  • Add "&fmt=18" for the high-resolution version. Pat really killed me with the Danny Thomas joke and the Ernest Borgnine joke.

Ben, I visited your sweet Dad when he was in the Motion Picture facility.,
I think he knew who I was and I know how much he loved you.

There have been a ton of guests on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast with terrific stories about your dad. I first knew him as the plumbing salesman in "History of the World: Part 1" and of course, "Smokey & The Bandit," but watching him riff as a guest on talk shows like this is the best.

Dude. Thank you for your comment. You need to understand there is an entire generation, after about 3 or 4 more generations, that have unearthed his talent and his character and his ineffable qualities as a comic and writer. There is an entire regeneration of awareness of historic Hollywood because of modern Hollywood writers understanding the need for callbacks and creation of legacy and understanding of the talent that got them to where they are.
I think your dad was probably about 20 to 40 years ahead of where other people understood comedy to be going. I've got a whole contingent here who is in love with you and your father and your family and his legacy. So much respect. We are gobbling up his entire legacy one UA-cam clip at a time. The helicopter story from Gilbert Gottfried is also legend.

Now sadly and mostly forgotten, Pat was one of the zaniest and funniest men that ever lived.

First met Pat, when I appeared at a nightclub, "Easy Street," in Chicago, back in 1958. He was then, a writer for Jonathan Winters, and brought him in, whenever Jonathan appeared at "Mr.Kelly's." The last time that I saw Pat was in 1972, when I was in West Hollywood, CA, to record a single. Pat was still as crazy then, as when I first met him. What a great guy. I truly miss him, as I'm sure that, Paul Williams doies.

Best Pat story I have heard - he and some friends were driving past The Lighthouse for the Blind offices in L.A., a big building, dark, with no lights on. Pat says, "Ah, they're working late tonight".

Pat used to be a writer for Johnny Carson when Johnny hosted The Tonight Show. Once referring to Mccormick’s huge size (6’8” and over 300 lbs) Johnny said they were going to tear Pat down and build a freeway out of him.

He once went into a grocery store. At the checkout with his trolley he asked the check out lady while holding a pack of toilet rolls in his hand "would this be enough toilet paper for this amount of food" 😂.

Pat was famous (when he was head writer for the Tonight Show) for streaking when Johnny was doing the monologue (wearing only a cowboy hat and a Johnny Carson mask). Johnny apparently retorted that the police couldn't hold him due to "lack of evidence"

Just heard Buck Henry on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast. He tells the Pat McCormick helicopter story. Buck tells all the true details since he was actually one of those in the helicopter. Look it up if you are a fan of either a Buck or Pat.

Pat McCormick was my mom's first cousin. On this Christmas, after cooking dinner for my 83-year old mom and serving her more than a bit of wine, I am introducing her to UA-cam. I've shown her Frank Sinatra and all her favorites, and she's loving it!

Look for sirius radio station 104 for the Milton Berle roast.
    .
Pat is so funny, talking about Milton's sausage, and lots of swears and f-words.
    .
I never knew Pat was so X-rated the bit it great I heard it Saturday on 104 Sirius comedy radio
    .
Listen for it, they will play it again.

Dick Cavett was better that all of the talk show hosts of his day...and probably all who are around today.

Pat McCormick did a great bit on the classic Jonathan Winters Show (1972~?) where he plays a King, and spouts the inimitable line:
"Is that a scepter in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"
    Hilarious guy!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Solanorich. Ironically, my mother died one year shy of a year after that post, on Chirstmas Eve 2011. Thank you so much for your kind message.
