My wife and I have started living this way back in April. Over the past 6 months, we have been slow travel nomads moving throughout the Balkans and now in southeast Asia. I'll say this now with absolute sincerity. At age 44, I am FINALLY living the life I was always meant to live and have never been happier. THIS is truly living. Thank you for your content. More people NEED to be reminded of what is important in life, and what just doesn't matter. You get this one life, live it well and how you want to. Not what the governments or rat race dictates to us all.
I really love the idea of this but in reality it just would never work for me. I have stayed in some of the nicest places and it's still not home. I love coming back to my special place on this earth that I can call my own.
Im intentionally homeless as well. I had tons of problems with Air b nb in Tanzania and Zambia. Since then, I just stay in hotels. They give me reduced rates, always have stable electricity and Wifi. Its a bit more expensive, but the peace of mind is worth it
Thank you for your wonderful content! I also want to share that my husband and I decided 2 years ago to take a sabbatical, and then we decided to retire and leave nomadic life. We are both paediatricians, but I'm also an entrepreneur and creator so I really enjoy being able to create everywhere. My husband is a bit older he's turning 67, and I'm turning 60, so he's just enjoying doing what he wants and not having to work. I really feel that this life, simple, minimalist, mindfulne nomadic - are a present to people who can trust themselves and the universe, and are bledded to have good marriage. And now we are staying in Frankfurt Germany, visiting our youngest son, thank you for the inspiration 🙏🙏🙏
I think we all romanticise travel. Reality is life goes with you wherever you go. I am limited with travel these days due to chronic illness but I really want to minimise my belongings to free myself up a little. Inspired by your courage to let go and simplify your life. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed this video.
Connie, thank you so much for sharing with us! It is wonderful to hear your story and to meet your husband. You have both been our inspiration and we are taking it a month at a time. We sold our family home in March, sold 85% of our stuff, donated and gave furniture to our three kids’ homes. We love apartment life now, after 36 years of owning 3 different homes, and your encouragement helped so much! Baby steps for us… and it is wonderful as we plan more travel and still have plenty of family and grandchild time❤now. This is for now and we love now! It is so nice to find a like minded “tribe” on your channel. All the best always! Love your content.
Hey Elizabeth! Wow! Sold the family home and started a new chapter together. I'm glad I could offer a bit of encouragement. Every change is completed the same way, with baby steps. Enjoy your new apartment😊
Hi Joel and Connie, it's funny you say that, I always wanted to live on the Central Coast NSW near the beaches near my mum and dad. Mum and dad used to say "it's not the romantic lifestyle you think it is, when you are here on holiday, it is a relax, however when you live here permanently, you still need to work, still need to do your housework, still need to mow your lawn and do your washing." So we continue to have a caravan and travel regularly there when we can. Love Jo in Australia :))
I have just retired and moved from a 3 bedroom house into a motor home. It’s not a be rv expander like you see in America, it is a Mercedes Sprinter, the size of an ambulance, just enough for me and my 13 year old wolfador dog. I have a memory box and I have given my children their childhood books etc. and I have given the local historical society a few large things I can’t keep in my motor home and my children do want. It has only been 4 months and we have not gone far, we are waiting on a few items to get done on the van next month and then we are off . 🤭 so freeing, scary also , but I’m enjoying the short trips we have , free off grid camping five days a week and two days with mains power to do the washing at a laundry mat, go shopping, have a long shower, and charge the van’s batteries.
I would love for you to do a video about booking your travel and picking where you will stay. As someone that has not traveled much I would love ideas on how to find flights and places to stay! Love your videos and great to hear both your perspectives on your lifestyle
Thank you Connie for sharing with us today with Joel. Listening to you both made me feel that when I dream of something for my future that maybe it’s possible. I’m 65 and retired and my husband still works at age 66. I would absolutely love and dream of a quieter and slower pace to our lives. It is so fast paced now that all I see to go on a few messages in my day is traffic and everyone seems in such a hurry. Listening to you guys helps make a change sound like it can be done. So thank you again for sharing and as always I look forward to your next video….Lisa 🤗🙏💓
It's so weird, but when you showed your empty house, another minimalist had that exact home with the stairsin her video after she supposedly sold EVERYTHING.
I seriously admire your courage to do what you do!!!!...I love your video Connie & your calm fresh approach to life it is so comforting and gives us hope to strive for peacefulness!!!!..nice to meet your Husband Joel...youre both very lovely.....I look forward to seeing where you go to next!!! thank you for sharing your lives with us all out here!!!!!!...from Margaret in South Australia!!!!!

