Swordie compensates his lack of grounded speed, framedata, oos options with good disjointed shield pressure (airial & grounded), potent b&b's, excellent projectile zoning, good air speed, high dmg output and amazing killpower. He only really struggles against rushdown, but it's still manageable. I always said that people underestimate him a lot. A solid mid/high mid tier imo.

@@chrispo7610 it's quite fast to charge, it's not on the level of a falcon punch, if you have to choose between blurring blade and foward smash, blurring blade is 100% better
I would also like to say from experience that what Gale Stab lacks in killing and damage potential, it makes up for recovery mixups. One of my favorite things to do is to drop from ledge then immediately jump back up and advance with an uncharged stab. Also, if you start charging it when you’re reasonably high from ground level offstage, you can mix up if you go above the enemy (and likely the other side of the stage), wait to go to the ledge, or just charge right through them.

I wish I saw this video when I picked up swordfighter a year and a half ago because instead I had to figure out this stuff by myself (though maybe that learning curve made me better for it). I've been messng around with Shurikan of Light, Airborne Assault, Hero Spin and Reversal Slash and it feels really good. Reversal Slash and Airborne Assault make up fro Hero Spins lack of recovery and that means you have a much better kill option. Shurikan of light feels really good since it basically forces your opponent to approach due to its low lag. It's also really tough punish unlike Gale Strike
My favorite move set is Gale strike, Gale stab, Hero spin and Blade counter. It's basically if Ike and Link fused playstyles. It's fun to use and useful against a lot of the cast
Surprised no mention of shuriken of light true comboing to smash attacks and grab out of a shorthop when delayed vs taller chars. It's pretty useful and you can even cheese with drop from ledge jump shuriken fsmash and it's true
The sad part about Airborne assault is that it got nerfed in Ultimate, in Smash 4 this move can be charged for more distance and power, but not anymore 😞 I still like it tho, just saying that it wasn't as good as before
Stock Mii Swordfighter's counter was just what I needed when somebody in high school would keep spamming RoB's RoB-copter. You'd think he would have stopped spamming after the first few errors, but he just had to keep digging his grave outside the map.
You missed something when you talked about mii swordfighter's counter, the counter is useful after you attack on shield because you can counter after you missed an attack on a shield (especially when you attacked you opponent with an attack unsafe on shield). And besides, the counter comes out frame 10, so I think the counter of the mii swordfighter should be rated 8/10. And also it is normal that the counter has a short activate windows because your opponent won't be able to see what you're gonna do and he will attack first, so it's good. Also most of Super Smash Bros.Ultimate's cast doesn't have a counter, so you should be happy that the Mii swordsman has a counter.
Yeah the counter is bonkers for making bad shield options safe. In a match your opponent will definitely be conditioned to grab after getting hit once or twice which makes it pair well with Airborne Assault. The mind games go crazy
I think blurring blade is a good off stage option. You float while sending out the attack, it is a good multi hitter and you can correct which way you wanna send it out while charging. So you can punish low recoveries 100% without fail by by attacking towards the stage below ledge.
Airborne assult has gotten me more KO'S and saved me from more dangerous situations than i can count Edit: mainly in spirit battles but as a former pichu main and headbutt being a great horizontal recovery option with AA being a more instantaneous version of it yeah it seems like a good option for a more melee focus play style like i have
Personally I would say Airborne Assault is 8/10 because it is a very great tool for recovery even though most people don't use it in competitive play. I think it's pretty decent.
I wish the Mii Swordfighter had more projectiles that attack from a distance, such as Neutral B Cloud's Blade Beam that travels a long distance both on the ground and in the air, 4-Hit Stone Scabbard ascending and pressing B will do a descending, safe on Shield, Shield damage capable of destroying it, can be used multiple times in the air for recovery, more horizontal drift to recovery (kill at 50%), Gale Strike It should have less Startup and endlag and that the tornado hit multiple times capable, more shield damage (kill at 70%), Airbone Assault long range and distance, safe on shield and less endlag and startup, can be used multiple times to recovery in the air (knockback 30%), Chakram will become a Neutral B with more Variants of the same attack, long distance, less endlag, Shield damage and knockback 100%, Shuriken of Light strenght both from near and far, less landing lag and shield damage (Knockback 101%), Blurring Blade will become a Side B, long range will become a Side B, , less endlag and startup, Hitboxes on ledge, will become a Side B, more Shield damage (kill at 29%), Skyward Slash Dash more horizontal drift to recovery, used in the air multiple times for recovery, less startup and landinglag (kill 50%), Hero Spin, more horizontal drift, less endlag and startup, long distance to vertical recovery, safe on Shield (kill 27%), Gale Stab, travel a long distance to recovery, Be able to break the opponent's shield in full charge, sure to hold on the ledges, use it multiple times in the air for recovery (Kill at 28%), Blade Counter, horizontal knockback to drive away the opponent, long activation Window, Thrust Power will become a Side B of Gale Stab, long distance to recovery, more knockback, safe on shield, can be used multiple times in the air for recovery (Kill at 20%). These are some buffs that I would like you to do with the Swordfighter. It would be great if the Mii Swordfighter also had critical attacks in its Smash Attacks, its Forward Smash would become a sword(similar to Marth, Ike, Ganondorf and Roy) with a high speed with less Startup and landing lag covering a big range, more knockback, Up smash a jump lunge similar to Hero's Up tilt covering a huge arc, more knockback, his Down Smash will be the same, he will only have less Startup and landing lag. PD: Mii Swordfighter It must also have a shield like Link and Hero's to protect itself from projectiles. In another comment I will make a list of projectiles that I would like this character to have in a future installment of Super Smash Bros.
