Unfortunately a lot of the time, the vehicles we repo, aren’t because of hard times, but more so because of bad decisions.

Im 39 years old now and 1 thing i learned from my early 20s is that ALWAYS COMMUNICATE with the banks when you fall behind. Send something i dont care if all you have is $100. But people go 6 months without paying dime and then try to talk to the bank once the repo truck pulls up.
I agree communication helps. My truck got repoed about 11 years ago. My financing was through Ford motor credit. They called on a Friday afternoon, and left a message to call back. I never called back so they came early Monday morning before sunrise, and took the truck. Then they tow almost an hour away, so you end up paying late fees, tow fees, storage fees, and a major inconvenience to your life. A five minute phone call could have avoided all of it.

So what happens to the down payment if someone can't pay ? Do the Finance Company deduct the month you had the car for and pay back what is left of the down payment ?

I had a car repo’d once when I was in my 30’s. I actually called the bank, told them to take it and left it outside the garage. It was gone the next day. Since then, I told myself that the next time I financed a car, that I would only do so if I could afford the monthly payments even if something happened with my job. I financed another in my 40’s and paid it off in 4 years. I always tell our kids to be responsible first and that their cars are their money makers, so do their best to keep up with payments if they ever decide to finance because if not, it’ll be gone in a heartbeat 🤙🏽

I don't know why some people don't cut their coats according to their sizes. Why not buy something you can afford. Simply because people are doing it so i have to do it too whiles you know perfectly right from your heart that you can never finish paying up but still goes for it. People should be responsible to their acts. Buy the car your income can accept and stop disgracing your selfs having the latest car is not an obligation.
I watched my youngest sons car get towed, it was funny, because I got up at five and making coffee, when they got it , laughed because he was terrible about money now he’s a very successful man he makes great money even helps his mom, of course I pay him back even though he tells me not. I’m proud of him, he has a boy he’s raised into an adult. Both are my pride and joy.

Probably just paid enough to get it off the lot then never pay another payment on it. People like that ruin it for the good people who do pay and won't run . You can Hide, but I would only recommend hiding a vehicle if you are 100% sure you have a way to pay for it in the very near future. Years ago i had some hard times, and couldnt make my RV payment. I Hid it in a garage that was totally unrelated from myself. Funny part is the garage was a block from the towing companys office! I had a cash coming in, in just 2 months, bank refused to wait....so i had to do this. The repo guy tried all my address's and family, to no success. I didnt tell a soul where the RV was. When the cash came in i paid the vehicle off in full (60K), and called the repo guy that had tried so hard to find the RV. When i told him it was a block from his office the whole time he laughed, and i offered to take him out to the steakhouse on me for his troubles. He accepted, and we are still friends to this day. Remember people, be kind, this is these guys livelyhood.

U n i know that but most people resolve to violence because they're getting their car repossessed, so do that if i end up hurting the tow driver or killing him i might as well throw the towel because you will end up in jail sooner or later n u still end up.on the losing end so why give the repoman grief over your mistakes buying something u can't afford on payments, remember they are just doing their job ,they have a family too, just hand over the keys n live another day. I work for a major forwarder as an investigator, these debtors try all sortsa tactics to avoid the inevitable. With licence plate readers if we don't get it at an address we'll most definitely repo it while your inside the mall or Walmart. Also some lenders have the ability to disable the vehicle remotely alongside with the GPS location.

The towing company I dispatched for had a Dodge Dully pickup with a sneaker on it worked great.
Glad you had a fairly uneventful tow. You had to do a little bit of Hardy Boys to find it, but you were successful.
I haven't had a car payment since 1996. Once was enough! Now, if my car is on a flatbed, more than likely it's via AAA. lol

This still makes me wonder about some people. ANYTHING that you buy with finance is not yours, until the last payment is made.
I used to work for a buy here pay here dealership. I love how they would dodge, us, disconnect on us, curse at us, and when I'd track the car and send my repo guy out THEN they wanted to talk, THEN they were polite, THEN they wanted to talk about making a deal to come up to date...I'd laugh and say see YOU can come see ME at my counter tomorrow and hang up

With a repo that went down like that, I'd have pulled the battery and/or the fuel pump relay, on top of boxing it in with other vehicles so they couldn't just come take it back in the middle of the night, because they kinda seem like the type that would try lol. Nice job

Probably the easiest way would be to reach underneath and unplug the crank sensor.

The only way a debt truly goes away, is paying it.
No, if you lose your job go get another one! You have transportation for goodness sake. You also have more time than you think before they come pick up the car. You don't just surrender the car so easily.
Based on the temp plate running out in Jul 23, I'm guessing there weren't many payments at all made on that car.
It was as if they had no intention of paying for that vehicle at all. Just wanted to have a Honda. You know, so they can tell people they have one. How they think others will see how they look in it.

