[SAMSUNG GALAXY S21 ULTRA REVIEW]
Fifteen years ago, when a then-nascent Samsung wanted to upset the status quo, it launched a family of phones bearing the brand name Ultra. Those being the days when form factors were in flux (and phones were more fun) maybe it’s no surprise that Samsung’s 2020 resurrection of the designation fell a little flat. To me, last year’s Galaxy S20 Ultra was too big, too boring, and too blurry … with a camera system whose focus issues wouldn’t be corrected until the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra hit the scene last summer.
Well, I’ve never been happier to say that we’ve entered a new year - and like clockwork, Samsung is here with a new phone to help kick it off. While the Galaxy S21 Ultra might feature a familiar face, it packs new features that will send some over the moon - and sacrifices that will leave others foaming at the mouth. Join me to see some of the most impressive mobile photography this side of Huawei … and some of the most polarizing feature plucking seen on a Samsung since 2015 - in MrMobile’s Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Review!

This man is an artist he can make a movie out of a phone review.
I cried for his Jibo video. He's underrated af.
Agreed, probably one of the highest production values I've seen in the tech review space, right along MKBHD.
Devon mkbhd is kinda boring to watch, he doesn’t really do anything, just looks into the camera and talks really slowly

You the man mile can you get the caller app on the fe ? Please reply
The biggest problem with everyone's obsession with cloud based storage is not everyone lives in a city, not everyone has perfect connection that will allow them to bring up their files instantly.
Not everyone wants to pay a month fee to store their stuff when they can pay a fraction of the price for physical storage which continues to only drop in price. Not to mention the fact that I don't want to have my stuff stored by a company in the first place.
I live in a semi-rural are and Google services are just fine for storing and sorting pictures I then download to my PC.
@@Clay3613 Same here, i live in a third world country and have no issues with cloud storage.
'I dont trust cloud storage'... but Facebook please take all my personal information so I can find out what breed of dog I would be in a different universe.
And don't forget those accidents that cause the phone's screen to break or become unusable. MicroSD cards, especially the more rugged ones, can usually survive a dip in the pool or toilet where the phone doesn't. I recently damaged my screen on my S8. Thankfully, the SD slot meant I could recover all my photos easily. When I dropped my S6 a few years prior, I wasn't able to retrieve anything since the phone was non-functioning.
I'm jealous of your script writing skills! Keep it up Michael, awesome quality and authentic content

I like that you didn't spend the entire time talking about the cameras. So many reviews are all about the camera and not of much else. Thanks for the review

I'm glad Fisher called Samsung out for being massive hypocrites. I've noticed almost no reviewer on youtube has called them out in the past
I guess you don't follow many tech reviewers. Many have criticized them for a long time, at least relatively smaller tech reviewers
Only he can do it. Bravo Michael Fisher

