  • A short little tutorial on how I use this alignment aid and how I see so many amateurs use it incorrectly.
    Slight Correction
    I realized after I had edited this video that I misspoke in a couple places. I was sitting there reading Mark Brodie's "Every Shot Counts" and in the putting section, it clearly talks about aiming at the "apex" of your putt will cause you to miss many of your putts on the short side. So as a general rule, the alignment strategy will work but aiming for the apex instead of down the starting line will not increase your chances of making the putt. Committing to using the line completely changed my putting. I used to miss, on average ~1.5 putts per round in the 2.5 to 3.5 foot range.
    Like many people, when I first dabbled with using the line, it never looked "right." But after tinkering with ball position, head position, and eye position, I turn the weakness into an absolute strength. Went from ~31 putts per round to

    Should check Mike Malaska on how your eyes deceive you when you stand over the putt and actually instead juts before you step in look down the alignment line till it does look lined up correctly with the hole, keep your eyes still then step into to address the ball, this added adjustment has really helped me using a line of my putts

      Yes matthew that was likely the single best putting video ive ever watched and essentially changed my putting game overnight. After a lil practice on the putting green i realized i had the same problem as most and my eyes were misleading me when standing straight over the ball. Started using the malaska method and went out and sunk a few from deep and far more from that mediocre range than i usually had in the past. Been using it ever since and am a firm believer that it has transformed my putting game forever.

    One thing not mentioned - and this goes back to Mike Malaska again - is that before you use the line to putt, you have to learn how to roll the ball so that the line doesn't wobble. The line has to show that the ball is rolling straight. If it's not, it doesn't matter whether you set the line to the aiming point or not. It has to roll straight to follow the target line.

    Success of using line(s) on ball is based on the assumption that you can read the green well and can putt straight. Once you've lined up the ball line(s) in the direction you want the ball to go (taking into account the break(s) along the way), you must trust your decision and commit to it. Your focus during the stroke is only the speed of the putt.

    I normally play mid to low 80s and started doing Golftec lessons recently and he said always use the line (because I previously wasn’t). I always thought it would slow me down, but often it’s faster because I know I’m lined up correctly

    actually in my case to allign the ball with a line made me hole much more putts, specially on the short putts.I would say 20% - 15% more and this is huge

    I draw the line and then without remove the template, mark a perpendicular line also. The perpendicular line can be lined up to the putter face. Helps me a ton off the tee also

  • @33115566

    Use a tee to mark your ball when you can. Read the putt and place the tee on that line. When its your turn, put the ball line on the tee line. Put your line on the putter on the ball line. Now it just a matter of pace.

    It’s more making sure you got the ball centered where’d the line at address looks straight and doesn’t look like the back of the line is curving. even on side hill lie you gotta place it where the line is straight. even if you got the line pointing where you wanna start the ball on that line. At address it won’t look like it but it really is. too me I think it’s more the address position where your eyes are looking down at the ball. making sure when you do a stroke that your putter is going on the correct path and the blade is shut at impact and not left open or closed

  • @gggnumber1
    @gggnumber1 Рік тому

    I don't see how a line is gonna help when you aiming the ball to the left or the right of the cup, especially when there is a giant break. No break? Straight putt? Even from 30' away? Just hit it straight. However, I'm gonna try it. After that, I'm gonna draw 'smiley faces' all over my putting ball.

    *QUESTION* How do you check your alignment for putting? Comment Below - be as detailed or vague as you would like :)

    • @Raven.flight

      I use an alignment line. What I do is visualise an aim point for the break of the green (the hardest bit by far), then I lie my putter down so that the shaft is pointing DIRECTLY at that line. I then lift the handle of my putter and place my ball with the alignment line going directly under my putter shaft. Pick up my ball marker and putt.

  • @DeronSizemore
    @DeronSizemore 5 років тому

    I used to use a line and then stopped because I just wasn't making a lot of the ones I thought I should make. I discovered that my issue was attention to detail. I'd get my line to a point where I thought it was "close enough" when in reality, "close enough" might mean you miss a couple putts per round high or low that I should have made. Once I started taking an extra couple seconds to ensure my line was exactly where I wanted it, I can't imagine putting without it.

    • @KnockedStiffGolf
      @KnockedStiffGolf  5 років тому +1

      I like stories like that. It’s more user error than the line - you realized that and fixed it instead of quitting the whole thing altogether. Glad it worked for you!

    • @DeronSizemore
      @DeronSizemore 5 років тому

      @@KnockedStiffGolf Well... to be fair I did quit it altogether for about four years. I went back to it because I was having issue with alignment on the longer putts. I don't take practice strokes on short putts, but I do on longer ones. What would happen is after taking my practice stroke on longer putts, I'd re-address the ball but lose my line (I used to just use a dark spot on the green in front of the ball or something). With the line, I can get it perfect, step back and take my strokes and be good to go once I step back in.

    There are a few thoughts that this provokes in me. First off, great vid, great point. There are quite a few videos out that address this very thing. What looks great squatted behind the ball, looks ridiculous standing over it. It is a discrepancy created by the difference between binocular vision and.... Standingsidewayslookingsideways vision. :)
    I use this as a "trustfall" exercise to take my mind off of mechanics and just feel the speed. I almost laugh over the ball and allow myself to be sucked in to a magic trick. You're telling me this is the same as when I sat it down?? Pfft, ok. Let's see. The scientist in me wants to truly and honestly follow the line to give the experiment a real and true test. Works for me, because it distracts my conscious mind so that my subconscious supercomputer can do it's job.

    I'm a firm believer in using a sharpie line around the ball, not only does it really help me with lining the ball up with the intended start line, but as a complete side issue, when I tee the ball up at the start of each hole, it helps me line up for intended line of each tee shot, but here is the side issue, it leaves a sharpie mark on your club face. INSTANT FEEDBACK!! It really helped me improve to improve my centre strikes on all clubs, I'm not a great golfer by any stretch of the imagination, but this little black line has helped in so many ways!! It's a keeper for me 😊😉

    Tiger woods, countless other tour pros, a massive amount of well known teaching pros all advocate using a line...essentially the point of this video was YOU couldn't line the putt up correctly, so since almost all elite golfers do this and I don't know who THE FUCK you are youve just convinced me to use a line...you must be trash at putting if you can't understand that when you get over the putt to trust your line...moron

    • @KnockedStiffGolf

      Mark Smith - I’ve seen a lot of dumb comments on UA-cam, but you can take the title for now. If you watched the video, you’d understand that I do use the line but it’s not uncommon for golfers to feel like it’s set up incorrectly when they stand over it... BUT judging by your swing video on your page, you’d be lucky to ever be on a green. Take care and thanks for watching
