I was helping a jazz band where the BD never rehearsed anything. It was start to finish, on to the next part. I got them in an hour to play 8 bars with a feel like a very good band. The kids loved it. Its so much more important to teach to play rather than teach to get through a concert months later. Just my 2 cents
Omg #5 was my life when my band director went on maternity leave. Our sub was a jazz player and they didn’t know how to conduct so I just had to play jazz music for like 2 months, as a tuba player haha.
Dave, you made me laugh a lot! This video is great! Behind the great saxophone player you are, there's a guy which is extremely talented for finding stereotypes and representing them, this means you're a great observant and actor. I enjoyed this video a lot as I did with "10 types of saxophone soloist" series and the "Grammy Band audition 2018". I don't understand why you still don't have your own show (TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime or whatever). Keep doing these videos!
I remember going to observe a band class and one teacher was beating his music stand with a drum stick while conducting his band...saw lots of examples of what NOT to do...!
Thank you for the additional DAD jokes, I hadn't heard them before and can't wait to drop them on my boys! Your videos crack me up, Dave. I enjoy your performances, too.
I had a jazz band director who stood in front of the band directing practically every note..... Another one would wave his arms so much I'd swear he would fly away, he even directed the last note....
How about the teacher that tells you to play something and halts you every two notes? By the end of the class you have not played one single lick. And how about sending tons of homework and not remembering he did next day? One more, how about the one that does not prepare his lessons and just improvises something on the go that has no continuity with what he taught yesterday? Yeah, that is why I ended up teaching myself through internet... Not the best option but still improving and enjoying it!
Dude whiplash is such a good movie I assume that is what you were going for on dr. whiplash right? I dont know which one was my band dirrectors honestly my middle scholl one was "again!" just basicaly picky and I liked it, then highschool was something I cant explain he was very unoragnized but could expalin things very well and challenged us.
Unfortunately it was people like Dr.Whiplash. He was a overqualified band director, his name is Corey Curtis. He is in the FBA Bandmasters association here in South Florida. In the 8th grade much of our band had left, he was too mean and strict always yelled at people. He was always too angry to listen. One time he made a kid cry, said kid did not come back for band the next year. It was moments like these that made me angry and frustrated, which made me lose interest in band. I wonder where I would have been if I didn't have a Dr.Whiplash.
Dave, I have an question to you. I played now over 3 years on a yamaha Student saxophon and I wan't to buy a advanced saxophon do you have some Tipps for me? Mr. Saxophon
My band director is moving onto another school I hope I don’t have a sucky band director or a lame one just trying to keep my head up and hope I guess.
Which one is YOUR director?? If you have any other types let me know! There WILL be a part 2 :)
"The Mr. Pollack"
My band director is like the sarcastic type and always sounds under enthusiastic.
When your band director literally gets nominated for a Grammy and is such a good musician and educator he resembles no one on this list
The Mr. Pollack
I had a #4 band director in high school. The jokes were funny the first time, but he would do that every single day that it got annoying.
#5 is alternately titled "Every Jazz Festival Clinician".
Hah!
Actuly so true
facts!!!
..yeah lmao
I've never read a truer statement
lmaoooo count off carl! a 1, a *3*
The emphasis on *3* was pure gold 😂
@KSjazz same here!!!
Mr Chill, aka “Every college drumline tech/ga.” You know, the ones who studied abroad earning a certificate in Tabla? Also marched the Bluecoats.
Wow the Kenny G scale is really engraved on your board. Lucky man
I'm so glad someone noticed it!!
Number 7 is my band director who claims they used to play gigs all the time.
You forgot the teacher who calls out flat or sharp when one person isn’t in tune lol but I laughed at the parrot one😂
Oh there will be a part 2!!
Dave Pollack Cool I can’t wait now!!

I once team taught with Mr. Chill. It was the most excruciating year of my teaching career.
Haha the performer one is my jazz director for sure! These teachers always have chops and are humble lol
"You'll learn that... Never" I laughed so hard at that.
6 and 10 bring me back to high school.
Glad you liked it!

#11 (aka me) - "OK let's run that one more time...last time...promise..."
Oh man me too!

Haha, so glad you liked it!! I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

One more time.

Thanks so much!! I have TONS of dad jokes.
@@DavePollack Yeah, I do too...much to my kids' dismay!
I had a jazz band director who stood in front of the band directing practically every note..... Another one would wave his arms so much I'd swear he would fly away, he even directed the last note....
Haha!! I’ve seen that way too much at jazz festivals.
Glad my band director would start our jazz band and then walk off stage and talk to other band directors while we were playing.
Count off Carl was hilarious Dave!!! I love this stuff you think up. Mr Chill gets a nod too. These were priceless keep on keepin’ on brother
Thank you!!
I Love this Series
lol, my orchestra director was definitely a bit of #6 with the extremely extended snapping before we played anything
Ah, good ol' count off Carl.

I bet dave is a mix of all of these
JLCO... A player counts off and band plays.. no one in front shaking their rear end.. refreshing.
Well yea...I'm talking about public elementary/middle/high schools for this video, hahah
This is a work of art 😂
10 types of private teacher next?👀😳
My first week of student teaching I was hardcore #9 😂
Dude my band director is literally number 3 XD
The Performer is just giving those kids something to aspire to... ungrateful little girl
Hahahahaaaa
Lmao my BD hears the bell ring, but she won’t let us out until we finish the song. This is why the band kids in my school are always late.
my middle school director is definitely the best friend. Let me tell you, we don't learn ANYTHING in that class.
Nahh those puns were actually funny tho 😂😂 idk if that’s just because I’m a dad jokes enthusiast or not it’s quite my FORTE
You're REEDING too much into them. (it's because you love dad jokes and therefore are a scholarly person, much like myself)
#8 my band director is more chill mixed with #4 because he sometimes tells jokes
If I was a band director how would I teach?
You would teach high
13 hours of band a day
Mr. pollack is all combined
Dude whiplash is such a good movie I assume that is what you were going for on dr. whiplash right? COUNT OFF CARL HAHA

Dr. Whiplash tho
I would be #2 the best friend if I became a band director
I’ve had a #7 teacher try to tell an elementary school kid that he’s bad at the clarinet...
Oh jeez
number 4 😀
Hey, I’m self-aware.
Dave,
I have an question to you. I played now over 3 years on a yamaha Student saxophon and I wan't to buy a advanced saxophon do you have some Tipps for me?
Mr. Saxophon
So you have not taught your band class a note and a week has gone by? 🤣
My director is #6
Very good 🌸
Thanks!
Lol @ #7
I’m definitely number 10
TEACH HOW TO READ RHYTHMS
Dave Pollack ok
My band director is moving onto another school I hope I don’t have a sucky band director or a lame one just trying to keep my head up and hope I guess.