Um, a lot of them have. Who have you been watching LOL

Looking forward to the signature quote "glass is glass and glass breaks"
micro SD is incredibly important, if the phone is damaged, your data on the card will survive.
Cloud backups are nice, but when you are abroad, data is not always available.
It costs a consumer very little to have an SD card slot and not use it, where it costs a significant amount to need one and not have it available.
Having a phone with a large storage capacity put you at risk of loosing a large amount of data should anything happen, the fact is if you film in 8k or 4k, the time to upload to the cloud is so long that you may loose the data from an accident that occurs during filming.
Correct!!!! I agree
Agreed. Heck, you might not have data even within the city sometimes.
Am I the only one with a PC?
I also love having multiple TV shows, movies, podcasts and 100s of songs available on my phone so I don't need to use data if I'm out of home and need to pass time. Its not even just that I might run out of data but if the network connection isn't ideal then Netflix is going to stream low quality video and you can't do anything about it. And then theres the fact that Google Photos will compress your photos unless you are paying a subscription for more than the free 15GB so that should only be used for backup and not replacement for physical storage.
@@apfelschorle1988 you take it everywhere with you and immediately back up your photos the second you take them?
Google photos won't offer unlimited backup after June this year. A microsd card will be a must for many people after that.
Indeed. But then again, Samsung flagships have a very small market compared to their budget A series lineup, and those phones won't ditch headphone jacks or chargers or sd card slots.
The flagship Samsung market is so small, that in 2019-20, the top 10 list of the best selling smartphones didn't include a single Samsung flagship. It had 3 iPhones, one spot was filled by Samsung A51 , and the rest of the spots were filled by Chinese brands like xiaomi/one plus/huawei/oppo.
I don't understand why Samsung tries so hard with their flagships, that too, in such a hypocritical way.
Where i live, I see a people with iPhones, and a larger number of people with androids, and those android users almost always use/carry a budget or upper mid range offering from samsung/one plus/oppo/xiaomi /vivo, and to this day, I have come across very, very few people using a flasghsip Samsung S or Note phone.
@David how is that sad? Stating facts is "sad" apparently?
A lot of my friends have iPhones, few of them have android flagships like the pixel 4xl etc. I myself have a 1+7t.
Samsung on the other hand, as I said, has very less market cap in the flagship department. That's a statement backed by sales figures.
In the case of android, some people refuse to let go of the headphone jack, and hence they're left with no choice but to buy budget /upper mid range phones which still offer it.
In the flagship space, apple offers the best ecosystem(for people that prefer ios)and update support while brands like xiaomi /oppo offer flagship specs for lesser money.
Brands like one plus offer the most fluid android experience while pixel phones offer the best cameras.
Samsung makes phones like the note which majority of people have no use for, or the fold which most people can't buy. Even this s21 ultra, with its extravagant camera offers no value to the regular every user.
"hanging out with the wrong crowd".
Did you even think before making such a dumb statement?
@David there’s a difference between consumer in third world countries and first world countries, where I’m from almost 90 percent of all people there use cheap to mid-range Android phones, it’s kinda rare to see someone using a flagship phone, but here in the U.S is the complete opposite...
Not to mention that people can build their own AT-HOME private cloud server as well if they're willing to learn.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M if you're willing to learn you can build almost everything. If you consider that regular consumers don't even know what is a factory reset, they would never build their own cloud service

The headphone Jack and Microsd Card were kind of a leverage over Apple
They are ancient tech and for a company supposed to be at the cutting edge, it is a bit embarrassing. You have to adapt or die. Some users will get upset but it has a net benefit as people will buy higher storage and prices will fall. If we all buy cheap and slow SD storage then prices take much longer to fall. It is economies of scale and the more people that can adopt the latest tech then the quicker things will change for the better.
Exactly.
@@andyH_England why drop something usefull? The things that they offer in exchange are not cutting edge....They are just gaining more profit. If you think that foldable screens,or bluetooth headphones are cutting edge then you are dead wrong.
@@temistogen I am talking from an average consumer perspective and I know no one who uses an SD card, and I also have an S20U. I understand that for some people this will be a big change and some will say as they did with the jack that they will never buy Samsung again, yet did and will! You just cannot please all the people all of the time and for those that just cannot accept this, move on, buy another brand, and let Samsung get on with their future roadmap. Cheers!
In the end, it all boils down to profits. I just got a free iPhone se, I had no charger brick for their lightning port to USB c cable nor do I have Bluetooth headphones at the moment, so guess what, I had to go spend money getting a new brick and an adapter (AN ADAPTER) just to use my wired headphones. Its all about how much more can they charge, when I sold phones, I always made sure to have the cx pick a pair of beats, case, screen protector, and Bluetooth speaker with that new iPhone because cx, you don't have a headphone jack anymore. Oh, and hey, get a 128 gd iPhone because you take lots of pics, videos, and app downloads, its only 10 bucks more on your EIP lol.
Apple didn't adjusted the price while removing the Charger, Samsung adjusted the price and the s21 is cheaper than the Phones before.
So I don't see double standards here from Samsung.
But besides of that I really loved that video!
No microSD card slot is still a complete deal-breaker for me. It's a shame, I probably would have gotten this phone otherwise.
I don't get it, if you buy the 256gb or 512gb, is it sill not enough?
@@JoordezOrange Maybe they already have too much data stored on an external microSD card in their current phone

