I really like how it actually forces you to explore all of the facets of each faction. I've almost completed the Delhi Sultanate mastery (and finally moving up to Very Hard AI, afterwhich I'll finally drop into multiplayer to get rekt). Then off to the Abbasids and the Mongols, and maybe the Chinese. Such a great game, and a great video!
Damn dude! Thank you for this video! I was wasting SO MUCH TIME trying to win all the games fair and square. I assumed you needed to win to get the mastery, but knowing I can just surrender after hitting whatever goal is very nice!

If you follow the mastery up to that point, you should be good to go! :) you'll only get better with each failure! The AI DOES come at you hard n fast but if you can beat the pervious one, you definitely have the aptitude to beat the next hardest
You actually can cheese the "Protecting the Sword" Mastery. Just build a bunch of Scouts after you get the tech (It is Landmark building specific so be careful about that.) and put them inside the AOE of the Mosques and then Delete them. The reason why is cause it wont kill them, it reduces there HP to 1 and then they regen, just do this a couple of times till your sure and it should work.
Unpopular opinion, but I like that you have to do them in order. While on the surface they look like just a bunch of random challenges you can do for cosmetics, I actually see them as an extension of the Tutorial and Art of War. They are basically civ specific tutorials. If you look at the order that it has you do things, they all start with the basic fundamental mechanics of each civ and then progressively move on through more advanced technologies or unit focuses. If you actually play through them in order, without cheesing them, then by the end, you have a minimum of 15 completed matches under your belt with the civ of your choice and a more solid understanding of how their mechanics function. I was kind of miffed that you had to play through them in order at first, as well, until I saw how much more I understood a civ from playing through the successive objectives, focusing on small, easily digestible parts of a civ and using what I learned from the previous mastery on the current. So far, I've finished out the Mastery for the English, French, HRE, Chinese and I'm currently about four challenges away from completing Delhi Sultanate. Honestly, playing through each match to finish and completing the challenges in a live match does take many, many hours of play time to finish out, but it really does help lock down a civ and learn the ins and outs!
Yeah the way they are artificially locked behind each other makes it perfectly fine to cheese 'em. If people were to mind these things much in multiplayer games then the experience of those games could suffer. Something that a well designed unlock system shouldn't do.
I've been playing the Abbasid mastery and finished it, and i actually think it gives better insight in how diverse the civilization is and how you can play it. For example one of the later masteries is 'heal 3000 health with Medical centers' which is a tech for your keeps to heal your units. So in a game you end up raiding your enemy often for example with light cav stalking enemy villagers. Or pulling back an army thats nearing defeat. And you let them all heal up at a nearby fort. So you won't even need imams which cost pop. This was a great example why i love going through those masteries :)
I'm new to Age of Empires. I've got nearly 100 hours in No. IV after only one month. As a fan of different civilizations, cultures, history, and strategy games I can't get enough. The Masteries are a very nice challenge.
You can more or less cheese the test of strength by choosing high resources, starting age iv, disabling sacred victory and changing the map setup to warring isles and gigantic size, then as soon as the game starts, you start building a wonder (preferably away from the sea), and then defend it. Because of the size of the map, it'll take time for the AI to attack you, and then it'll have to transport troops. So unless you get a very aggressive AI (at test of strength iv), you're safe(ish).
Thanks for the great video! But I have a problem. I'm trying to play through the Mongols and hang on the penultimate task. There I should develop the "Shia bow parts (improved)" and then kill 40 enemy units with the Magudai and then still win with a world wonder. I have really tried many times and also reintheoretically managed but it does not count. What am I doing wrong?
Hmm. So. I'd set the AI to easy, hard tech to mangudai with improved Shia bows, and then make a massive horde of them, killing as many villagers and what have you. I have not tested this, but I'm almost positive the game counts sheep and deer as kills based off of how the game reacts to warrior monks killing sheep to trigger their buff. So that definitely might be worth a try... Then, just make a wonder and turtle up! The easy AI should allow you to just keep pressure on them and prevent them from mounting a real offensive. Basically kill them down to near nothing, let them re grow, rinse and repeat
