Oh hey look I’m in this! Lol. I’m really glad you made this and especially those questions at the end it made it so much easier. I do love band, I don’t want to quit, and I believe I want to make others like it as well. Wow maybe I do want to be a band director. :)
Good luck! It's a long and bumpy road full of self-doubt, practicing, and realizing that band directing is mostly not band related. 🤓 But other than that, it's great! lol
Awesome video, very inspirational, and love the new logo. I went 13 years without playing my trumpet. I was in the Marine Corps, got out and got a regular job(s) all the while wanting to be a band Director (ever since high school). I am now a Music Education major. I love band and I love music though sometimes it has its difficult moments. I am currently 31y.o and come across others that play so much better or are just better than myself at other tasks and it can make you feel really intimidated, but you are very right. You can’t give up, you can’t quite especially when this is where your heart is. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and have shared your page with a couple of Band Directors that I know. Keep up the awesome work and thank you for doing what you do!
That's awesome! It can be tough trying to jump into music after leaving it, so I applaud you for that! And thanks for the shares! I don't think there are many band directors creating youtube content out there. I'm hoping there's a market for it!
Awesome video. Really informative and helpful for aspiring band directors. Just a suggestion, but perhaps new directors would benefit from a video with any tips you may have for them to help them with their first job interview. I know when I started off I was very nervous about interviewing for a teaching position and the advice I gained from mentors really helped me. On a separate note, I'd just like to say that I am a big fan of your channel and throughly enjoy your videos. Thank you for the awesome work that you do! :)
Thank you so much! I have been brainstorming over what I might include on an interview video. That will definitely be a video topic coming up. Thank you for watching the channel!! I'm working on a video about networking that I'll load later this week, hopefully.
Yo Schumann its been awhile my mentor its guud to see how far you come and to see your still enjoying what you do best I hope you remember casue your the one reason why I have rhe pride and joy of band ever since you came to woodland acres middle school
i had a bad director that killed my joy for band. four years of twiddling my thumbs not knowing what to do with my life, i came back around to it and i start my music ed degree this fall :)
Hey I have a question!! Do you think band director jobs will last the next 20 30 years? This is my only concern of pursing a music education degree! Any answers will suffice!
That’s a good question! The short answer: Most schools will always have a band and a band director. The cultural and community expectations of having a band at the football games and to march in parades keeps bands in the schools. The long answer is: I believe that most bands are currently and will continue to shrink in size due to the increase of electives offered in many districts (CTE, engineering, coding, etc.). Bands will likely not go away, but I do see a downsize in staff size, budget, and student enrollment in the next few years.
Question, do you have to know how to play every instrument to teach band?, because my band director always knows what fingerings and notes and all that stuff about every instrument.
Yes, you learn that in college music school. Woodwind methods, brass methods, percussion, strings, and voice, too. Usually a director will have areas of specialty though.
In Texas, it’s not bad. Middle school and high school assistant directors can expect to make $60-70k, in most suburban or urban school districts. Head directors can make $90-100k+!

This made me have a new perspective on band directors.
And why they helped the students and push them to become better players

@@thefuturemillionairebanddi4528 Ok!! thank you very much for the response!
does that mean we need to buy new merch?
I guess that means that I need to *make* new merch! I definitely need to update my store.

Hey that’s Fort Worth!
I remember the really old days of you presidential aspirations.
There will be a time when I need to leave band directing and go fix the world. Not yet, though!
How much is the salary? My band teacher said it’s a low paying job.

Dave Ramsey sent me.
Much appreciated lol!
