  • My name is Austin, this is Mopar Garage, and we build cool stuff in here! Today the new cylinder head showed up for the Shelby Dodge Daytona project! We are working on it a little getting it ready to go back together. We also have come up with a plan for the subframe issue, and found a Shelby steering rack! Lastly we are taking care of some odds and ends to cross stuff off the list. Huge thanks to turbododgeparts.com for all of the support through this build. Follow the links below to get the same products we are running on this car!

I never put the vaccuum block on until the head is mounted on the block. It is too easily broken if there is a mishap. I also changed my vaccuum layout so the lines are not laying across the back of the valve cover. I moved those to run up along the firewall where they are hidden. I also made a custom bracket for the wiring, vaccuum lines, and AFPR so it is not cocked where the one fuel line is bent into a U to connect to the fuel rail. It was a simple fix. Would be glad to send you some pics. And I have also seen people move the AFPR to mount to the strut tower as well. Either way, it is better than the one fuel line being bent into a U which can cause it to crack and leak.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to do with your tachometer. My 85 turbo Z's tach is not working. The needle is sitting at 3000 always. Even when not running

Mine is stuck at 2500. I have a couple theories on what it might be, this era of Chrysler products kind of seem known for this issue. Thanks for following along my friend!

Was just curious to know if you did any gasket match porting on the intake and exhaust manifolds? Was also wondering if you were planning on cleaning up the carbon sitting in the dish of the pistons? One thing to note is I believe you're looking at the Oil Light sending unit switch and not the oil pressure gauge sending unit, which based on what you describe is happening with your gauge may be a gauge sending unit issue right next to the switch in the turbo oil feed line bung, silver canaster with what should be a Gray/Yellow single wire to it (according to service manual). Sorry if you were talking about changing both of them. Keep going...looking good. Ironically, I saw that K-frame you were looking at on Steve's bookFace page and was going to let you know...but your name was already on it!!

I just left everything stock as far as porting. Whatever Steven suggested is what I went with, he’s the expert on these things! Thanks for the reminder on the oil sending units, I changed them both, but to be honest I didn’t know which one was which. Hopefully this resolves the gauge issue, I can’t believe it’s an actual oil pressure issue because it just wouldn’t make sense for oil pressure to drop when and engine is revved. Steve is the man! I was pumped he had the 1986 subframe.

You didn't want to paint the exhaust manifold because, " no one sees it "' but what about ceramic coating the manifold ( as a means of controlling radiant heat )?

It’s metal in the center with a paper sealing surface. I just let Steven handle those kind of parts, he’s the expert on these things!

@@uhurupeak2001 thanks for the suggestion Man! I’ll do a little research. I think because I am keeping stock boost levels and everything Steven wasn’t overly concerned about using a different style head gasket.
