- Hm.
Difficult. Just crazy difficult.
This piece difficulty is the second of le preux.
It was not only just difficult.
It have really dangerous risk. Because this piece leaps(jumps)
is just ignorantly difficult. Maybe this piece is one of most difficult mereaux etude.
And! Now i have two pieces of mereaux.
It's No.59:Elegie, No.60.
I will upload this pieces soon. And i'd like to ask you a question.
How about insert sheet music from next video?
Maybe mereaux, or anything. Anyway.
And i will play own pieces and my old pieces:)
So, when i upload mereaux no.59. And then, i will play
my preludes (Im composed 14pieces of prelude)
Im also composing too:) So.... Plz enjoy my videos..!

Dude... I don’t think you even realized what a historical feat you’ve just accomplished here. This is easily *easily* one of the most difficult pieces in the world of piano, and you have conquered it in such an amazing way!
I appreciate that you didn’t tense up your hands/fingers in the beginning. It’s easy to think that a Scherzo like this must have a hand-breaking tempo, but when you make it slower and more casual, it feels like I’m going on a walk in the park :)
Not to mention, that ending... That ending was INSANE!!! I didn’t even think it was possible, but you did it perfectly!! And the melody came out very clean!!! Your interpretation of this piece is perfect and one of a kind :) I don’t blame you for never playing this piece again. It definitely looks like it can cause injury if not played properly. Regardless, thank you so much for this masterful performance :)
Your comment is make confidence to me! Thank you so much!!!😊😊
Seonyong Hwang [Piano Player] I love when comment sections are wholesome and not terrible
Varun i think Richter could play this more fast
황선용Seonyong Hwang This is truly scrumptious. Although this etude is a true technical wall in front of a pianist, besides you technically nailing the piece, it sounds musical.
@@lisztomani4c I'm over here sitting with the moonlight sonata 3rd movement
Can’t get over the fact that this actually happened. This song’s impossible and you played it perfectly, not a single key was wrong. Unbelievable, really
Thx:))
I don't think it is humanly possible to play this and not get a single key wrong. He did get quite a few notes wrong, but it still sounds good. If you can play like this, you are a god, but if you manage to play every note right, you are beyond even gods.

Beethoven did not play the sonata. Liszt was the first one to play it. Ever. That we know of, that is. IDK if Beethoven could have, but there is no record.
This piece sounds like a combination of Alkan, Liszt, Czerny, and Thalberg.
Amazing playing by the way.

Now that I've seen the other two performances currently on UA-cam, and the notated score, I have to say that I agree with the commenters who described this post as historic. Yours is the first genuine performance of this piece. The other two are approximations from two opposite directions -- accurate but literally mechanical, and human but sadly a mess. Your performance here is groundbreaking, and maybe also fingerbreaking. It's actually musical! It's not perfect, but you're close enough that it doesn't need to be. I really look forward to hearing you as you go beyond the solar system into musical interstellar space!
Why isn't this guy already famous. This is just amazing
XD THX!
Bravissimo Hwang! I got acquainted with Mereaux through this video. I appreciate your efforts. You nailed it. Bonne chance! And looking to see more of you I'll remain. 👏
Congrats man. You made my day. It's a great human performance (at midi recording you find on YT played in lesser than 4 minutes you may conclude this is ugly music whereas played properly in 5 minutes it's a masterpiece). If you don't look at your hands you may even conclude it's not that hard and this is a compliment to you as it means you have full command of this, possibly one of the hardest pieces of piano history, more than Alkan's masterpieces.
Thank you. 🙂
4:30 it's so fast that even the camera can't keep up with it. Nice work. I've been watching your videos for more than a month.
This and no.60 especially are unplayable pieces, maybe you and literally 1 or 2 others out of billions can play it, maybe you are the only human alive who can, maybe Marc Andre Hamelin if he tried... You make comments about taking exams etc.. In your videos which also makes me laugh, as if you need to prove anything to anyone, how could any teacher be near this standard to judge you. Surely exams are completely beneath you? You've mastered the technical art of piano years ago I'd presume. Also it's quite sickening you have such low viewing figures and overall attention when you get piano players with over 2 million subscribers playing tik tok music and meme stuff that requires zero talent or effort but are praised as geniuses by the general public.
