After wasting hours surfing Toyota forums, only to get a wild variety of plausible to downright sarcastic and rude suggestions, I found this link through google, and this guy was spot on- he’s a great mechanic. Turns out the coolant loop inside my throttle body was plugged, just like he suggested- after cleaning and removing carbon, the truck is now a pleasure to drive again- no longer a 2200 rpm idle. Also removed the dashpot that raises the idle for AC operation, and some compressed air cleaned it out and it is now functional again. I started the engine with the inlet and outlet hoses disconnected after cleaning to make sure any loose debris that may have been inside the hoses didn’t end up lodged back in the throttle body. A good flush and fresh coolant solved my truck’s issue for less than $20. I’d totally throw you a 20 if you had a “donate” feature, poster. Thank you for the great video

Thanks for engaging with my comment even 4 years later man, really appreciate it. Maybe you can give me an outside opinion on my 22re. My idle rpms are bouncing between 1750-2100 I disconnected the tps and it stops bouncing but stays high. Any idea what it might be? I tried swapping the sensor itself with a known working one but it does the same thing, and the coolant lines are not clogged.
Rick Ham this engine is the legendary of toyota who ever has one of this trucks knows what is carburater . efi and with turbo. personally my truck is 22r carburator , a 22r carb would not have high idle unless it has vacuum leak , what ultimately is what that valve does on efi, this channel is intended to help more to people with advance knowledge with should be no problem to identify tgr diferences on engines
Great video, buddy! I have a buddy's truck right now that has a newly rebuilt 22RE with LC engineering header and all kinds of other goodies... Cam, Etc. There's a very slight surge that's mostly only noticeable once it's fully warm, starts cold at way too high in idle, and then drops down as it's supposed to, but seems to take too long to get there. I adjusted the TPS and got rid of that code and a EGR temp sensor code, but it still has such a high idle at cold start. I feel like I may still have a TPS issues but I'm going to definitely check the auxiliary air valve. You did a great job on this video
Hey my Toyota Camry 92 v6 is having a high idle at start up around 2100 rpms and after warming up a tad bit I seems to surge up and down continuously. At low speeds it surges. I’ve changed the MAF, TBS, IACV. Nothing worked!! And I have no check engine lights! What’s going on here?!! Please help!
Joel, can that cause the truck to stall while going down the road or stopping at a stoplight or sign? Cause I’ve been having a issue and I’ve changed the distributor all the spark plugs and wires. I have a new fuel filter on it and I’ve checked the battery and alternator working good. It started a few months back. It starts fine but once it stalls I have to give a few minutes before starting again.
the test of plugging is key, that test is to find out if the rpm comes to minimum idle , about 550 rpm that means the valve was letting extra air indeed increase rpm. how about if the rpm stay high after you plugg it what is jot the problem. that is the point of the video developing testing techniques
Hey brother. I did a ego delete and cleaned throttle body . And now its 1000 to 1500 remove. And blocking hole doesn't doesn't change anything and triple checked for vacuum leaks and nothing.. any ideas? Thank u!

mira cuando no arranca y le acaban de trabajar tienen que comenzar por las bases una es antes arrancaba ya ahora no eso significa que algo ocurrió durante se le trabajo. uno tiene que chequear si hay chispa , tengo vídeos de eso, 2 si hay chispa hay que ver si esta ha tiempo si pusieron el distribuidor mal ba ha ver chispa pero fuera de tiempo ese sería el comienzo , 2 hay gasolina ? simple prueba agarra una lata de limpiador de frenos y remueve una manguera al manifold de admisión mientras da marcha le sprayas liquido si arranca es problema de gas . ojo si mo es problema de gas te escupe para afuera el líquido y puede hacer explosiones . puedes usar liquido de arranque que venden en las auto partes

I’d pull a compression test on the cylinders first, and inspect the burn pattern of the plugs while they’re out. provided those numbers are good, I’d probably check for a clogged catalytic- what you’re describing matches a plugged exhaust.

