I used to lay my cigar on the ground like an alignment stick. Took the guys I played with a surprisingly long time to catch on
I have been using this line on my ball as a putting alignment aid for years, I cannot wait to hit the course and the range and try these tips. I have a whole folder on UA-cam just for golf tips that I can review and you are a lot of them. Thank you!
I have always marked my ball with a large “T” for several reasons. 1. My first initial, 2. Putting alignment, direction and square up the club face with the top of the “T”. 3. On the tee box, I use the “T” for spine and shoulder alignment, a slightly tilted T to the rear, makes sure I give a slight angle to my spine, and keep my shoulders aligned for a good turn.
Thanks for the great video Matt!!!
this guy loves the lines, not just on the golfball
Took me a minute 🤣
1500 words per minute is a tough feat 😂
Lol
Better be talking about the lines in the fairway and not the marching powder
Or boooger sugar
What a great tip!! Now I know why I hit my driver not on line!! Thanks for the great tip!!! We only had placing in winter and I could never understood why in winter I reach for the ball, cause of the line!! ⛳️🏌🏻♀️🇿🇦
Hammer the nail into the back off the ball was the best tip I've got from your channel.... good tips today I'll give them a go next time out
Best Tip Ever! I just came back from the Driving Range and tried this. It worked! I was hitting much more straighter in my intended directions, with much longer distances, and most of all, with much more ease. Many Thanks, from Brunei.
Great tip. I tried it today and it helped. I felt more comfortable with my alignment and hit much better shots. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips - I have actually got away from putting a line on my ball but now I am going to try this!
Matt I have watched your channel for ages and as always the content is good , I really like your strategy vlogs , you are always understandable and full of enthusiasm , it’s nice to see , thanks mate
I'll give it a try... Greatly appreciated! Also, love the alignment stick cover. They were buried in the trunk, now back in the bag :-)
when I watched this a while back I started using it and it does help... thanks... recently I have found I put and got better with no line... I put the blank part of the ball up...
Interesting. I must try this. I put line on the top all the time.
Love your high energy. Great tip, never heard that before. I'll have to try that.
There's something satisfying about watching someone pure their clubs ... The sound alone...
Very interesting. I never considered the line of sight for my golf ball line on a tee or wedge shot.
Mr. Fisher, I stumbled upon one of your videos and have to admit, it was the best golf instruction to date for me. Not insulting the other p RT os, it was just that YOUR'S, was fun to watch, informational, made so much more sense, and easy to understand. Thoroughly enjoyed it and have subscribed and seen at least 15-20 more, with more to come
Thank you very much, keep up the outstanding work.
Really good tip. I line up all my balls (golf) and aim towards the hole. Works every time! Fore Right!!
new to golfing and wasn't even aware of using that line on the ball to line up your putt! can't wait to try this out
Great tip Matt... I’ve always used the line for putting but not for driving. Trying this on my next round. Thx
Ivan
Got to say never thought of the line on the ball for anything other than putting. Tried this at the driving range today and worked really well. Helped me a lot with correcting my usual fade shot 🏌️♂️
I always use the line on my balls for putting and I will try these tips as you sugest. I'm sure they will work ⛳😘 .Thanks Matt. You are awesome!!!
will try this out next time I play, thanks!
Using a line on the ball has totally transformed my putting. Today I used this on the driving range and it was incredible. Using the line tilted to the side as described allowed me to much more easlily swing along the correct path. Was able to hit it straight, little fads, and draws.

Good one. Really good. I've used the line differently with my driver for setting the height of te ball on the tee so the upper part of ball is above top of driver. Could easily do both!!
I've been watching plenty of golf instruction videos and have never seen this kind of line advice. Will give it a try, though the "short distance in front of you reference point" seems more appealing: the swing pane might still be off even when using an alignment line on the ball.
Wow!
Things I did not know !
Legal help to make me hit it better !
I am implementing this IMMEDIATELY !
OMG, Mr. Short Game has given us the best long game tip too :). Thank you!!
