      @@elias8645 for me he plays different than novak. Medvedev has more precision on his shots compared to novak and maybe a better volley game(when novak was 25), and for me also a larger variation of shots. Imo has a unique game based on a really high tennis IQ

      @Christian Toth Medvedev is the second best counter puncher. The only problem is that Novak is the best counter puncher in the world. This is why Novak Daniil matches are so terrible for the Russian.

      I don't think he really moves that well. But because he so big, he covers the court well with a lot less strides than the average player .... he is getting better. Just needs to round out his game and find ways to win other than serving lights out

    Danniil is really effective at neutralising the big servers. Broke Isner 4 times in the Semi, and 3 by Opelka. Could make a devastating run in the US Open.

    That was brutal. Opelka chained together quite some lethal forehands in that rally and still loses that one. If his soul wasn't crushed before, it certainly must've felt like that after that point. That kind of point is hard to shake off for many.

    Great play by Reillly to get to the finals, and... Daniil deserves his ranking, so much fight, so much resistance, such great shot placement at critical points. Unorthodox but a true champion.

    Congrats..!!! So happy that Daniil won the Toronto masters 1000. He is a class act, and he always speaks the truth. I am a big fan of Daniil. It's nice to have him when Roger, Rafa & Nole leaves tennis. Hope he can keep his great form well into other surfaces too. Good luck Danny boy...!!!

    What separates Medvedev from the rest and in league with the Big 3, other than his mentality and attitude -- is he varies his game based on the opponent. And he approaches Tennis like solving a Rubix cube.
    He seemingly has answers for all the conundrums the opponent throws at him...should be nicknamed "The professor" 🙂

    Opelka looking slightly tired here at times. Medvedev playing a much smarter match than Tsitsipas did against Opelka. Controlling the tempo and his greater consistency making Opelka work.

      key is that danil has a two handed backhand, tsitsipas onehanded backhand return did not exist in the match , because it is almost impossible to return a kick serve bouncing 10 meters high on your one handed backhand

    Opelka has the ground strokes and serve. He just needs to develop more strategy and improve his net game. I like his chill personality.

      I like Opelka, but not his strategies (poor shot selection, inadequate depth on his groundies, poor speed of foot, and too much reliance on running around his backhand (which is more consistent than his forehand) to hit the big forehand. All this in trying to beat the second best player in the world ("backboard Danil"). Meddy has no discernible weaknesses and ( barring injuries) should soon become #1.

    So many young players today ignore the 2 shot pass. The best defensive players use the 2 shot pass almost all of the time. Medvedev is a master of this combination.

      @@fans-ed1td A passing shot is any shot (not a lob, or a direct shot to the body) that the player from the baseline hits against a player at the net. Like Lotus explained above, there were 2 passing shots, the first one cross court was not really meant to win the point, but it was low into the feet of Opelka, so that he had to reply with a weak high volley, which was then handled relatively easily by Meddy.
      The first shot is meant to prepare it for the second.

    Must say I really like Reilly. His self awareness, his tennis and personality over all. Whilst it’s nice he acknowledges “servebot” I don’t think he needs to dim his light as much as he does. Very good player for a man his height, he deserved to be in the final today. Great net game and massive forehand. Medvedev was too good today, his defensive skills are just amazingly good. Nice speeches from both. Love daniil’s interviews

    Medvedev's groundstrokeing so far behind the baseline combined with his hard court movement abilities meant Opelka had his points-off-serve, winners and forced errors cut in half. Medvedev might be the best defender of this generation

      Yeah, he watches where his opponent is then sends the ball off in a hard to reach place. great tactics against Opelka, as when he came forward to the net he had time to know where his placement shot should go.

    That match shows the difference between a future grand slam winner and a good tour player. Opelka has a good serve, powerful groundstrokes and decent net player, albeit limited movement. Medvedev has all that plus superior movement, superior serve returns and a superior counter attacking.

    Good game strategy from Medvedev. On the return game he places the ball at centre court with not too much speed making difficult for Opelka to find angles and produce heavy strokes.

      Bad shot selection on the drop shot at that point, I think he could have stuck to one more punch shot then an approach to the net as he was controlling the point. The drop shot was kind of sloppy but unfortunate.

    the hard court season after wimby is truly Medvedev's house. he's playing amazingly good at us open series and indoor hard courts. he won Cincy and Shanghai in '19, reached uso final also,in 20' he reached the semis of uso, won Paris and WTF. like u know he's gonna win something big. I root for him at uso. a real threat for Djoker.

Stefanos is very good on hard too, but he needs to level up his game on grass. I believe all 3-4 next gen players are one level behind Daniil, and I speak about Thiem, Zverev and Tsitsipas at the time.. I don't know if and when Rafa is coming back in form.
