Everytime i hear "And when you can't sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies)" my heart broke a little, but I'm so proud of her for the re-recording. Great reaction, guys.
She has always been an astonishingly talented songwriter, but Folklore and Evermore take her craft to another level. She wrote them both in quarantine, the perfect environment for such deep reflection and creativity. Love your heartfelt reaction!
There is a reason Folklore won AOTY. It is a masterpiece. And it saved me. I was in a VERY dark place when it came out and I listened to it 24/7 and by time Evermore came out 5 mos later, I was just beginning to feel like it wasn’t holding me up anymore, then she gave me Evermore. I will forever live her because her music REALLY helped me. I wish I could do Patreon. I am currently not working (I AM TRYING… to get one but have health issues), so I appreciate what you can put on YT, even if you have to hack it up so it doesn’t get blocked.
Hopefully it doesn’t get blocked. “Chopping it up” to pass the blocking algorithms is very time consuming and we also feel it takes away from the experience to those who watch with us.

Jack Antanoff and ?? Dessner (Can’t remember his 1st name) are her main producers. Antanoff is an 8 time Grammy winner for Producer of the Year, several from Taylor’s songs and a few from her albums. He’s brilliant and is choosey what artist he works with. Keep up your great reactions. Love that you don’t talk during her performances and listen to her lyrics and give us your analysis when song is over. ❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Jack is the producer on these two tracks, he’s her BFF and collaborator on most of her projects from the past 9 years. He won producer of the year last year. He’s a songwriter and musician too. He’s the writer and frontman for the band FUN and the Bleachers. He also has produced some of the biggest names, such as Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Bruce Springsteen. But he’s mostly known for his collaborations with Taylor.
“My Tears Ricochet” is about her stolen “lullabies” and each line from the first chorus is related to a song from each of her 6 stolen albums! “I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace) “You’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman) “And if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead) “Cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You) “wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay) “Look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)
Every single line of that song is a direct arrow to what happened with Scott Borchetta. It´s a masterpiece from my point of view (beautiful song): I can go anywhere I want... anywhere just not home. And yes, there she is, fighting and re-recording to recover those stolen lullabies. (Jewels that I gave you= gold, platinum, diamond albums), etc.
This is one of my favorite songs of hers, although I can't listen to it often because it breaks me a little bit every time. But OMG you just enlightened me with this analysis and I thank you friend!
I relate to this through having a chronic pain condition. Society can be cruel to those struggling with mental health issues, disabilities etc. Chances are these people beat themselves up mentally over their problems ten times harder than any outsider could ever do. How hard they try is not always recognized. Taylor did a beautiful job at showing empathy towards those who are struggling. Thank you for reacting to these songs guys.
You really hit the nail on the head, how her songs especially this is me trying, put real life things into words/songs. This is one of the reasons why she is popular, her lyrics are very relatable, often easily putting into words what people think but cannot put into words. Her lyrics help HER understand her own situations, emotions, and putting them into song / poems helps her. And, through that, other people have realized how it helps them too. That’s why people related to it, its often coming from a place real.
I've struggled with mental health and addiction issues. So, I get what Nathan was trying to say about This Is Me Trying. The song made me feel understood. The lines that spoke to me the most were "I've been having a hard time adjusting..i had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting" and "they told me all my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential" There are many songs from her that made me feel like she read me like a book. For example, Antihero. That's why i sometimes get a little annoyed whenever people try to put Taylor's music in a box and make assumptions about her artistry.
Champagne Problems, Tolerate it (track 5), Evermore and Coney Island (feauring The National) are another sad beautiful songs on Evermore. Also, on the Evermore there is a song titled Marjorie which is about Taylor's grand mother Marjorie Finlay, it's really a beautiful song. Epiphany on Folklore is about Covid and war (her grand father was a soldier and he didn't talk about it because it was too hard for him, but she explains everything on the folklore long pond session). Thank you for posting your videos on UA-cam, I really like your reactions! I can't wait for your next Taylor reaction! Also, I really like when you're making long videos!
That sigh at the end of "my tears ricochet" says it all... by the way, there is an album of this recording. It's called "Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions" and it is exactly the recording you see on this videos. I luckiely have it on vinyl because it's damn expensive now, around 300 Dollars.
i’ve been dealing with mental health my whole fucking life so this is me trying HITS so hard i can’t even listen to that one most days hahahahah it’s hard, taylor has had her blues as well and she puts it into words so beautifully❤ it hurts but it heals!
Just tweeted it to my fellow Swifties. I'm not big in that universe, but hopefully somebody will pick it up and retweet it. Maybe it'll draw a few more views.