Great vid! It was great seeing you at The Golfholics Tourney 🤙
I've been using the arrows on the ball oriented to the right, I'm a right handed player, to remind/encourage me to seeing from the inside out due to my slice. I think this helps... Sometimes. What I haven't done is rotate the ball towards me after alignment. I'll do that from now on.
Great video thanks, l will try this out next round!
Makes perfect sense. Thanks Matt.
You are always full of good tips that are practical for the everyday player. No nonsense. Love your sense of humor as well!
You are the contemporary Michael Breed - great passion.
Thanks for this great tip.
Sweet tip Matt!
I use a Check Go when putting my line on the ball. It spins the ball at high revolutions so the ball is balanced when applying your line. I highly recommend it.
Great video your really helping my short game 👍👍👍👍
Love it , so simple yet brilliant! Keep the videos coming 👍
Brilliant advice
Wish you would've shown your theory on the line up for the draw with the driver. Great video.
This guys great, doesn’t talk down to ya like some of the other video guys. He comes on genuine !
Doing this. Thanks!!!!
Good stuff here, thanks!
Genius tip. Another thing I would have never thought of. I have an older putter.
Thanks for the tips, looking forward to trying them out.
Nice tip I'll give it a try next time out.
I use a Check N Go. It aligns the cores perfectly and I follow the rules for use off the tee, whether they be for a driver or iron.🐈
I’be been using a line for driving for about 6 months, massive improvement, I hit 90% of fairways. I’m going to try the line on the side to see how it works also, great video👍
Jesus 13 fairways a round, sign me up 😂😂
I can’t bloody well putt Josh, hence off 13!
Paul Houghton haha we all have that one part of the game that if people didn’t see they would think were scratch 😂
This guy is probably the best out there for us weekend Warriors
Good tip. Will try that
Note too self! Don't use line, it jack's me up too much, that's how I was looking at it but this might work for me. Sometimes all you need is a new perspective, Thank you for the tip.
Great tip.
Makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks
On tee shots I put the Sharpie line on my ball at the back side (club side) center of the ball vertically. The line transfers onto the club face so I try to see if I am hitting center on the face. Somedays I tend to be a bit of a toe hitter. Within a couple of shots I can see if it's going to be one of those days and adjust.
And he has a ball tracker that’s awesome Matt carry on!🏌🏽♂️204🇨🇦
I have one, too. We got married in 2010.
*ba dum tss
Another great tip from Mr. Shortgame....thanks from Nova Scotia!
Keep thm/tips coming.
Love it!
At around 3:20 you mentioned that improper focus upon the ball can encourage a coming over the top when striking the ball. This is the second viewing of your video but the first time that I’m truly hearing what you are saying. The other day I realized that with my driver I was not hitting to the sweet spot of the driver. I looked down at the little indicator on top of my TaylorMade M1 and when I focused upon how it truly lined up to the sweet spot I saw that I was hitting more towards the heel by maybe 3/8” inch. I think people believe that the sweet spot on today’s golf club is much larger. But I think the sweet spot is still the size of a dime. Only when we start hitting the true sweet spot can we feel truly balanced in the contact position.
Great info!!! I dig your videos every time. Keep up the good work!
Love this!
Very very useful, it’s appreciated !
the minutiae you focus on is great!
Best help
Glad to see your back is feeling better.
Great tips! Thanks
Great video! I've been wrong this while time on the tee box
Great video and tip! I use line on my ball and had been using it for setup the wrong way as you say it! However I put the line on the ball to mark the sweet spot using a CheckGoPro. My understanding was you line it up when hitting a driver or iron of the tee to maximize the distance and as such alignment on tee needs to be straight! Can you let me know what are your thoughts on this and if I need to align it straight or align it as you have shown? I will definitely try both methods at the course if I find it empty!! Thanks
this video uses a line anywhere on the ball to help align with aiming - just like an alignment stick and no more. The "CheckGo" puts the line in an exact place on the ball - around the circumference of any mis balance centre in the ball. your Q of how to align this balance centre with the aiming is not even considered.
