Obi Wans biggest thing was he did his best, his best to try and fulfill his promise to his master. But while I agree with Grandmaster Luke in the fact that I think attacments are fine. He also needed a Master more than he needed a Brother. I also think the fact that alot of (hell mkst of) the jedi didnt want to admit or give him the respect of the chosen one. Seems to me that the potential of the chosen one came down to the failures of both the Jedi Council and Sidious. By how they treated him and taught him, it pushed him to arrogance. The council was afraid of his power and limited him even though he was surpassing. They could have designed a new form of training for him yet they held too much to tradition. Sidious wanted to turn him to the dark side so much that he groomed him to give into his feelings too much and be consumed by them, therefore conditioning him to not think about the mysteries. Then they both pushed him into a devastating war and made him a general. It was the lack of compromise by both jedi and sith that compromised the potential of Anakin. That's one aspect of how he brought balance in my opinion.

Cause he failed him... after that Vader was just a tool he used for his own benefit, no longer was he set to one day take over the galaxy. Sidious knew he was no longer a threat to his rule (which he wanted someone powerful enough to rival him one day), that's why we rarely hear of him training Vader personally, and we've never heard him once speak about his master, or the things he learned from him... After his defeat and injuries, he was no longer worthy of having the information and abilities passed down to him.. As soon as someone capable of surpassing Vader revealed themself, he'd have Vader killed.. infact, he tried more than a couple times but it failed.
People say the suit is designed that way so that pain will fuel his anger and make him more powerful, please, there's a much better way of making him more powerful with more potential while maintaining the anger, he was never short on that and it only grew after Mustafar regardless of the severity of his injuries... A suit made new technology the Empire had access to instead of the outdated tech, the use of better and more sophisticated medical Droids, and then the use of Bacta as soon as possible, even if it was sprayed on him during the ride to the operating room and then submerge him whenever he was able..those would of done two things, prevent him from losing as much potential as he did by a good margin, including potentially saving his lungs. The advanced medical equipment, devices and droids may had the ability to replace his ear drums with artificial as well as regaining some sight through surgeries as well as bacta, which would also help his skin.. but they waited long past the window of bacta being truly useful, Vader doesn't get much gain if anything, he just uses it to escape and meditate.
Then the suit would allow him to move less inhibited and without the weaknesses of his normal suit, he probably wouldnt have to learn how to use a saber again because he could likely use his same technique and style as he did prior, maybe modified a bit but not like how he fought post injury in canon.. If he was truly afraid of Vaders potential, he would of never taken him as an apprentice to begin with, he would of stuck with Maul or Dooku, powerful enough to do what he needs, but no long term threat to his rule... What was his plan going to be for controling the power and ability of a non injured healthy vader? Nothing he can do outside of killing him.. So why decide that after being burned and losing all that potential? Cause it's not about being surpassed or threatened when he's a broken shell of his former self after losing the majority of his medachlorians and the potential they once provided Anakin... in reality, it was for an everyday harsh painful reminder of his failures and the embarrassment he brought onto both himself and Sidious by losing to Obi-Wan, not about power gained through the pain it provides... it was even worse losing to Obi-Wan in his eyes because Sidious never looked at as any sort of threat and he knew Anakin beat him the majority of time in their sparring..Sidious atleast respected Yoda's and Mace's power with the force, but not Obi-Wan.

A lot of people love to meme on the movements at 4:11. But real life wishes for more flashy saber combat aside, it actually made sense.
Both Soresu and Shien/Djem So were based on the momentum/deflecting incoming attacks principle. Soresu simply deflected it away while Djem So redirected it back to the opponent for a more powerful stroke. So at that point they were both anticipating each other's moves and building their own momentum to counter the other.
It puts their clashes in OWK into even greater perspective, since it was Obi-Wan's full embrace of the Force and tapping into protective emotions to unleash great potential that eventually countered Vader's raw physical power.

