Right ed sounded great here...and early on in his career....but dont overthink it...i have played the same 3 amps since 1974....two matching 63 fender twins and a 62 tan bassman....i just always say if i cant get it with this rig....lol....its me...but i just bought t a quick rod splawn...and am happy experimenting with the 4 amps....seems that closed back 4 × 12 cabs were a huge part of Eddie's thump n aunch....i have never liked to much distortion ...and even less now....guess if i had the $$$$$ i would go wild on amps...n guitars...hahaha
The way Eddie rigged his pedalboard and amps with custom modifications helped him with the tone. It's insane. Obviously its truly all in the hands, but damn he sure did go true mad genius on how he modded some of the gear specs on his own.
When you say modded and rigged, exactly how? Do you know? Did he go as far as opening the pedals up and changed things inside creating tweaks in the circuits or what? This is an honest question, don't know much about van Halen
@@christensendani I'm not sure about tinkering with the pedal circuitry, but he did wire all the electronics in his guitar himself. And he did wax pot the pickups himself, removing much of the hum. He did lots of stuff like that.

I’m sick of people saying Dave was never able to sing. Was he a Mercury type singer? No, but he had an awesome Rock/Blues voice. It didn’t last him very long, but he had it. You can’t blame it all on drugs, smoking and drinking. Most rock singers do all that shit and still maintain a good singing voice into their 60s. Unfortunately, Dave was not as lucky. His forte was machismo and a very visceral type of singing from the 70s through the mid 80s. By the 90s his vocal power was gone. He can still get it done in the studio, but live is rough. I have to say, he did really well on the 2007-2008 tour. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but that tour exceeded my expectations. I saw them twice. The 2012 and 2015 tours weren’t as strong vocally.
