I've been fishing with my dad as a kid and your videos have inspired me to take him fishing and land the Big Fish that he so desperately dreamt of as an island boy
The Navionics/Google Maps bit was a revelation. It's going to change my whole approach to surf fishing.
The navionics link is just what I've been looking for. Nice 1.
Enjoyed this one and very informative too, thank you.
You can't beat fishing for wrasse on lures, what a cracking couple of fish they were 👍
This guy needs a show on the Discovery Channel.
- That would be incredible. Imagine being able to share our passion with that many people 😆🎣
Out with Jeremy Wade in with John Locker 🐟
Great idea!
@@darraghkilduff2380 collab of the two would be legendary
@@jbx5709 Jeremy spends too much time talking about hocus pocus. I just want to know how to catch big pollack 😂
My favourite channel on UA-cam, you don't know what a life saver to me you and Fish Locker family have become. I had an accident 9 weeks ago and remain in hospital, so when it's tough for me, you are a real comfort to watch, the St Michaels Mount video was a blessing. x
- I hope you are soon on the mend and up and about Kev. We will do our best to keep you entertained in the meantime. 😊
The video did indeed show up well John. The explanation was quite riveting, very clear & very much to the point. Gosh, they were two stunning fish to go with it. Love how you take so much care in handling your fish. Great job my friend, Don from South Aust.
Glad the video was interesting for you Don. 👍🏻
One of the very best on UA-cam period, very informative, family friendly, funny just what I need when I'm chilling out after a hard days work, best of wishes from Barcelona :)
- Thank you very much Ryan. Best wises to you and have a great evening 😊
Never ever stop learning from your videos, from the programmes you use to locate areas to fish to the amount of prep you do. You also demonstrate the type of rigs you use and then go further by catching two of the most beautifully coloured wrasse I've ever seen. Great filming and as always thanks for posting.
- It is my pleasure David. I hope this video helps people not only find more fish but also appreciate the work that is required. Take care my friend and give our love to the family. 😊
Oh I'm so thankful for a new video from you. Every tv channel in the states has a bunch of crazy stuff on. This gives me a sense of peace. I appreciate your videos so much.
- I can imagine Barbara. I am not fully up to date but things over there do seem to be a little confusing and stressed.
@@TheFishLocker It sure seems that people have lost all sense of reason.
That's a great little mark. Good shout on the random wave thing. Father got 4 stitches in his leg at that exact mark after getting washed off back into a gully shore side. I was just a teenager then. First time I ever heard mother swear at Dad 😂
- Those freak waves can be hell especially on an exposed area like that.
Brilliant wrasse John, love the colours, just wonderful. Great tips for cross checking depths and drop off’s . Thanks for this one mate, loved it. Graham 🎣🎣🎣
- My pleasure Graham. I hope the video helps folks out. 😊
This is the first video of yours that I've watched and what a refreshing change to actually learn so much in such a short time. Your enthusiasm shines throughout and your fish care is second to none. Those wrasse were stunners and your reaction was probably mirrored by anyone viewing the footage, such was the nature of your response. Super stuff!
I am simply sharing what I know and love doing in a simple and honest way. I love my fishing and I am passionate about the natural world. Welcome to our channel and I hope you enjoy the rest of our content. 😊👍🏻
Excellent tutorial for shore sea fishing. This is something I am just learning though I have fly fished for salmon and trout here in Alaska for 40 years. I love the variety of species the ocean offers and have been really enjoying my new thing. I like the light aspect. No worries about boats and trailers etc...Thanks for the great video, John.
- I am glad that you are enjoying the videos and finding passion in the sport sir. Take care and have a wonderful day. 😊
Excellent vid John , so interesting and knowledgable, thanks for all your fishing vids

Another fabulous lesson and insight into lure fishing. Loved the info on the Navionics/ Google maps. Finally what cracking wrasse caught on the methods you showed us last night.
Cheers mate it was a pleasure to watch.

