1. Yeah I've had some people point that out. I appreciate the feedback for sure. I actually just recently released a dedicated True Crown guide video where I point that out and correct myself. 2. I was also aware of the guaranteed altar at the bottom of The Palace of Pleasure but chose to omit that just for efficiencies sake. Sometimes I don't want to get too sidetracked or go into too much detail about something that I could cover in another video. I super appreciate the feedback though! I'm always working to make my videos better and I'm able to do that in part due to the comments and criticisms and pieces of advice from my viewers!

Yeah I was trying to keep the list short and simple with pretty early and easily accessible methods. The push block option is a super good idea that I could have included. I realized after making the video that you can probably destroy the ball and chain with anything that crushes or destroys blocks (excluding explosions). So Olmec, the crushing blocks in Temple of Anubis, Pangxie's crab arm in Tidal Pool, etc.

On a side note, I'm fairly certain that the ball and chain can be destroyed through any means of crushing, including being underneath a push block, elevators in neo and Almec's head! To go with that, in order to fulfill the beg questline for the true crown, I don't believe you actually need to destroy multiple Kali alters, you simply need to destroy the one, encounter beg, and then curse yourself (it seems you need to destroy multiple because doing that is a method of getting cursed) through things like hitting yourself with the ghost pot, and the witch doctors flying skull should do the trick.
I'm right there with you. I also assumed mounts would be worth more when I started just because they're new and tanky and slightly harder to come by than other creatures like horned lizards or cavemen but unfortunately Kali seems pretty cheap about them XD. As for the ball and chain you're definitely right. Aside from explosions, anything in the game that destroys blocks or crushes stuff can be used to break the ball and chain. I bet Pangxie's crab arm attack in the Tidal Pool zone even does it. On the true crown topic you are absolutely right again. I found out just recently from some other comments that you can curse yourself via other methods which will cause Beg to show up again after your first interaction with him. Final facts that I thought were interesting are that using the camera on the explosive robot causes him to go of and explode even though the camera does not set of explosions or a least the explosive trap in the lava world. The camera does not instantly kill the fire bug which I thought was weird.
This could be super useful for those times when there is a robot blocking your path and you don't have the height to be able to jump onto his head. I definitely didn't know this. Thanks for the comments!
true crown is pretty safe if you make sure there is an empty safe spot 6 blocks ahead from you right before the teleport. you can also get to the places you would need a teleporter for otherwise.
True Crown can be a very strong item because of all the bombs it gives you as long as you are being safe about the teleport. I just feel like it takes even more awareness in an already difficult and dangerous game to keep track of your 22 second intervals and all the empty safe space in front of you. Definitely high risk/high reward
@@utaushio5911 nah, 22 bombs each 22 seconds are way more than enough to clear the path for you and there is also a timer in the hud, only reason why it can be risky is because you need to be cursed to acquire it, but it can be fixed with enough sacrifice. so if you get cursed, you may consider blowing kali instead of sacrificing to her to get this powerful item
@@iskamag don't get me wrong, you're absolutely right. 22 bombs every 22 seconds is amazing and it makes it easy to clear out safe space in front of you as well as drill straight through a level. If that's a strategy that works for you then its totally a very powerful item. I think what I was trying to say is that at least for me personally its an item that stresses me out because my playstyle is already pretty reckless 😅
What's up! I'm glad to hear it. I'm super stoked that you enjoyed the video and I'm glad you found it helpful. The other method for getting the Kapala is actually through the Ghist shop and I explain it in detail in my other guide video about being cursed in Spelunky 2!
Thanks, I appreciate that! I was also sad when I found out that they don't give any favor points because I had been going out of my way to sacrifice them before I knew
Utaushio I just had a run where I had the camera and I found some fun facts. 1. You can stop the ghost p.s. I think you know this one. 2. If you take a picture of the grave in the dead are restless level you get the journal entry for ghist not ghist shopkeeper. 3. If you take a picture of small enemies then they die but you can instantly kill vampires with it as well. 4. If you take a picture of scarabs then instead of them dying you collect the gold without touching them. But I stopped and paused my run so I will write another comment if I find more facts for future video maybe.
This is some serious dedication! These are amazing comments. Thank you so much for being so supportive and for checking out the videos and even more importantly for sharing such fantastic information. A few of these things I definitely already knew but there are also a couple things that I didn't know so I'm super glad you shared. It feels amazing to have an audience that wants to engage and be helpful and I appreciate the comment. I'll definitely take note of these camera facts so I can make an awesome video about it in the future!
