- How to etching (dissolve calcite) from silver nuggets with muriatic and polishing in a rotary rock tumbler. Collected these rocks metal detecting at an abandoned silver Ontario silver mine. This video dedicated to Andrew, who is undergoing chemo. Stay strong my friend. Many good years still ahead of us.
*"PAULY SPOON"* Haha! I imagine its real satisfying to pull out the rocks from a tumbler. Nice looking pieces!
Your spoon is famous pauly 😂
Busted. LOL
Those turned out great 👍 nice looking silver !!!!
It was a fun video to make. My wife liked the nuggets, which was a bonus. ;-)
I bet there were a few old miners long ago who would have liked the acid bath, especially if they had pocketed a piece while working for someone else.
It's a boy and he eventually got a pet rock.
You been down that mine yet or didn't you find a bottle saying drink me!
Good idea in theory, as you know it's all down to how that silver is laying in the rock, not so pretty this time but still very good specimens for someone.
Those heavily loaded rocks need slicing really, raw silver is not the most attractive thing for anyone's collection but it can look really fake if polished, horses for courses I suppose, whatever floats your boat.
Looking forward to the next video.
You are so right. An untouched black and grey rock only looks like a black and grey rock.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Very good video. Always interesting to see what you are doing next. Thanks.
That's it..if Canada has rocks having babies..I'm moving north lol...great video
Without another explanation, I would have suggested aliens. LOL
As always another great video. I love the way these turned out. The silver pieces are so extreme in their before and afters. Thanks for sharing. Heading out soon for my big adventure. Going all the way across ok so country. I'm so excited.
Have an excellent adventure and stay safe. It is a great time of year to travel.
@@meMiner thanks friend. I'm looking forward to it. I may even do some short videos. Lol
For sure take some video. Gina's Most Excellent Adventure or Roadtrip 2019 or ??
@@meMiner Bill and Ted style A? Will do. Thanks
Love these video's, I really need to get a rock tumbler.
Tumblers are fun. Once you get one, you will look for things to polish. ;-)
Great video meMiner.
Dude! Nice! I really think they came out looking great.
And you have some very good plunkers Dude!
As always, I hope you have a great day, and I love your music too.
I love the look of a nugget. Makes me want to go back and find more. ;-)
@@meMiner hey, I don't blame you a bit, that's some awesome pieces of silver, what a place to hunt for those huge Nuggets. Is that the same place you crashed your drone?
Enjoyed the episode ✌
Thanks much!
That's quite the operation but the results are great. Nice video !! Save all those little pickers for the next silver bar you cast !!
Cool they had a baby cute they turned out great thanks for showing this be safe
Safe? Wait for the next video. You will laugh.
Very nice specimens. The acid sure cleans them up nicely, showing the Silver..
It is a cute "trick".
I love your silver goodness man! So good! Haha! They made a baby 🤣
Also I hope it’s okay but I just made a video on tumbling and mentioned your tutorials and shared a link because I just had to give credit where credit is due. You have taught me all I know about tumbling. Just because of the time and effort you put into your videos. I really want to thank you man.
Rookie Rockhounding
Creep.😂😂😂😂😂
I saw your video pop up in my recommendations. I intend on watching it.
meMiner
Oh god, 🤣😂🤣 no no I seriously didn’t mean to sound like a creep or needing you to watch, haha! More was just sayin thanks... and I hope that was okay. 😫
Nice looking Silver.
thanks
Hello,Excellent
Thanks for your awnser very kind of.you.
Very nice! I use TSP on lots of things, never thought to try it on silver. 👍
I bumped into the fellow and his wife who recommended TSP. They were hunting bottles and I was looking for silver. We had a great chat.
Sweet outcome.
Thanks jason
Gracias sr. Miner le agradezco su contestacion soy ing. Minas

Nice, G minor ,always interesting thanks
thanks much
MAN! Those are sooooo pretty!!!! gosh, I love the way that silver looks, it's so much prettier than gold. I say that all the time, but I mean it lol.
Thanks so much!!
