When I’m playing I prefer nylon tip but it’s interesting hearing you compare the two- the wood tip is mysterious and powerful, has more low frequencies in it. Both seem to be valuable voicing to include.
Back then i didn't know it has a instrumental purpose. I thought it was a safety packaging to protect the tip when the sticks were on sale. When i bought one, i kept use it until it breaks or lost, thus my drumsticks last longer.
I like wood tips because of the sound It’s very pleasing to my ears Now that’s not to say I don’t like nylon tips because I also love nylon tips as well it’s good to have a variety of different drumsticks different thicknesses different links different feels it’s all good my favorite woods are hickory And maple and I like oak a little bit and I also like persimmon wood Now maple is lighter than hickory hickory is heavier than maple and Oak is the heaviest And persimmon wood is heavy to So it all depends on what brand of drumstick you like and what environment you’re playing in because every music situation is going to require a different drumstick that’s the way I look at drumsticks Let’s say you’re playing jazz for example you wouldn’t wanna use a Fabi you would wanna use a 5a or a 7a Now on the other side of the spectrum there’s also rock and funk you would probably use a oval tip for a rock and a barrel tip for a funk If you’re playing fusion you would use around tip this is all great information Jonathan thank you for sharing God bless you you were a good drummer for Michael Jackson
Yeah the nylon tips ring with a lot more treble and clarity or "sharpness" while the wood tips sound a little lower and fuller in reverberation and like you said somewhat muffled almost. I like both equally fine I think they both have their applications depending on what kind of sound you want to get for whatever particular piece you're writing or playing. But as long as you're making good music, it's all gravy.
I like round nylon but Vic Firth doesn't make them in 8D. Anyone know any other brands that might make one? Its been 25+ years with sticks that just aint quite right.
The wooden tip sounds like wood and the nylon tip sounds like nylon.

Nylon sounds sharper on initial contact. Wood has more of a ring to it.

Wood tip for me, love the darker sound.
Amen, I've been using nylon tips for almost 40 years now, I don't know why anybody else still bothers with wood tip sticks
Share , Tom’s , even Highhat all super bright and clear , super clean
I personally use nylon tip Omar Hakim signatures from Vic Firth they have a great ring and tonal quality
I like the consistency of nylon tips. I hit hard and tend to chip of wooden beads.
Size and shape of the tip are also a consideration
Nylon più jazz anni 1950 ❤
Wooden sticks ❤😊
The nylon tip also feels bouncier on the toms. Placebo, but works for me
Grande Jonathan. Mi è sempre piaciuto suonare la batteria. Se tu facessi lezioni , sicuramente le frequenterei