XDDD Thx so much! :)
@@wuzz he's not this piece is insanely hard
i think that more then one or two people can play this. if this man was actually the only one or one of the few who can play this, then he would be much more famous. the greats, kissin, lisitia, horowitz, nicolai petrov, who played liszts nearly impossible liszt paganini etudes 1838 version can probably play this. unfortunately horowitz and petrov died, so they cant really play it.
@@awe331 thing is they can very likely play this at this tempo, but concert pianists don't generally like to play pieces this slow compared to real tempo. i don't think the would like to play anything 20% slower than written tempo, however it's already this difficult at like 40% slower speed

2:37 Low notes are 554354 for the same reason as in 0:25. Right hand non-octave tones can be played with 24.
2:45 54323154321321 Also come on why this section again?
3:11 1-2-3-1-2-3-4-51
3:12 Left hand is 51-2-1-1521-2-1-1521-2-1-15213-1-2-15212/3-1/2-3251-2-1-3251-2-1-3251-2-1-51-2-1-1521-2-1-1521-3-4-45321-4-5-4521-4-5-32541-2-1-3251-2-1-3251-2-1-512
3:15 Starting from A#: 2-1-2-3-4-5-4-5-1-3-354-3-2-5-1-3-354-3 (Linger on F to build tension)
3:19 For the grace notes, play 1231231 from A to put the grace notes in better reach.
3:20 Right hand is 2-1-2-3-4-5-4-5-1-1-132-1-2
3:22 Play every third with 24/42. Right before each octave (Not the fast run of octaves, but the ones with the thirds in between.), pause a little bit, to make jumps easier, and to build tension.
3:27 Right hand=15-234. Afterwards play each diminished chord 1245/5421.
3:30 I prefer to crescendo here and smash the first octave after the key signature change and suddenly go quiet.
3:32 See my thoughts on 1:16.
3:37 This part is kind of difficult for me since he forces me to change fingers on almost every note. I use 5251525151525151225
3:43 Use my fingerings for 0:54 (right hand) and 2:34 (left hand).
3:46 OKAY, THIS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT (Remember, I can't do 52 octaves.)
3:59 I use 5-31-42-513-4-5321 for the left hand.
4:04 For that configuration: 5-31-42-5-31-521
4:12 Left hand: 5-31-2-5-31-521-5-31-2-5-31-521-5-41-32
4:19 Left hand: 51-31-51-513-2-5321
4:31 It's pretty much a necessity to learn to play this part softly. It makes it easier, I promise. Right hand fingerings are:
51-3-4-3-2-4-3-1-5-4-1-4-3-1-5-4-1-4-3-1-5-4-1-5-4-1-4-3-1-5-4-1-4-3-1-5-4-1-4-3-1-5-4-1235-2-5-4-1-5-4-1235-2-5-4-1-5-4-1235-1-5-4-1-5-4-1
4:38 I prefer not to use 24 on those thirds, it doesn't make sense to me to jump further than you need to. Use 12 on the thirds, and 13 on the fourths and tritones.
The few three note chords should be played as follows:
123 (DFG)
124 (FGB)
234 (ABD, this makes it easier to catch the next octave because it's so much farther down compared to the one before it.)
123 (BDE)
4:45 For THAT ONE PARTICULAR THIRD between E and G#, I use 24 because it makes it easier to catch the next octave because it's so much farther down than the one below it.
4:47 See my notes on 3:22.
Thanks, I was wanting to learn this!
Wow incredible. You know how much people care and are passionate when you see this much constructive criticism. Great job!
I disagree with your comment on 4:38. Yes, you have to jump further if you play the thirds with 23 or 24, but it's much harder to jump this quickly from thumb to thumb. Playing with different fingers makes this section a whole lot easier.
Btw are you going to post your performace at a bit higher speed? I'd love to see more people play this piece.
@@tomasjosefpiano8902 AP and SAT right now :(
Hopefully I'll have more time to polish this during the summer :D
I understand how you got from ""thirds with 24" to "different fingers makes this section a whole lot easier", but why does the different fingers make the section easier? I'm just curious and want to better understand your reasoning.
Edit button ignores me. I forgot to mention that I plan to record a few videos for guild, so I may upload this. If I ever grt around to it, it's probably happening either before early June, or sometime in August. :P
EDIT: It suddenly works again???
I know that the fingerings with the sixths and the black key octaves with white keys below are definitely suboptimal, but in that case it's me physically unable to play the optimal fingerings.
You are heading toward a career as a super-virtuoso. Absolutely astonishing.
