@@notalive5479 that's a perfectly valid way of looking at it, and it makes sense if you take it from that perspective yes. Could they just change it so the moves are weaker but more spammable and therefore wouldn't need a resource? Maybe, but at least to me the resources management aspect provides a different type of gameplay which is always good. Passive Abilities are honestly really interesting. Spanning back to Smash 64 with Tether Grabs and Jigglypuff's shield, it has expanded with each game. Despite the sheer array of these abilities, there's still a ton of fighters that don't have any and can be more easily picked up. Even Pichu, despite having the only passive that is purely detrimental, he's very viable and also a fun character. Aura provides an interesting risk-reward mechanic where sandbagging can be a legitimate option, but not one that's strictly in his favour. Lucario has to choose whether to take a blow and be easier to kill in exchange for power or stay safe without the power increase. Steve can still do nasty stuff with his Mining and Crafting abilities. Bowser and K. Rool can still escape what would be dangerous combos with armour. Marth's tipper can take stocks in a nanosecond if used correctly while Roy's own tipper is easy to land as long as you can get into your opponent's face. The shotos and Terry still suffer from mediocre recoveries despite their strengths and aren't exactly Sonic in terms of speed. Float opens up many possibilities but proves to be a very hard mechanic to master and one that can't save your rear every time. All of these mechanics and more are quite balanced and make Smash Ultimate such a unique and fun fighting game. Whether your mechanic makes you tough as nails, agile as a butterfly or as weak as a baby egg, your skill is what makes or breaks a match. Great job on the video lad. What's your favourite passive mechanic \ ability?
I personally wouldn't count tether grab as a passive, since it's specific to a single attack. But Jigglypuff shield does count, along with super armour, which is also one of the stronger passives outright and certainly deserves a far larger mention here.
Even in SSB64, five characters had some kind of passive: Donkey Kong: can move while grabbing an opponent Link: his shield (not the shield bubble, his actual physical shield from Zelda games) gives him a smaller hurtbox for projectiles than for other attacks Yoshi: unique egg shield that can't be shield-poked Kirby: copy abilities Jigglypuff: shield pop
thats because they are both not bad... like at all Hero has slow ass arials and that does him in. Mana is gained by hitting people with normal moves in anyway shape or form. if you are out, one hit can give you enough mana to recover
or just play him like a legitimate jrpg protagonist save mana for when you need it hero is literally the strongest swordsman in the game (minus sephiroth)

I LOVE Belly Armor, I can't believe how many times that passive has cheesed me out of otherwise hopeless situations!!
@@Glyphmoney well that's ironic
I personally wouldn't count tether grab as a passive, since it's specific to a single attack. But Jigglypuff shield does count, along with super armour, which is also one of the stronger passives outright and certainly deserves a far larger mention here.
Even in SSB64, five characters had some kind of passive:
Donkey Kong: can move while grabbing an opponent
Link: his shield (not the shield bubble, his actual physical shield from Zelda games) gives him a smaller hurtbox for projectiles than for other attacks
Yoshi: unique egg shield that can't be shield-poked
Kirby: copy abilities
Jigglypuff: shield pop
@@alexpotts6520 Kirby's copy ability is not a passive ability, its more like a gimmick move
You know even tho hero's gimmick and Steve's are both in worst, they are (in my opinion) by far the most fun to use.
thats because they are both not bad... like at all
Hero has slow ass arials and that does him in. Mana is gained by hitting people with normal moves in anyway shape or form. if you are out, one hit can give you enough mana to recover
or just play him like a legitimate jrpg protagonist save mana for when you need it hero is literally the strongest swordsman in the game (minus sephiroth)
Ah yes, camping ledge and farming for iron every 15 seconds because all my good moves and even tilts consume a meter. Most fun mechanic by far
little did we know that Steve would wind up being mad good for no reason
People take the game to seriously sometimes I think. Steve is awesome and is translated excellently from his home series. People whine about it but it’s nowhere near as annoying as smash4 Bayo or Brawl Meta Knight
I can’t see how Steve, the best character in the game, enough to be widely banned, could be considered to have the second worst gimmick in the game.
Edit, this video is 2 years old apparently and that part just didn’t age well.
Can we talk about how unbelievably good this editing is like damn
"Pichu's kill power isn't high enough to match this cost"
Ha! Ha ha! Aaahh...
*Wait you're serious*
Ftilt go brrr
Not gonna like cause 69
Also Pichu? BUSTED.
Steve kind of aged like milk in the video
I’d argue that the auto-turn for Ryu/Ken/Terry gimps their back air, especially in edgeguarding. It’s not a 100% positive gimmick.
sure it’s not 100% positive but using back air isn’t even completely needed in their playstyle
"a recovery even Little Mac can look down on"
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF
Laughs in Zoom
@@ink3487 you wouldn't have enough mana to use zoom
@@hunteranderson4085 If I recall correctly, doesn't Zoom only cost 8 MP?
@@jennytulls6369 but when you don't have enough MP to use your recovery moves, you don't have 8 mp
@@hunteranderson4085 I mean, Kaswoosh uses quite a bit more, but I feel like depending on distance, Woosh and Swoosh still won't make it back to stage, so we can say you don't have enough MP to recover, but still have enough to use the last ditch effort known as Zoom
Which gimmick would you like?
Kazuya: "Yes"
That thumbnail is AMAZING. You somehow made Steve look sad in the thumbnail, but you used no tears or anything. Just shape and texture, and the sheer composition of that is amazing! I tip my hat to you.
2 years later looking back on steve: "Huh, guess it wasn't that bad"
This editing is incredible why is this channel so underrated

