Most people don’t get to know how amazing Taylor’s songs are because they think she only make breakup songs. I think she’s such a genius, her lyrics are unmatched, I respect her so much.

For real, I always hear that, and it makes me mad because you don't know her, to say that she only writes songs about her exs , and you haven't seen songs that have different meanings to judge what she is singing about.❤

Yeah, the perception of her that some of the media has portrayed has created such a vacuum of misinformation. Conflict for clicks. When people say things about Taylor that are so far off base, I can't help but laugh at their idiocy, but I also really feel the need to defend her.

The fascinating thing about Taylor is that she went straight from high school to being a famous country artist at 16, but somehow can write the most relatable content. There is so much humanity that you don’t always find in artists at her level. I wish the general public knew this side of more.

I got clean 1 year before folklore came out. I heard this song and just went into uncontrollable full body sobs. This was how I felt. She put it into words for me. I use the idea of “trying” interchangeably with “sober or clean”. I have an “at least I’m trying” tattoo because it has meant so much to me these past 3.5 years. For the question at the end of the video, there's so many songs that make me cry, but the top three are most likely Marjorie, Never Grow Up, and Champagne Problems.
Marjorie | Evermore, 2020, track 13 | Marjorie is a song about Taylor's grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who passed away on June 1st, 2003. She was a huge inspiration to Taylor, by inspiring to make and continue doing music, Marjorie was a well known Oprah singer, and I believe, wanted to become an actress, too.
Never Grow Up (Taylor's Version) | Speak Now, 2010 (Original) 2023 (Re-release) | This song is just so beautiful, because I have many new cousins, that I've spent so much time with, that they are just so special to me, and I love to play this song to them when I'm around them.
Champagne Problems | Evermore, 2020, track 7 | I personally haven't done much research about this song, yet, but this song is mainly about two people going to meet up on a 'date', one going to end things, while the other brought a ring with them. This song also has hints of Mental health and illnesses, and I believe, addiction problems hinted throughout the song, too.

Holy canoli all three of the guys were on the verge with this song, which is totally understandable because this is a difficult song.
I absolutely love the way Jake described it, with how she gets you right to the edge with one specific situation and you're so close to loosing it, then she just switches the scenario which makes your mind pause to reevaluate the situation and you aren't given enough time to fully sit in your "c-spot".

I love this song. I have an addictive personality and hearing her say ‘every day they’re struggling but nobody pats them on the back every day’ just leaves me sobbing on a bad day, not gonna lie. Today was a bad day, but I actually needed the cry, so it was good.
I just find it so RARE for anyone to acknowledge that there’s really no ‘recovered’-only recovering. Forever. And to recognize how hard that is.
(This is why I avoid anything at all habit forming. Over a decade without playing poker, and I still start shaking if I think about it too long. And weaning myself off painkillers after my hysterectomy was brutal, too.)
For me, having that RECOGNIZED… That’s what hits me. This song doesn’t hit my c-spot as hard as “Forever Winter”, though. That one makes me feel like she somehow reached into my chest to cradle my beating heart or something. I doubt it would make y’all cry, but I could be wrong, idk.
“Ronan” WOULD make you cry, though. Do not listen to anyone suggesting that song unless they’re dropping a thousand bucks or something. That song leaves me blubbering before the first verse even ends. If I ever NEED to cry? I just need to turn on that song. I’m physically incapable of listening to it without bawling. It has never ever happened.

Jack Antonoff is the producer talking to Taylor and playing the piano. He was a member of the band Fun, and he's lead singer of Bleachers. He has worked as a producer for many artists besides Taylor, including Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine, Lorde, Fifth Harmony and many more. I believe he has six Grammy Awards himself.

I feel like the piano in this song matches the song in that it almost gives you a sense of anxiety because the tempo never slows down and you expect it to drop at some point but it never does. Also...the pianist is Jack Antonoff. He is the main producer she works with. He has 3 albums he produced up for Album of the year at the Grammy's this year. And I think he is nominated as Producer of the year.

  • @tralala1865

Long pond hits completely different when you listen with her explanations. Super glad y’all did! This is me trying is definitely one of her more sad songs. Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve is another that hits hard but more so if you have any people/relationship related trauma. Bawled my eyes out to that one a few times I won’t lie. Marjorie is also one that has destroyed me, so would say that one if you’re close or were close with your grandparents or a passed loved one. Soon You’ll Get Better is absolutely heart wrenching and is about her mother.
But I mean.. if you want something upbeat I have to say it, there’s always New Romantics.

    • @tralala1865
      @tralala1865 10 місяців тому

I will say for would’ve could’ve should’ve; it’s more uptempo in beat so it helps to know context for the lyrics to hit home and make sense. Essentially it’s about her relationship with John Mayer when she was 19 and she was 32. She’s written a few songs about the relationship and they don’t exactly paint it in the best light and unfortunately he’s also come out and said he had issues with his ego and that led to problems in his relationships. Granted the whole age difference doesn’t help matters either. The song is her reflection on the impact that relationship has on her as an adult now.
Marjorie is about her late grandmother and includes vocal samples from her grandmother as well.
Soon you’ll get better is about her mothers fight with cancer.

Ha. Jack Antonoff is amazing. He also has spoken about his own issues with mental health including stuff like extreme germaphobia to the point where he's worried he won't be able to handle kids even though he wants them. So I'm guessing he really did get what Taylor was saying. I feel like Taylor also has spoken so many times about depression and self hate/body image issues. Like Tied Together with a Smile from Debut even when she was 16.

If you want a heartbreaking song that might make you cry, please react to "you're losing me"
Some fun/sad facts to consider about this one: the song is within the ideal bpm range to perform CPR. Also, the heartbeat in the background is her own and not just a sound effect
She wrote it at the end of 2021 but it got released in spring of 2023 as a CD only vault track of "Midnights" (it's on streaming platforms now)
Due to the timing many believe it's about her former relationship with Joe Alwyn ... The news of their split went public just a month prior to the song release
It always makes me think about my own relationships that didn't last, and how you sometimes leave emotionally or give up mentally before you actually find the strength to break-up and walk away for good
