  • Glycogen is your enemy and your friend. Our bodies store energy as sugar or fat. Glycogen- stored sugar- can be your enemy or your friend. We use glycogen when our body needs a little boost of energy. Too much Glycogen can lead to fatty livers and cause your liver to fail.
    Get rid of your fatty liver by staying in ketosis. Use fasting, a keto diet, or BHB Powder. Listen and learn.
    BHB Powder will give you the ketones needed to energize your body and help burn that excess Glycogen: Try it here: amzn.to/2M4tJpw

    Most common questions I get ...
    1) "Doc, what BLOOD KETONE METER do you recommend?"
    ANSWER: FORACARE: bit.ly/2QKGmKG (Promo-code: Dr.Boz)
    It's accurate and takes only ONE test-strip to get results. YES!!
    2) "Doc, what can I have while fasting?"
    Salt + water are best.
    Pocket Salt: bit.ly/31ypeen (Promo code: DrBoz)
    Salt Sucking Rocks: bit.ly/3bkpZMl (Promo code: DrBoz)
    Sounds weird but it's strangely satisfying.
    Black coffee - I prefer cold brew coffee.
    Fasting tea. My favorite = Pique Tea Instant Crystals:
    Bergamot Black Tea: bit.ly/2T5Ej3d
    Pique Teas have great flavor and the highest antioxidants possible. They
    freeze dry their tea into crystals. Pique Tea acts like instant tea ... with
    GREAT TASTE. Not bitter. Not moldy.
    Ketones-In-A-Can is also a nice option during a fast. If you have to have
    something, use ketones to strengthen your metabolism during your fast.
    Bone broth bit.ly/3asMa1G
    3) "Doc, how do you know if you're eating the right fat?"
    Measure it. Your Red Blood Cells keep track of the fat you eat. The "skin"
    of your red blood cells show the answer. Order the test and do it at
    home. Mail it in for your results. No doctor's order needed.

    I have to say it again. I love Dr. Boz! Thank your yet another very educating video! I was almost insulin resistant quite a few years ago and ate no carbs! My chiropractor/Dr told me that and I was in shock. But no wonder I had trouble losing weight. He said you have to read every ingredient in everything that goes in your body, and I researched and found a lot of things they put into almost everything was spiking my insulin. We really have to do our homework. Beings as I'm 99% pure carnivore now I don't have to worry about what is in everything I eat. I can't wait to see your next video! Thank you, again, Dr. Boz!

  • @smetzgerful

    The reason insulin is high and won’t come down is because people are addicted to sugar/carbs (they snack on carbs and are in denial about it - addiction!) The body won’t make ketones until glycogen stores are depleted. Simply stop all carbs by crowding them out with savoury, salty, juicy morsels of meat! Cook extra and have them ready when the carb cravings hit. Steak, roasts, meat loaves, sausages, hamburger patties, etc ....just make sure the sausages/meat loaves/patties aren’t made with bread crumbs/binders that contain carbs.
    This is human physiology-we are all the same! Some just cheat more than others! Gluconeogenesis is demand-driven and our bodies will make all the glucose we need from the meat you eat. If you don’t eat enough meat, it will make it from your muscles. Here are the steps to get into ketosis:
    1. Stop eating carbs. Be as close to 0 grams carbs per day as you can. Crowd out the carbs with fatty, savoury, salty, meat. I don’t care if you have to eat 10 pounds of sausage-DONT EAT ANY CARBS.
    2. Eat less frequently. Ideally you should practice intermittent fasting. Try black coffee for breakfast, then just eat a big lunch and a big dinner. BIG meals so you don’t have to snack. Every time you eat, insulin gets released. That’s why time-restricted eating helps. If you do have to snack, then make sure it is savoury, salty meat! Baby steps....the fatty/protein laden meat will gradually kill your appetite. Then try to go even longer between meals. My first time getting into ketosis.....I didn’t eat anything that day until 6pm dinner (just black coffee/tea).
    3. Know that vegetables contain carbs. So you can’t have starchy vegetables (rice/potatoes/turnips/carrots/corn/peas). Cruciferous vegetables are best (broccoli/cauliflower/salads/greens). Consider eliminating all vegetables for a few days for that first time getting into ketosis then it gets easier after that.
    4. Avoid all seed/fake oils (soybean/corn/canola). Make your own salad dressing like oil and vinegar with olive oil or use hot melted butter (surprisingly good on salads!). Use only butter/lard/coconut fat when cooking.
    Remember the “ONE THING” that determines if you enter ketosis is your daily carb intake. Daily carbs should be as close to zero as possible keeping them below 50 grams per day for first time getting into ketosis is not good enough. If you had a salad and some broccoli, you will likely be around 30 grams which may still be too high for your first time. Ignore everything else as it will just distract you. Tweak things later. Use an app like “my fitness pal” to help you count your carbs in the beginning. Totally geek-out and MAKE SURE your dam carbs stay almost at zero!