Beauties, as always! Lol I got a couple cool videos coming by morning. I'm so proud of myself hahaha My new camera is great too, day and night over my old one. It's crazy what 60fos and electronic image stabilization can do when the camera is strapped to your head. It makes me look better than I am hahahaha
I will watch your videos tonight. ;-)
I wish i could just message you this. Save your sandpaper if you do any handpolishing man. I got a rubbing stone and shortened my first stage down to VERY quick with my calcite crystals, using your method mostly with the same hand pressure and submerged or with running water. Thanks again for all your videos! It's taught me so much and given tonnes of hope to someone who wasn't sure if there was much to find in Ontario. Happy hunting buddy! 😁
A stone is a really good idea! I now have a flat lap and a vibrating flat lap, so my sandpaper days are probably over. ;-)
@@meMiner I'd like to see how they work when you find the time. P.s. where did you get your uv light? The one with multiple wavelengths you were under the BBQ cover with?
@@jeffclarkofclarklesparkle3103 Mine was made by Way Too Cool in the USA. It is 9 Watt. I tried a different brand recently which was higher power and liked it better.
@@meMiner lmao...so 2 hours into polishing i realized i needed more sandpaper for the rubbing block because the calcite smoothed it to glass almost 😂😂😂
@@meMiner omg! Dude! Forget everything i said and replace it with this! A piece of long sandstone + a tiny bit of water to make a mud. I've only done a tiny bit so far but im guessing it takes it down to about 600 grit, and FAST. As much speed and pressure you want providing a big chip doesn't come loose. Ok ill shuddup for now haha! (SO 😁)
Looks good! Keep all those little bits! I finally got a propane melting furnace and could melt all the little bits down into a bar!
All yours for when you want them.
@@meMiner sounds good! I could melt any little bits down for you and make a video to post on the channel?
That would be perfect
@@meMiner sent yah an email
I'm from Ohio, I found alot of similar type metal/ rocks, really polished up on the shores in certain areas only on lake Erie, I always thought they were silver because of the #'s and tone put off by my metal detector. Thanks for sharing, new sub here.👍
One thing about the edges of Lake Erie and Ontario is there are bondfires where people burn their old beer cans and the melted result sounds really good on a detector.
I found a couple strange rocks/minerals a few weeks ago. One was black with a high specific gravity. Once cleaned, it looks like silver. No magnetic quality. Small gold streak on top. Are there any simple field tests that you know of to test it at home?
Streak test (on a white porcelain plate). Acid test (you can buy the acids at a jeweller). Melt (silver and platinum have a high melt point whereas tin and lead don't). Or the easy route is find somewhere who have an XRF and have them tell you. If it was a vein on your own claim, then you would send for fire assay.
The acid videos are fun. I used acid once to remove the matrix from a chain coral. Then I was gently holding it to take it to show my wife and dropped it on the kitchen floor. It broke into tiny pieces. I’m going to try again soon.
There is a way to harden rocks so they are not so fragile. I should learn more about it. Too bad you dropped your rock. Been there...
Nice
Me, what do you remove the rocks from the acid bath with?
I use a slotted plastic spoon from the dollar store. A really bad idea to use fingers.
The rocks *_definitely_* had a baby...
LOL
Meminer what kind of metal detector do you use I’m looking for one under $300
I have a few detectors. None were under $300 new or used. ;-)
I’m thinking of asking for one for Christmas this year since I’ll be going to wawa next summer
Never worry about ruining them. Should you do, bottle up the solution, send it to me and I'll extract the silver from solution. I'll let you pick what you want from my collection for trade. I'm not sure if anything I have is worth it though. LOL. I do actually have some cool stuff which I will hopefully have uploaded on video soon.
I have nearly every type of igneous rock there is, and if I don't have it, I can get it since I live in Washington State.
❤❤❤❤
Do you have multiple tumblers or just a ton of patience?
I have a few tumblers of different sizes. I usually only do one tumble at a time. I would drive my wife nuts if I have all of the going at the same time.
Sweet
a question...what you think a metal detector ..garett ace 250 ????
Garett makes good detectors. I don't own any, but know people that do. The Ace 250 is pretty good and will certainly find stuff, but if you can afford to upgrade to a better model, you won't regret that decision either.
c mon 1 eret question de buget aussi.....