Great video! For the True Crown though, don't you just have to be cursed to meet Beg for the second time? You don't have to destroy three altars, right? I think you can just curse yourself (Witch Doctor or Curse Pot) after destroying the first one and then he'll spawn. Unless they patched it…
That's a really interesting question. I'd have to investigate that theory to know for sure. I know that Beg shows up at the next altar after you blow one up (skipping of course altars where he already showed up on) and you definitely need to be cursed when you speak to him to get the True Crown. I think you do have to destroy 3 altars because I don't believe he'll give you the Crown on the first encounter. It's more like a quest line where you have to interact with him once and receive his bomb bag in order for it to trigger him giving you the Crown on the next meetup. I'll play around and get back to you though if you can in fact get the Crown on the first encounter
@@utaushio5911 Oh, you can't get it on the first encounter for sure, but I think you can get it on the second encounter assuming you're cursed. I don't think the quest is "destroy 3 altars", it's "meet Beg again while cursed". That's how I got the True Crown, but it could have been patched
@@orionng195 ahhh I see what you're saying. Yeah the quest is definitely "meet beg a second time while cursed" I just thought the only way to see him twice was by destroying 3 altars. Is there another way?
@@utaushio5911 the only purpose of destroying the 3rd altar is so Kali can curse you. You can actually get the True Crown just by destroying 1 altar, meeting Beg on the 2nd one (without having to actually destroy it) then getting curse via a ghost pot (hold one and get rolled by a lizard works) or a witch doctor. If you are cursed by the 3rd altar you will meet Beg again and he will give you the Crown.
@@utaushio5911 Yeah, after destroying the first altar, meet him on the second one, where he'll give you a bomb bag. Then purposely curse yourself (Witch Doctor, Cat Mummy or Curse Pot) and on the next altar he'll be there. It's a lot safer than having so much negative favour with Kali
That's a fantastic idea! That would definitely be something that could be useful. I really appreciate the suggestion. I'll add that topic to my list of things to cover soon
That last item that Kali can take (I forgot the name) isn't random what you get it depends on how much Kali favor you have 0> vampire 0-7 caveman 8-15 turkey 16-23 hired hand 24+ hired hand with weapon
Indeed! Vice versa you can also pull excalibur out of the ground in Tidal Pool with the Hedjet or the Crown. They are actually interchangeable in any quest function so you have the freedom to choose whichever path you like. Just note that the True Crown item I mentioned in this video does not count as a Crown/Hedjet
Does sacrificing yourself give favour points? ...I don't think the City of Gold altar will give favour points for self-sacrifice, since I have never seen an item appear there, but what about normal altars?
@Songbirds correctly pointed out that you can sacrifice human players if you're in multiplayer and it's actually worth 6 favor points which is pretty good. To be honest with you though I'm not sure if sacrificing yourself in a single player run gives points. My guess is that it would also give 6 points but obviously in single player it would just end the run immediately and not be worthwhile unless you had the ankh to revive with.
I'm fairly sure that at least in the first game sacrificing yourself with the ankh gave favor points so it's probably the same in Spelunky 2 if you sacrifice yourself outside the city of gold.
You're totally right. When I said Kali is a mysterious Spelunky goddess I meant mysterious in the scope of the Spelunky world since the game doesn't tell you anything about her or how she operates
Unlike the first game, the golden monkey actually follows the player, behaving similarly to spiders. He won't despawn, rather he stops pooping treasure after a certain time.
Yeah old habits die hard. I appreciate the comment and input. Simply stopping pooping treasure means that he won't give me money anymore but I can still use his body as a weapon against my enemies
@@utaushio5911 Actually, you can't hit anything by throwing the monkey. I don't know the reason why but yeah, he's pretty much useless once he stops pooping.
i noticed the captions dont have commas or periods, and sentences are clipped into two entire sections are you using something to automatically fill in the captions? if you need help with getting smoother captions i could help from time to time
Hey I appreciate the offer. Right now youtube auto fills the captions and I try to go in and edit them for typos and things like that but I haven't been checking the whole script's worth of subtitles for punctuation and things like that. I can go back in and clean them up to make sure they are properly formatted! If I eve need any help I'll let you know!
Glad you're enjoying what you see! I aim to please! I super appreciate the positive words and the high praise. Your channel is looking pretty fire itself I might add
In terms of functioning, useable altars, there are 2 guaranteed spawns. The City of Gold will always have an altar that can be used regularly or to go to Duat using the Ankh and there will always be an altar at the bottom of Madame Tusk's palace!
