Unfortunately the only remaining option that has that and stylus support is LG. They're hit and miss software wise but a option nonetheless should Samsung prove to be unbearable in the future.
it's sad they have removed MicroSD card support, one of the reasons I like Samsung Phones, Looks like I will be holding onto my note10+ for much longer
It's a bigger tragedy than people realize. People who defend Samsung like to say"most people don't even use the expandable storage." Fine but most people don't buy flagship phones. The ones that do are power users and by getting rid of expandable storage You're basically telling them they have to pay more up front to get $256 gigabytes...Which basically erases any price benefit you get from last year's model. or worse yet you need to upgrade to the S21 ultra because it's the only one with half a terabyte.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 I totally Agree, When you are expected to pay top tier, you expect top tier functions. Putting the word Ultra on this phone, only resembles the price tag
Been looking into a V60 and the Xperia 5 mark ii specifically due to these increase omissions by modern Samsungs. Thank goodness other companies exist.
5:00 couldn't agree more - I've had Galaxy for the last 4 or 5 generations and it is so annoying they keep treading the crappier path that Apple treads. Copy the great stuff, sure, just don't copy the awful stuff!
The SD Card slot is very important to me but the base internal storage being much higher than it used to be may lead to fewer complaints. But, considering the higher file size of apps, images and videos taken with the phone, it may as well get the same response as the S6/Note5.
This video was like a film; I was surprised when it finished and I remembered it was supposed to be a phone review. Keep it up Michael; your style continues to be incredible.
Late to the party but finally picked up the S21 Ultra. I think it's an excellent device and I have to say for me it's a real tragedy there wasn't a Note 21 this year. Especially for those of us who've not decided to make the leap to foldables.
Yeah and now with LG possibly getting onto the mobile business it will be almost impossible to find a phone on the flagship level with an expandable SD card. I'm generally trying to think of any.... Does OnePlus have expandable storage? Oppo?
Its expensive, unnecessary, complicated app developers with most not knowing how to use it, causes loads of issues for high bit rate camera applications as most people who buy an SD card go cheap with crappy ones. Who needs that stuff in 2021
@@michaelcorcoran8768 Sony has everything with the Xperia 1 II, including a 3.5mm jack, sd support, notification led, camera button and side-mounted finger print. Those are specific perks, but except for the latter, they have nearly all been eliminated from (high-end) smartphones. I yearn for the days where you buy the most expensive galaxy Note, and you knew you had everything AND the kitchen sink. (by the way, didn't Micheal say in his Xperia review he would talk about the video capabilities of the Xperia 1 II pro?)
No SD is just a slap in the face. Just so annoyed how they removed it!!! not to mention the reason: buy the more expensive version.. and I always had that SD car full of music and backups that are then easily placed on the new phone. Damn handy, and it doesn't need to be quick memory either. Not to mention that my 128GB is often full. So you feel like you MUST buy the 256 or 512GB version. Because you don't want to buy something that keeps getting full, even more so now with files taking in more space.
The point is that UFS is miles faster than microSD. Samsung's ufs 4.0 that releases in 2022 will make this storage even faster and cheaper. Get ready to see phones with 2tb storage soon enough.
@@zen608 NOT about speed. It is not the argument at all..... Those who use the MicroSD do not use it for the function of speed.... It is to use it on different mediums quick and easy. You can swap it between a camera, a phone and a computer/laptop far faster then any UFS can do on your phone by simply switching. Or when you swap a phone having your music or other important files backup really fast.
As MrMobile showed in this video, just use a USB-C thumb drive. You can plug-in USB-C in your desktop computer, and you won't need a MicroSD card reader.

The cloud is not a replacement for local storage, in any sense. We don't all have limitless data plans, and Google Photos won't be free, as of this coming Summer. 4K 60FPS video takes a lot of space. I also store my downloaded shows, movies and music on the sd card. The phone should start at 256gb, if they're stripping out the memory card slot. I'm honestly getting super sick of phone manufacturers thinking they can include less every year. Yes, this is cheaper than last year's, but last year's shouldn't have been that expensive in the first place. This is still hundreds of dollars more than Samsung's previous top end S series (my S9+ was hundreds of dollars cheaper, for instance).
I just loooove how you integrated star trek hints into your reviews :). And yeah... Great review, as always. But I'm not gonna let those Camera lenses pass without a comment... Samsung removing the SD Card slot in 2021... Apple Macbook Pro bringing back the SD Card slot in 2021... I was waiting for the Galaxy S21 Ultra to come out with these cameras!!! Awesome for photography. But the removal of the SD Card, leaves me questioning their loyalty to their customers. Overall it makes me unhappy and I will not be buying this. Look at what Apple did to the Macbook Pro, when they removed the SD Card slot. It infuriated photographers around the world. And guess what: They are bringing it back for 2021..!!!