Btw you can’t appreciate it in the studio version but in the album they add haunting sounds to the song “my tears ricochet” and I personally find that so hauntingly beautiful because she is talking about the ghost of someone and the story they had together so yeah I recommend you guys to also listen to that version
The commentary after This Is Me Trying (Swifties abbreviate all songs so in that spirit, TIMT) was spot on. My son got me into her years ago, and the one consistent thing about Taylor is her emotional intelligence, self-awareness and ability to frame complex emotions. Wishing you all the best in the new year. Have a Swift day
This is me trying is so heart wrenching, especially with the extra explanation from her and Jack. It hits home for so so many people and it is quite comforting, glad Nathan connected with it so much!
It may sound silly, but This Is Me Trying is one of my favorite songs of all time because it really helped me. During 2020 I was in the mids of a terribly dark place with my struggles with depression, Folklore came out, and when I heard this song I broke down because I felt that I wasn't alone, like Nathan said I felt understood, and it was one of the things that made me take the step to ask for help and go to therapy. I'm in a much better place today and that song will always make me emotional, I think you guys nailed what Taylor was going for. Although I'll say that Taylor hasn't struggled with addiction she has struggled with anxiety, depression, and insomnia. PS: Fun fact, Jack's jackets must work because he went to his prom with Scarlett Johansson as his date.
The added lyrics at the end of My Tears Ricochet are just so beautiful, they made the song even greater than it already was, if that is even possible 🙏🏼
As someone struggling with depression, past eating disorder and stuff, This is me trying is very important to me. Because yes, even if I'm better now, I still feel out of place at times. I still get thoughts and I probably will for the rest of my life and every time I will have to say no and reason with myself. My mom who is very supportive by the way, the best mom really, doesn't really understand that though and she gets frustrated which is totally okay, everyone does, but sometimes this song is what plays in my head during such moments. When it's hard to go to school, when I want to get drunk despite knowing I shouldn't (I'm not an alcoholic, but I do drink with my friends sometimes and sometimes I really want to drink just to make those feelings away. It's hard to resist all the time, it's exhausting at times, but I'm on medication and I have a tendency to fall into the thoughts when I do and am left unattended. But I have great friends, so it's been getting better.) Anyways, love the song. BTW I always loved some of her songs, I wouldn't say I was a fan back then, but some of her song and lyrics were amazing.
I'm sure someone says it super quickly in the comments, but it's worth noting that she has struggled with serious depression, as well as anorexia on and off for years. So these issues are close to her, I think.
I get the feeling you guys don't know that Jack started two bands, and was a front man for Fun and Bleachers before he became a producer (first time with Taylor in 2013). They are both excellent bands
All the songs from the Long Pond Studio Sessions are of the album Folklore Sadly, there isn't a live studio session for the Evermore album :( This Is Me Trying is such a personal song to me, it hits so close to home. I adore it, it puts into words some stuff I'm struggling with and so it helps deal with it- knowing someone understands. Loved the reaction 💜
I felt that on another level I was cheated on by my fiancée 5 months ago and he won’t stop calling I changed my number blocked him everything he even went as far to call my mom to talk to me because “he made a mistake getting our friend pregnant a week before our wedding” so I definitely get what she said at the beginning “ how somebody could be your best friend and companion and most trusted person in your life to your worst enemy who knows how to hurt because they were once your most trusted person” yeah that hit home because he saved me from a dark place after my God mom died from cancer, great grandma old age, my tia(moms baby sister) to cerosis of the liver, friend drug overdosed, and crush comited suicide I was drowning in darkness my depression was eating me alive and he was like a life preserver and then everyone said don’t fall in love with him be friends but no love and he kept trying to get with me so I finally caved in and it started out great made me feel beautiful after what my 1st ex did to me (personal and hard to talk about) but he became my world and then once I was completely in love and didn’t want to leave he took it to his advantage and hurt me emotionally he became a narcissist and he would flirt with other women right in front of me so I knew he was cheating I just was afraid to leave him until the last straw when he got a married friend of ours pregnant 1 week before our wedding and started being mean towards my baby brother his 8 I’m 23 I’ll be 24 on feb 26th I knew I had to leave him and I did with the help of a friend and my favorite cousin RIH beautiful soul I got away and started my life over he was so pissed with how calm I was as I left him he never understood how or why I could be calm at all during our whole relationship now his miserable so his been trying to hurt me visually since I don’t talk to him so I def understand Taylor at the beginning
For me the "look at how my tears ricochet" line represents how Scott and Scooter thought they were just hurting her, but actually it hurt them worse because now she's rerecording and what was once such a valuable purchase (her masters) is now essentially worthless because she's rerecording and adding to those rerecords and the Swifties and most people in the industry are very supportive and don't listen or play on the radio the songs that she does not own. Radio stations are replacing their catalog with (Taylor's Version) songs once they are released.
