Ana, I agree. I think Annie Clarke's voice goes really well with acoustic guitar playing, at the same time she has a wide tonal range and can adapt her voice to different sound or tone levels. I also really enjoy her electric guitar riffs and solos. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
both are great, but I think the percussion in the studio version adds this great sense of progression, and the accentuation lent by the brass section contributes to a great atmosphere
+Robin Clark Tbh as a musician myself I just really started respecting her style and wanted to play/make music like hers. That and I realized one day I'm encouraging the artists who are so reluctant to smile to reinforce negative energy in my life and the other musicians and I was like fuck that shit I'm gonna listen to St. Vincent and Cage the Elephant and Sufjan Stevens
@nmbcfanatic I know it's stupid; but she does it in a few of her songs, like Paris is Burning. It just gives it a certain... I don't know, rustic effect. And it is on purpose. She does it at her concerts as well.
i hope at some point in her career she goes back and explores this style of music/songwriting. i really like actor and strange mercy but there's something so sweet about her first album. annie clark is a godsend to modern music.
Usually the album version is better as it's more polished but something about this one sounds better than the album version , not that the album version is bad
First album is underrated.
totally agree! so good
I agree completely.
Marry Me is definitely her best album imo
@@obliviousgamer7084 Absolutely!
So underrated. I love the influence of older music that you can hear there.
This is a very complex song, and all the parts come together in strange and beautiful way.
All the people who say she can't play clearly haven't listened enough. I personally think she has creativity oozing out of every pore and cavity.
Who said that?
She can play, alright!
Fuck m8 that's gross
Someone said in the comments, “ who said?”. A bunch of people’s say she is a hack. Far from it.
I honestly cant see how anybody could say Annie is anything short of an epic guitar player.
she's got an awesome jazzy voice that goes perfectly with the jazzy guitar chords
+Ana5555551
I think is more Blues then Jazz. But everyone feels, hears and understands music different. Jazz to me is Hiromi Uehara s music
sounds like samba
There's definitely a Bossa Nova influence.

This version is waaaay better than the album one but I love both of them because I love everything that Annie Clark does.
agreed...both are great but this better somehow
both are great, but I think the percussion in the studio version adds this great sense of progression, and the accentuation lent by the brass section contributes to a great atmosphere
omg she was already this perfect 10 years ago
Let the critics throw shade. Annie Clark's earned her cred.
James Romanski Kind of strange that none found their way here. Or is it just that this is perfect and they could find no fault with it?
She sings the horn parts?! Love it
what is it about her that makes her so mesmerizing???
phira360 people are like birds who dont know its ok to sing. Annie knows its ok, and has something to sing about :)
@@wolfeman323232 good answer
she good at musics
Damn. Just don't want this one to end. What a gem.
One of her best.
Even better than the album version!
This is so pretty! lovely chord progressions!
love love "your heart is a strange little orange to peel"
I haven't been able to stop just listening to all her stuff over and over, but first album I'll listen to a few times in a row. So perfect
Amazing guitarist and vocalist... heard this on Sirius and looked at who it was and checked out this video.. So cool
This is so chill. Really takes me back to that time.
LYrICs
Romeo, where'd you go?
It's been years and still no sign
But I'm keeping hope alive
Juliet, how you been?
You look like death like you sure could use some rest
From this place human racing and the faces of people who pound at your door
They always want more they want more
Hummingbird, what's the word?
Are you still your mothers child
Or have you found yourself a flower?
Flowerchild, you're still wild
Under a harvest moon can we eat of all the fruits of our youth?
Tell the truth now
Your heart is a strange little orange to peel
What's the deal?
What's the deal?
Mary, dear, how you feel?
Are you lost without your lamb?
You know I think I understand
Little lamb, what's your plan?
Greener pastures in the sky?
It's a shame you want to die know why
Just to find you've been blinded to the
Greenest of pastures they're right here on Earth
For what it's worth you're not the first to break my heart

