I play a lot of national dex that use all mechanics with the modern buff and it's hilarious how mega lopunny got buffed a lot: Scrappy makes it immune to intimidate Close combat in the movepool Play rough for supereffecive on fight types Triple axel for dragon types
@@RocketPropelledMexican i wouldn't call fake out scrappy a niche, fake out is the most usefull tool you can have in competitive. The fact mega lopunny can fake out even ghost types is insane (example: flutter sash is forced to protect if it doesn't want to get the sash broke by fake out against mega lop)
@@dam777felover8 Most common set which is booster Flutter also outspeeds lop and threatens KO on turn 2, protecting vs lop isn't really too much of an issue. Lop is frail and its breaking power isn't really that high compared to other megas, so its not really worth the opportunity cost. It just doesn't have the bulk to stay on the field for long enough. There's a reason why megaLop wasn't really used in VGC historically. And even in theory formats like natdex doubles or that one VGC where they used the entire nonrestricted list it's never present. The only case I can see it having better results is if booster energy gets removed in gen 10. MLop isn't bad, hell its gotten some decent buffs with gen 8 movesets, but it also got a big nerf with Return/Frustration getting dexited. It's still definitely niche, I don't see it topping MGarde usage in nonrestricted formats. The niche still is scrappy fake out + after you doping and maybe a cal-S lead check (not counter) in restricted.
i know many hate it because of its centralisation, but mega kang was the pokemon that brought me back into competitive pokemon, the baby leaving the pouch was everything i ever wanted. thats why it will always be one of my most loved pokemon ever
I’ve followed vcg forever very loosely and have dabbled in battling myself and I’ve never been a numbers guy but I did not realize we were living in a world where 120 SpA is not that threatening
power creep in the games has gotten so bad that most megas are considered average or mediocre now... damn come on gamefreak give me back my big cannon boy and buff Swampert
Mega Metagross with its moveset from gen 8 onwards is crazy. Natdex DOU had a preview of this. Having heavy slam gives it a roll to OHKO every viable intimidate switchin with an average 120 BP move. Pairing with Rillaboom/Fini giving 130 BP steel roller nukes. Fantastic bulk. Even ironpress set was a valid sweeper. The most commonly used teams when it was legal was always screens.
Don’t forget base Kangaskhan also has Inner Focus, which is also immune to Intimidate plus not being able to get flinched (Meaning Fake Out got nothing on it). Incineroar is truly trembling at the site of it.

It just does a couple of useful things in one Pokemon package making it one of the easiest Pokemon to fit in your team. It’s just a solid supportive mon, not some crazy over powered Pokemon that many people make it seem as.

Incineroar hate is dumb just because it's a flexible Pokemon. Garbage like Urshifu, Fluttermane and Calyrex deserve far more hate over how obviously powerful they are designed to be.
Charizard gaining hurricane is probably the main way its able to take advantage of rain teams and possibly use it against urshifu. Dude did get a few moveset buffs since gen 7

It's so cool how Mega Pokemon get to use two different abilities at different points in a battle. Just imagine if Gamefreak let a pokemon use two abilities at the same time without having to time the switch; they could just use them As One.

Don’t forget my favorite move on Kanga - Seismic Toss. Since it does set damage, it’s just guaranteed 100 damage (50+50) to anyone it hits. Guaranteed 2HKO on nearly every mon and lets you focus on bulk/support 🙂 Far from the best set, but a crazy mix-up you need to be prepared for!
Gengar works great on dual mega teams cause it applies a lot of pressure from team preview. If you lead against it with anything that's vulnerable to it then the entire battle could be over due to how oppressive shadow tag is.
great list, imo! one of my favorite teams in... i think it was '15, was inspired by a mega gardevoir team you were showcasing on the channel. hopefully they bring them back someday!
For sure Kanga will be a beast if megas do come back next gen for sure! Scrappy buff is crazy! Metagross would be better with all the new tools in moves it has now!
At 7:54 not only did i get offended at my favourite restricted being bullied by Manectric, but Teravolt actually ignores Lightning Rod and can use electric type attacks like normal, it can even damage the mon with Lightning rod itself, trust me i tested it before
I would love to use mega kangaskhan when gen 10 comes out that would be cool I can imagine giving people 2os in best of 3s or winning single battle closed team sheet games with ease with it. But of course I make sure its teammates are good as well cause even the best mega evolution is not an island and needs help. That Mon embodies the idea that you don’t get between a mother and her child.

I coulda sworn Mega Venusaur would be on this list somewhere. It was one of the most versatile pokemon being able to counter weather, be an end game win condition and be versatile outside of its Mega form allowing you to run two Mega options on a team.
Imagine the horrors that we would have witnessed if M. Kangaskhan had trailblaze 👀 Also if garchomp had DD especially when mega that would have more than made up for the SP.atk buff, the speed drop was a bad decision though.
Smogon fans at this point will say Mega-Gengar because of Shadow Tag + Sleep + Nasty Plot (any boosting move really) being absolutely busted in singles, while Mega-Rayquaza is becoming rivaled at what it does (hi Koraidon & Miraidon).
@@georgbergsten6050 Very uninformed take, Mega-Gengar got banned before Mega-Rayquaza in Natdex Ubers. Besides mentioned combo of stats + movepool + Shadow Tag being giga busted, the speed creep of gen 8 + 9 and existence of Koraidon + Miraidon (who also got banned from Natdex Ubers because the access to Z-Moves in that format pushed these borderline mons through the edge) was kinda annoying for it, but in the end its still the ultimate wallbreaker and was deemed too powerful, it got banned at same time with Miraidon.
Primals completely neutralised Charizard Y but Dont know if regular groudon or Koraidon does the same. You can have them with sun abusers or have zard with sun abusers and other restricted like calyrex
The problem with mega evolutions is that there are just some better than others and you can only choose one so pokemons like mega beedrill are never going to be used. I find regional variants are much better at updating old pokemon sometimes a type and state change is all you need
With the addition of new moves like body press and mechanic changes a lot of mediocre mega evolved mons get better Inner Focus Mega Gallade becomes a hard hitting physical attacker Scrappy Mega Lopunny can't be intimidated and has the same speed stat as Flutter,Pao,Miraidon Mega Aggron is the best mega to use iron defense body press

Mega Lucario gave me a solid record in National Dex Ubers, win or lose. For me, Mega Lucario is my Pokémon equivalent to Dark Magician.

Flutter Mane still remains relavent even with megas
Flutter mane is basically mega miscreants, so
i was surprised how easily it invalidated mega salamence, mega rayquaza, and mega gardevoir with a OHKO
People told me that megas can never come back because they're too broken, and the only response I will ever give is Flutter Mane.
Crazy how many of them just lose to it, plus Yzard would be its new best friend

solution to.mega rayquazas stat spread: as dragon ascent only takes up 1 of 4 move slots just put a special move in one of the other 3 slots???
EV’s are the main reason players won’t do this, you’d want to hone in on one stat over the other to get the most out of a spread