The plastic ball marking stencils give you the opportunity to add a perfectly perpendicular second line. You use one line to aim your putt, you use the second perpendicular line to align your putter face parallel to. Parallel lines are easier for your eye to confirm than the perpendicular putter face to line.
That's great info. Thanks pal.
Good one, I'll give it a try.
Good tip
Excellent tip!
Brilliant observation, thanks
Brilliant.
Thks Matt for the tip ! « i walk the Line » J. Cash !!!! 👍😉
Wow.... Great Video.... Thank You
Put a color dot on ball. It gives you a “single” focal point. And it eliminates your inadvertent miss alignment. Was told this by golf instructor who was told by sports psychologist.
Love the channel. Just got a Question? Do you check your golf balls for mass center prior to putting on the line? And do balls still have seams? Keep up the good work!!!
Good tips
Great video thanks
You are the man! Thanks again.
Awesome!! Sir, would it be possible to find a specific phrase in the golf rule book, we are debating on this using line on tee ground issue.
Hey Matt... what is your opion about the triple track system Callaway has
Good morning- great video & tip using the line on the golf ball - awesome - sometimes I use the name of the golf ball as a line- hope that makes sense - all the best - Keith lucero from San Francisco -
Matt, do you see any benefit in spinning balls to balance them? Some say it helps make them fly straight.
Wow great tip
You are probably right; however, before golfers began drawing lines on their balls as alignment aids, Davy golfers used the manufacturers logo as an alignment tool. Consequently, golfers drew over the logo and extended it a little on both sides (as you did). So, it seems to me that the difference between using the logo or the line is the same thing as an alignment aid. Additionally, some golfers use abnormalities in the color of the green as alignment aids. So, my argument is, whether the golfer uses external alignment aids or integrated alignment aids, it’s all the same thing and doesn’t make too much of a difference. Additionally, professional golfers are allowed to use their caddy to verify and adjust their aim. And, they also have detailed diagrams of the contours of each green to help them visualize the slope and undulations of the green. How nice would that be for the average golfer? So, given all of the other things that are out there to assist the golfer in making an optimized shot/putt, why criticize a drawn-on line. And why stop at the ball? What about the alignment aids on the putter? How do you feel about Odyssey’s 2-ball putter that was/is designed as a visual aid to square the putter at impact. Please let me keep my drawn-on line, it gives me confidence what I step up to putt. Nice instructional video, by the way. Ciao
So, regarding the lines what do you think about the new Callaway Triple Track golf balls? Secondly, when hitting your balls in your video, how do you get the red tracking line that shows the path of your ball to appear in the video?
I pick one dimple and focus on it through my swing. On a good day I can do this. On a bad day I lose that focus. Your eyes have good days and bad days. After playing for many years your swing is consistent. Don't mess with it. It comes down to your vision that day. Your eyes will not do what they did yesterday. Making major adjustments in your swing is a mistake. Maybe a minor adjustment in alignment is all you need that day.
I thank God for giving us the land to play this wonderful game. I love golf. It's so damn fun!!
You started playing because it was so damn fun. It's supposed to be fun. Never forget that.
Clever. Personally, I have never used the line.
same here, it gets in the way
I always use it putting, never tried it on tee shots. Will try this morning
I’ve always looked at a line thu the ball thru an immediate target @ 1yrd way to my green target. I don’t want to hit my line or mark on the ball as you’ll have to remark it!
As a parent of kids who were little 10 years ago, I enjoy that you’re like Steve from Blue’s Clues for golfers.
That was a good tip...thanks. Which course?
Love it and keeping drinking eXpresso!
LOL!
Love your channel.
Not sure why you think the line on the ball should be illegal.
Should lines on putters be illegal as well?
As the rule say you can mark your ball ball as you wish right....
Good Idea !!!
awesome
gotta try this from the tee
