I mean, every big name studio gets smothered in 9/10 or 10/10 reviews. Otherwise the reviewer/review site runs the risk of not being invited to preview future major titles from the studio. A flagship title basically has to be universally scorned for reviewers to hint at even the slightest thing wrong with it.

@@Nadrieth at least the only reason cyberpunk failed is because of the company who checked the game for bugs, and not the developers. They sent unexperienced Testers instead of like +5 years people which obviously was a mistake and they still put "Cyberpunk" on their website to show that they tested it for bugs even though they did a fucking shit job.

What loading screens? I didn't even play because the optimization was so garbage without DLSS and even now that it's out it's barely playable framerate. Empty world empty game.

The best part of this is that Bethesda even stole the release date of BG3 when they suddenly announced it for Starfield. Larian, thinking they had no chance competing with a Bethesda game, were forced to release BG3 full month ahead of schedule! To the detriment of some debugging.
Both Bethesda and Larian originally thought that Starfield had BG3 in its pocket. Looking at Todd's smile knowing this context makes it all the more enjoyable.

Just a reminder, Todd tries to copy No Man's Sky, and in the TGA, Sean Murray, showed the next game of Hello Games wich would be a FANTASY world called, Light No Fire... it has some pretty solid Skyrim vibes in it, but with the DNA of NMS in it.
I'm more confident that Hello Games can deliver a better ES6 than Todd with this game.
If the Elder Scroll still use the same Creation engine? Bet it will be another midfield.
Pretty sure the game he's always wanted to make is called Star Citizen, but the game he actually made was Starfield.

BG3 is the game I was hoping Starfield was going to be.
Starfield is corporate, shallow and cold.
BG3 is lively colorful and bursting with character.
You can easily tell that BG3 was made with so much love, care and respect.
I mean I don’t think Starfield is bad, but it’s the only Bethesda game that I didn’t finish.
The main story was worth finishing, the first half of it is horrible radiant missions, the last half of it is actually pretty good for the most part.
Pretty much all of the side quests suck though, and the factions weren't really that great either. UC Vanguard was cool...I think I'd have preferred it to be the main questline though, aesthetics, combat, areas, etc. by far one of the better designed ones, but far too short.
The Pirates and Free Star aren't even worth mentioning, I quit before I got to the point of the corporate one. That whole planet feels like a discount block of Cyberpunk 2077, literally a single block of the city.
I'd play BG3 if it wasn't so woke/globohomo infused. Like I don't want all that weird shit in my RPG experience like gay guys trying to f you and ppl banging bears. It's just disgusting. Like when I think of medieval fantasy that crap is the absolute last that'd come to mind.

Not saying Starfield is great, but anybody who actually cares about video games beyond "MUH DLC SUCKZ" would not endorse BG3.
You were partially right. The reason why people gave it such a high rating is because the people that do ratings get paid for those ratings and Bethesda pays good. It's just a marketing tool that large companies can manipulate to generate hype and we all know it.
Game Journalists aren't real gamers. They most fall in the category of politics and greedy business.
I don't think they directly pay, I think it's just a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" situation. The most obvious thing is that if you give a big studio a 10/10, they're going to put your company in all their marketing materials when they showcase all the accolades, so you get free awareness/publicity for your journalist org. Secondly, I think these studios are more friendly to journalist orgs that rate them highly. Maybe they leak them info early, or give them exclusive early access, etc.
@RealEllenDeGeneres From what I understand the early access is the big thing. Reviewers are pushed to get out reviews before release so buyers will read them before they buy. So they need early access or they'll be ignored in favor of those that get it. But if you're a gaming company, who are you giving it to? The honest website that will call you out and give a not perfect or near perfect rating, or the sell out who'll give it to you without second thought? I know which I'd pick if I was a soulless corporation. Which means if I was a journalist working for a website who wanted to keep his job reviewing games, I'd need to sell out too or they'll find someone who will. Sure I have no integrity, but I can pay rent. I don't like the practice because it defeats the point of a review, but it is easy to forget individual reviewers hold very little power and basically need to kiss the ring to do their job.

Most of the ratings surprisingly dont even come from gamers... not even gaming journalists but just straight random ass journalist agencies that have nothing in the gaming industry at all.

No Man's Sky was actually better. Which is just crazy to say that looking back on their launch. But there is no saving Starfield. While No Man's Sky was designed to be good and rushed out the door, Starfield was designed to be mid and saturated with money and time uselessly.
Ironicaly, Hello Games launch the trailer for their own fantasy game, that have a lot of Skyrim vibes in it, with dragons, and antropomophic creatures like Bunny / rabbits, and badgers.