Thank you! :)
The part about 100 notes after 4:47 and in between 4:48 is awesome
WOW. You play this so well. You know how many pianists would love to have this talent? You play this so casually, too, as if it's nothing. Wow.
My thoughts after learning this piece so far:
0:17 is really difficult. I HAVE to use 51-41 because of my hand size.
0:25 I just use 112312 for the bottom notes, the jump of a half-step with the thumb is worth the reduced difficulty of jumping from 2 instead of 3 to the next octave. For left hand I do 51-51-51-512-1/3-2, depending on what notes are being played.
0:34 112321 so I don't have to use 2 on the bottom note and on the chord right after.
0:39 No need to play every melody note with 1. 51-2-1 will do (With 5 on the grace notes).
0:40 For the large grace note leaps, it helps to rotate the wrist like with smaller grace note leaps.
0:42 Okay, those jumps on the right hand to play the melody an octave higher are pretty difficult.
0:44 That jump can be dealt with by lingering on that "chord", as if you're slowing down to end but then going onto the next section. 151-3-2, where the beginning 1 and 5 are for grace notes.
0:50 You can also deal with that chord in the same way.
0:51 You don't need to do 5 on both the low notes. Do 5-4(31)-2 and each key gets its own finger , making things slightly easier there.
0:54 I'm the one weird guy who doesn't like changing fingers on repeated notes. I just play all the Es with 2, and the repeated notes afterwards with 11-11-21-22-11-21-33-22-12 and the other notes with 2-4-5-4-3-4-5-4-3, and the chord right after as 145. Then I spam that E with 1.
1:00 11-11-21-22-11-22-11-12-11, 2-4-5-4-3-4-35-34-35
1:03 OKAY THIS IS DIFFICULT. (I'm incapable of 52 octaves.) If there isn't an octave I play that note with 3, otherwise i play it 51. The low notes are always 2. I'm pretty sure that this part is easy for you, since you can do 52 octaves.
1:15 Normally the left hand would be a non-issue but it's hard to see where exactly to play when you're jumping constantly between 51 and 2 on the right hand.
1:16 5-431-2 for the left hand.
1:22 For that different left hand configuration, I use 5-431-24.
1:28 Starting from D#, the chromatic scale can be played 1-2-1-2-1-2, etc, if a D# is in the upper voice play it with 4. The rest of the upper voice is 5.
1:32 Left hand: 5(1)-32-12, right hand: 15-2-15-2
1:45 For the last few notes of the chromatic scale: 1-2-3-1-2-3-4-5 (Starting from A)
1:48 As the weird repeated notes guy:
Right hand: 51-43-32-21-43-32-215-42-21-43-32-21-215-21-32-1235-32-32-1235-32-21-2135-31-12-1
Left hand:
51-532-1-1-5-52-1-1-5-521-3-3-5-531-2-2-5-52-1-1-51-51-2-42-51-51-2-42-51-52-1-421
1:54 As the weird repeated notes guy again:
5-5-4-4-3-3-2-2-1-1-51-4-2-2-1-4-3-3-2-2-1-1-51-2-1-1-2-2-1235-3-2-2-1-2-1235-3-2-2-1-1-2135-3-2-2-1
1:59 Linger here to build up tension.
2:00 As the weird repeated notes guy again: Play the repeated notes alternately as 51111 and 15555.
2:11 Left hand repeated notes: 14444-11111-11111-11111-11111
Right hand repeated notes: 11111-15555-15555-15555-15555-11111-11111-11111
2:14 Left hand: 532-4-531-4-532-4
2:17 Right hand: 123121
Left hand: 321321
2:18 I just play the first two notes of that one measure as 14, everything else as 15 or 51
2:22 1-5-1-4-5-5-1-4-15-4-2
2:25 See 1:22.
2:27 15 and 51 again.
2:29 My particular fingering forces me to use 135-1-2-1-2-1 there.
2:34 112233511122511122513434

0:17 I CAN'T reach that well with 15-24, I have no choice but to use 15-14 (or 15-15, but that's even worse :P)
0:51 I see your point, but I don't want to play those two bass notes one octave apart both with 5.
0:54 1:00 I personally really don't like changing fingers, but I see your point, you can start to use another finger before you've fully released that one key with your original finger.
1:03 I can't reach octaves with 25, leaving me to use 15 and 2.
1:48 1:54 2:00 2:11 For me, it's my same strange unwillingness to change fingers on repeated notes, unless necessary to get somewhere else.