You both had everything planned out because everything begins with a plan. I follow your channel cux I admire your lifestyle n I hope to live like this sometimes in the future. It's such a stress free life. Living d life you want, having fun n still making money while at it. So amazing

Thank you for a very heart felt honest video 💗 good to have Joel give his perspective 👍🏻 keep doing what you are doing and sharing here, it’s great 🌿♥️
Thank you for sharing! My husband & I have recently downsized for the purpose of more travel. I’m wondering if you do all the “touristy” things, go on “touristy” excursions & tours? Do you read travel books? (We depend mostly on Rick Steves.) How much to you eat out @ restaurants? Thank you very much!
I always think of the phrase: wherever you go, there you are! We take ourselves with us with all our flaws & good sides. I imagine living like this requires a certain amount of flexibility & patience! I would love to learn how you choose an air BNB? Do you require a certain amount of space so that you can both work? Or does one of you go work in a coffee shop or library? How much space do you need so you don’t drive each other crazy.
Such a great video Connie and Joel. I feel like I know you so we're on a first -name basis now. I've been watching a while and today is our moving day. This is another down-sizing move for us and it s exciting. We've planned for months now and are ready. All the best.
"stronger belief in humanity" from traveling- profound statement! But, Connie- do you find that being a you-tuber is an invasion of your privacy? Nice to see your husband as well and to hear his perspective on your lifestyle. I think that whatever life we choose will have its pros and cons. I dream of having a more exciting life and maybe travelling but I'm not sure I would have the courage to do what you're doing. I think it really helps that you're doing this together and that you're in a loving relationship. For now, I'm exploring the world through your vlogs and imagining that I'm there as well. Your kids have turned into great human beings, you must be so proud of them. Again, a good marriage always helps! Take care and please continue posting, I look forward to your vlogs. ❤🌹

What a great video, thank you so much for the real talk. I'd love to be able to live a similar lifestyle, at least for a certrain time every year be in the south of Europe during the winter and back in Norway during summer. Right now I have older animals, but I am already planing for the time when they are no longer with us (sounds terrible, I know...) I Just dream of being free and I know it will happen in the nearer future. Keep up the fantastic work.
Good question! We see dentists every 6 months, in whichever country we happen to be in. We have international health insurance for catastrophic events. But, we pay cash for any doctor visits and medicine. Health care is more affordable in other countries outside the USA. Example, I had an emergency visit at a hospital in Montenegro. The total cost was $170 for IV, two specialists, and many tests. We have savings for medical and other unforeseen expenses.
@@ConnieRiet Thank- you Connie, That’s so interesting, I can understand now how you organise the appropriate health/ emergency care etc when you need it. I wasn’t sure how this could be done as a nomadic person. In England you can become a temporary resident ie for a GP, we also have the NHS and private health care. NHS dentists are very hard to find, but if people go privately for dentists that’s ok. It’s interesting how each county differs regarding this sort of care !! Imo It’s always good to have some sort of an emergency fund or plan, hopefully we don’t have to use it, but it’s a comfort to know there’s a back up if we need it. We decided a while ago not to waste money any more on stuff we really didn’t need, and this helped us save money. Sorry to hear you had an emergency re health, but hopefully all ok again now. I find your information so helpful and interesting, and I enjoy following your guidance and ideas, I’ve found it very useful in simplifying my life style and enjoying life intentionally. It’s great how you make the nomadic life work for you both 👍🤗
I developed a blood clotting during a flight to Ecuador. The total cost for 2 venous ultrasounds performed by a US trained MD and 7 days of lovanox injections was $120.00 total. I received excellent care in a beautiful modern hospital. Once you've actually experienced medical care outside the US, you see our system differently.
We live a simple, debt free life. I enjoy these videos. I am curious, though..there is great value in friendships, and I'm wondering about feeling void of deep friendship by traveling so much? What about the ability to continue to play/practice and instrument, such as piano, or another? It seems that traveling extremely light is possible. But some really valuable things in life would have to be deleted in order to rid one's self of possessions and interests...
I loved this and listening to you two talk with one another on camera. I love that you enjoyed coffee in Paris. I want to one day go to France and have their hot chocolate! Is it hard to be so far away from your daughter who lives in Europe? I can totally understand how it would be isolating to not have communication with others in a country you don't know the language of. I am a sociable person and that would be hard for me very much so, while nice for my husband haha. Loved your insights! I have never been out of the US and this was fun to learn from you.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Because my three children live on different continents, it's impossible to be with all of them at the same time. No matter which kid we visit we are away from two others. Yes, we miss them terribly when we are apart. Hot chocolate in France is delicious, but my favorite is hot chocolate in Belgium.😋
Yes, we are both happy. Regardless of the ups and downs that any lifestyle has, we try to enjoy the present experience. We will continue living nomadically until we choose something different. We have not made any plans to stop, yet.
I had initially planned to retire at 62, work part-time, and save money, but the impact of high prices on various goods and services has significantly disrupted my retirement plan. I'm worried about whether those who experienced the 2008 financial crisis had it easier than I currently am. The volatility of the stock market is a concern as my income has decreased, and I fear that I won't be able to contribute as much as before, potentially jeopardizing my retirement savings.
The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

