In this 'How To' demonstration video, you'll be taken through the various steps needed to perform a basic Swedish Back Massage, including preparation, relaxing your client and various massage strokes and techniques.

I used to be a receptionist at a spa here in the states and even though I’d sit and talk with the massage therapists, asking questions and such, I feel like I didn’t learn much. But I learned so much in this video. I know this is geared toward actual professional therapists but it’s broken down so well, any layman could do it. And I greatly appreciate that!
i found this video last summer and i just found it again and i am SO happy i did. im just a massage enthusiast, but this is one of my favorite massage videos on youtube. i often get distracted during massages trying to envision what the therapist is doing, but this helped me to understand better and to be able to enjoy my massages even more, especially with being able to understand the amazing work my therapists are doing!

I think I've been a masseuse for too long, all I can think is about is my massage teacher yelling "straighten your posture, you'll ruin your back!" and "cut your nails!!".

fruzzlepuff If you think you've been out of the loop for too long. I think you should look up what that word really means. 'Masseurs' and 'Masseuses' are negative connotations related to prostitution. Unless you work at a (sex) Parlour. If you work at a clinic or under a clinical setting, and have the right credentials, refer to the title Massage Therapist or Massage Technician, or whatever credentials you have. If not then you shouldn't represent the profession.
Or we could just call it a masseuse and not assume that they're all prostitutes because that's not what the term masseuse means.
massage technician... seriously.. changing the name doesn't change the job. i could call myself a custodial engineer if you want but doesn't change the fact i clean shit up. just makes me sound pompous when i say the name

There's a bunch of female massage therapists saying a lot of mean things about this girl just because she's attractive. Don't be a hater. Truth is, looking good and taking care of yourself is important for your business. Your body is your resume. I wouldn't go to a therapist that was super pissed off and overweight. Her physical appearance is a direct reflection of how she cares for her clients.

Even with me being in Intro to Massage, I have learned you work out just to give someone a proper massage. She needs to stand up straight and do lunges as she works, otherwise her back will be killing her by the end of the day, and she’ll actually sweat more not lunging. Her long nails with polish are actually a hygiene no no.
The people critiquing her massage are actual professionals who see what she's doing wrong. It has nothing to do with her looks. You're clearly an idiot who shouldn't have bothered leaving a comment.
@@randomuser1105 what professionals? the professionals I never come back to? I get massages from many places 2 times a month every year for years. I will say a lot of these professionals criticizing her doing something wrong prolly wouldn't know they are dissatisfying clients like me. just saying, you could be right, but professionals commenting means nothing to me.
@@jensmith7896 she's doing a video, having to keep in mind being at the right angle for the camera to view everything. This isn't a video of her typical work day, so there's no way to judge what she actually does when she's working.
Funny how just watching someone get a massage can actually be relaxing- kind of like seeing people reuniting at the airport can make you feel warm and fuzzy. Katie has a very soothing voice as well! This video is really helpful for the average person who wants to give better massages, despite some of the critiques posted here - a few by "students", and someone who took one whole class. Okay... BTW I didn't hear the model complain once- and I'd have happily taken her place. If anything Katie did was "wrong", I don't want it to be right!

The model's goosebumps had shown how much she was enjoying the careful attention you payed to her and this massage was hitting all the right tension spots. All of the negative comments were uncalled for. If some of you have to be so negative then either keep it to yourself or stop watching. She puts time and love into all of her videos! Starting school in the Spring and i’ve been practicing massages to get ahead of the game. Did this on my partner and they melted! They have a lot of lower back issues, and usually don’t want people touching there because it hurts a lot. With this massage, though, I was able to bring a lot of relief to that area, and they felt no pain at all.

This appeared to be very relaxing. Just watching made me want a massage from you. This was also informative and simple for someone like myself, wanting to learn a few beginner techniques. I would pay you to massage me, nails and all. Btw, us "regular folks" aka the folks paying for your services, aren't paying attention to your red nail polish and whether or not your nails are long. All we want is to feel relaxed . And this looked relaxing!!

I though about that. I'm not worried about the price. I see most places are roughly a dollar a minute kinda deal. My confusion starts with what massage is what? And what the focus is per type massage. There are so many to choose from as well. There are businesses and people who are licensed just working from home. How do you know who to pick? Lol!

I think this is a lovely technique and enjoyed the video. However as a therapist body mechanics are extremely important, and makes a huge difference in the amount of pressure delivered, especially working on tension areas in the body. Ive just finished another ad on course in Bangkok where I live and it was drummed into me, as otherwise you do get injuries and back aches yourself long term. I'm not opposed to nail polish, but you can't massage well with nails that long as they scratch the skin. Thanks for sharing this technique as I too love reviewing and adding all the time.

When the client is face down, the bolster pillow needs to be located supporting under the ankles, not the knees. When client is face up, that is when the bolster pillow is located under the knees. Besides that, good video.

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist; 3 years of working in the field so far. This massage was very good! The only piece of advice I have for a service provider who may be giving a massages- when massaging at the lumbar area, above the Gluteal "Cleft", your hands need to go in the same direction when massaging or the skin can be pulled apart and it could hurt the client. I feel like this woman performing the session was in her element! She had a light in her eyes as she was explaining throughout the massage; her knowledge of anatomy was very impressive and she even used some 'classic', techniques that seasoned Massage Therapists often use! This woman is soothing and very calming to watch. During this time of quarantine from the Corona Virus of 2020, these videos have been binge-watched and I must say, I do believe she lowered my blood pressure considerably!