Great video as it's one off, if not my favourite subject.
I'm a huge fan of Mathew Stover's novel , The Revenge of the Sith.
As Palpatine's ship flew to Mustafar as 'Lord Vader was in mortal danger'. Sidious had a decision to make.
Does he save the smoking torso, OR should he have taunted Vader and then just kicked him into the lava at Mustafar.
The "Chosen One" lasted less than 30 hours as a fully fledged, fully limbed Being.
No matter how good Vader's suit, no matter how much anger and world destroying fury he could muster, the loss of his limbs severely limited Darth Vader. Palpatine knew this.
Sith Lightning was the key difference between mocking the Jedi light sabre and the power of the Sith.
Palpatine should have taught his trimmed down
    His way out . . .
To be taught the Darkside mysticism.
Sidious wouldn't teach Vader, and in all honesty, Vader was stuck in his Revenge fantasy, which was brilliantly highlighted in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
NOTE - I'm NOT saying the whole Obi-Wan Series was brilliant.
Anakin, now Darth Vader, was obsessed, to the point of nothing else matters BUT killing and (hopefully) torturing Obi-Wan.
Darth Sidious- at tge same time, deliberately broke the Rule of 2.
Sidious accused Yoda of arrogance blinding him. Sidious should have meditated on his own words.
    WHY
Sidious thought with the Jedi wiped out, the Death Star and using enforcers ( like Sister No. 69) AND including his top guard dog, Darth Vader, ( lets face it, thats all Vader wss . . . a viscious guard dog and errand boy for Sidious) he was safe, and his Empire would last for
    for thousands of years.
Breaking of the Rule of Two
assisted Vader to topple Sidious and his Empire in a mere 20 - 23 years.
Darth Vader, the time his son Luke Skywalker had become a Jedi had had enough of his 'beloved' Master . . . Palpatine.
Luke brought Anakin back and Palpatine, this time, became crystal meth as Vader threw him down an energy shift.

I wonder if Anakin's need to focus on combat was because of his upbringing as a slave? It makes sense that his compassion and need to help others, and the way he saw slaves being treated on Tatooine gave him a black/white sense of what is right and what is wrong. And being a mechanic gave him the feeling of being able to fix anything as long as he had the right tools. So when you combine his early fascination with Qui-Gons' lightsaber, and when he later receives his own lightsaber, it makes him feel he can fix any problem he encountered because he had the tool he needed. Hence his desire to harness his combat ability rather than explore the mysteries of the Force.

  • @Flaris
    @Flaris Рік тому

I think it just comes down to timing and circumstance. Anakin started training later and was exposed to a lot of action even as a kid. It's not surprising his interests would veer towards combat. All the more so since he probably always wished to go and free his mother from slavery someday. Then at a relatively young age...a war breaks out. Of course he's going to focus on combat skills ahead of the mystery of the force. The immediate issue and threat will take priority.
And then he suffered his colossal defeat. His loss and rage was through the roof. He wouldn't be in the mood at that point for delving into the force. The things he wants most he can't get and all that's left is venting his anger on any Jedi still alive to receive it.
If he'd been discovered earlier, if the Clone War hadn't happened, if Vader hadn't been defeated by Obi Wan, etc. If a few events had unfolded differently then maybe Anakin would have been up for exploring the force and not focusing almost exclusively on lightsaber combat.

Ironically, for a video that goes into Anakin's sabre style and blithely comments on how pretty much every Jedi he fought found it overwhelming, it avoids his record against Obi-Wan... which was not very good. Obi-Wan could have killed him on Mustafar (he could have killed him repeatedly, ignoring multiple openings, and really, really didn't want to hurt him, spending the entire duel on the defensive and begging him not to try and overcome Obi-Wan's environmental advantage. Guess what happened next) and barely worked up a sweat, and in their next serious duel a.k.a. when Obi-Wan had reconnected with the Force and WASN'T in the midst of a flashback/running for his life, Obi-Wan beat him even more brutally, overpowering him with the Force, destroying his respirator, slicing open his helmet and implicitly his head (that scar we see in Return of the Jedi is in the same place Obi-Wan cut open his helmet), then leaving him to scream impotently... and while Vader technically won on the Death Star, and did have the upper-hand, Obi-Wan got exactly what he wanted from that duel, turning into a Force Ghost as a final 'f**k you' to his apprentice.
Heck, the whole point of their interactions in 'Kenobi' was that until Anakin/Vader let go of his obsessive desire to prove he was the best, he would always be the Apprentice and Obi-Wan would always be the Master. And even decades later, on the Death Star, Obi-Wan is still taking him to school...

Imagine being far stronger in the Force than literally everyone else but all you want to do is wave a fancy glow stick around.

I thought about this too had he had studied and became as in the ways of the force and the power that master yoda did he would have led the Jedi Order And became Yoda's and Macy's successor

This is a perfect example of potential versus outcome. He should have been Qui-Gon's padawan, he would have been exposed to much deeper philosophical potential.
The thing is though, he fulfilled the prophecy perfectly. He brought BALANCE to the force, not some greater good balance, true balance. He destroyed the Jedi, and then there were only two. Two factions, two jedi, two sith. True balance, the way an unfeeling force might dictate it should be

It always seemed Anikan was content to follow, and never stepping up to seize control or take the rings of the galaxy he always seemed to stay in a subservient role perhaps this is due to his upbringing as a slave. True responsibility has seemed to frighten him almost. As Anaken he needed Obi Wan when becoming Vader he needed Padmay as Vader he needed palpatine and then needed Luke to overthrow palpatine. Never stepping up and saying I need nobody and just taking the galaxy by sheer will.