Enjoyed the video, thank you.

I would love to see what you have packed for your travels as a minimalist! Great video!

Great story. Thank you for sharing.
This was the first time that I have watched your video having a coffee, it was interesting and enjoyable, thx 🙏
This was such an honest and wise episode. I so agree with your priorities of spending time with family being so important. Change can happen at any time beyond our control so mindful living with those you love and showing kindness to those you meet makes for a meaningful, joy filled life. God Bless the Both of you and thanks for sharing !
This was wonderful insight into your lifestyle ❤

Love the home ur in now. It looks cute and cozy yet minimal
I think so too!
Good video! Questions: how do you handle finances/money while going from area to area? What about healthcare?
I'd love to get some specifics.
You can actually do longer term travel insurance which comes out to be very affordable compared to U.S. rates.
@@gmac1384 I'm in the UK - can I have a link to this? Our travel insurance industry is really bad at age and duration of travel.
So does your camera set up fit in the suitcase with everything else?
How did you get rid of your things
Hi Connie, thanks for another lovely video. I saw the what you're wearing links in the notes - what about your sandshoes?
Thanks for keeping it real
😀

I find your information so helpful and interesting, and I enjoy following your guidance and ideas, I’ve found it very useful in simplifying my life style
and enjoying life intentionally.
Lovely video. ❤
Soo inspiring!
Are you both happy and will you continue to live a nomadic lifestyle and for how long?
Yes, we are both happy. Regardless of the ups and downs that any lifestyle has, we try to enjoy the present experience. We will continue living nomadically until we choose something different. We have not made any plans to stop, yet.
Great couple in a great video!
Enjoyed the video
This was great. Which place that your kids live in is your favorite? I've heard good things about Costa Rica. Europe is amazing too.
Do you find it difficult working at the American pace but living in a slower paced environment?
Good question!
Loved this video!!
Does your whole family ever get together?
how’s everything going?-you shared incredible ~;))
Wow!

Mind if I ask you to recommend this particular coach to you using their service?

The world is a safe place. I love that
“I own nothing”? Really? What’s the white shirt you are wearing, the ring on your finger, the shoes you have on? You don't own those?
The world is a safe place? Maybe you need to travel out of your cocoon
Yes, sadly no longer safe. Wars, torturing, murdering of babies, immigrants and Haitians coming over...to name a few...
What you believe you create it for yourself!
Really enjoyed this Connie. Thanks a lot. 🦚🦚🦚American Grace now in India 🦚🦚🦚
