Google at the moment does not have an option to turn on 2FA when changing a security setting. Cookie + Password is a deadly combo and you will be locked out of your account completely as user can replace your 2FA, recovery options with his own. If google enables 2FA for changing a security setting at-least you can regain control of your account. Am I missing something here?

I like the idea of customizing login pages. The user would have some small piece of the page's styling without which the login page would appear very different. Certainly not a cure all, but it would be a hurdle for bad actors and a very noticeable red flag for users.
I've seen some Indian banks do it. Especially Punjab National Bank (my mom has a bank account there). They let you add a random image of a fruit or something on login page. For the longest time I used to wonder why does that feature exist

I don't know what is happening with me....just 2 days ago .my Google account got logged in 2 other devices I had no idea about....i came to know this when I opened UA-cam...search history was full of videos that I never searched ....i was shocked ....been using Google for so many years ..for the first time this happened...all i understood was that my account was compromised...i quickly jumped in account settings and found that my account was logged in other devices...then I changed password and enable 2fa....

Bhaiya, login ki location and ISP cannot be spoofed. You will get notification on your phone that you are accessing from new location.
You can recover also, even if password has changed. I have recovered multiple accounts. Help chaiye toh bolna.
The attack can easily be performed from "Edge". Attacker can spin up a EC2 instance very close to your sign in location to talk to Google, and if you happen to be in a city where data center exists (like Mumbai, NYC, etc.) it would appear as if you are the one logging in.
@@codedamn You do know that it tracks IP address and ISP in login activity as well, right ? And what are the chances of the other person being close to that data center. I would say rare. Unless it is a very specific attack dedicated for a person.

Are we really secure even if we pay attention to the URL,? With attacks like DNS Poising or any other DNS level attack, the URL could actually look like its from google. How could we make sure it's actually google then?
Of course combining multiple attacks together can be an extremely dangerous combo. But performing a DNS level attack would usually require you to compromise either the host somehow, or exploit some vulnerability outside of browsers. Either way, combining multiple sophisticated attacks can make it dangerous to detect.
For that to work they would have to clear their cache, I have learned through trial and error there are a lot of attacks like ssl strip BeEF hook that only work with outdated browsers and are very old school