The big one I'm currently stuck on is the Abbasid's 10th Mastery task, which requires you to heal 3000 health on friendly units using the medical centers upgrade they can get for their Keeps. I think I would find it a lot less frustrating if there was at least a progress bar on the task for how close I was to it, but for now it seems I just have to hope a game lines up in such a way that I happen to use my keeps' healing a lot. ...maybe I could load up an easy AI skirmish, and just run my units back and forth from an enemy defensive building and my Keep until they've been healed for several times their max health?
@@italianspartacus Update: That worked! I think Camel Riders worked out better than Lancers for this since they have more HP and less armour, so you can get more value out of them with each rotation with less risk of losing them. An upgrade can make them faster than other cavalry, too.
Hey so I'm brand new to RTS games. I've been playing aoe4 for a few days now and love it. My question is. Or maybe you could do a video guide on useful hot keys. I see players who are able to build a mill and wheat automatically spawns around it where I have to click on the individual tiles to plant it. Or a player can click and build like 6 houses all at once where I have to do it all individually. This game is incredibly but I'm struggling with all the key binds. Thanks and love your videos!
Select you Villagers with wich you want to build farms, select the farm and Shift + left click ON the mill as many times as you want. Same with other buildings, just Shift + left click. It basically builds stuff where there is space for it. So Hotkey wise it would be: select vills > Q - A (for farms) > Shift + Left Click on Mill. Or for Houses Q- Q and just Shift + Left Click away.
Maybe a stupid question, but the 4th mastery in Rus is build 25 fortified palisade walls. It wont complete.. I build like 100 but still it wont complete. Maybe i have to win the game ?
Hey I.S.! The one I'm having problems with is the one where you have to kill 20 units with the upgraded Trebuchets for the English. They take so long to fire, and I just can't hit enough units to complete this thing. Any ideas?
Hmm that's a tricky one, I'd just SPAM a shit ton of Trebs and use Men at arms in defensive stance to absorb the charges of your enemy? also you can use them on villagers, that might be your best bet
@@italianspartacus Thanks for the prompt response, mate. The issue I'm running into is that when the projectiles hit the ground, the units I was attacking are generally no longer there. I've been able to hit a few, but especially villagers are almost impossible to hit because they every so often move to drop off resources. I've thought about building a wall around the enemy army to sort of keep it in place so the blasted things can actually hit, but so far I've had no luck. Thanks anyway!
Any one else having problems completing masteries from a saved game? I think I did not get credits towards masteries if I have interrupted a game and continued later to complete the mastery. Maybe intentional so you can not do several masteries within one game (loading before you win/loose) but this kinda sucks aswell because some can realy take you some time if you want to make sure to have it done (and there is no way to check something like x HP healed with a certain unit/castle or so)
I'm having trouble doing the Abbasid mastery "Support the Strong" - Defeat 30 enemy units with Infantry who are receiving support from Camels. I've killed TONS of enemies with a mixed camel/infantry group and I don't receive the achievement. Any thoughts?
I had my masteries completely reset a few days ago, kinda sucked, makes me contemplate wanting to do them again just for them to reset again. Anyone else have this problem?

im trying to figure this out. I feel like maybe if you do a custom sacred match and cover the closest sacred spot, then build your white tower, build a wall, you should be good. any different tips? trying to do this now and im afking the game waiting for opponent lol

@@KT72275 I recommend playing vs Intermediate because Easy wont make many units. Also, I'm pretty sure you need a Landmarks victory for this?

That's actually your best bet I think. Get some knights, take damage, run away. If you let the easy AI really grow they'll get big fast

You need to actually research the "Camel Support" technology in the Military Wing of the House Wisdom.

@@MrTroPiczZ took me two games as well till i found the resource icons on the trader and the little left right mechanic for on and off.
This is a really clunky mechanic in my opinion. It doesn't seem naturally integrated with the actual gameplay loop.
/facepalm. Defeat a Hard AI in Skirmish or Custom as RUS. I did and got no credit. Bugged.