It was also possible in Spelunky to drop the ball and chain out of the ice caves to get rid of it. Not sure if that is still the case but it seems likely.
That's a really interesting idea. It very well may still be possible but it would be a bit harder in Spelunky 2 with how much extra space they added off the bottom screen for the Alien Mothership. I'd be curious to test it out
Are the Ushabti like, free favor? If you just get a lot of hired hands and you immediately sacrifice them back, that sounds like an easy way to get a whole lot of Royal Jelly
This is a fantastic question! I had the exact same thought and I actually tried to find that out while I was recording footage but in classic Spelunky fashion I died horribly before I could find the answer. I'd have to do some more testing or perhaps somebody else in the comment section knows the answer for sure but I would be inclined to think that it probably does!
@@shybandit521 Yeah it's possible that Mossmouth thought about this and coded them to be worth 0 favor so you couldn't spam it. I'm just not positive one way or the other. I would have to do some more experimenting to find out. Or if you find out the answer sooner be sure to let me know!
Hmmm. That's really interesting. Perhaps it's a patch difference between what I was playing on at the time and what you were playing on. I'd have to check the patch notes to be sure. I am certain that at the time of my recording you could not get the kapala at 16 points AND cure curse at the same time. Likely a patch difference. I really appreciate the input though!
The altar in Madame Tusk's place doesn't really have any special features. It just does everything a normal altar does. The only special thing about it is that it always spawns there no matter what so you at least can always count on finding a guaranteed altar on that floor
I'm sorry that you felt a lack of information from my video. I assure you it wasn't due to lack of effort. I work very hard on my videos and I'm improving everyday with help and comments and suggestions from my viewers! Seeing as this video was primarily about Kali altars I didn't want to stray too far off topic because I'm working on another guide series specifically about all 54 items in the game. I will discuss the True Crown in more detail in my video specifically dedicated to it.
@@HanakkoLove No worries. My videos certainly aren't flawless and like you said, as time passes and I learn more and get more experienced the videos should improve as well. I appreciate the feedback and constructive criticism. Have a good one!

Yeah I can definitely look into that. Thats extremely helpful feedback. I'm still not an expert yet on video recording and editing so any helpful advice is much appreciated! Thanks a ton for the support and advice and I'm really glad you enjoyed the guide! More content is on the way
Thank you very much, this was pretty helpful. I just have one open question that I hope someone can answer: What happens if you already passed 16 favor points before getting cursed? Do you just keep going until the next multiple of 8 for favor points, do you have to intentionally lower it and then get it back to 16 or is it just literally impossible to uncurse yourself with this method?
I actually talk about this in my other guide video about being cursed in Spelunky 2. The first method for getting the cup is by sacrificing to Kali like I mention in this video. The second method is getting it from the hidden Ghist Shop on floor 1-4
Great guide. Even though I knew most of these, there was a few things I didn't know of yet. Like the hermit crabs and leprechauns not giving any points. Wonder why?
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed the content and learned something new. There are probably lots of veterans and even people new to Spelunky who have figured out a lot of this stuff on their own but hopefully I can still provide some new and helpful information. And I don't know why hermit crabs and leprechauns are worth 0. I guess Kali just hates them!
I don't believe you can get multiple kapalas from the Kali altar but there are 2 total ways to get kapala in general so I suspect it would be possible to have 2 kapalas in multiplayer
I honestly have no idea why they don't give any favor. Maybe there is some hidden lore reason. Maybe Derek Yu just hates crabs XD. Unfortunately all I know at this time is that they don't give any favor, not sure why.
@@utaushio5911 I'll just choose to believe that Kali see crabs as her many-armed brethren, for now. And many thanks for the guide. It's really well put together!
The way I found out about the true crown was by accident. In a run a altar was destroyed by the drill but in the run I never had a ball and chain or curse and in the temple I was given the true crown. I think it was a one time glitch
@Blue Pit is correct. I want to keep my guides as informative and helpful as possible and I'm certainly not immune to mistakes. The method that I discuss in the video of destroying 3 altars is certainly a correct method but I've been informed after posting the video that there are actually easier ways that only involve destroying 1 altar! Thanks for the feedback! Maybe that's a clarification I could make. Either way, the profitability and lucrative part of the monkey goes away after a set amount of time
Hey friend, I'm working on guide videos for my channel where I go into detail about what items do and how to get them so hopefully you can check some of those out as I release them. In the meantime the kapala is an item that lets you collect the little tiny blood droplets that appear whenever things get hit, or killed, or sacrificed or anything like that. Every 8 blood droplets that you collect gives you 1 heart so it's a super useful healing item that can help get you a ton of health if done correctly
Hahaha I get that. Teleporting is super fun but very risky and dangerous. I actually have a full explanation of how teleporting works in my guide video about the True Crown if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a ton for the sub, it really means a lot to me. Seeing people enjoy the videos and being able to provide helpful information is what motivates me to keep making more!
