This just feels too serendipitous not to comment. This video is now 16 years old, the same age Jackson Browne was when he wrote it. It's also how old I was when this video was uploaded. The song is still as chilling as the first time I heard it.
Beautiful
the late 2000's audio quality just brings me so much nostalgia
To say nothing of the video quality: it rather makes a fella wistful for the old days of UA-cam’s earlier times.
@@CountTentacula quit being antisemitic
@@whiteyfisk9769 what on Earth are you talking about? I didn’t say anything remotely antisemitic, and I never would.
I was only saying that I get wistful for the old interface that UA-cam had back in the day, only this and nothing more.
@@whiteyfisk9769 hahahaha 😂nice b8
"Don't confront me with my failures, I have not forgotten them."
Powerful, powerful words. Beautiful and emotional cover of the Jackson Browne song.

Written by a 16 year old... Browne ran deep, early ❤
Chilling to the core
How a 16 year old Jackson Browne was able to comprehend his feelings and write it in a song as moving and grown up/insightful as this is just beyond me....
I know . Late for the Sky is an incredible work of such in depth , reflective and searching songs.
Agreed. Different times back then I suppose.
How he keeps it up is the question...
Would be interesting to know his influences both literary and musical, and some of the experiences which formed him.
I like Jackson Browne, he's cute.
9 years later and she developed, changed her style and is doing brilliant and exiting music and performances but this recording is just so sweet.
Not really style change.
The colours she uses are more.
exciting*
I miss the old st vincent
This should be in the UA-cam hall of fame. 37 now, and was 20 then when I used to ride the train from NJ to drink and see shows constantly in the city. New York will never been the same as it was then. The indie scene was incredible. God bless NY and the mid-late 2000's.
She doesn't look bored she looks tired. That type of exhaustion that can only come from thinking of someone so many times that you can longer show hurt or regret in your face.
13 years later here I am. This is beautiful. Why did youtube waited so long to recommend me this...
Daddy's Home
Look up St. Vincent
I didn't think anyone could sing a sadder version than Nico.
im sure Iron and Wine could
Theres a nice version by a youtuber named giagiggles. Its 8 years old.

Oh my god, her eyes while she sings. This woman is perfection. This is ethereal.
Annie's eyes are so darn expressive, you can tell she was really connecting with the song during this, or just a good faker. Either way beautiful.
that was the most touching performance of this song i've ever seen. this woman is brilliant.
Brilliant. Annie captures the melancholy voice of Nico's beautiful original version, yet adds her own touch, and fine guitar work. A fantastic cover!
aloyisus
It's very basic finger picking !
Avital van Leeuwen
Thank you for the correction, Avital. I honestly had never heard the Browne version, or that he had indeed written the tune. : )
+Avital van Leeuwen Browne wrote the song, but the Nico version predates Browne's by six years. He also played guitar on the Nico version.
Thanks for that addition info,@Brian Shaw
+aloyisus And even more interesting is that Jackson Browne wrote this song at 16! Such incredible insight!
"Please don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them."
@@theiceman6941 "...it's just that I've been losing for so long." also gets me every time.
She stole that,,, don't tell me my failures I already know them,,, not sure for whom,,, but I know heard it before,,,,think Paul weller,,,
I like her though and her music has evolved brilliantly,,,
@@williewilliams4654 You probably didn't think of Two Doves by Dirty Projectors, but try it :)
I'll check them out for sure,,, Jackson brown,,, that's who it was,, 60s singer song writer,,
@@williewilliams4654 ... didn't he play guitar on the Nico version?
This amazing song was written by a 16 year old Jackson Browne in 1967. Beautiful.
Inconceivably good for a 16-year-old, far beyond his age matured words.
Same Jackson Browne who used to beat and abuse women physically? He grew up to be quite the man, didn’t he?
@@krollpeter he grew up to be such a mature man, beating woman around and abusing them, so nice of him right ?
@@lans1531 I divide the artist and his work, and the person. If I do not like the work of artists and scientists who abused their family or did other wrong things, that would eliminate 50 % of the world's culture and knowledge.
@@krollpeter this. Kendrick speaks to some length about this on a leaked track called Prayer. "See, if Daniel Hale was a killer, would you not want a heart?