Great video again john I loved the online maps brilliant better then the old survey maps and what a lovely couple of fish looks like you have found a nice mark and we'll explained rigs keep safe mate tight lines
- Glad you enjoyed the video David. I hope it all made sense? I get asked this a lot and have been thinking on the best way to explain it. 😉🎣
Also glad to see recommending a lookout for random wave. even seasoned fisherman forget that. (Guilty myself)
- Safety first. It only takes one slip and you can be gone.
Great video John matey. Very informative for all fishermen no mater what experience. My Dad always say's If you can't learn something from everything then you can't learn at all. Love to the family buddy as always.
- That is true mate, every day is a school day. 😊
Fantastic and very interesting.I didn’t realise how much legwork you put into your sport ,but it gives a good dividend to you or at least today did .please keep them coming .
You have no idea, and this legwork goes into every mark and every video. Even the ones you don't get to see because they don't make it UA-cam.
I'm from the U.S. and love fishing. I watched a couple of your videos and they are awesome! Thanks for the great content and keep up the great work!
- Thank you very much Beau, welcome to our channel and I am glad that you are enjoying the videos. 😊🎣
Absolutely fantastic, I have never seen a video with so much detail on how to find fishing spots.
I hope the video helps folks out Scott. It I something I know many people struggle with starting out fishing as no-one is ever willing to share the skills or the marks. Hopefully this will help change things. Please pass the video on to your friends if you think it will help them. 😊
Really enjoyed this in prep for my bass fishing holiday in June. My mates taking me away to west wales for the weekend but I wanted to know a bit before turning up. Great video!
I hope the video is helpful to you Jack. 👍🏻🎣
All came out beautifully. Great video, and thanks for introducing me to that nav app, very interesting to have a quick look at it and see the different pier depths around Port Phillip Bay
I'm glad it helped Damien. 😊
Love it when you go over what you can use and what you could catch, were I fish for mackerel I don’t need to see were birds or seals are birds sit on the wall opposite and resident seal Sammy watches you from the dock lol. you know what I have noticed about you, you always find the time to reply to everyone's comments 😎 it must take some dedication. It is a really rare thing to see this on your tube channels and I'm sure you subscribers including myself really appreciate the interaction with you.
- Thank you Kieran. It does take a lot of time but it is something I said I was going to do when I started the channel, so I plan to continue for as long as I am able. 😉
@@TheFishLocker 👌👍
The wrasse were special John, the colours even more so, I like the idea of putting lures into individual tubes as it prevents a treble hook nightmare, in the past I've hooked them on the inside of a bucket but as you say if it falls over you have lures all over the place, I'll have to come round to your way of doing things for a simpler life!! I use the I-Boating site for my recce homework which is similar to the Navionics chart viewer, I think they're indispensable for finding depths & potential places to fish, as ever great work!!
- I'm a simple man mate. I do my best for a simple life. Haha. I have just gotten the relief shading for the Navionics app. It is incredible.
Wow! I watch your videos till the end just to hear you say, All the very best!!! You have a kind way of saying nice words 😊

That was brilliant mate great work really enjoyed this wish I was there giving it a go. The colour of them wrasse was amazing you would think they was fish of the great barrier reef!!!! Awesome vid as always mate cracking stuff. Tight lines and all the best 🎣🎣🎣
- I agree mate. They would not look out of place in an aquarium somewhere would they!!! Tight lines bud. 😊
I love the care you take when unhooking and returning fish. Also nipping down your barbs and replacing trebles with single hooks where practical. It's not only kinder on the fish, but easier to unhook them. And if you've ever stuck yourself with a barbed hook, easier to unhook yourself too.
- Absolutely. Just because we can take these fish for the table does not mean we shouldn't show them respect and compassion. 😊
Great video John, those tips on navi and the maps together is top work. Already had a look here in Central belt Scotland and found a few new spots to recce.
I spend a lot of my free time researching potential marks like that. 😉👍🏻🎣
Love your videos, so professional, polished and informative. You have a lovely family, we share a few connections. I am ex RN, 30 years an RAF technician with a love for fishing and the outdoors. Like most anglers John I am chomping at the bit for lockdown to end so I get out fishing again, one of the things I miss most is the sound of the waves and the sea lapping over and against the rocks, This video was so real for me it was the next best thing to being there, excellent entertainment and so relaxing to watch and very educational for novice anglers, great work John. 👍