Last breed of reviewers who gets a handset from Samsung and yet speaks his mind within limits
it's sad they have removed MicroSD card support, one of the reasons I like Samsung Phones, Looks like I will be holding onto my note10+ for much longer
Same, but with my S10+
It's a bigger tragedy than people realize. People who defend Samsung like to say"most people don't even use the expandable storage."
Fine but most people don't buy flagship phones. The ones that do are power users and by getting rid of expandable storage You're basically telling them they have to pay more up front to get $256 gigabytes...Which basically erases any price benefit you get from last year's model.
or worse yet you need to upgrade to the S21 ultra because it's the only one with half a terabyte.
@@michael_c2 I totally Agree, When you are expected to pay top tier, you expect top tier functions. Putting the word Ultra on this phone, only resembles the price tag
I'm sticking with my S10 as well, now more than ever as I use it as a laptop with Dex so that storage is a really important feature.
Been looking into a V60 and the Xperia 5 mark ii specifically due to these increase omissions by modern Samsungs. Thank goodness other companies exist.
I'm staying with the Note 9 for now, hope that the Note 21 would have microSD.
I wouldnt keep my hopes high. :/
I really hope they would lose a lot of money.
too much money, that way they would realise their mistakes.
Unfortunately the only remaining option that has that and stylus support is LG.
They're hit and miss software wise but a option nonetheless should Samsung prove to be unbearable in the future.
golly bro! I was so worried if you would you switch or not. thanks for telling me

This video was like a film; I was surprised when it finished and I remembered it was supposed to be a phone review. Keep it up Michael; your style continues to be incredible.
Late to the party but finally picked up the S21 Ultra. I think it's an excellent device and I have to say for me it's a real tragedy there wasn't a Note 21 this year. Especially for those of us who've not decided to make the leap to foldables.
Let's see if no expandable storage is a mistake like Samsung did with the s6 and note 5 line or not
It won't be a mistake because online and cloud storage is available and supported everywhere- the lack of an SD Card doesn't matter to most.
@NG500 Glad to see other people are jumping off and not giving in to buying this crap.
SAMSUNG doesn’t care about users anymore.
Bring it back or not, I'm off the hype train. Samsung tryna be Apple of the android world.
@@arzeey fr. imagine trying to copy one of the worse companies out there.
The SD Card slot is very important to me but the base internal storage being much higher than it used to be may lead to fewer complaints. But, considering the higher file size of apps, images and videos taken with the phone, it may as well get the same response as the S6/Note5.
Just got the ultra. The camera is unlike anything I have ever seen. The quality is unrivalled with other brands

@@HeyGuy4321 almost all Xiaomi phone have that
I'm still not over the sd card removal
I'm still very upset and pissed
Yeah and now with LG possibly getting onto the mobile business it will be almost impossible to find a phone on the flagship level with an expandable SD card.
I'm generally trying to think of any.... Does OnePlus have expandable storage? Oppo?
Its expensive, unnecessary, complicated app developers with most not knowing how to use it, causes loads of issues for high bit rate camera applications as most people who buy an SD card go cheap with crappy ones. Who needs that stuff in 2021
@@michael_c2 Sony has everything with the Xperia 1 II, including a 3.5mm jack, sd support, notification led, camera button and side-mounted finger print. Those are specific perks, but except for the latter, they have nearly all been eliminated from (high-end) smartphones. Samsung: Look at these idiots at apple, removing the charge brick ... actually write that down
Then proceeds to make the S21 plastic and removes micro-sd and MST all in the same year yikes bro
This just show how much power Apple hold over other manufacturers
@@omarsabir1210 "Power they have over other manufacturers"? Apple does stuff because they want to, there's absolutely no obligations for other manufacturers to copy almost everything they do, whetever it's good or bad, yet they do it anyways because they THINK it's cool and think it's a selling point, even though many people complained about those changes over and over again. Notch? People complained yet they copied it. No headphone jack? Same thing. No SD card? Same. And now the lack of charger.

