That wire is for your coolant temperature gauge sensor, currently missing. It's the hole in the cylinder head just to the right of the AC compressor

Awesome, thank you! Watching the video back I do see the threaded hole there, I’ll have to check to see if I have one lying around in the parts I haven’t used yet.

Most excellent Austin, I know you've got to be stoked...I know I am! You've worked really hard getting to this point, and now you are in the home stretch. That is one lucky Turbo Z, it's finally gettin' the LUV it deserves.

Thank you Steven!! It was incredibly rewarding to pull it out of the garage under it's own power for the first time. This thing would not be running right now without all of your guidance and support!

I think I agree. First vehicle I’ve ever had that I am probably not going white letter.

After all the work you put into the Shelby Daytona, I am very pleased to see your vehicle is on its wheels and running.
    Congratulations!
FWIW, I did not see the backup lights on for more than a brief moment.
When you take the vehicle on the road, check for depressions where parking lot pavement intersects with street pavement.
I damaged more than one lower front air dam on my own '86 Daytona when the front edge hit the street pavement.

Thanks brother!! Got pretty lucky to find one this solid. It’s turned into a huge project but overall the bones are great.

Add a vacuum block, and new rubber lines. The high idle is almost always a vacuum leak, and or a dirty IAC valve.

High idle seemed to go away once the air box was put on…but in any case I love the idea about a vacuum block. I want to have all the vacuum lines organized and fresh!

For the love of god. Do something about that little bracket that is rattling near the throttle body. 😅

😂 it’s on the list of odds and ends to iron out.

Others have already commented on it but that wire for the temperature gauge sensor I'm pretty familiar with now as that sensor going bad was the cause of my temp gauge not working as I discovered later. Definitely go blackwall on the tires.

    • @TheMoparGarage
      @TheMoparGarage  3 місяці тому

Thanks man! I had already plugged in the temp sensor next to the thermostat so I had already mentally checked it off the list. That one must just be for the fans though. I think I agree on the blackwalls!

The missing sensor is the temp sender. there's a hole in the head for it. Be careful all the aftermarket ones I tried make it look like it's overheating when it's not.

Thanks man! I see the threaded hole watching the video back. I guess I disregarded a temp sensor because I already plugged in the one next to the thermostat, guessing that one must just be for the fans. I’ll see if I’ve got one in my stack of extra parts I haven’t used yet!

There will be more! Looking for a 5 speed 2500 V8 4x4 extended cab right now, that combination has been tough to find!

The build quality definitely wasn’t great, as is the case with most 80’s cars. But in my opinion they’re a really cool and quirky piece of history.

Do you have a fire extinguisher?
I had a jaguar that started smoking and it looked like oil smoke at first. It went up in flames seconds later. Obviously it was gas - a fuel line unfortunately burst. Now I'm traumatized and even just oil smoke terrifies me 😆

      I don’t have one, but it’s probably not a bad idea 😂
