I USED TO PLAY GAZZARRI'S IN THE MID TO LATE 60s
I SAW SAMMY WHEN HE 1st GOT TO SAN FRANCISCO...
I WAS ON FELL STREET & HE WAS ON OAK STREET JUST ACROSS PANHANDLE PARK IN THE HAIGHT ~ ASHBURY
    HE PLAYED GUITAR & SANG
    2 GUITARS, BASS DRUMS + A B3 ORGAN WITH 122 LESLIE
HIS GROUP WAS CALLED THE JUSTICE BROTHERS, HAGAR, FROM THE INBRED EMPIRE (SAN BERNARDINO AREA) NAMED HIS GROUP AFTER JUSTICE BRO AUTO PARTS
I SAW THEM A LOT IN SF
RONNIE MONTROSE & LEAD VOCALIST STARR ALONG WITH DRUMMER CHUCK RUFF STARTED "SAWBUCK" UP IN THE BAY AREA
THEY WERE A GREAT GROUP THAT FEATURED 3 GUITARS
    I SAW MONTROSE A BUNCH
    THEY FUCKING ROCKED MAN
    SAMMY WAS GREAT IN THAT
YEARS LATER IN THE 1980s I STARTED A GROUP CALLED
Top Jimmy & the Rhythm Pigs
    HERE IN HOLLYWOOD, CALIF
DAVID LEE ROTH WOULD SIT IN WITH US AND HANG OUT
    HE'S AN INTERESTING GUY
DAVID & EDDIE THEN WROTE A SONG ABOUT US CALLED "TOP JIMMY" FROM 1984 LP
THE TOP JIMMY BAND WENT FROM 1980 UP TO 1988 IN HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA
I ENJOYED ALL THOSE GREAT TIMES THAT I HAD IN MUSIC
I'M STILL WRITING, PLAYING AND SINGING ALL THE TIME

    LIVE ON NEW WAVE THEATER
    TOP JIMMY ~ VOCALS

The way Eddie rigged his pedalboard and amps with custom modifications helped him with the tone. It's insane. Obviously its truly all in the hands, but damn he sure did go true mad genius on how he modded some of the gear specs on his own.

    • @christensendani
      @christensendani 3 роки тому

When you say modded and rigged, exactly how? Do you know? Did he go as far as opening the pedals up and changed things inside creating tweaks in the circuits or what? This is an honest question, don't know much about van Halen

    Excerpt:
Were you born with a five-and-a-half octave voice, or is that something you achieved through relentless training?
I was taught early on from my singing coaches when I was 15 or 16, “Sing with the girls.” To me, that’s Chaka Khan, Aretha. They also taught me to practice foreign accents and to sing in other languages-this works with the 17 or 18 different muscles that affect your armature.

I’m sick of people saying Dave was never able to sing. Was he a Mercury type singer? No, but he had an awesome Rock/Blues voice. It didn’t last him very long, but he had it. You can’t blame it all on drugs, smoking and drinking. Most rock singers do all that shit and still maintain a good singing voice into their 60s. Unfortunately, Dave was not as lucky. His forte was machismo and a very visceral type of singing from the 70s through the mid 80s. By the 90s his vocal power was gone. He can still get it done in the studio, but live is rough. I have to say, he did really well on the 2007-2008 tour. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but that tour exceeded my expectations. I saw them twice. The 2012 and 2015 tours weren’t as strong vocally.

Matt Lidyoff that was maybe 15 yrs ago. Van Halen still packs them in wirh DLR. Next tour will likely have Mike back and possibly another co lead vox with Sam and DLR. Looks like he wont need to find a party after all.