Leprechaun worth 0? Weird. Anyway, I always sacrificed basically anything I could other than the damsel in Classic and would keep doing so until I ran out of bodies (even running circles around the ghost to keep doing it). And if the damsel was dead, I'd sacrifice the body.
Yeah I'm honestly not sure why certain creatures are worth 0 but unfortunately they are. And I totally get that! I used to do the same. I would spend so much time running around trying to sacrifice as many things as possible. I don't really do that anymore though since they made the ghost a lot harder to dodge after long periods of time. Thanks for the input though and for checking out the video! Have an awesome day
@@utaushio5911 My favorite place to sacrifice is definitely the Ice Cave. I'd always get the kapala earlier if I could, but being able to sacrifice all those yetis is well worth it, I'm likely to have at least two of the jetpack, climbing glove, or cape by then, and there's a lot of open space to maneuver through. Getting used to not having "Kali sets your bombs to 99 no matter how low you were running" as a reward is definitely worthy of consideration though.
Hired hands and pets are the best sacrifice. But turkeys are the worst sense they only give 2 alive and not eight and also you can cook them to get cooked turkey that gives a heart Its better to cook a turkey then to save a pet
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. I've been grinding a ton of Spelunky 2 for info and footage and I'm pretty sure I've received paste from Kali in the sequel as well but if I'm being completely honest I can't remember everything for sure. It's possible that was only a reward in Spelunky HD that I assumed carried over but I think I've found it as a reward in Spelunky 2 as well
I was actually wondering about that, since I haven't seen paste as a reward from Kali at all in Spelunky 2. The devs really made it hard to get it, huh... As a side note, I've noticed that the climbing gloves are seemingly the most common reward, while the skeleton key seems to be the least common. Maybe that's just me though
Hahaha that's brutal. I'm sorry that happened to you although you know how things are with Spelunky. It's only a matter of time before some ridiculous new way to die catches up with you.

I ran into Beg on accidient one time. Now I know why he appeared!
What's the other way to get the Kapala tho?
Edit: I Saw your other Cursed Guide and you can get the Kapala in a ghist shop present.
Yep! Sorry if it wasn't clear in this video but I'm glad you found your way to the other one. The ghist shop present is indeed the second way to get the kapala
Well done! I loved this, and found it very helpful as a veteran spelunker curious if the favor system was the same! Keep it up, I can’t wait to see more spelunky 2 guides from you!
(P.S. you can destroy the ball and chain with the metal shield as well!)
Thank you so much for all the kind words! I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me. I'm having a blast with these videos so you can be absolutely sure that there will be more to come!!
@@utaushio5911 and I will be sure to watch them.
Hey great video!
Hey thanks a ton for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed
true crown is pretty safe if you make sure there is an empty safe spot 6 blocks ahead from you right before the teleport. you can also get to the places you would need a teleporter for otherwise.
@@utaushio5911i really play recklessly for fun, and risking my whole run for a shit ton of explosions is a great choice for me

@Utaushio, you have a nice way of picking my interest!
How about this alternative way of getting a Kapala then!? ;)
Thanks for the guide.
What's up! I'm glad to hear it. I'm super stoked that you enjoyed the video and I'm glad you found it helpful. The other method for getting the Kapala is actually through the Ghist shop and I explain it in detail in my other guide video about being cursed in Spelunky 2!
@@utaushio5911 Damn, I already forgot... :(
Alright, next objective: entering the Ghist shop!
All good my friend. Best of luck getting to that Ghist shop! It's super fun in my opinion because it's very high risk/high reward
Awesome vid! I had no idea hermit crabs and leprechauns gave 0 favor points.
Hey man. Can you nake complete Ushabti guide? I lost like 3 good runs becuz i pick the wrong one... Not even a note on wiki (at least i didn't found).