Love St. V! First time I heard her was a live performance in '07. She was alone and carrying her own equipment to a SXSW show. She was perfect.
I know the original version well and it's classic, but this is really the most authentic, respectful, due-paying, cover that I'm blown away
Actually I know Jackson Browne's version and Nico's version and so I feel entitled to comment on how great this version is.
Why isn't she playing her signature guitar? Oh. This video is from 14 years ago and she's been awesome forever.
"And if I seem to be afraid to live the life that I have made in song, it's just that I've been losing so far."

wow this immediately gave me chills, I love the original but I also appreciate the fragility of this rendition.
makes my heart feel heavy
It's mind blowing watching this then watching her performances today. It's like 2 completely different and extremely talented artists from different worlds.
Shoutout to my 15 yo self who discovered this 10 years ago. It gets so much better and so much worse. I don't know how youtube knew I'd be in the same headspace as last it recommended this all those years ago, but well done, I suppose.
the song to fuel and cure my depression. her eyes tell all.
I'm in love with how sad they are😭❤
That was amazing. That brought be back to the first time I heard These Days in its entirety. There a room in my heart with a door I haven’t opened in a long time. Hearing this twisted the handle and all of these beautiful feelings spilled out. I hope I remember them.
I love this beautiful woman. Omg tears. Too many.
When St. Vincent touches a song it becomes holy
Make an acoustic album pleeeaaassseeee. Such a beautiful voice.
Listened to this version years ago and something called me to search for it again. Lyrics are so pertinent to me right now, Brought me to tears
Gorgeous. A perfect cover of perhaps Jackson Browne's most beautiful song. And that's a long, damn list.