      It's not just carbs but also overall caloric value, at least when it comes to using body fat. You can be ketogenic but running off your food. The reason exercise helps if from such glycogen deprivation which is what helps balance blood glucose in those that eat carbs, but don't overeat. The body can handle a bit if you're healthy. Insulin resistance makes it very hard to convert over from carbs to fat, because of extended raised insulin once you no longer need it and instead go hypoglycemic instead of switching over to body fat utilization, which can only happen with lower insulin. Muscles low on glycogen takes little to no insulin to uptake glucose which is why exercise helps.

      Julie Fitzsimmons I started at 59 in March 2018. I’m now 61 and 35 pounds down. March 2020 will be 2 years on keto. I love it. I feel amazing. I will never go back!! Do I eat carbs? Yes. Once a week probably. Like holidays or a birthday or a night out with my husband. People spend so much money on scales and powders and pills. I did it for free. The thing I’d invest in is a ketone meter. Learn the 3 types. Personally I’m going to invest in the breath one. I really wish I had done this before. Happy weightloss!!! You can do it.

    • @TmissinglinkC
      @TmissinglinkC 4 роки тому

      Honestly, if you're doing keto, talk to your parents about it and show them how easy it is. You don't have to give up your favorite foods, but you might have to make them differently, with almond flour or mashed cauliflower. But, there are so many recipes available everywhere that it makes Keto easy. Also, I convinced my wife to switch to keto by easing us in to it. It took a couple of months of 1 meal of keto a day, and then slowly giving up certain drinks, just like Dr. Boz teaches. Another idea with xmas right around the corner would be to give them Dr. Boz's book to read, it really talks about amazing benefits anyone can get from less inflammation.

    Do we really get "some" fat metabolism at 16 hours already? I do not experience the ketosis smell yet at that point. How would muscles have enough strength if they didn't have a chance to refill the glycogen in the complete absence of carbohydrates?
    A couple years ago I would get headache and shaky hands and thought it was just normal signal to eat instead of big trouble. But now surprisingly I can survive for a day on a mixed meal. And I find that the circulation in my legs has improved.

    Hi Doc, I'm nearly 57, I have a fatty liver, I don't have a gallbladder, I'm in my third week on the Keto diet and I'm intermittently fasting and sometimes OMD. Apart from a little constipation at the start, I have almost constant diarrhea, trying to soldier through it. I have lost a lot of weight, for the first time in my life I had 2 people on the same day ask if I had lost weight. I'm finding that I can think more clearly, I seem to have a lot more energy, I don't get angry as much as I did, and my hay fever and dust allergy's seem to have improved.
    Would knowing my Insulin and Keyton levels help? Should I get a blood meter?

      I'm 54 and no gallbladder either. Ive been keto 3 months & have found the diarrhea is near-constant. I haven't lost an ounce, and I find myself wondering if I'm not getting the necessary nutrients AND not able to use my fat as fuel because of no GB.