I was so excited to grab this phone on launch day to replace my iPhone 12 Pro (I switched to apple for the 11 Pro for my UA-cam channel) and so far everyone’s complaining about the videos so my dreams are crushed :(
No word on the fact that using the camera for more than 15 min will make it heat up till it burns your hands. Especially on videoconferencing apps (teams, messenger, whatsup). Super review!
I've followed you since the early days, but I'll take a chance to say again your videos & reviews are just... exceptional. I've had the same microSD card in my phone since I had my Blackberry Curve back in 2010. The loss of the slot isn't big to me because I don't use it much anymore, but I guess we should have seen the death of the card slot coming when the headphone jack left.
One other thing worth considering from the Samsung advertising is that, at least here in the UK, they pushed and pushed and _pushed_ that with micro SD cards you can make your phone have up to 2 TB of storage with that _alone_ and yet now they're quietly brushing the fact they removed it under the rug, leaving reviewers to be the only ones who are mentioning it
I've never binged a channel over and over again until I subscribed to MrMobile. He is definitely in my top 5 favorite 'Tubers of all time. Even videos from 2017 are worth the watch despite the outdatedness since the video itself is just amazing! MrMobile makes the most high-quality content I've ever seen. Props to you!
regarding color options: that has always confused me, why would a more EXPENSIVE option offer LESS variety? like, shouldn't it be the other way around? lmfao....the call background thing came with the latest software update, i got it on my note 10+ a couple of days ago :) and agreed, with everything being streamed these days, i don't think it's a big deal for them to take out the microsd card slot...when they did that back when they released the note 5, i was NOT happy, lololol, not that i was upgrading from my note 4 at the time, but just the PRINCIPLE of it, THAT'S what mattered to me at the time X"D because all my music was on my phone and microsd card, but that doesn't apply anymore (now that everything is in the cloud, on spotify, etc)
And yet millions of people STILL hold onto that PRINCIPLE like you mentioned and refuse to go with the flow and rely on cloud/music streaming services, etc.

I really hope they would lose a lot of money.
too much money, that way they would realise their mistakes.
Unfortunately the only remaining option that has that and stylus support is LG.
They're hit and miss software wise but a option nonetheless should Samsung prove to be unbearable in the future.

Same, but with my S10+
It's a bigger tragedy than people realize. People who defend Samsung like to say"most people don't even use the expandable storage."
Fine but most people don't buy flagship phones.

It won't be a mistake because online and cloud storage is available and supported everywhere- the lack of an SD Card doesn't matter to most.

I'm still not over the sd card removal
I'm still very upset and pissed
Yeah and now with LG possibly getting onto the mobile business it will be almost impossible to find a phone on the flagship level with an expandable SD card.
I'm generally trying to think of any.... Does OnePlus have expandable storage? Oppo?
Its expensive, unnecessary, complicated app developers with most not knowing how to use it, causes loads of issues for high bit rate camera applications as most people who buy an SD card go cheap with crappy ones. Who needs that stuff in 2021

Michael's scripts are so fun, tight, and informative. One of the best in the game - as always.
I love the wallpaper you have on the home screen.

I've had the same microSD card in my phone since I had my Blackberry Curve back in 2010. The loss of the slot isn't big to me because I don't use it much anymore, but I guess we should have seen the death of the card slot coming when the headphone jack left.
One other thing worth considering from the Samsung advertising is that, at least here in the UK, they pushed and pushed and _pushed_ that with micro SD cards you can make your phone have up to 2 TB of storage with that _alone_ and yet now they're quietly brushing the fact they removed it under the rug, leaving reviewers to be the only ones who are mentioning it
Sounds like pixar or disney voice narration. Smooth....

regarding color options: that has always confused me, why would a more EXPENSIVE option offer LESS variety? like, shouldn't it be the other way around? lmfao....the call background thing came with the latest software update, i got it on my note 10+ a couple of days ago :) and agreed, with everything being streamed these days, i don't think it's a big deal for them to take out the microsd card slot...when they did that back when they released the note 5, i was NOT happy, lololol, not that i was upgrading from my note 4 at the time, but just the PRINCIPLE of it, THAT'S what mattered to me at the time X"D because all my music was on my phone and microsd card, but that doesn't apply anymore (now that everything is in the cloud, on spotify, etc)