I LOVE YOU ANNIE CLARK!
Truly Annie Clark is a godess among us mortals.
This video made me realize ive never truly fallen in love until now
This profoundly beautiful song has a decidedly old fashioned sound with the way she plays and sings it.
This session is her best work
Can we eat up all the fruits of our youth?
Tell the truth now.
Your heart is a strange little orange to peel.
What's the deal?
wow this is the best St.Vincent video on youtube. thank you for this video so much ive wanted to figure this guitar out for a long long time :))))
This is great! Makes me think of some of Regina Spektor's quirky piano arrangements
that's a gibson hummingbird. but more importantly, this song was even more beautiful
Paulynn Yong I believe its actually a J-200 :)
J200 oversized body and as far as acoustics go really hard to play. Her fingers must be hellastrong
And she's a human hummingbird, but that's a great guitar too.
She's amazing talented, I love listening to her perform
Lil babbie Annie!!
this has to be the best version of this son she sings.
a perfectly subtle mind and music..
she ate
She's as complex as Joni Mitchell. Mega talent.
She's so bloody amazing.
Annie Clark and Lianne La Havas need to do a song together :D
Slugzz Oh stop! Too much beauty to bear!
"your heart is a strange little orange to peel"...whoa
she so young ❤️
Although I totally respect her as an artist to be able to do what she wants this is what I like
The new stuff just leaves me cold
Masseduction is everything shut up
James Brousseau I agree. Absolutely.
MASSEDUCTION is a masterpiece
My ears are happy!
Zachary Lunte i
how wonderful voice
I love this.
Christ, how I'd love to have her sing and play acoustic to me every night before I go to sleep.
she keeps on impressing me. she reminds me of jimmy page in her versatility.
Anakin before he became Darth Vader.
you're not the first to break my heart...damn
she's got a strong, clear voice. she's a deeply talented musician
Beautiful x
Great!!! Nice changes. Kind of like Doors unplugged.
She should release a jazz album tbh. It would be amazing
guess what
@@rodrigo_rufino_ daddys home isn't really jazz
Awesome acoustic set. True talent!
i love her
I miss her black hair.
Well shes back to black now:)
kind of bolssa nova. I like it!
Well i've gone from marilyn manson to...this. my favourite artists.
+Robin Clark You've come a long way like God damn
+Chris Calamia Good journey. If you want to go on the same journey there's a points failure at Culture Club and delays in the Beautiful South area.

I went from 1990 ies R n B to Japanese Electro, to Dream Theater to Megadeth to St. Vincent.
Yeah seriously.
fancy meeting you here
She is a revelation.
Perfect!
I hear some tricks she picked up from Tuck & Patti on this one.
i noticed that too
Tuck and Patti, her uncle and aunt.
that guitar is beautiful
@nmbcfanatic
I know it's stupid; but she does it in a few of her songs, like Paris is Burning. It just gives it a certain... I don't know, rustic effect. And it is on purpose. She does it at her concerts as well.
What a wonderful talent - and this version sans capo -
@nmbcfanatic
It's supposed to be flat; it's actually detuned to an E half-flat on purpose.
i hope at some point in her career she goes back and explores this style of music/songwriting. i really like actor and strange mercy but there's something so sweet about her first album.
annie clark is a godsend to modern music.
Very cool. Jazzy!
This is so fucking lovely! ❤️
recent commenter!! yay! SHES AMAZING THATS IT!
This puts me in mind of something that might fit on Love's "Forever Changes."

Come back, Annie.
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO…..DONDE ESTABAS ESCONDIDA …….

😍👍 Nice Video
Pretty sure human racing is illegal these days
she's good
wow
Beauty
they were excellent on austin city limits
Anyone that says she’s not a good guitar player doesn’t understand music and probably isn’t a musician
your heart is like a little orange to peel..
wow...
Just a test.
She has admitted to her Joni Mitchell influence and it shows very prominently in this performance.

I do like the effect it adds though. Very Post-Modernist.

Ah. Not the Nik Kershaw song then ;-P
