- Exactly what is a standard hydrangea? You may have heard this term before, and you may have also seen this type of plant at your local garden center. Here we explain exactly what a standard hydrangea is, and how they can be the perfect focal point in your landscape.
Love the hydrangea trees! They are more expensive. I’m not sure I could keep it trimmed to shape. Please do a video showing trim in the spring. Thank you for sharing!
It is quite simple, wait until the plant leafs out, then stand back and see what branches you want to remove to retain the shape. Do not prune any branches that you want to see blooms on though, the buds are set and ready to go comes spring, only prune those in the fall or early winter.
Just purchased a Pinky Winky Hydrangea tree and had not planted yet. Happened upon this video so perfect timing. Thank You
Great job! I just picked up one of these. Amazing!
A trimming video would be great. I have this one too and I have 4 branches growing upwards and lots of branches so long that they almost go to the ground.
Your videos are always so helpful you inspire me keep up the good work
Thank you! Will do!
i have a limelight hydrangea standard and i have it smack dab in the center of my garden, near the entrance to my house. my neighbors walk around and take photos of it when its in full bloom. it is a MUST have if you want an element of drama
Mine too, it's over 10ft.. gorgeous.
This is the best tree I have ever seen
It is not available in Egypt, but is it possible to buy its seeds?
Thank you for asking, but our plants are not grown from seeds. Appreciate your interest!
I love watching your channel! I have a postage stamp property in Northeastern Ohio. I’m planting my 2 vanilla strawberry panicle hydrangeas today. My front yard faces West and I have zero side yard. I’m planting one in the front and another in my backyard. I should have only purchased one $$$ but I liked them so much I just had to figure out a way to fit in another. I’m sure the backyard spot will be great but I’m a little worried about the front. Wish me luck 🍀
Well, wouldn’t you know it, we hit clay not even 2ft in the backyard. I’ve added about 3 yards of soil along that 20’ border in June. Guess I need an excavator and 20 yards more 😂
On our website we offer an advanced search tool that you can use to find plants that will grow in clay soil, add a check to the BOG PLANT under the water category, this is a plant that can sit in wet conditions which is what clay soil creates. I bought a lime light hydrangea paniculata. I wanted to ask what is the best fertilizer to use for it? Thank you
Omg I want to learn how to make this tree look like this!
Thank you!
so my hydrangea tree grew a tier. one side died and a branch shot up and grey so it looks like a y. I have not pruned that arm off for worry it would look awful or die. what do you recommend to make it less asymetrical?
Finally in 2022 I'm looking for info on the hydragena standard. I remember this video from years ago and never really thought I'd have one of my own!!
We also have a tutorial on how to grow one, and we sell them in our online store as well. Let us know if you want information on either option and thanks for watching.
@@ProvenWinnersUA-cam oh now I'm even more excited!! I'm headed there now to check it out!
@@ProvenWinnersUA-cam yes I would love information on both
@@nindyhunt Here is a link to these mature plants in our online store, www.provenwinners.com/catalog/plants/shrubs/tree-form-hydrangea
And if you want to grow one yourself here's how! beauty.provenwinners.com/gardeners-idea-book/grow-hydrangea-tree/
Beautiful! I have been thinking of purchasing one online. Any websites any one suggests?
It would be best to buy locally since these would be very hard to ship and you will want to see the plant prior to purchasing. Landscaping companies in addition to garden centers might have one, call around and ask if possible.
I just planted a 2 quick-fire hydrangea 1 tree and 1 shrub 😍
Considering the tree form can have a canopy reaching 7 to 8 feet wide isn't that too close to the house?
You can have this in the middle of your garden too, just trim as needed to fit the space you have to use for this project.
Does Aluminum Sulphate help when planting ?
Is this safe to plant near the house? does it have deep seeking roots?
Hi Laura!
I just bought a new house. I want "Quickfire" hydrangea standards.
My house is facing front to the south and back to the north.
There will be a large pie shaped corner flowerbed next to the house on the NW corner. If that makes sense. It looks a lot like the same area you are working on in this video. And is the NE corner near the house just as good?
I just want to verify the proper position before I spend the money and plant.
Anybody reading this is welcome to answer my question here...thanks.
Washington state zone 6.
I was wondering how you situated your quickfire? I just bought a qf standard and am wondering where I should plant it. Front of my house faces North, two big oaks - full shade. I'm thinking the West side, with plenty of water. Curious to see what you did. Thanks!
@@mickyunit sorry to say I haven't been able to get them yet. So can't answer your question.
What did you mulch in?
It is hard to understand your question, mulch was simply added to the top of the soil when planting was completed. Thanks for watching.
I have a rose tree, now I see this. Me want!
Love it😚
I have a Quickfire Tree., and a Pinky Winky shrub.
good
have one and just love it so many people walking by asking what it is
who comes up with such ridiculous pre-k names?
