The cancelling of the cup is a great story too because after several Canadiens players got sick with the flu, they decided to forfeit the cup but the Metropolitans refused to accept the cup in forfeit.
If Shannon & Yvonne ever change their minds & decide to have a kid together, "Future Considerations Skanes" would be a great name for their future NHLer.
Dang Spanish Flu really played a role in this season. Taking out NHL star Joe Hall. We wouldn’t see an epidemic like this nearly 100 years later. Crazy times.
I was looking at the Wikipedia page for the 1974 draft, because that's the year Buffalo drafted the fictional Taro Tsujimoto. There were 25 rounds that year. All 18 teams drafted in the first 7 rounds, then 17 in the 8th and 9th, 15 in the 10th, 14 in the 11th, and so forth until only 1 team (Washington) drafted in the last 2 "rounds." It looks like the first teams eliminated had the best records. Are you familiar with this?
There was a depression in 21-22. Economic contraction was greater than any 2 quarters during the 1929 depression. We got out of quickly as the government let the market work, unlike the 1929 depression where everything the government did, made a depression, a Great Depression.
I always considered Seattle and Montreal having a half a cup. Practically go champs. It's not their fault that they played a whole game that decided nothing.
One of the most interesting bits to me about the Cup cancellation - The Canadiens were almost all sick, and couldn't play. Their manager said he was forfeiting the series to Seattle as a result, (quoth Wikipedia), "but Pete Muldoon, manager-coach of the Metropolitans, refused to accept the Cup in a forfeiture, seeing that it was catastrophic illness that had caused the Canadiens lineup to be short of players"
No forward passes in hockey is a terrible rule. What are you supposed to do, the one tactic of steamrolling over the defense while driving the net every possession?
Are you sure its Newsy LaLonde and not pronounced like LaLOANED? That's my last name and I pronounce it the second way and it was taught to me by my family to be a pet peeve when it isn't said right lol. I've heard you say Derek LaLonde's name the second way so just curious if he pronounced it the first way, I know some people say it differently
Wow, future considerations having more longevity than Jagr
Just like his cousin Vacant, the most decorated pro wrestler ever 😂
Uhhh, not sure where you get your 'facts,' but Jagr's career started in the leadup to the War of 1812.

Can you do a video on ‘When future considerations actually turns into something’? Would love a vid on that
Second this. And it has to include the player who ended up being traded for himself.
I remember in the late 90s there was a trade involving Colorado where the future considerations turned out to be Robyn regehr
I’d love a video like this
This would be great
This is going to be a great series. I freaking love THG’s brain
The idea that games in a Final would simply end in a tie is crazy to me.
Nowadays series could be 10 or 11 games long without multiples overtime!
1918-19 gotta be one of my favorite seasons
Remember it like it was yesterday
If Shannon & Yvonne ever change their minds & decide to have a kid together, "Future Considerations Skanes" would be a great name for their future NHLer.
😂
Love these videos covering really old seasons. Theyre awesome!
I love the history videos! They take me back to the summer of 2018 🙂 Thank you Shannon and Yvonne for all the great work 🥰
never forget joe hall.
a goalie getting an assist when they were only recording one per goal and the forward pass was illegal is impressive
really enjoy the history series. wild how diff hockey used to be.

No. 100 years after an actual pandemic the world was shuttered due to an escaped biological weapon.
Not the same whatsoever
Really enjoying these history of the NHL videos. Thanks for doing this, Shannon!
Loving the pre-1940 videos, forgotten bygone era
I’m really enjoying these in depth videos, Shannon! Great job!
Kinda eerie that we had almost exactly 100 years in between pandemics
We need a career video on Future Consideration, madness board assured
I think this will be a great series! Thanks. Think 101 year seasons might work on the solar system Ice giant planets

Coach be like "ight that's enough I'll do it myself"
Great videos! I love hearing about the early history of the League. The Depression wasn't until 1929, so we have a little bit to go yet.

@@speedybure Sorry, but that's not what happened during the Great Depression.
There was no redline until 1943-44
🤓
So he saw your comment about the red line, and completely ignored mine from 3 days ago. Nice
they should finish up this series. modern players. throwback rules. recreated jerseys.
I damn near spit up my coffee when you made that 101 year long season joke xD
The previous season's scoring leader Joe Malone played just 8 games in 18-19 season. In 8 games he had 7g + 1a and 3(!) pim.
I always considered Seattle and Montreal having a half a cup. Practically go champs. It's not their fault that they played a whole game that decided nothing.
I love all the old names

I love these videos! If you ever see this comment, the story behind the founding of the Rochester Americans is a good one.
I didn't think the NHL had a red line at centre ice at all until 1943, which was the dawn of "modern hockey."
Almost exactly 100 years apart flu cancelled playoffs and COVID cancelled playoffs.
Well covid almost cancelled the playoffs
It sounds like a lot of these early rules were based on the foundations of rugby like no forward passing.
Shannon you must do a video about the history of our beloved Future considerations.
every single future considerations trade ever
Day 739 of asking THG to re-draft the 1967 NHL Draft.
they nowadays should change 2min penalty to you are not shorthanded anymore so they can call 100 penalties in game😁
Need a career video for future considerations
Ties in the playoffs, imagine that
a career video for Future Considerations needs to be done... but then again, i don't think FC is retiring anytime soon...
In some ways, it would be a good april fools day video.
THATS WHERE DEREK LALONDE GOT HIS NICKNAME FROM???
Vezina got the first shutout and assist, but which goalie got the first goal?
Edit: looks like Billy Smith is credited with doing so in 1979.

so should be 26 :P
Was Harry Cameron traded from Toronto to Ottowa for "future considerations?" ;-)>
Serious question. Why are they called the original 6 teams if Toronto and Montreal were actually the original 2 teams?
Original six is a term coined for the 1967 expansion. There was the original six in one division and six expansion teams in the other.
Oh thats really interesting. Thanks!
When you say he died of the flu, do you mean Spanish flu?
Only 1000 views …hockey guy has fallen off