      I have had the same situation but am doing better with the diarrhea using Culturelle probiotic as it calms Mast Cells and using some digestive enzymes. The Culturelle contains only one strain of probiotic that is for calming Mast cells. Multiple strains probiotics can actually contain strains that make things worse for mast cells. The digestive enzymes help with digesting fats. I hope to be able to discontinue those as my body heals. Good luck

      @@elvetaverhoeve7633 If you're taking a multi-strain probiotic it may be making things worse. That means your average probiotic which contains some 10-15 strains or more contains strains that activate mast cells. Culturelle only contains ONE strain, LactoBacillus Rhamnosus and it known to be a mast cell stabilizer. KETO is a very high histamine diet...aged meat, aged cheese etc. Mast cells are triggered by such foods. I take one a little before I eat and it does help calm things down. I get further help from the enzymes without ox bile. I take one up to 10 minutes before eating. I have also taken two before but have not added the second one in this time yet.

    I take Seroquel for bipolar disorder. Seroquel causes an increase of triglycerides in the blood. Am I doomed to be obese as long as I'm on Seroquel? I was a healthy weight before I started Seroquel, and over a period of 8 years I gained 103 lbs.

    • @billleach3396
      @billleach3396 4 роки тому +3

      Work by Dr. Brogan and others is highly suggestive that a ketogenic diet might well correct your bipolar disorder with time and therefor reduce or eliminate your need for seroquel.

      Bill Leach I would LOVE to be able to come off Seroquel, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to sleep. I'm on 700 mg right now, as well as 250 mg of trazodone (to help me sleep), but I think I'm just so used to these meds that on top of them I need magnesium and melatonin as well to fall asleep.

      consistent use of melatonin will eventually mess with your sleep patterns. Please do not take it everyday,, try to take a break from it for a month then take it sparingly

      @@shenandoah1322 Dr. Boz uses a sleep protocol that might work for you. I don't know which videos it was discussed in but they are on YT. It is a somewhat complicated process but it does work. Unfortunately, seroquel and almost all other drug that 'are sleep aids' act on receptors that are involved in opioid or alcohol metabolism and thus 'knock you out' but do not provide restorative sleep.
      Ketogenic or carnivore diets, particularly with some measure of fasting are especially restorative for the body. Though the fasting part should normally not be forced but rather be allowed to occur naturally as the fat adaption happens. A problem that you specifically may be facing is that seroquel use leads to additional insulin resistance. This would mean that even small amounts of sugars or other carbohydrates could result in elevated insulin levels which fouls up the entire process of becoming 'fat adapted.'
      If you are actually diabetic as well when on seroquel I suggest that it is essential that you do have a skilled practitioner monitoring you as well as your own measurements of blood glucose and blood ketones because under such conditions you could tend toward actual ketoacidosis.
      A huge problem for all of us embarked upon using diet to improve general health is our impatience. Much of what happens takes quite a bit of time. It is the fact that, for a person in reasonably OK health, weight loss is often dramatic on a keto or carnivore diet that people will 'stick to it.' Other problems clear up more slowly and less dramatically.

    • @shenandoah1322
      @shenandoah1322 4 роки тому +1

      Bill Leach thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed reply! I will check out that sleep protocol video. Thankfully I am not diabetic, and I have managed to lose 30 lbs (then I fell off the wagon and gained some back, but losing again). I have to keep my carbs limited to mainly vegetables. I can't do too much almond flour or any sweet keto product (I love Perfect Keto's salted caramel collagen powder way too much) because they cause me to crave more sweets. And both the Seroquel and trazodone seem to do that to me as well. When I can get back hardcore into the gym I will, but I have to be patient with that too. I am recovering from surgery to have my appendix removed. That was Oct. 31, but I still have to be careful how strenuous I am with my exercise.

    Please clear this. Every one is acted of doing ketos diet because they feel high fats diet will cause fatgh liver.b
