      So you think I am a 'dude'? From the 1870s to the 1960s, dude primarily meant a male person who dressed in an extremely fashionable manner (a dandy) or a conspicuous citified person who was visiting a rural location, a "city slicker". I find it offensive and outdated, but forgivable. 🙂However, I do know all that about Mel Brooks and he is one of my favourite American comedians, and his wife Ann Bankroft was also one of my favourites in movies. I think the problem is that you did not understand my post, or I wasn't clear enough. I was speaking of his age when I said only Mel Brooks would get away with that. If you look you will also see I wrote that I loved his act. Loved the movie that it was in as well, which I did not write. 🙂

    Heard Mel Brooks on NPR a year or 2 ago and he got flack from the people at his temple(he’s Jewish) and they were upset at him for playing Hitler. They were mad at him thinking Hitler was funny but his defense that shut them up was that he was making fun of Hitler he wasn’t playing him to be taken seriously it was to insult and make Hitler look like a fool and bravo he sure did it while being entertaining wish he did more work today we need more comedy like his

      I was curious so I looked it up. The KGB scattered Hitler’s ashes in some secret place in the wilderness, specifically so it wouldn’t become a pilgrimage site for neo-nazis. The last thing the Russians would do with the remains is put them on display.
      And the bone fragments being DNA tested and seemingly being female might be because some of Eva Braun’s bones were mixed in with Hitler’s, or just a mistake. Or maybe Hitler had gender chimerism, there’s a lot of explanations.

      @CivilEngineerWroxton 4 роки тому +4

      Yep, I'm old, too, so I definitely remember seeing it on Night Traxx on TBS (Before Ted Turner built his gargantuan empire). They played music videos all night long and I was in high school so my best friend and I would lie on the huge sectional in the living room and watch videos until we fell asleep. During about a three month span in 1983 this video would play once every hour or so. Our House by Madness, Sweet Dreams Are Made of This by The Eurythmics, and so many others would fill out the rest of their hour cycle and we memorized just about all of them. Those were some amazing days. Great music and great memories. 😊

      @@CivilEngineerWroxton Hey, Al!😁 I must confess, I wasn't familiar with Night Traxx, but I probably didn't start watching TBS till the mid-'90s...when I finally got cable(lol). I guess there was a local channel in the Coachella Valley that was essentially an open spot, so USA ran on that in my vicinity. So I often got to see Night Flight, plus a couple of other video shows, Radio 1990 and Heartbeat City. Oh, and Friday Night Videos on NBC. Syndicated shows like Top 40 Videos, too. So even if we didn't have MTV(my folks weren't gonna splurge for that!(lol)), I was okay, video-wise. I do remember TBS being a hotbed for pro wrestling in the mid-1980s, but I had only read about it, till 1995, with WCW Monday Nitro...on TNT. I had easier access to the WWF at the time...WWE now😄.

      Stalin couldn't admit that he lost Hitler, so a silly story about Hitler committing suicide was concocted. Hitler and his top people escaped to Argentina where they agreed to keep a low profile and develop Argentine industry. Kurt Tank, Nazi aircraft designer that designed the FW-190, a high ranking Nazi party member was instrumental in developing Argentina's aircraft manufacturing industry. The rest of the allies were more then happy to pretend the Nazis in south America didn't exist as their presence helped deter communist expansion into the Americas.

      @@barringtonwomble4713 It was intended to be ridiculous. Mel Brooks made ALL of his productions ridiculous enough that they're hilarious and this one in particular made fun of the decadence and lasciviousness of the Nazis. That's what this video is all about. The Nazis were strung out on drugs galore, used women like I use Kleenex, smoked three packs a day, killed for fun, and were so devoid of any real motivation that it's no wonder they were utterly destroyed.

    • @bryanstyble748
      @bryanstyble748 7 місяців тому

      It WASN'T in the movie, nor--I gather--ever INTENDED to be in "To Be or Not To Be", which you may know was a remake of the Jack Benny & Carol Lombard wartime original feature film. Instead, this was (like so many other '80s music videos) a promotional video intended to drum up interest in the movie. But it didn't get much airplay at all--MTV may actually have banned it for obvious reasons--but it DID get aired on USA Network's rock anthology Friday night series "Nightflight".
      That series was for my money was perhaps the finest rock music television production in history. (Pretty low bar to clear there, admittedly; TV has NEVER seemed to really get the point of rock--pop, yes, country perhaps, rap yep (alas...), but seldom other than in "Nightflight" has rock found the right producer/director/writers combination. MANY of the short films, etc. I saw on "Nightflight" I've NEVER seen ANYWHERE else...and usually hadn't even HEARD of them until they appeared some late Friday on USA Network during the '80s.
      For instance, that's where, DECADES before TCM finally aired it, I saw (and was MESMERIZED by) "Medium Cool". It's one of my fave films ever--a weird but BRILLIANT combination of documentary AND fictive narrative [starring Peter Bonnerz--the dentist on Bob Newhart Show--of all people] set in AND filmed in Chicago during the week of the historic 1968 Democrat convention.)
      Oh, and one more Nightflight's point--it's narrator for many years was FANTASTIC in the gig, and never seen (Pat Prescott, a female disc jockey from radio I'm guessing, but never could find out where).
      Again, Nightflight was the best rock show in TV history; that's my now-decades-long considered opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.

      Whilst rhapsodizing about "Nightflight", I was remiss in not mentioning its visually stunning intro sequence. Who could not be entranced by that?
      Oh, and sorry for the sloppy grammar: of course, above it should be "its narrator Pat Prescott", not "it's". And yep, it's sure easy to confuse "it's" and its lookalike "its", isn't it?