But the removal of the SD Card, leaves me questioning their loyalty to their customers. Overall it makes me unhappy and I will not be buying this.
Look at what Apple did to the Macbook Pro, when they removed the SD Card slot. It infuriated photographers around the world. And guess what: They are bringing it back for 2021..!!!
When you started taking 4K video, 256 wouldn't stand a chances. Shame that they put such a good camera in it.
The cloud is not a replacement for local storage, in any sense. We don't all have limitless data plans, and Google Photos won't be free, as of this coming Summer. 4K 60FPS video takes a lot of space. I also store my downloaded shows, movies and music on the sd card. The phone should start at 256gb, if they're stripping out the memory card slot.
I'm honestly getting super sick of phone manufacturers thinking they can include less every year. Yes, this is cheaper than last year's, but last year's shouldn't have been that expensive in the first place. This is still hundreds of dollars more than Samsung's previous top end S series (my S9+ was hundreds of dollars cheaper, for instance).
Sounds like pixar or disney voice narration. Smooth....
MrMobile has the absolute best voice for tech videos in the US. He could talk about sand and I'd be like, I feel like I need to go out and buy more sand.
Yeah... I will be keeping my old phones for a long time...
Lol
Man, I just remembered that my old Sony Xperia Z5 I got in 2015 had director's mode.
I'm holding out for the next gen when they bring back the SD card.
Unfortunately probably won't happen
Doubt they'll ever bring it back.
Really useful feature. But personally I think including a fucking charger or a headphone jack is more important. Regardless I dont understand why we are suddenly losing vital features in a world that is basically run by phones.
you know i watch your videos not for the reviews but for the entertainment value they have. enjoyable stuff
I'm personally done with Samsung. When my note 10+ dies, I'll be moving to a different brand. Samsung is just the Android apple now and if I really wanted an apple phone I'd go buy an iPhone.
Yea true their amazing phones are just too much for me. UGH I hate camera upgrades!!! 🤡🤡
I was kind of p*ssed when I heard there was no charging brick with the new Ultra but with an $800 credit for my Pixel 4a plus a $200 spending credit at Samsung.com, I can't complain. I got the 256 GB version so I won't miss the missing micro SD card slot though I still miss the headphone jack.
@@Clodrock In my country preordering the phone got me the free galaxy buds pro, the smart tag, along with a free clear case and a 25W charger so I'm honestly not angry at all. Also got the 256GB model
@@propersod2390 That's awesome. I figure with my $200 Samsung credit I get pretty much get some of those things. My carrier gave me an $800 discount in exchange for my Pixel 4a.
@@Clodrock $800 for a pixel 4a is actually so nice but also weird because that's double the cost of the phone isnt it?
I was so excited to grab this phone on launch day to replace my iPhone 12 Pro (I switched to apple for the 11 Pro for my UA-cam channel) and so far everyone’s complaining about the videos so my dreams are crushed :(
I've had the same microSD card in my phone since I had my Blackberry Curve back in 2010. The loss of the slot isn't big to me because I don't use it much anymore, but I guess we should have seen the death of the card slot coming when the headphone jack left.
I've never binged a channel over and over again until I subscribed to MrMobile. He is definitely in my top 5 favorite 'Tubers of all time. Even videos from 2017 are worth the watch despite the outdatedness since the video itself is just amazing! MrMobile makes the most high-quality content I've ever seen.
Props to you!
When it's called ultra but they're dropping feautures.
@@Zelknite and it still somehow becomes the best phone on the market.
@@Zelknite yeah. s21 ultra kills that phone. as well as s20 fe which is in the same price range. but to each their own.
Michael as always great vídeo! You have crafted your own style with pleasing esthetics and great video and audio quality! I hope your channel keeps growing. Greetings from Latin America.
Didn’t the S20 come out about 17 minutes ago?
No, a week ago
S20? You mean s21 the s20 came out a year ago.
Much better than MKBHD, even mentioned the lack of expandable storage.
Very well done! ^^
0:36 What is that call background you are using🤔

Lol you probably don't remember me but I helped you in best buy 2 years ago when you were visiting Las Vegas for CES keep up the videos!

"Two Davids & a Jaime" is an excellent band name or drinks order. Excellent video sir, thanks for informing and entertaining on this one!
This might ring true with some of the rest of you too
My phone's knackered and I've been due a phone upgrade for since last year but hardly see the point during covid
Better camera? I've not done anything to take photos of for months
Better battery life? I'm barely leaving the house so even if my phone had no battery and had to be used like a landline I'd cope
Just got this phone and the Jet 75 vacuum on Samsung’s site for $595. Insane deal and I’m so excited.