@@jimfamille7025 Sometimes, there are good deals on used detectors, as long as it is from a reliable source. You don't want to buy a fake or something with a problem. When I am shopping for a detector, i keep my eye on the online forums, such as the classified on treasurenet.com I have gotten good machines at about half the price of new and with extras such as additional coils. I'd rather have a used quality detector than a new cheap one.
ok thank.... i see all options and take
a nessary time for my best aquision....thank a lot ...
.......used one today bud...finds silver nuggets a treat......
Nice result sir👍 Awesome silver - rocks👌
- Btw, which gas is HCl and calcite?
HCL is muriatic acid. Calcite is the white rock in this video. HCL dissolves calcite. Hope that answered your question.
@@meMiner Thank you for the answer.👌
MeMiner looks great nice work now it's Pat yourself on your back time cause my arms won't reach!!!; )
pat, pat. thanks
Have you tried adding hydrogen peroxide to the HCL. You could probably dissolve the base metals also leaving mostly silver.
I tried a few times and didn't notice much change with the rocks I tested
nice movie, tell me what acid u use
I usually use diluted (4:1) muriatic or white vinegar.
What do you do with the silver, sell it or keep,😎
I do this for fun, not selling
Thank you for you video. I was talking to my Auntie about a black sand on a creek on. My Uncle place. He died of cancer anyway. My Auntie told me of an old silver, gold mine near the creek. So if I get time I will check the old silver mine. Your video was very helpful Thank you. (The silver mine was active in 1938)
Where’s my doggy?
Nice silver!
Daisy was watching, with disinterest. LOL
I would really love to find a few bits like that just to play with. A bucket list item, I just have gold on my claim...😔
just? LOL
a little thinking for you friend...my father cross a same trail...chemio ...radio.....i think so are safe ...with a news dicoverys .... the little bastard thing have a lot minus chance in a 90'''years ......... nice nuggets ....my friend.... i have no excursion this season at this date .....the river is lot colding
Our water is starting to warm up now. I look forward to getting wet. I am thinking a lot about my firend. He is 10 years younger than me.
A project where one would soak the rocks in acid for a longer period of time seems like it would be fun ... results would be interesting
It is always difficult to know when to stop. You can leave it in until all the calcite and other affected rock is completely removed. Sometimes that looks great. Other times, you end up with a bunch of pieces. All I wanted to do here was expose a bit more and then put a shine on it.
are you in ontario?
Yes
@@meMiner any good spots in kearny near bay lake? any good hound spots? im new
I like your video.thanks for sharing..we will uphold you in prayer..get well soon.In Jesus name.Amen
I appreciate that
I guess it's just me- I think these look better b4 meddling?!
You could be right. Leaving the rock natural is sometimes best.
Seems like one of them crapped themselves in the tumblr.
Maybe that was it. LOL
steel wool works in 10 min or less to a miorror finish
M.miner mybe some % of gold containing in those silver nugets are very interest.when
You put in muriatic acid y.see
Some copper very.small.traces.
Only a few of the mines in the area had gold. Trace copper was more common.
thats a silver nugget?.. looks the same..
Hi Greig, I send messege for you, can you open it ? And I found your messenger, but, I haven't facebook, so propably you did not get my messege ( if no please install messenger on your mobile phone)... Tommorow I plan to bought diamond saw for stones. I must know somethink to not to cut my fingers ?
The diamond blades are fairly safe. Even so, I wouldn't intentionally stick my hand in one. Just don't buy a blade with teeth as they will take a finger off.
@@meMiner That's great information. My tubled stones have some cracks inside. It's was visable only before course grit tumbling. With this saw I can cut the cracked place and haves beautifull tubled stones. Please take look on your messenger, I can send to you photos of my stones ;)
I liked.the real miner.you are older liked me but.a good one
I almost.work on crystals sometimes in native.copper..
We have.in Costa Rica on Peninsula Osa.in.Rio Tigre a
Good ones gold nugets.
Just what ru doing to the poor silver? Shouldnt u be putting them in a smelt refining it and making em into silver bars man??
