech 21 cases. Can you please tell me in relation to the Galaxy Note 9 Screen Protector which one is best...the EVO Glass or Impact Shield? THanks

2:05 wait what?! I just tried it on my S9+ and it worked perfectly. Bixby set an alarm for 8am. Why wouldn't that phrase work on the note 9?
Jijumon M ikr
🤔
Probably because Bixby wasn't fully implemented yet on his review model
Urban Kitsune well then he should have mentioned that. He stated some update and I was wondering why the hell it needs an update to understand that simple voice task. He made it seem like Bixby on the note 9 is basically worthless and cannot understand anything. Kinda misleading tbh

Still missing the IR blaster, one of my most used features on my phone.
I use a V20 with a 10,000mah replacement battery. I leave all features on and brightness at max when using my phone, and i use it a lot. For facebook page managing, gaming, photo taking, all day, every day. I can easily drain a battery like what is in the note 9 by lunch time. All day battery life should mean i can wake up, go hard, and not have to worry about plugging in until i go to bed. Right now the V20 is the last phone released in my opinion that truly ticks all the power user boxes. it's rugged, doesn't give a shit about its looks, has a replaceable battery, IR blaster, expandable storage, headphone jack (with a beastly DAC/amp to boot), uses a traditional 16x9 screen res that isn't a mass of wasted screen real estate in 90% of games and 99% of videos, has a wide angle lens (much more useful than telephoto, but thats just my opinion).
It's kind of sad that it's been almost 2 years since the last feature complete phone was released to the market. I don't want curved, sexy, sleek, glass, notched, stretched, 87 camera'd phones. I want a device that does the shit i want it to. And for now, my next phone when this one dies, is going to be another V20. And it's going to be a hell of a lot cheaper than 1000 dollars.
APurpleSpy You're an idiot.
As a V20 owner, I fully agree to all of this. The IR blaster unfortunately is going away. It used to be a heavily touted feature in older Samsung Galaxy S4/S5 & Notes 3 and 4 in TV advertising. Now all phones are going for form over function (asthetics over utility) and it makes no sense because protective cases will be put on and will alter the look considerably, if one cares about it. The V20 has everything that my old Note 3 did when it died plus some. NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IR blaster, Dual SIM (My H990DS unlocked model), microSD card storage with the ability to have 2 SIMs and an microSD inserted all at once and used at the same time. FM Radio for emergencies, Camera that can shoot RAW, Removable Battery, Quad-DAC 3.5 mm Audio Jack, High impedance mode, man you name it! About the only downer is the screen is less rich in color and brightness compared to the much older Note 3 I had. IPS (V20) vs OLED (Note 3). The V30 and newer V series phones all now have the same limitations as the Samsung Notes. I will keep my V20 for as long as I can.
Theo T. Every tv has wifi, you don't need an IR Blaster when you can control your TV through wifi. Even my cheap ass 400€ LG TV has a dedicated app which allows me to control my TV however I want.
@@shooterrick1 Not all TVs have Wi-Fi, including my own and a good chunk of cheaper TVs (under $250 Dollars) don't have Wi-Fi of Smart TV support of any kind. The IR blaster can be used in lieu of that. In addition, the IR blaster ISN'T JUST FOR TV's. I've used it on college projectors, desktop monitors, Air conditioners, Heaters, Aftermarket Car Stereos, etc. Most projectors at my college are old with no Wi-Fi (bulbs get replaced as they age). The new ones do support Wi-Fi, but they are usually disabled or not setup for controlling via Wi-Fi making that approach useless. And when the internet goes out, it becomes useless also. IR is tried and true for many decades.
So when i go to my parents who have a wall mounted 65" samsung flatscreen from about 5 years ago, what should i do? Tell them it has an app even though it doesn't? Use mind powers? Or tell them that they obviously need to upgrade because it doesn't have app control and their perfectly good TV is completely pointless to own now as all TVs have dedicated apps.
How about my own house? I have a samsung in the kitchen, a vizo in the living room, and an LG in my room. Instead of using a single app, i should jump between 3 different apps depending on what room I'm in?