That's a fantastic idea! That would definitely be something that could be useful. I really appreciate the suggestion. I'll add that topic to my list of things to cover soon
That last item that Kali can take (I forgot the name) isn't random what you get it depends on how much Kali favor you have
0> vampire
0-7 caveman
8-15 turkey
16-23 hired hand
24+ hired hand with weapon
If I’m not mistaken, carefully lowering the punish ball into the abyss can destroy it
Wow Never knew that you could use the Crown to get in the city of gold instead of the hedjet
In multiplayer you can sacrifice your coop partners.
it did in spelunky HD
Just one thing: Kali is a "real" godess

2:10 "There are a couple levels with guaranteed altars"
Which levels? Sorry if this was covered, I don't think I picked up on it
The Golden city and Madam Tusk's palace in Neo Babylon.
@@utaushio5911 see what I'm worried about is that Ushtabi spawned Hired Hands are worth 0 favor
@@shybandit521 Yeah it's possible that Mossmouth thought about this and coded them to be worth 0 favor so you couldn't spam it. I'm just not positive one way or the other. I would have to do some more experimenting to find out. Or if you find out the answer sooner be sure to let me know!
6:00 this isn't true (at least as of the current patch) as I've gotten cured from curse and received the kapala from kali.
What about the altar at Madame Tusk? It seems special.
The altar in Madame Tusk's place doesn't really have any special features. It just does everything a normal altar does. The only special thing about it is that it always spawns there no matter what so you at least can always count on finding a guaranteed altar on that floor
@@utaushio5911 Thanks. 👍
You didn't mention that there are other methods to obtain the True Crown, which is pretty lackluster to say the least
I'm sorry that you felt a lack of information from my video. I assure you it wasn't due to lack of effort. I work very hard on my videos and I'm improving everyday with help and comments and suggestions from my viewers! Theres like a 20% chance a altar will be broken when you enter volcano cause those. Jumping lava monsters will hit a robot and it will explode
Thank you very much, this was pretty helpful. I just have one open question that I hope someone can answer:
What happens if you already passed 16 favor points before getting cursed? Do you just keep going until the next multiple of 8 for favor points, do you have to intentionally lower it and then get it back to 16 or is it just literally impossible to uncurse yourself with this method?
Only OGs remember playing the original spelunking that pixilated shit was great
Does the golden monkey count as a pet for favor point purposes?
Unfortunately no
What’s the second way to get the cup from kali

Basically for the no altar levels: no altars on pre made levels
And 1-1
Thats a good clarification! Thanks for the feedback
Can you get more than one kapala in multiplayer runs?
I don't believe you can get multiple kapalas from the Kali altar but there are 2 total ways to get kapala in general so I suspect it would be possible to have 2 kapalas in multiplayer
Is there a reason why hermit crabs don't give any favor?
I honestly have no idea why they don't give any favor. Maybe there is some hidden lore reason. Maybe Derek Yu just hates crabs XD. Unfortunately all I know at this time is that they don't give any favor, not sure why.
@@utaushio5911
I'll just choose to believe that Kali see crabs as her many-armed brethren, for now.
And many thanks for the guide. It's really well put together!
The way I found out about the true crown was by accident. In a run a altar was destroyed by the drill but in the run I never had a ball and chain or curse and in the temple I was given the true crown. I think it was a one time glitch
No, you just need to destroy one altar. You just need to be cursed when finding the third altar.
I'll be absolutely sure to make that correction in my guide video specifically dedicated to the True Crown.
Thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated! As I mentioned to @MeltingShibe I learned a bit more about the True Crown after posting this video. You guys sharing your knowledge and information with me in the comments is a great way to help add to my knowledge base so I can continue to make even more helpful and informative guides so Thank you! I'll be making the correction in my guide video dedicated specifically to the True Crown
I'm pretty sure the monkey doesn't despawn as I got one and took him through 3 levels. He stops pooping gold and jewels after a while, but yea.
Thanks for the feedback! Maybe that's a clarification I could make. Either way, the profitability and lucrative part of the monkey goes away after a set amount of time
Ball and chain can also be broken by the bear traps
Yeah that's a super easy one too. Basically anything that destroys objects will also destroy ball and chain. Thanks a ton for the comment!
What does the Kapala do?
Hey friend, I'm working on guide videos for my channel where I go into detail about what items do and how to get them so hopefully you can check some of those out as I release them.
In the meantime the kapala is an item that lets you collect the little tiny blood droplets that appear whenever things get hit, or killed, or sacrificed or anything like that. Every 8 blood droplets that you collect gives you 1 heart so it's a super useful healing item that can help get you a ton of health if done correctly