Now that I think about it, why does no one ever tell you to change fingers in twinkle twinkle little star and other "starter" pieces with repeated notes? If one does not learn to change fingers from the start, it becomes harder to learn to do so later.
ok man you have got to be kidding me, you played the hardest piece man i cant believe this 😂 so underrated
Wonderful achievement. If it were not for exceptionally gifted pianists such as you, we would never this extraordinary music.
Amazing! Love watching your technique with this camera angle.
Moving the front parts of the finger independently from the rest of the hand like that, with that high arc between the joints, reminds me of Ivan Pogorelich's technique.
Seems to be working very precisely and efficiently for you, maybe i should try that.
But seriously, the part from 4:30, especially 4:37 with the fast jumps is insane. How do you manage to be so precise there? any advice your teacher gave you can share?
Haha, Thank you so much:) This piece is just practiced alone:)
@@seonyonghwang Did you give your teacher any advice? :P
@@pawncube2050 Wat😂
@@seonyonghwang Do you have a teacher, and if so what tips, or advice did they give you.
If he had a teacher, he would have to teach the teacher
*Raucous applause!*
Excellent rendition.
THX XD
How can anyone dislike this? I can't see anyone playing like that.
And "mediocre no offense" argument holds 0 ground here
@@ryzikx Yeah fr
4:38 you do notice how he plays the lower LH voice with his 2nd and 3rd finger instead of 1st and 2nd? It seems to benefit more strength and stamina
Another of my favourites! Fabulous technique. Don't you have record labels knocking on your door yet?!
😂😂
Im still amateur..
@@seonyonghwang Not for long! 😉
Seonyong Hwang [Classical Piano Player] - I refuse to believe you are an amateur!! Your technique here is godlike.
@@Varooooooom Haha, Thank you so much for say like that😂
HOW IS IT EVEN HUMANLY POSSIBLE?!?!? OMG!!! Amazing performance.
So, here is the most difficult piano work of all time. Very interesting.
Actually there are harder works than this
Just watch sorabji
What kind of impossible, sell your soul to the devil madness did i just watch. Dude that was absolutely flooring.
He needs a cigarette after all.
(I was referring to the piano, not the pianist)
holy crap that coda was flawless!
I really wanna learn this, any tips? Magnificent performance by the way!
I tried and got only about 45 seconds through! Firstly, divide the piece into sections, and learn each section individually. Learn two bars at a time and focus on the extremely difficult left hand. The right hand it much easier (until the end of course)! Try to practise each section really slowly with a metronome and speed up 1-2 bpm at a time, it’s really slow and laborious but it’s the only way I could get it up to tempo and not make it a jumbled mess of notes and key bashing. Good luck!!!
I can't believe ur still hearting comments even after 1 year
What a wonderful piece. You shall be so famous that everyone can be impressed by your performance!
This. Was. Awesome.
Thank you😀
@@seonyonghwang 👍
@@seonyonghwang can you please play Liebestraum No. 3? It's my fav piece and it will be a piece of cake for ya.
@@bhooshanpandit1344 When I have time, i will do:)
You've listened to one of the hardest etudes in classical music history.
U should make a spotify account! This piece isnt on spotify cause almost no one can play it. Please consider it!!
i literally didnt think this song was playable by a human, you’re from another world, insane performance
THX XD
Well this piece actually sounds pretty good. Honestly the only etude I've ever heard that sounds good from Mereaux. I will play this for fun.
haha "play this for fun". I will cry just learning this piece.
@Classical416 I feel like this is more manageable than etude 24. All those hand crossings make you tired very easily. But the coda on both of the etudes 24 and 45 are insane to pull off.
indeed@@Montu-pc5gp
Incredible performance! You had accomplished what was thought impossible! What is the hardest piece that you could play?
Bad guy
omg so smooth that's crazy wow amazing interpretation
so good :0000 nice performance!
anyway can you try Liszt's Paganini Etude No.4 1838 version next time ? gonna be a crazy challenge xD
Thank you so much! Okay, I will think!
I gave up learning that
4:37 even the camera cant handle it
You can defenitely hear the Chopin, Liszt, and Alkan influence. Very typical of the Romantic Era, and just as insanely technically challenging for absolutely no reason other than to just make it hard. 😂 You played this very well. Keeping your fingers towards the front, especially at the end, like you did, is so essential, and you did it so well! Bravo!
4:28 wtf
Waiting for the hard part.
Kidding! Great work!
4:58... "I'm done" at the bottom 😂😂😍