I had this kind of thought before, but I think that both mii brawler & swordfighter should have elemental specials instead of having just 1 elemental special. So here's the ideas that I had in mind: Mii Swordfighter: Blurring Blade Variations: Fire variant: Slow but powerful Ice variant: Mediocre power and have a 30-58% chance of freezing the opponent Lighting variant: Fast, have good hitstun, but weak Normal variant: Mediocre power and speed, much like in smash 4 Mii Brawler: Exploding Side Kick Variations: Fire Variant: This is obviously simple, but slightly increase the speed Ice Variant: Mediocre power and has a 43-61% of freezing the opponent Lighting Variant: Fast, has a good hitstun, but weak. Normal Variant: Mediocre power and speed Burning Dropkick Variations: Fire Variant: Obvious, slow but powerful Ice Variant: Mediocre power and has a 27-46% chance of freezing the opponent Lighting Variant: Fast, has a good hitstun, but weak Normal Variant: Mediocre power and speed And that's about it. Of course, Nintendo doesn't have to add this, but it would be nice if they did this tho. Also, gunner is fine in this case since she mostly uses fire and electric special moves.
@@jtj.universal4817 I liked your ideas, although I would prefer that all those attacks kill 0-50% to make it a stronger character. It's only my opinion.
@@olafgarcia6238 True....but personally for me, I think that the Mii fighters deserves a whole lot more than this. But I see where you're getting at though.
Great question! In Smash terminology, "freefall" means the state that most characters enter after doing an up B, where they can't take any action at all.
Imagine all 3 Mii fighters had like 2 or 3 different moveset to use (not specials, actual movesets). Now of course, this is only my opinion so Nintendo doesn't have to add this feature into the game, but it would be nice if they did. I'll try & relate Mii Brawler's movesets from real life, Swordfighter's movesets from Miitopia, & just general fanmade for gunner. That being said, Here's the different movesets that I would like Mii Swordfighter to have (doing it based on video): Swordfighter would have 2 different movesets along side with his default. Here's the 2 different movesets: Warrior: This is a little similar to the 3 links, & a little combination of Marth/Lucina, Roy, & Chrom, along side with some assets from Miitopia Slasher: This moveset will deal with rapid jabs & quick attacks like Young Link's rapid jab, Marth, Lucina, Roy, & Chrom's neutral air, & some assets from other swords characters
Yeah, it would be neat if Mii Swordfighter could fight like Roy/Chrom and not having to be balanced around having projectiles. All into speed and power!
I think it's a pretty decent character, however the biggest downside is that it's really slow on the ground and very laggy moves, like forward tilt and dash attack...
Shameless 2323 Mii Swordfighter 3rd-inary here. Shakram, because of course. SSD, because it is by far the most versatile and good recovery, so it takes off a lot of the stress when you try to edgeguard. Plus, you can end a combo off of the side with it quite easily just like with Sephiroth's up B, which can lead to some epic combos. Power thrust because it is an unreactable burst option kill move, which is super scary for our opponents. If you catch your opponent in any bit of lag with a move; bam, down b, DEAD. Lastly, I use shuriken of light because it seems like it probably synergises well with my other choices and completes my moveset, covering other weaknesses, but as it stands currently, I just don't know how to use them. I just know that Gale Strike is predictable, really easy to avoid, very unsafe, cliche, and the only good thing that you can get off of it if you don't have Hero's Spin is Up-air, which is tricky. Plus neutral B 3 is just kinda redundant; mii swordfighter has a lot of good close-range tools, and they just don't really need any more.
Thanks started to use this Character more, I think he has the best Projectile in the Game and the Fakt that he is a Zoner with A Sword makes me questioning why this Character isnt played.
Thank you so much for this video I really wanted to hear someone give thoughts about all the un-used specials. What would you think if power thrust had a spike hitbox :)
I'm glad you like it! I'd love it if Power Thrust could spike; I don't see much use out of PT otherwise, and those sorts of special-move spikes are always really hype. Just imagine tornado -> power thrust spike

3: Blurring Blade
1: Airborn Assault
2: Skyward Slash Dash
2: Reversal Slash
4:35
"capable of killing early at full charge"
'early'
'115%'
pick one
it does kill at like 30 at ledge tho
@@maddox9001 okay, that makes a lot more sense
Extra minus to Gale Stab: *snoring noises*
Heck, imma still use Blurring Blade
I use personally gale strike, nado, power thrust and hero spin. Might need to put on chakram though
I am interested by this series and I hope mii gunner comes out soon
Apparently, gale stab (Ike side b) combos into itself at low percents. That should be a bonus.