I was about to explain the track 5 thing and swifties did it right then in the discord chat soooo... nevermind 😂 I should've known, us swifties always come through!! I love my follow swifties 🥰😂
The other one you see besides Jack in the video is Aaron Dessner he is a member of the band The national this was film at his private recording studio on his property. One thing you will learn over time is her storytelling and song writing is what separates her from everybody else her songs are so detail sometimes you can see the pictures of the story she telling in your own head
People can think what they want about Taylor but everyone has to admit that re-recording her old albums is a rockstar move that not everyone can afford let alone pull off.
The ending in My Tears Ricochet here is actually quite different to the recorded one, and it has an added line in the end Both versions are incredible and honestly give me chills
This might be out of left field a bit, but I think you would love the live version of Don’t Blame Me. She has a live band playing with her, a guitar solo, and a choral arrangement with it. Her live performance on this is my absolute favorite live performance and it just showcases some of her power.
So Folklore and Evermore are her two more folksy sister albums and it is full of songs where Taylor puts herself in the shoes of different people in different situations and tells their stories. They are special because Taylor is very well known for writing about her experiences and her life so these are the two albums where she separates herself from the narration of the songs and gives voices to experiences she personally probably hasn’t gone through. I personally love them and they are far away from her more pop or country albums but so good in their own way
While Taylor is absolutely an empathetic person (and does a lot to support marginalized communities which she is not a part of), I think she may have also been welling up talking about TIMT because of the ED she struggled with years ago. In Miss Americana she speaks about how she had to stop looking at all the photos of herself from the press because she would easily get swept up thinking her body didn't look right and would have to talk herself down because she didn't want to go down that road again. If you've ever seen her during her 1989 era, you can see how much thinner she was than any anyother point of her career, and it's just so heartbreaking to think that one of the most gorgeous humans could think she needed to starve herself to be beautiful.
I knew I had to spend more time focusing on admitting to what songs are helping recover from abusive divorce I have 2 more than lovely daughters from. folklore and evermore we enjoyed pandemic on memory lane
I don’t know if you guys have done this yet and I missed it but you should do the full Long Pond Studios session version of the full Folklore album. She talks about each song prior to singing. It’s such a great watch. You can find it on Taylor Swift’s UA-cam channel or Disney plus (but that’s the clean version and the explicit version is better in my opinion). I’ll watch to see if you add it!
The 1989 tour in full has been on UA-cam since about 2 years after it came out and was only available on apple music. I went to this concert and have watched this video of the tour hundreds of times. TAYLOR and her whole team knows it's on there. It has not been taken down for a reason was my suspicion. That Taylor wanted it up for everyone or else it would of striked day 1. MAYBE TRY A REACTION TO THAT TOUR VIDEO ON YOUR UA-cam CHANNEL. I bet it don't get striked like miss American
one of my favourite lyrics is "and you can aim for my heart go for blood, but you would still miss me in your bones." something about that wordplay and the visual gets me. also, I love the lines, "they told me all my cages are mental, so I got wasted like all my potential" and "I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere". these type of lyrics are why I love her as an artist. she just gets it and yes makes people feel seen.
I think UA-cam recommended your channel to me for Taylor Swift, Which I enjoyed your thoughtful reaction to. I looked down your list and I didn’t see Pentatonix on your reaction list, would you give them a listen? They have a lot of covers, but if that isn’t your thing, they have quite a few original songs as well. They are masterful at putting together medley’s and this video of Taylor reminded me of their Making of Evergreen video. In addition, they have a large fan base that would come to your channel if you react to their videos.
All too well was a track 5. Nothing more to add. (And Jack Antonoff, the producer, also has a group, The Bleachers -so he plays a few instruments, sings, etc-. ;-)
Seriously Nathan, is your home actually haunted? Or were you guys just kidding in the previous video when you commented that? Is it someone hiding trying to get something in the room? Or is it a baby walking with something on their head? Or a dog running quickly in and out of the room? I swear I wasn't trying to look for that black figure again but this time it was feathery. Like what?? It's odd looking. Same area by the mic between 7:26 -7:30. Oh and great stuff guys 😉👍
Ummm. Do you know how reactions work? People don’t know what they’re reacting to. It’s a new world for them. I could ask 20 coworkers and I promise not any of them know Jack
Okay.. I did enjoy your reaction but the absolute disrespect for Jack left a bad taste.. this amazing artist had done so much and you "hoodie bros" are judging his outfit? Let's leave that petty shit in the past please. How about we recognise people for their talent instead of what they choose to wear 🙄
Everytime i hear "And when you can't sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies)" my heart broke a little, but I'm so proud of her for the re-recording. Great reaction, guys.