@@brotbrotsen1100 I'm pretty sure it goes at least as far back as TES: Oblivion; anyone who's played a Bethesda game in the last 20 years can see that engine's quirks and capabilities. Apparently it's been tweaked over the years, but it's still basically the same engine, which is why Bethesda games have been jank ever since and why the handful of games that were good, like New Vegas, were made by outside groups.
Unfortunately, the fact that they haven't felt the need to create a new engine in the last 20 years speaks to their ethos as a company: they've long since believed their own lies and delusions, they think they can perpetually rest on their laurels, and it's us peasants that are the reason things fail. So long as Todd Howard remains in control, there is no chance the company can grow or change, but unfortunately the fact that Howard's been in charge this long means he's a "I'll burn this place down before I let someone else be in charge" mentality.

So they've been using the same engine since they started work on Morrowind which came out in 2002. The engine they've been using dates back to 1997 and is now 27 years old.
And Armoured Core 6 won the lone category it was nominated for.
They nerfed fromsoft this round.

When I was working for a resource mega corp, my supervisor asked how long a job would take, alittle more than two hours if it comes out easy, 8-12 hours if every part is fucked so tell em 8 hours. Every step of this job was rusted together, seized and cables were F'd or had to be replaced, riggers, fitters, boilies and lecies are crawling all over this thing. More than 8 hours later we're returning from the job and reporting to the supervisor, he says he put his nut on the line and we f'd him... We were like WTF are you talking about?
9 hours ago, HE TOLD the maintenance superintendent 2 hours, so they scheduled production around 2 hours of downtime and didn't send equipment to other pits etc, so they just sat there waiting all shift. From that moment onward, every single quote I or anyone else on that crew gave for breakdowns, it was twice as long as the worst case scenario.

These companies are launching games way sooner than they should ever dare to, these dumb F investors are pushing for early releases, and left with their nuts on the chopping block, and I bet they're blaming everyone else but themselves.

Problem is everything must go through the creative director Chess grandmaster Todd Howard, but when said creative director says your hard work will just get modded over, no one wants to do best or add anything innovative. I think a large part of Starfield is it was supposed to be a Modder's platform or foundation, but the problem here is you need a game people _want_ to come back to and play and mod.
Imagine this being his villain arc and Elder Scrolls 6 releases phenomenally and winning game of the year in 2029.

Baldur's Gate 3 won so many awards because its all voted by us. Larian did a tremendous job with the game (i havent played it yet but it looks so fun as hell) and i hope the bigger companies can look at this and actually make amazingly fun games again instead of making mediocre ones with giant macrotransactions....its not going to happen but i can dream
I just hope Larian looks into other types of games to make and even if smaller in scale make a few other gems of just pure delivered player fun. So that they nut punch more AAA and AA studios.

@@nebky I'm not a fan of telling a company not to try a new IP. Even if it fails. The biggest problem Starfield has is they didnt keep up with the times. No Man's Sky has been out for 10 years. They could have taken time out 5 years ago to see how they were doing things over there and possibly made some changes.

I liked Starfield, and enjoyed my time with it. About 140 hours. Did it deserve any of these awards? No.
The funniest part is the planet settlement system. An independent modder Kinggaff literally made them a blueprint how to enchance the syatem with Sim Settlement 2, and Bethesda couldn't even copy paste that idea

A perfect score is a perfect game. And there are too many obvious issues that this can't be a perfect score by default.
I remember how everyone hated the critics who gave Starfield less than 90%, some even less than 80%.

I played the game atleast once doing all the missions and that took about 150hours for me. Got my moneys worth but have no desire to play it soon. Waiting for more mods.
Yeah I don't think it's that bad of a game, it isn't the best game and it isn't what I excepted but the gunplay is awesome the ship building is cool, the settlement system is fun, exploring can be cool, I think the game is more for daggerfall and oblivion fans more than skyrim fans, when skyrim came out I was pissed and hated it, because it was nothing like the games from Bethesda I grew up with but it grew on me and I ended up loving it.

Always look at critic and audience scores. That's where you'll get the truth.
Moreso the audience score. Everyday people who spend their hard-earned money on something are going to be more honest.
Audience? Yes. Critic? Not really unless you can trust them to be unbiased as they've often reviewed for cash or a dev game key.

Also this award description says that : "Awarded to a game for outstanding development of ongoing content that evolves the player experience over time." Honestly with that description i will give the awards in Fortnite or maybe from lust to Genshin Impact.