Wow John.....hello 😊 what a fantastic video and l do hope we can see more like this 👌 explaining the set ups, marks, sea depth and the rest has really been so helpfull...fantastic thank you. As for the fish lm thinking they must be the preetyist fish in our waters, the still picture at the end of that beautiful Wass was amazing....maybe you could put all the best together and make a 2022 calendar.....you can definitely put me down for one 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
- I may do that, I will put all of the photos together and get people to vote for which is the best for each month. 😊
Will definitely be tieing up some of those drop shot rigs, with various hook sizes, thanks John......and those were a couple of cracking Wrasse. 🎣🦖

Greetings from Switzerland. Love your channel. Haven’t done much sea fishing in the last 15 years; my beach casting gear is 30 years old; ABU 6500 etc etc. Like you, I call lure fishing “spinning” . About 10 years ago I invested in some Japanese lures, a Daiwa Certate 3000 and some new lure rods. I prefer my old 11ft Daiwa spinning rod, Shimano bait runner 5000, J13s and Chug Bugs! Soft plastics are new to me. Thanks for the tips. Hopefully next year, I can wet a line in the salt. In the meantime, it’s alpine streams for trout. Tight lines

I like your teaching style. I'm a very methodical learner who likes it when someone explains why they are doing it a certain way and then say's different ways that may work as well. Charles Dowding does it the same way on his gardening channel. Love to see you do a youtube crossover someday with Mr. Santore from Crime Pays and Botony Doesn't, be a fun mix of personalities as well as knowledge sharing.

got me looking back m8 a Ballen I caught of the brig at Filey chocolate brown with bright orange markings they do have some fantastic coloring don't they, not bad eating either

Extremely informative as always. I am an old farmer who has worn Wellingtons all his life (including through Australian and Portuguese summers) never boots, but the way you are so sure-footed on wet rocks makes me jealous. Do you have a favourite brand of Wellie, use studs of any sort, or just confident of keeping your grip?
- Haha. No mate, these cost me about £5 from the local garden centre. I end up wearing the treads out I wear them so often. We grew up in wellies out in the woods or on the beach. 😊
@@TheFishLocker Thanks. I buy cheap Portuguese made ones. I cannot see the point in paying a lot of money for any sort of wellie when you know you are going to wear them out in a matter of months.
A little story - I have heard they were invented in Portugal. The Battle of Buçaco was the first time Napoleon's troops were beaten in Iberia. Rumour has it that Wellington had our lads kitted out with his own type of "wellie" whilst the French had the usual boots. It is very damp and slippery on the slopes around Buçaco.
Just gave me an idea of what to use the the container my vitamin c tablets comes in, my lures 😂 never to old to learn something 👍
- Keep it simple mate. 😉🎣

Could remember the name of the color, for your rainbow lure. The Great Lakes color is wonder bread. The salmon guys created a whole smattering of spoon names.
- Here it is called a Candy King. Haha.
LOL. Wonder Bread loafs I remember them!
Great video as always, unfortunately wrasse stocks are facing a grim future. Here in Ireland in the last 4 years 1.6 million wrasse have being caught from a couple of areas on the west coast to be used as cleaner fish in commercial salmon farms. Scottish salmon farms are going through their stocks and now taking wrasse from the south west of England.
In Norway they go through 10 million “cleaner fish a year” (lumpfish and wrasse) and wrasse stocks have collapsed in parts of Norway
- This was a problem but it isn't allowed any more here. They are making a recovery.
@@TheFishLocker Glad to hear it 👍 the west coast of Ireland has some great wrasse fishing, hopefully the stocks here will be given some protection before it’s too late
@@TheFishLocker Interesting John - I knew it was going on locally but didn't know it had been stopped. Good news.
