I couldn't agree with this sentiment more. I don't hear it from a lot of people, but one of my favorite feelings in life is when you watch somebody else enjoy something that you love. I don't know if that's weird, but watching somebody fall in love with something that you also love, especially if you were the one that showed them it, it's just like nothing else. I love showing people movies and games and just watching them enjoy it and it just brings my heart so much warmth warmth, so this channel has been just amazing for me

I actually really enjoyed the Blade Runner PC game! It's a decent little point & click detective game that's highly faithful to its source material.
The identity of the replicants are randomized every playthrough, so you genuinely have no idea if the NPCs you talk to are human or not.

You have no idea how happy this episode has made me. As well as the alien and the terminator videos. These are so e of my all time favorite movies I've probably seen over 100 times since I was a kid, and it's soo amazing seeing a youtuber I already loved to watch, get to see them for the first time, and sharing your journey. I'm actually soo jealous you get to watch these for the first time.
I can't wait till you eventually get to the thing. It's up there with those I mentioned above, as well as the planet of the apes reboot and the dune movies

Matty discovering that old movies look better than new movies with tons of CGI. Love to see it. Wait till you get to 2001 A Space Odyssey. A film from 1968, that still holds up, in many cases still even looks better than new science fiction movies that are coming out.

love the channel / your videos -- quite pleased you enjoyed Blade Runner so much, it's been one of my top 5 movies across all genres since first seeing it on (probably) July 6th or 13th, 1982 (Tuesdays were my cohort's standing movie night back then, a habit i should try to revive)
i of course saw the version with the Harrison Ford narration back then and had no problem with it at the time, it seemed kind of appropriate for a sort of retro steam-punk dystopian future scifi film noir
i found your channel just after you started this series and look forward to seeing this series completed, i'll see you both on your patreon soon

1 - Deckard doesn't dream of a unicorn, he is awake. 2 - Nobody has memories of unicorns. 3 - He constantly loses badly to replicants physically and needs a gun.
I don't think Deckard is a replicant, it wrecks the whole story, Deckard and Rachel both find their humanity, just differently.
BTW Rachel is a proto-type, no set life span.

It was amazing how badly Blade Runner did in theaters back when it came out. Obviously, it was well ahead of its time, since once it was on home video, more and more people started talking about it. So much so that all those other editions of it came out on video and DVD and BluRay. So much so that so many things that came after it borrowed from it's aesthetic and narrative. It truly is one of the base parts of the visual mix of so many scifi films and shows... including The Matrix (which was the next big film that really redefined an aesthetic as much as Blade Runner had).
A lot of that aesthetic comes from PKD's original novel. But is also heavily influenced by other cyberpunk works from the time, notable Neuromancer (which still has one of the best opening lines ever: "They sky was the color of a television tuned to a dead channel.")
It was also the first real cyberpunk things to make it to the big screen (at least from the U.S.). It remains one of the few actual cyberpunk things that has (and also one of the few that hasn't ended up looking really silly as real world tech has passed it by... like, y'know, Hackers or Johnny Mnemonic). That particular scifi sub-genre has gotten a lot more love in video games over the years and in a handful of TV shows.

Han shooting first isn't a theory, it happened. Despite it being thematically correct for his character, ie. outlaw and not an idiot, Lucas just pussied out of the choice in subsequent years. If anything that, the SE changes and his reaction to Empire (which again he's rolled back) show that sometimes the creator of something doesn't have the best insight into their own works

  • @K.D.R_
    @K.D.R_ 6 місяців тому

Im really late so Matty probably wont see this, but, every version of the script, Deckard is human. Theres a video of the last screen writer explaining how Ridley Scott came up with the idea that Deckard is a replicant. David Peoples said he was reading something from the screenplay, and that some line of dialogue where Deckard says something about God, but he says "something something Father....". And Ridley thought he meant father as Tyrell, and not God. So from then on, he went around telling everyone how great this idea that Deckard is a replicant. And everyone involved in the movie, HATED the idea. And its one of the reasons why Ridley and Harrison Ford clashed so much during the production. Along side fighting with the writer.
And the unicorn scene was added later so he could really "sell" the idea that he is a replicant.
Deckard being a replicant goes against the movie since its also about the fact that Deckard had no humanity, and all the replicants did. That replicants were more human than him. And at the end he finds humanity with Rachel. Him being a replicant undoes all of that.
The voiceover was added AFTER the movie was shot, so the fact that a shot lingers has no relation to the voice over. And Harrison Ford wasnt just bored doing the voice over, he was basically trying to sabotage so they wouldnt put in the movie.
So the consensus around this is that Deckard IS NOT a replicant. You mentioned it, but it is the "han solo shot first" or the "special edition" of Ridley Scott.
I highly recommend the documentary Dangerous Days. Its 3 and half hours long, but is SO WORTH IT. Very glad Matty enjoyed it so much!

    1979: Alien Budget 11 million

    Huge success
1982: Ridley Scott’s very next movie Blade Runner, Budget 28 million
Box office result 42 million, total flop as Sir Lock said.

Message to Ridley Scott: your movie is a pointless boring slop, washing dishes is more exciting and thought provoking than this garbage. How about making a good movie next time instead of complaining about how unhappy audience is, after you served them trash?

@RetroRewind12 completely agree. Who knew there was a prescribed list of media you MUST have experienced before you're ALLOWED to have an opinion on things. 😂

@RetroRewind12 it was a tongue in cheek comment about gamers in general. Story telling has been books and movies until very recently, TV shows and now games to some extent. Also, game reviews can be done without a great grasp of good storytelling as it is an interactive medium.

@tapersaud tbf I didn't think your original comment was that crazy insulting and I got it was a joke. There were a couple of replies before Matty commented which have now suspiciously disappeared (lol) that were absolutely insane though.

This is one of my favorite movies ever. The sequel, however, is kinda boring.

People though BR was boring back then. 2049 is to 2017 what BR was to '82, in many ways: an uncomfortable watch, alien, "boring"... And just like the original it'll be more appreciated in the future. I enjoy BR more but 49 is a bold movie.

Don't worry I agree with you @elliot2118 it's really not a good movie especially compared to the original. Deni Villeneuve was too far in his own head worrying about making the movie look so pretty he forgot to make a compelling movie.

I don't like the movie but it's soundtrack is fantastic, I got to admit that.

I don't like blade runner. I've seen it many times, and I've seen 2049.
They seem shallow and simple to me.
It's a cop movie. And maybe it's because I study philosophy and that's why it comes across as shallow. You're going up against philosophers in my world. Which makes this movie shallow. They are definitely grasping at something but they never reach it....shallow.