el sensor de oxígeno probable cuando esta frio no lo toma en cuenta la computadora. o probable injectores ponle un limpiador al tanque estos en el cuerpo de aceleración traen un tornillo para regular como ti poi mezcla . viene sellado ha veses de fábrica. si lo regulas cuantas cuantas vueltas le das para que se estabilice la marcha mínima por si acaso nesecita s regresarl o a la pocicion donde estaba
Why does my Toyota 22r stall when it warms up? runs perfect until it gets to operating temperature then rpms fall to 400 and dies? Only code is knock sensor. Any ideas? Thanks
kc fox check your coolant temperature sensor and see if you get resistance set it to 20k and cooled down would be like 2.0 around that. The wire internally was broke now it runs great after I changed it. Also had to reset my RPM’s. Hope that fixes your problem

codigos?? flujo de datos ; como están los fuel Trim. ajuste corto alcance largo total por banco : bajon 4 condiciones , marcha mínima , 2500 revoluciones .3500 revoluciones y en reversa con el freno puesto y acelerando , también vete en la scanner en modo genérico al modo 6 y después test id 51 o 53 y alli ba a ha encontrar el historia de los cylindros con problemas de combustión . meas tiene que estar en 0 por cada cylindro . despues que tengas esa información me das eso numero y vemos en que dirección se mueve .

chequea el vidrio del carburador tiene que estar a la mitad , cuando paras el carro de trabajar y después que no quiere arrancar tine que estar igual y si esta bajo te está fugando interno el carburador y de ser así te tira humo negro cuando arranca

Turns out the coolant loop inside my throttle body was plugged, just like he suggested- after cleaning and removing carbon, the truck is now a pleasure to drive again- no longer a 2200 rpm idle.
Also removed the dashpot that raises the idle for AC operation, and some compressed air cleaned it out and it is now functional again.

My truck had the surging idle problem. Due to a wornout idle screw. Got the lce idle screw no leaks. Plus I live in Hawaii, no smog laws here. Aloha

You have to Chek the sensor values vrs actual , as ect sensor ,tps , vaf, I said Chek inspect I did no se replace them

That is a 22re fuel injected engine. You confuse people when you call this a 22r. 22r is carburetorated engine.

It's fuel injected, there are carburator, fuel injection , and fuel injection with turbo .

well is the rough engine conditions at all time idle , cruising wide open throttle?? those injector are common to fail , the computer control a group 3 injectors a t the same time if one has resistance problem , drop the whole bank.

I’d pull a compression test on the cylinders first, and inspect the burn pattern of the plugs while they’re out. provided those numbers are good, I’d probably check for a clogged catalytic- what you’re describing matches a plugged exhaust.

estos en el cuerpo de aceleración traen un tornillo para regular como ti poi mezcla . viene sellado ha veses de fábrica. si lo regulas cuantas cuantas vueltas le das para que se estabilice la marcha mínima por si acaso nesecita s regresarl o a la pocicion donde estaba

kc fox check your coolant temperature sensor and see if you get resistance set it to 20k and cooled down would be like 2.0 around that. The wire internally was broke now it runs great after I changed it. Also had to reset my RPM’s. Hope that fixes your problem

flujo de datos ; como están los fuel Trim. ajuste corto alcance largo total por banco : bajon 4 condiciones , marcha mínima , 2500 revoluciones .3500 revoluciones y en reversa con el freno puesto y acelerando ,
también vete en la scanner en modo genérico al modo 6 y después test id 51 o 53 y alli ba a ha encontrar el historia de los cylindros con problemas de combustión . meas tiene que estar en 0 por cada cylindro . despues que tengas esa información me das eso numero y vemos en que dirección se mueve .
Buenas tardes maestro me podrá ayudar con un problema con camioneta Nissan modelo 84 Z24 de carburador el problema es que todas las mañana tarda en arrancar le tengo que dar como unas 10 aceleradas para que prenda espero me puedas ayudar
chequea el vidrio del carburador tiene que estar a la mitad , cuando paras el carro de trabajar y después que no quiere arrancar tine que estar igual y si esta bajo te está fugando interno el carburador y de ser así te tira humo negro cuando arranca

under normal conditions you shouldn't do that , when I am doing smog inspection I can tell you when people move that one what happen is its alter the emission reading co or hc goes high
