I'm fortunate to be able to say that this my home turf, or rather 'home surf' :) Like Alan said here, I 'stick on a Toby'. The only lure I use now as, for me the wide world of lures can become too distracting - for me anyhow. I too like to use the vintage reels like I had as a lad, so this video has been great viewing. I didnt 'even realise that the Garfish were still around here in November.
As mentioined in the video, but so worth repeating, If you do come by to fish on this stretch, please check the tides and how it affects the marks - obvious advice of course, but applies 'here' more than many places. 👍

Always wanted to fish this part of the country. We've sold loads of our weedless teaser rigs to anglers in Pembrokeshire and now I can see why bass fishing is so popular there.

Excellent presentation and as a Welshman and knowing Pembrokeshire the cautionary advice re weather, tides etc is very apt. From my experience you are more in danger from strong offshore winds and wet rocks, so good grip soles are a must!

You are certainly correct about the wet rocks and it would have better if I had mentioned it.. Some boys swear by the Snowbee Rockhopper boots for the terrain.

I bet you have a treasure trove of knowledge from all the years fishing the rivers and coves of our beautiful country. Been taking my 9yr old boy around some of my favourite beats this season scouting for big browns and weve had a very successful season so far.
Its either the Towy or the Tawe tomorrow if the weather is okay. Hope to keep the success going as we search for that once in a lifetime trophy fish. Im just happy to have my son out in nature in the wonderful fresh air instead of infront of a bloody computer screen. He is a super keen young fisherman and is progressing at lightning pace. Teaching him all ive learnt myself over the years. He's inherited that competitive edge that i possess so we always have a little comp between ourselves which adds to the fun of it all.
We are so spoiled here in Wales for unspoilt natural beauty and thats one of the most enjoyable parts of fishing in Wales.
Thanks for the tips from Taff in Carmarthenshire 😊

If it’s hard to get down to fish it’s usually less fished , places to get down easy are usually battered with less fish. It’s like wreck fishing on an unmarked wreck , it’s a gold mine with big fish . Soon as it’s known people over fish it and takes years to bring stocks back up if it does recover , most times big fish never return back there .

Absolutely. We have hundreds of great marks in Wales, but if you do find a 'gold mine' keep it to yourself.

@@FishingInWales yeah i learned the hard way , I seen other guys blank time after time so out of empathy you let them on to a honey hole but say” keep it to yourself “ . Next week you go only to see them and 3 mates smashing in loads and they say “ I just turned up and these came after me “ .

Is he using mono or braid on that reel, sure its mono.

I have used braid but tend to stick these days to mono. It may not cast as far but is far less troublesome with no nightmare tangles.

@@alanparfitt3731 I am looking to try some sea fishing now I have more time. I have just found the same reel you are using and I bought some Toby lures years ago that I have not used. Can you tell me what set up you use for a Toby. What weight lure, do you use a swivel on the lure or up the line somewhere, do you swap the treble for a single etc? It’s all new to me, so the advice would be appreciated.

    • @alanparfitt3731

@@MichaelDavies-kt7re Hi, When it comes to Toby weights then a 20gm. is the first choice as it casts really well. If you fish shallow water then a 12gm is a better choice. Toby's will eventually can put kinks in your line (one reason I prefer mono as it is cheap to replace..). A swivel a foot or so above the lure helps but it has to be a quality swivel. I attach two small swivels either side of a split ring. From the split ring itself hang a small length of twisted lead wire. Works a treat. Another tip with a Toby is to add an extra split ring at the hook end which helps prevent the hook levering out from a fish. Treble of single is up to you. Toby's are not always the answer so take alternatives to use.Hope this helps

@@alanparfitt3731 Much appreciated Alan. I think my Toby’s are 7gms so I will hunt down some 20s. What’s your second favourite choice lure? This will save me buying lures that don’t work. -Made that mistake with my fly fishing. I live down in Chepstow so will have to find out where to go for first outings before venture to your lovely part of Wales.