It got recommended to me! Thanks cause the video was great!

It actually worked
Wow

Luigi: "Oh, you are approaching me? Instead of running away, you're coming towards me?"
Bowser: "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer."
Luigi: "Oh ho ho, then-a approach all you a-like!"
This quality content is what myself and many others need nowadays with the community's state and quarantine. Thank you so much Glyphmoney. ❤️
Oml this video is absolutely amazing. Good work!
The amount of creativity, flair, beauty and detail I repeatedly see being put into scenes that last just 10 seconds is completely astonishing. Bravo! This was clearly something you put an extraordinary amount of care into. And I love it.
I'm still convinced that pichu is holding a life orb, boosting their power to surpass pikachu, in exchange of hurting themself when they attack.
YOOOO MOM I'M FAMOUS I'M IN 12:12!!!!
Jokes aside... holy shit man, I love everything about this video. You put a shit ton of effort and it shows. I was legitimately blown away by this video, and I'm glad I could be a part of it even if it wasn't for more than 5 seconds. Well done dude!
“Steve is fighting an uphill battle” he said “his passives are big nerfs to his game” he said
This explanation of aura also explains why i main lucario. They might be an average or below average character but the aura mechanic is just so nice to use. Lucario is a realy fun character and they fit my playstyle realy well
"The shotos... And Terry"
Fireball, dp and kick attack, isn't Terry a shoto too?
You'd think right? I originally had him listed as one too, but the Ken/Ryu discord was VERY adamant that he is not lol!
@@Glyphmoney a shoto is an archetype, this applys in multiple facets. Because of its archetypal nature the term shoto must be applied in the context of the game. This is why, by definition of the term, mario is a "shoto" within the context of smash
@@lucashunter-walsh1270 Somewhere, a Ken player just had a cold chill run down their spine when you typed 'Mario is a shoto'.
Jokes aside, I def can see what you're saying there. He -does- meet a lot of the criteria, though frankly it's a term I'm not particularly confident in my use. All I know is that the Ken/Ryu/Terry players I spoke to all were very clear that only Ryu/Ken fell under that category, you'd be best served reaching out to that discord channel for a better explanation!
@@Glyphmoney i recommend the video "Character Archetypes in Fighting Games" by Eddventures, it will go more in-depth on the term and its description. But the main point is that a shoto id a very general character and mario is within its definitions as they are applied to smash. The discord is of course allowed to disagree but it comes more from a desire to remain distinct and different than an understanding of the term, as terry is undoubtedly a shoto within the king of fighters game context.
@@lucashunter-walsh1270 Awesome, I'll check that out and thanks for sharing!!
So glad you made this. I was thinking about going over all the character gimmicks in my head for weeks but never had the time. Lol
This is some of the best smash content i've seen in a good long while.
Hi
The use of the different camera angles is incredibly under appreciated this is some really good stuff!
If you enjoy making quality content like this, please keep going. Smash videos like this is what the community needs. Amazing video, keep it up.
your editing skills are something that even channels with millions of subs don't have. Hope you get the public that you deserve
Watching your description of Best Gimmick No. 3 was such a joy to watch. You really reinforced the practical uses of command specials, which adds to the satisfaction of pulling them off.
I don't know if this counts, but a bad one is how Link's sword can shoot projectiles, but only at 0.0%
It's true to his game
You can get a lot of utility from it with bomb
Steve's mining and crafting might be bad but he can place blocks and it can do a variety of things like an instant shield break and an almost inescapable ledge trap
your videos have so much effort put into them, you're incredibly informative, the way you cover subjects is traditional yet unique at the same time, your voice and the way you talk is amazing, and you treat every single character FAIRLY. even though your channel doesnt have a lot on it right now its still amazing. i subbed earlier today and i hope you grow more in the future :D the world needs more people like you
Really appreciate the kind words, gunna keep on that grind!!
Now imagine if Pichu gained Aura. Suddenly Pichu just gained a Cloud Limit Charge on nearly every single move that doesn't go away until he's dead.
I am AMAZED by the quality of editing here, keep up the great work, I hope you'll be rewarded soon
Your transitions visually and in your script were all phenomenal, I really appreciated that
These transitions are so smooth. Great video!
Quality content and I loved FFR7's due recompense music addition :) favorite track from FF7R
This video is amazing. From the Editing, explanations, just a masterpiece.
Kinda late but this video is put together extremely well. I’m an avid smasher and I honestly did not feel like clicking away like I do with so many other videos of people regurgitating information I already know. Combined of well articulated informative explaining and subtle cool edits really go far in grabbing someone’s attention. And for that I just wanna say thanks for the spectacular video hope to see more quality videos like this in the future cuz I know videos like these will motivate me to do the same! *subscriber earned*
Editing on this vid is amazing
Superb presentation and editing, keep up the good work with these because wow excellent job!
The quality of this video is going trough the roof well done !
the video production on this is fantastic! your content is severely underrated :)
This turned out amazing, G$! You and cubed are a deadly duo 💖 Thanks for having me, Aura is BUSTED, and I'm glad you liked the song 😜✨
Its SUCH a banger!!!
What
Robin's weapons recover so quickly that it's not a real problem. Her real problem is her speed...
It shocked me when I saw this wasn’t popular. Keep up the good videos!
Found this guy today and he is already my favorite smash channel. The quality is *mwah*
I’m starting to see a pattern about the worst passives it’s not that they are essentially BAD it’s that after a certain amount of time u can’t use them anymore which highly limits there potential to be op
For example HERO if he didn’t have the mp gauge he would be unbelievably OP
"steve is bad"
wooden 0 to death combo gods: *are we jokes to you?*
I mean Steve is a joke character so yes they are jokes

