Been to 4 podiatrists to get a diagnoses for my chronic ankle spraining and inflamation. Not a one gave insight like this vid. They recommend surgery , braces, inserts, and orthotic shoes. Instead I started wearing barefoot trail runners, and walking around the house in socks. I retired my hiking boots and upped my hiking to 10 miles a week. This vid as well as vids from other 'tube experts has shown me how to understand my ankle problem.

It's interesting how much these barefoot shoes resemble the English "plimsoll shoe" we used to wear for physical education at school. They had thin flexible soles too.

The best explanation on ankles and exercises ive seen on the internet. Very well explained. I need to find some minimal shoes to practice running in and wearing around more. Will try the other things too. I have seen improvements in my form when i run and more stability and strength. These exercises are so so important for running and sports!

I started wearing Vibram 5 Fingers while lifting - I noticed that squatting actually used my feet more - my foot actually got thicker as my squat weight increased. It really opened my eyes to how much we 'hobble' our feet with shoes.

Here’s a quick test to show how important the feet are. Like in the video, squeeze your glutes. Yes, your arches may come off the ground but it’s not due to the feet contracting. Now elevate your heel on one leg, drive into the ball of your big toe, and curl your toes. Put your hand on your butt and you should feel your foot arch contract and your glutes fire.

There are Y'tubes answering this question. The answer is ff wearers tend to turn their feet inward in order to keep the ff from falling off. Resulting in a pigeon toed gait. Same for those wearing sliders.Over time ff and sliders are damaging to ones walk. Wear a sandal with an ankle strap and toe box so that the sandal stays on effortlessly

Just got my first pair of barefoot shoes this week. Loving them so far! I do have a question and hope you can help. I have always been flat footed, and I’m wondering if it will be harmful to wear them on concrete/modern surfaces for long periods of time??
I am taking a balance/strengthening/core class at my local YMCA, with an amazing instructor who incorporates all of the things you’ve demonstrated, so I know that I am on the right track - just really wondering about harder surfaces when doing every day tasks that require a lot of walking.

Agreed, like any major change in routine baby steps are better for your body long term. Alternate between your new barefoot shoes and the ones your body has been used to gradually increasing the time spent in the barefoot shoes to allow your body to adjust - then you are good to go 😊 I solely use barefoot now and couldn’t imagine squeezing my feet back into traditional shoes ever again 👍

I' d like to comment with my not perfect english but allthough with my knowledge about the real reason of growing painfull bunion what is weekened inner organs. In the biggest roll is the spleen. If you suffer of a painfull bunion, take contact with some chinese doctor or chinese therapist who gives you exact knoweldge and advice instead me, how to threat also the cause and get away the possible pain you have. In first place the low inflammation in your body is important to keep in control. Ofcorse the physical treatments are also important to take care of ! I am keeping my self in balance with six autoimmune disorders by only one medical pill per day, Thyroxin. Other five disorders I can keep in control with right food, foodsupllements, Oxyrich , daily Shindo meridianstretching and selfthreating, once a month Shindo meridianmassage. And open greatfull mind. Take care! I wish all a wonderdull life!
