So refreshing to see a leader of a Western nation engage in such a complicated tech discussion through simply terminology that a lay person is also able to absorb the gist of it - I particularly liked his acknowledgment as a policy maker of concerns of parents who worry about their children's career future and how there may be a future very soon with the oncoming AI where a person has no drive to work, no purpose to achieve anymore. A well-rounded politician who is looking ahead with a realistic lens. I hope he has set in stone the discussion around AI safety and its boundaries in ensuring that creative industry won't suffer, tech jobs won't be lost and automated services don't just take over our day-to-day lives that we end up having to lose basic emotions and values!

I'm not a huge fan of Rishi, but he seems to genuinely want to understand more about AI as opposed to just trying to score political points so I respect him for this.

Rishi Sunak clearly has a good grasp of the tech industry along with both the threats and opportunities posed by AI. He came across incredibly well and like others have said, seeing how our political leaders perform in different roles gives us a much broader insight into who they are and the skills they possess. We often gain a deeper and more meaningful understanding of ourselves from the manner in which we learn, as opposed to the specific information we acquire. This deeper self-understanding is a concern of mine when considering the implications of people learning through AI instead of human teachers or traditional methods.
But I never learned anything through teachers. All I did was return home, open the books, and read it myself.

Thank you Mr. Sunak and Mr. Musk for a productive conversation. Regarding Artificial Intelligence safety, factor in this. From drone airforces flying over the Middle East and taking sons and even daughters to robo-police that go into homes and kill my mother's psychiatric patients(and psych patients more generally) to handling delicate social and financial information, etc., online, mass automation has long been reality, but not intelligence; which has been a horrendous problem. It's harder to achieve true artificial intelligence than increased automation of human services; for example, if you talk to say Microsoft Bing etc. too often they will tow authoritarian lines. This is not intelligent. By having open democratic conversations that solve problems through debate, allow controversies and thoughtful resolutions, we start to create artificial intelligence. Do not confuse massive computing and memorization ability with intelligence; such systems will easily be outmaneuvered by actual intelligence. Look at the restrictions on AI in China avoiding all social, intellectual, and political controversies; this essentially forbids the evolution of actual artificial intelligence, which is not good for safety, because they'll keep handing our lives and life affairs over to robots, no matter how callous and dumb they are.

Politicians shouldn't be led by any one group. Their job is to take into account many perspectives including scientific ones but ultimately they're representatives of the people of the country and you can't make effective decisions with siloed scientific voices alone, as the pandemic showed.

They're just a bunch of rich people with a huge ego controlling everything and aint got a clue about normal day to day life. Scientists should be the backbone of a society. And politics should listen to what the people want vs the science. And make fact based decisions.