Steve isn't bad and I don't get why people say so.
Liked for the content. Subbed for separating Shotos from Terry correctly.
Dude, your edition and your content is godlike
As a video editor, I can tell that there was a lot of effort that was put into this video, great content!
Wow this editing is amazing! That trick with Samus grabbing the tether was extremely smooth!
The Steve thing did not age well
Especially not after smash con
Very clean video, and informative too! Keep up the great work!
This is one of the best UA-cam videos I've ever seen
the editing, my god, it’s amazing
Lucario: my aura is the best passive
Sephiroth: hold my sword
Nah until 80 percent there isint any passive yo use and with the one winged it isint a very good buff
hold my overused and unfunny meme
@@juanaco1970 IT could be lower or higher than 80%. Was 3 stocking a Sephi and he got One Winged at about 67
I love your editing in this video. Really creative and high quality. Especially the transparency cut outs of the character animations.
Would love a video tutorial or quick explanation of how you did it so clean
All the magic of green screen! I use a modded switch these days, but the omega version of pacland works great as long as you only want to record from straight on (its a 2D stage). From there though the real polish all comes from Cubed's editing, I just get the raw material and he makes it shine lol
This just appeared in my recomended and this is amazing! The editing is some of the best I've seen. You really deserve more subs
The editing and script for this video are such top quality. This needs more attention lol.
Amazing production value! The algorithm had better reward you!
That outro was great! It’s what the spirit of Smash is all about! 👏🏻
Glad to see this vid's getting traction! You put so much effort in your vids and editing.
I haven’t watched any of your videos before, but this is some of the highest quality content I’ve seen in years
Such a high quality video, down to the voice overs and transitions/animations. You deserve more subs.
Aura doesn't reward you for being resilient it rewards you for being bad
Talks about aura as the best passive then sephiroth gets an aura-like ability in his winged form
Music 10/10
Voice 10/10
Editing 10/10
InGame Shots: INCREDIBLE
Content in general: mad good teaching, easy and entertaining to follow

THIS IS SO WELL EXPLAINED....you earned a subscriber😌
Bro, the quality of this video from a smaller channel is insane. Keep it up and you will become the next BananaBoySSB!
Definitely subbing
"Hero comes up short when compared to other fighters in the roster." Oh ok sure Mr. A Tier
I think that's because of his whole toolset kinda compensating. I mean magic burst is busted as hell but you can't recover very well for a good bit. Or do anything.
Some of the most amazing editing I’ve seen on a video. Great style and content!
The editing... take my sub
The editing in this video is beautiful and i applaud you for that