Just fyi for those people who does not pay their car note: the bank does not want to repo your vehicle; that is the last thing they want to do. They will make more money from your current/past due loan if you work with them. Repo is the las resort for them after you missing 3+ months without paying a dime and not answering their call.

If there are issues or errors on the promissory note, u can get out of repos & foreclosures. It’s rare but happens. And banks never want u to know that. I worked at a law firm that processed foreclosures & bankruptcies. Also it is ultimately up to the judge , they can side w the defendant. The best thing to do is don’t buy cars ucan’t afford tho. But some ppl do actually get sick and can’t work & it causes them to lose everything. That could happen to any of us really, but I pray it never does 🙏 those were always the ppl I felt really bad for and felt like helping, even tho I never could 😔

I tell folks all the time when I used to work in collections. As long as you're calling us and making some type of effort on resolving this issue we will work with you. Not calling us and not responding to collection calls and the final letter will lead you to us getting our asset back. I can't say taht for all finance companies but for credit unions it's a whole lot better.
How do you get your car repoed still with a temporary tag on it? Hard times can happen to anybody, but at some point, you've got to get your shit together.
If you don't make your first payment, the dealer doesn't give you the plates! Then they come get it!
I'm this particular case of songs like she either cosigned for her daughter or her daughter is a minor and was supposed to make the payments. And no one made the payments.

It's just so amazing how far a debtor will go to try to keep something that is not theirs, up to and including having law enforcement come out to the property only the debtor still doesn't understand that they should have been making their payments and they didn't read the fine print on the lienholder contract stating that the lienholder can enter a private property to recover their assets, the asset is not legally the debtors until the final payment has been made and the lienholder has made the title cleared of the loan, it's not that hard to understand, the debtor has a liened title, which means they do not own the asset, I have seen video of repo drivers being assaulted, having firearms pointed at them, debtors destroying the assets and/or the repossession company vehicle, the debtor just doesn't get the idea that the asset is not theirs until the asset is paid off
This may be true in your state, but in my state, the repo can occur on a public roadway or public lot, or in plain view on debtors property with no expectation pf privacy.
The moment it’s behind a locked gate or fence, or in a locked garage, the repo company has to sign an affidavit and the lender obtains a replevin.
The replevin order can be enforced by the court via a county sheriff in my state.
Play stupid games, pay attorney fees. Lose the property anyway.
Takes longer, but the sheriff is there with a court order instead of just the repo company with a “repo order.”
Repo man still gets the work tho - I think half the replevin orders are because the car was in the garage. But case law in my state places that car at risk and a judge can order replevin.

I'm not fond of dramatic repos. Best one I had, it got towed to a shop for no-start on Friday. I get called on Monday evening to pick it up. Get there, it's in the garage. Shop is working on it, and they're working on figuring out why it won't start. I walk in, tell them I have a phone call for them. They talk to the bailiff, who explains everything, they'll even pay the shop for the labor, just put it back together so I can haul it out. They do.
Why didn't it start? It had a remote immobilizer installed, and they shut the car down remotely. Wouldn't let power go to the starter.
We have a contract that’s like that. Those generally also have keys, so I just park down the street, enable the starter again and drive it away.
They have too pay the shop as far as the law is concerned
My golden rule to buying a car if I can’t afford the payments with a part time job I don’t buy it😂

That's why I pay cash for my vehicles cash.
People always say that can't save up enough to buy a new or nice used vehicle for cash yet they can pay interest on a loan to buy one.
I just figure out what kind of vehicle I want divide the amount it's going to cost into 36 or 48 months and put that in a dedicated savings account. Not only do I get the interest from the accrued amount but if something comes up I just don't pay myself that month. Can't very well do that with a finance company

Not only is it cheaper to pay cash than financing it, you also own the vehicle when you buy it cash. When you finance it, you only own the debt not the vehicle.

Either she bought the car awhile ago and has been making payments, or if she just bought a 2017 Honda and started making payments; they are a witch to make when you start taking out car, insurance, gas, food, rent, utilities out of your paycheck. You know that they are not master criminals whose big score in life was getting over by not making payments on the car. The guy on the news who test drove a BMW and drove it to the bank and robbed it and then tried to use the money to buy the BMW is someone who is a master criminal. She just probably got behind on her payments.

I'm all for folks getting stuff they are not paying for taken from them. But. If that white van? parked across the driveway blocking in those other cars is your buddys, where I am, that is illegal, and you parking in their driveway in front of the garage "until you get the car" is illegal if they have not invited you, or tell you to leave.
That said, I am glad she got the car taken for non payment. I pay my bills on time to keep my stuff, no reason she should keep hers without paying.