@@BobrLovr you’re so alpha 😳
My gosh- her charisma is just taking over me- such a great person!
She's so beautiful, my god; and not just her face, despite its perfection. It's the way the song just pours out of her in pure emotion, the sense of the person there, the artist.
She's so beautiful. You can really feel the song in her eyes.
Annie is one of those great performers who can cover other people's music and make you fully believe in the story that they are telling you, convincing you that the words that they sing are, in fact...their own words. That's what this rendition did for me when I first heard it 16 years ago and it's the way I still feel today. As beautiful and stylish as Nico's version was, I never honestly thought that it was her experience she was relating to us.
There is such sincerity in her eyes.
Man, to hear a song like this, sung in this way; It's almost too much to bear. It's beauty overload!
I listened to this 10 times in a row. Just amazing...
I never tire of this!
Just visit it again every once in a while.
Best cover for the Jackson browne classic, and I love the intensity of the performance
What a voice...
I'm not crying, you are!
She's simply mesmerizing in every way
This woman! I could listen to her all day. And this song, so beautiful. JB just put his heart out there. Then Greg, Nico and now Annie.
Most beautiful singer in the world
You can tell they’re feeling so emotions as she sings, you can see it in their eyes. It was inspired.
Always coming back to this.
Thank you Annie,... It is a comfort to know you exist in this, and all possible universes. A treasured comfort. Rock on!
My favorite cover of this song.
Is, was and will be the greatest cover of this song forever
Beautiful song and rendition for these days 2020
There are no words to describe certain emotions, music is the only thing that can truly reflect them. Just look in her eyes and let the music do the rest
Annie this is truly a side of you that I absolutely enjoy the purity of your sound.
I have never, ever seen a singer put her soul so much into one song.
She's just lovely.
Sublime. And thank you, Jackson Browne, for writing such a heartbreaking and beautiful song.
So, it’s 2022 now and I’ve been a shamelessly devoted fan since I first saw this video, probably soon after it was first posted. I still like most of her stuff, but Marry Me is still my favorite of her albums for some reason.
I listen to her version at least once a week. Beautiful song and version by Annie
Sometimes I watch this video when I want to sob quietly in peace.
I go to the beach for that, down on the rocks alone :)
Haley, I'm right there with you!
omg, she is incredibly.
nico was amazing in her own right, but St. Vincent has made this song and Nico take on a whole new view.
wow, I'm totally impressed.
my heart is melting
What a truly incredible, talented, and captivating artist.
It's like a self hug 😢❤️
her style is moving. the way she sings. the way she plays. her eyes. she moves me. beautiful
Great song and great cover!
I watched this video nine years ago and loved it, it just returned today like an old friend. Praise the UA-cam algorithm gods!
I love all of her music but in my mind this performance bolsters her from amazing to legendary
In my opinion, this is the best version of the song by any artist. Crystal clear vocal clarity. Love you Annie xoxo
UA-cam covers of the covers she does and you can find many people doing much better covers .
She often sings off pitch , you can't hear that ?
Actually, I think the main thing you like about her is her looks and that clouds your judgement on everything else ! Don't be so shallow !
larry scheller When is she off pitch??? This song is awesome.
Tom Tarn
She's off pitch in bar 2 bar 5 bar 7 bar 10 put on your ears .................It is a great Jackson Brown song but one of the worst covers of it I've heard . All her covers would get most musicians laughed off stage !
TOM TOM do you even know the difference between off pitch and off key ?
larry scheller
Seriously, why reply to all these comments saying how bad she is? She clearly appeals to everyone praising her in the comments so you replying to them 'educating' isn't going to magically change their opinion. If you're trolling to be deliberately annoying then you succeeded. If not then wow. She has a lovely, mellow voice in my opinion. And who cares what the difference is between off pitch and off key? Music theory is irrelevant when discussing personal taste. Also imperfections in pitch are human and can add to the music. Look at Morrissey! When does he ever sing in tune? And yet The Smiths are legendary. Anyway, you get the point.
larry scheller
If you are searching for imperfection try the Nico version.
Holy shit, how did I never see this video
This is so old, wasn't youtube only two years old when this video got posted?
Peter Crinklaw yup
This is by far my favorite version of this song. Far better than any other cover I have heard and I honestly even prefer this over Nico or Jackson. Annie just brings a level of vulnerability to these lyrics that no one else can I think.
Once again I watch a st. Vincent video and go to the comments and see Larry bashing Annie's guitar skills and anyone who thinks she's great.
This was amazing btw.
she performed this so beautifully, i have fallen in love with listening to it
I come back to this video every now and then and every time I do I'm just blown away
I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking these days
These days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had
A chance to
I've stopped my rambling
I don't do too much gambling these days
These days
These days I seem to think about
How all these changes came about my ways
And I wonder if I'd see another
Highway
I had a lover
I don't think I'd risk another these days
These days
And if I seem to be afraid
To live the life that I have made in song
It's just that I've been losing
So long
La, la, la, la, la
La, la
I've stopped my dreaming
I won't do too much scheming these days
These days
These days I sit on cornerstones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten
Please don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them
Written by Jackson Browne when he was 16. Astounding.
thank you so much annie.
Oh God. This makes me so nostalgic for the late 2000s. Oh man... Very bittersweet. But great performance!
I need to write a song about those eyes
I'm still so sad she wore sunglasses to her Tiny Desk Concert. :(
She is just so great.
Interesting interpretation. Sounds very nice.
Big thanks to St.Vincent to create this beautiful interpretation !! Love it.
She just cuts me open and exposes everything.
It is both unsettling and cathartic.
That was beautiful :) Thank you for existing and sharing your talent. Cheers!
Human. So very human.
Her voice is so pure and unique sounding, I love it. And this version of the song is played so well (better live, than recorded)!
This cover screams Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah. So delicate and emotive. Sensational, thank you for this.
wow, this could quite well be the single most powerful performance of a song that I have ever seen.
beautiful.
Sadly you aren't judging her on her incredible vocals aand guitar. Her gift is her true beauty.I love this cover.
I wish this version were on Spotify for I do enjoy it. Makes me think of cool crisp autumn days 🍂🍁
you guys don't understand she doesn't look distenterested
she's just looking so far away, remembering how she felt while listening to this song
She is a true saint
I like st. vincent!
I’ve seen St Vincent live in Camden, but this is something else, what a amazing cover!
Although in my view the best cover of this song is Elliot's Smith, this version is so beautiful, it has really touched my hear, great talent.
this is..so peaceful...*smiles faintly* this song blew me up to the clouds above...love songs like that...makes me forget about a stressful day...:)
Beautiful..Who the fuck could give a thumbs down for this ???
a dumb fuck would thumb it down
I guess if you just don't get music and the creative process you might not like this song.
She is such an angel
Please put the recorded version of this song on Spotify :) Amazing version
Just record this version using a YT video converter.
larry scheller Are you normal? She´s great. If you do your own cover and if it is better than her, than you will say this shits. Jsi to ale blbeček.
larry scheller Hi, I am not American and i am not very good in Englisch, so sorry for my gramatic mistakes. Everybody has an opinion, you too and i accept it but I too. It isn´t about dooing videos but it is about effort to do someting. I have good advice for you. If you don´t like this cover singer, yes, you can say your opinion but other people can have different opinion, so accept it and donť make them bad mood from your bad and hateful notes. I see it under every sing from St. Vincent, nobody is curios on you. WHY do you listen her when you think she is horrible? If you don´t like this singer, DON´T LISTEN HER SONGS and make other people sick from you. Do something useful. That´s all I say to you.
As sad as this song is, she makes me feel as if I'm laying on a soft blanket. So beautiful

in this case, the question is - is it possible not to?
Is there some other way? Windows to the soul and whatnot
no, not possible, why?
Ha, very nice. Amazing everything to enjoy in this cover of These Days.
Beautiful Musician🙂
Makes me feel how i destroyed myself for 10 straight years abd come full circle and now have peace inside...:-)
How do you feel now, 7 years later?
@@abraham.c.howard Probably pretty bad because having actual peace inside rarely compels one to make a youtube comment about it.
People attempting to fool themselves however will go out of their way to tell strangers about how well it's going.
@@GreyMatterPlatter Sometimes people just like to shoot their story out their into the world, it's not always a sign of lying. People can communicate what they want to. A youtube comment can be like sharing your story or message with the abstract idea of the world. It can be pretty beautiful. People just naturally love to express. We'll never know 100% what was felt behind the screen, but that's no reason to be immediately skeptical.