“And I still talk to you, when I’m screaming at the sky” gets me. She sings it so beautifully but you can feel the rage.
Same 😭
I love that lyric
She has always been an astonishingly talented songwriter, but Folklore and Evermore take her craft to another level. She wrote them both in quarantine, the perfect environment for such deep reflection and creativity. Love your heartfelt reaction!

They are special because Taylor is very well known for writing about her experiences and her life so these are the two albums where she separates herself from the narration of the songs and gives voices to experiences she personally probably hasn’t gone through.
I personally love them and they are far away from her more pop or country albums but so good in their own way
Loved Nathan's insights
Great reaction 👏🏼 👏🏼
Thank you!! 😁
Great reactions! I think you'd love to hear the 'Evermore' song!
"I'd been thinking about addic--" What an unfortunate yet funny place to stop the video. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
WE NEED EXILE REACTION
Love this reaction
❤️❤️🤘🤘❤️❤️🤘🤘
I knew I had to spend more time focusing on admitting to what songs are helping recover from abusive divorce I have 2 more than lovely daughters from. folklore and evermore we enjoyed pandemic on memory lane
I really like your reactions!!!! Happy Holidays btw
more taylor please 🙏🤍 i love ur reactions
He’s from New Jersey 🙄 It’s a vibe
The best track on Folklore is Epiphany… Not easy to listen to but it’s a work of stunning beauty…
Jack Antonoff and Aaron desner are such a great addition to Tay.
She is without doubt the best singer/songwriter of her generation…
These two songs just kill me
The 1989 tour in full has been on UA-cam since about 2 years after it came out and was only available on apple music. I bet it don't get striked like miss American
thank you
You're welcome
WELL DONE.
LMAO not the jack slander
love it😢❤
I just wanted you to know that this is me crying 😂 Ugh
You guys need to react to Exile by Taylor swift featuring bon iver. Since you liked these, you will love that song
one of my favourite lyrics is "and you can aim for my heart go for blood, but you would still miss me in your bones." something about that wordplay and the visual gets me. also, I love the lines, "they told me all my cages are mental, so I got wasted like all my potential" and "I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere". these type of lyrics are why I love her as an artist. she just gets it and yes makes people feel seen.
Have you guys reacted to any of the live performances from her show in Paris during the Lover era?
Don’t think so
MORE PLEASE 🥺
Taylor is wonderful. She has been an amazing person since the beggining and her art is beautiful!
oooo you guys need to react to “peace”
All too well was a track 5. Nothing more to add. (And Jack Antonoff, the producer, also has a group, The Bleachers -so he plays a few instruments, sings, etc-. ;-)
By the way, they even have a song with Bruce Springsteen (in The Bleachers album: Chinatown).
track 5 baby bros bday
twin flame rare empath
Seriously Nathan, is your home actually haunted? Or were you guys just kidding in the previous video when you commented that? Is it someone hiding trying to get something in the room? Or is it a baby walking with something on their head? Or a dog running quickly in and out of the room?
I swear I wasn't trying to look for that black figure again but this time it was feathery. Like what?? It's odd looking. Same area by the mic between 7:26 -7:30.
Oh and great stuff guys 😉👍
I wish. No, just my dog. She's pretty close to me. Her tail gets into a lot of my camera shots when I take her to shoot videos lol. ~ Nathan
@@WelpHereWeAreOnUA-cam Thank goodness cuz that looked hella creepy lol.
track 9 moms bdays 9th
Pls upload the all too well live performance reaction too..
Wish you reacted to the studio album first
how do you react to music and don’t know jack antonoff hahahah
Ummm. Do you know how reactions work? People don’t know what they’re reacting to. It’s a new world for them. I could ask 20 coworkers and I promise not any of them know Jack
@@WelpHereWeAreOnUA-cam i was just joking babe i liked the video and even made another comment about it! 💆🏽♀️
Okay.. I did enjoy your reaction but the absolute disrespect for Jack left a bad taste.. this amazing artist had done so much and you "hoodie bros" are judging his outfit? Let's leave that petty shit in the past please. How about we recognise people for their talent instead of what they choose to wear 🙄
Yawn. 🥱. We are so past this.
