    Love that you mention the importance of being consistent and setting expectations at the beginning

    I’ve done a similar thing before. Right now we’re doing technology minutes. We don’t do a lot of screen time at our house, so my daughter starts out with the potential to earn 20 minutes each day in increments of 5 min. If there is whining, complaining or attitude during each block of time then a 5 min stick gets put back in my jar. But if she is respectful and gets her work done then she puts the stick in her jar. She’s a saver, so usually she earns all week and wants her minutes on Friday or Saturday.😊

      Wow I'm thinking we may need to pull back on our screen time! That's a neat system with the sticks! I like a visual aid!

    I love the star system! That is so doable. Thank you! I Have a quick suggestion: if you change the part of your title of this video from “school at home” to homeschool - I think you’ll get even more natural searches from moms who need help.

      Thank you!! Great idea! I made this back when everyone was doing virtual learning at home, so it was originally intended for that audience, but of course it's helpful to all!! Thanks! ☺️

    What an awesome method! I generally have a treasure box they can earn to pick out of at the end of the week! But I like this way way better. I think I am going to implement this system! Thanks for sharing 😊

      @TheJohnsonCrew it is working so well. I started the day after seeing this video. The first day my youngest lost almost all his stars but after realizing his brother had more he did much better and started keeping them. They visited our "start store" yesterday and counted out their cut out stars to me like money. Lol! It was the easiest week of school so far. 😄

      @@TheJohnsonCrew We don't. Either we get the work done or we get it done later in the day, or double up the next day. Everytime I make a chart I never follow it so I just don't do it anymore. Super kudos to you for follow-through! :)

    What do you do with a kiddo who just gives up after losing all 5 stars? My kids have the attitude of "well I lost it anyway, no point in trying now!"

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  2 роки тому

      Our consequence for losing all 5 stars is no iPad the rest of the day, which really stings for them, so you'll want to use "that thing" that will sting that day. Then after losing that thing for a day or two or three (depending on how stubborn they are), they should want to straighten up! Plus making the rewards enticing for them is really the power behind this system. Put a poster on the wall where you keep track of their earned stays every day so they can get excited about how much they've racked up. That first time that they lose all their stars - if it's still early in the school day, have them take a brain break (run around the backyard, ride their bike, do a kid workout or stretching video on UA-cam) to attempt to change their attitude, have a pep talk, and appeal to their heart that their attitude affects you and the whole house around them and tell them their role in the "classroom" is extremely important to how the whole school day goes.

    I'd like to use this, but as a daily reward for game time minutes. Any suggestions on when minutes can be redeemed?

      That's a great idea! When our kids are done with school and their afternoon chores, then they get ipad time - so that may work well for y'all too!

      I already added it to the chore and schoolwork checklist system I have at home! But I added the behavior/attitude component that you suggested. My kids are excited! Because my system involves so many check marks (about 100/ week). I am making 100 check marks equal to 100 cents in our family store. I am off this weekend to purchase the store items. We are excited. And have already seen improvement on their behavior! :) thank you again for the idea!

    How many stars do your kids *usually* have by the end of the week? I like your idea of separating parent and teacher discipline. It's kind of hard for me to completely switch from mom to teacher since I still have twin two year olds who expect me to be mom all the time.

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  2 роки тому

      It can vary between 18-23~! Oh goodness! I feel you! I have a 2yo! Can't imagine have twin toddlers 🤪
