- It’s been a year like no other, and we aren’t talking about the pandemic. There were rapid-fire public offerings, surging cryptocurrencies and skyrocketing stock prices. The number of billionaires on Forbes’ 35th annual list of the world’s wealthiest exploded to an unprecedented 2,755--660 more than a year ago. Of those, a record high 493 were new to the list--roughly one every 17 hours, including 210 from China and Hong Kong. Another 250 who’d fallen off in the past came roaring back. A staggering 86% are richer than a year ago.
Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest for the fourth year running, worth $177 billion, while Elon Musk rocketed into the number two spot with $151 billion, as Tesla and Amazon shares surged.
Altogether these billionaires are worth $13.1 trillion, up from $8 trillion in 2020. The U.S. still has the most, with 724, followed by China (including Hong Kong and Macao) with 698. We used stock prices and exchange rates from March 5 to calculate net worths. See below for the full list of the world’s billionaires and our methodology.

I hope you guys understand that having Elon having 150 billion is "virtual" money. In the Elon case and many others they own a % of a company and that translates to the net worth. They would have to sell their whole positions on that companies to be that rich.
So they re potential billionaires
Plus once they sell chunk of their stocks, the company's value will go down furthering the decrease of their net worth.

Exactly and this simple logic still can't get into mind of lazy Communist who wants to eat the rich. They literally want to kill jeff bezos because he has more money . Why can't they see the amount of hardwrok they have put to build their infrastructure. Here in india we have another great example of founder of paytm which is just simple online payment app. In 2016 government banned old currency notes and everyone was left with digital payment options for few days and paytm was the only best working app at that time and thats why it went up by 400% in customer base. Did the founder waited for currency ban to happen ? No ! He just built the infrastructure which he believed in and things took on from there.
There will be more and more billionaires coming through.. That's for sure.

Beautifully said, I tell my folks these words everyday. It's good to save money but most people don't understand the market moves and tend to be misled in facts like this and always depend on money in the bank.

Impressive, I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment.. I always tell myself you don’t need that new Aston Martin or that vacation in Hawaii just yet and that mindset helps me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 100grand in the S&P 500 (with the help of my advisor of course) and made 350k, but guess what? I put it back and traded with her again and now I’m rounding up close to a million. Hoping to get to 2 In 6 months time

The reason the poor people are poor is not because they are not smart or hardworking. It just so happens that every step forward involves risks. Rich or middle class people have second third fourth and other chances. For poor individuals, a single decision is all they have. They keep on waiting for that single turnaround chance. And as they wait, the rich can try risking over and over again. They learn much quicker. By the time the poor people try, the early birds have already dominated the trade. It's a vicious reality.

Not really. Being rich is certainly nice, but even most rich people realize that money stops mattering after a certain amount. The marginal benefit curve representing every extra dollar you could earn is an upside down U. Therefore, a content life comes from having gratitude about small, but fulfilling, positive experiences everyday.
Millionaires are such a common thing nowadays due to the avenues available today - - example, make the right steps with e.g. Crypto, and you could be a millionaire in no time. All from the comfort of being at home.

So how can I admire them on the same level of those I know the actions of? It's not safe to assume that every single one of them does anything worthwhile. If I get to know what the others do, then I can maybe admire them or not based on what I see as worthwhile.