What should I have done when I went to a friends place to watch the evo finals, and we couldn't hear the new tekken announcements, but he couldn't find the remote. Should I have sat there and scoffed at him for having a 10+ year old TV? Should i have told him obviously it has an app because all TVs have apps.
What about when I have access to the back area of a bar for a party that has a massive new flatscreen hanging on the wall? It has an app, but it hasn't been set up and I can't control it. I would need a remote to go through initial setup. If only i had brought my home remote in my pocket... or... you know... maybe an IR blaster on my phone.
What about controlling the volume on the TVs at my local LAN center. Even if they do have apps, their machines are on a protected wifi with 2 step authentication, that often causes trouble with simple devices (Impossible to set up chromecasts for example) should i tell them to set a remote at every TV in the facility, bother the employees for the remote to adjust the volume, reach up to the TV to manually adjust the volume, or just use my phone?
How should i control my old window AC unit? It has a remote which I lost a long time ago, and is most certainly NOT wifi capable. Am I just a baby for not wanting to get up and adjust it manually? Should i throw away a perfectly working unit in favor of one that can connect to wifi? This is all without talking about the apps themselves. Most of them are absolute garbage (I hope i NEVER have to open my vizio app again).
These are situations I regularly find myself in. My point being that just because something does not apply to your daily life does not mean it is pointless. The way i go about my days and live my life, having an IR blaster helps me immensely, enough so to the point that the idea of switching to a phone without one seems downright ridiculous. If i stayed in my house, used 1 device, never went to peoples houses, and threw out everything i own that wasn't wifi connected, then maybe I would feel less bad about it. But I'm not planning on doing that any time soon.
Just got a Note 9 on sale. Totally agree with this review. Awesome phone!
Great review, and bonus points for the Ferris Bueller reference. I'm not looking to get my phone through 2 days, but through a whole day (even an extended one) without charging is a goal. I would love to have the Bixby button be re-programmable, but I will probably just turn it off. This Note 5 user (with a battery that now needs charging by noon) is definitely interested. I'm glad Samsung added features to the S-pen. I'm open to Apple's expected large iPhone though, so I'm going to wait and see what they announce before I make a decision on my new phone purchase.
for finding things on Google Maps you can use Google assistance, it always is advantageous for you to have both Assistants in your phone, Bixby can do a lot of things that Google Assistant cannot do, so stop bashing it.
Younes ZH Pretty sure he is bashing the fact that there is a dedicated button for it which you can't reprogram...
Not everyone wants to use bixby. Samsung wants to push all these other things you can customize and yet a button that you could use for any other number of things is dedicated to an assistant that is not quite ready for prime time.
What does Bixby do better than Google Assistant?
riccagianna with my limited time spent on bixby, it could tweet for me, email for me, post a pic on Insta. It has good integration with third party apps which I want Google to do with their Assistant. I discovered it during my one day test with Samsung Galaxy S8.
Rajit Roy yeah that's very mean from Samsung
My only gripe with my S9+ & Note 8 is the headphone jack wired audio. It’s low & weak. My iPhone X is loud & full sounding. Did Samsung finally get a great dac? I love music. I need great wired audio from a phone. Please respond. Thanks.
Frankamentise Depends on the hardware you're using. My S9 sounds just fine, with or without the Dolby Atmos processing, which tends to color the music a bit too much. That being said, it isn't too powerful.
If you want something with a bit more oomph, you're either better off going the dongle route and getting a USB-C dongle with a dedicated DAC. Razer's dongle for their phone works on the S9 and gives a better neutral sound over the S9 as well as having more power through it, though it's gonna be $20
Frankamentise you can get samsung's wireless ones too...gear icon x?
You should check LG offerings, they offer built in dac and boombox function with speakers. They are capable of running a high end headphone too
I shouldn’t have to buy an LG or a separate DAC. Samsung should provide fantastic audio for $1,000.
SnomanOO2 Why can LG & Apple do it then? What’s Samsung’s excuse? I love Samsung, but they should provide exceptional wired headset audio. Some of the cheaper phones have better audio. No excuse for it.
Good review! Thanks! Just got the Note 9
What I remember from the note 9 is a had a distinctive lens flare at night with the video recording.