The sad part about Airborne assault is that it got nerfed in Ultimate, in Smash 4 this move can be charged for more distance and power, but not anymore 😞
I still like it tho, just saying that it wasn't as good as before
Take a shot every time a move is laggy or unsafe on shield
It do, unfortunately, be that way.
Thankfully his normals are pretty alright on shield, especially dtilt.
TLDR comment for lazy people:
Neutrals:
- Gale Strike 9/10
- Shuriken of Light 7/10
- Blurring Blade 5/10
Sides:
- Airborne Assault 5-7/10
- Gale Stab 4-7/10
- Chakram 10/10
Ups:
- Stone Scabbard 7/10
- Skyward Slash Dash 8/10
- Hero Spin 7/10
Downs:
- Blade Counter 6/10
- Reversal Slash 9/10
- Power Thrust 8 /10
Final "recommended set": 1322
I love the perfectly cut K.O.'s
I think blurring blade is a good off stage option. You float while sending out the attack, it is a good multi hitter and you can correct which way you wanna send it out while charging.
So you can punish low recoveries 100% without fail by by attacking towards the stage below ledge.
I use blurring blade pretty well.
Airborne assult has gotten me more KO'S and saved me from more dangerous situations than i can count
Edit: mainly in spirit battles but as a former pichu main and headbutt being a great horizontal recovery option with AA being a more instantaneous version of it yeah it seems like a good option for a more melee focus play style like i have
Personally I would say Airborne Assault is 8/10 because it is a very great tool for recovery even though most people don't use it in competitive play.
So here's the ideas that I had in mind:
Mii Swordfighter:
Blurring Blade Variations:
Fire variant: Slow but powerful
Ice variant: Mediocre power and have a 30-58% chance of freezing the opponent
Lighting variant: Fast, have good hitstun, but weak
Normal variant: Mediocre power and speed, much like in smash 4
Mii Brawler:
Exploding Side Kick Variations:
Fire Variant: This is obviously simple, but slightly increase the speed
Ice Variant: Mediocre power and has a 43-61% of freezing the opponent
Lighting Variant: Fast, has a good hitstun, but weak.
Normal Variant: Mediocre power and speed
Burning Dropkick Variations:
Fire Variant: Obvious, slow but powerful
Ice Variant: Mediocre power and has a 27-46% chance of freezing the opponent
Lighting Variant: Fast, has a good hitstun, but weak
Normal Variant: Mediocre power and speed
And that's about it.
Side B 1 (the spinny move) always puts you in freefall if you dont react with another movement option
3:31
love the content, but doesn't everything put you into freefall if you dont do anything after?
Great question!
In Smash terminology, "freefall" means the state that most characters enter after doing an up B, where they can't take any action at all.
This was pretty nice and really informative. Are u gonna do a guide on what the miis should wear?
I wish gale stab crossed up shields and didnt put into freefall. That move would be so much fun
That being said, Here's the different movesets that I would like Mii Swordfighter to have (doing it based on video):
Swordfighter would have 2 different movesets along side with his default. Here's the 2 different movesets:
Warrior: This is a little similar to the 3 links, & a little combination of Marth/Lucina, Roy, & Chrom, along side with some assets from Miitopia
Slasher: This moveset will deal with rapid jabs & quick attacks like Young Link's rapid jab, Marth, Lucina, Roy, & Chrom's neutral air, & some assets from other swords characters
Yeah, it would be neat if Mii Swordfighter could fight like Roy/Chrom and not having to be balanced around having projectiles. All into speed and power!
I still play smash 4 with the swordfighter mii and I always use the counter because I never learned to mix my attacks with the shield or dodging
My special would be:
Netural special: blurring blade
Side special: chakaram
Up special:skyward slash dash
Down special: reversal slash
Thanks started to use this Character more, I think he has the best Projectile in the Game and the Fakt that he is a Zoner with A Sword makes me questioning why this Character isnt played.
hero's spin depends on angle
Thank you so much for this video I really wanted to hear someone give thoughts about all the un-used specials. What would you think if power thrust had a spike hitbox :)
I'm glad you like it! I'd love it if Power Thrust could spike; I don't see much use out of PT otherwise, and those sorts of special-move spikes are always really hype.
Just imagine tornado -> power thrust spike
Omg that’d be pure food for every new content creator’s montage holy moly.
If you hate duck hunt just run tornado. It destroys pigeon and gunman, and hits can.
I personally prefer the charge dash over airborne assault, mainly because it comes out faster and allows for faster followups from farther away.
