We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. Erin, I know it's really none of our or my business, so let me just say that you are still in my thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. I know you were waiting on test results and hope they came in and provided answers and clues on how to treat what ever is going on. It's good to see you guys back at construction. The kids are getting so big. Ellie is so darn cute and I love seeing her caring for and giving the animals some of her lovin'. She is such a loving and caring soul - such a sweet girl. My husband and I always watched the build from the first time you published it. Unfortunately, he went to heaven last Friday, May 3, 2024. He was in the hospital for 300 days! My strong man! He was 76 and I am 71. We two old folks lived vicariously through y'all. I will continue. Thank you and God bless!

I just posted this page, on the web, we have all become family, watching the build, the animals, the children grow, the house expand, seeing each others posts, caring about hurricanes, freezing weather, floods, sunshine but most of all, the love the family have shared with us all along the way.
It is so neat to watch your children pitch in and help, they are learning so much. Being a very old teacher I think this kind of learning is better than a college education. They are learning about real life, helping others and getting business skills that will help them their whole lives.

Ellie looks like she grew a year in one video ! Nice to see yall back to doing what you do best, building ! Stopped down from NJ last week and wanted to let everyone know once again how good the food was. Everything was delicious, and the coffee and soaps and cookies were very good as well. The restaurant restoration came out magnificent even the barstools were comfy. Cant wait to make another road trip for some more good eats and great hospitality !!!

I noticed you handing the nail gun to each other with it pointed at one another, once at Erin's head (14:06). Glad to hear you thinking of Ellie's fire escape. Third story is scary high - once you get the escape thought out and in place, get her to practice actually descending to the ground, so she's not frozen in terror of that climb down. The same for any other residents of higher than ground floor bedrooms.
Excellent idea. It does work better to be prepared in an emergency as you fall back on your training.
If Ellie doesn't become a Vet then I don't know. Her love for animals is absolutely amazing. Congrats on the WRC and wishing you both many years of coffees and pastries. Lol from South Africa

I’ve been watching y’all since the videos when you made the mock up for the A-frame and there is one thing that is consistent. Y’all are a beautiful family. Many people say it over and over in the comments.
I’ve commented a few times and it is always a struggle to find the words, suffice it to say y’all bring some joy, peace, and grace into the lives of those of us who are blessed enough to share in your journey.

Noticed the height of your addition and how winds will act on the various shapes. Have you considered tying the some points to ground anchors via cables which can be done during framing. I know you can get strong storms in your area. Odd shapes are the first to go in storms.

It was great meeting you Saturday afternoon at Wild Roots Cafe. We're glad we made the drive from State College, PA to check out the restaurant and area. The Romney area is a beautiful small town with friendly people. And the staff at Wild Roots Cafe is hard working and so nice/inviting. Perhaps we'll meet again on the road sometime in the future when you're traveling in your camper van and we're out in our travel trailer or motorhome.

The house addition is really coming together nicely - great design. Josh is an excellent framing carpenter. The cafe menu and food (particularly the baked goods) look awesome. I love the fact that it all is scratch-made. Hope Erin is doing well and is fully recovered.

Try a old white sock to stain with. You can slip your hand inside and it really allows a smooth stain. A old timer told me about this . I was brushing, and ragging like you were. The sock was amazing
good tip ! the shape of the sock would prevent the stain from spread across an entire rag.
