mate i watch your videos because of your personality and how you and your apprentice interact with us so it mostly about you we want you to talk , its good to see the job being done right , i have been it the wood working industry for 30 years as a cabinetmaker and joiner so i have done most things , its a relief to see a young lad doing a first rate job these days and bringing another lad up with him , thank you
Racked a few vans out over the years and one thing I always do is create a false floor. In my current hi cube transit custom the floor is about 12” depth split into 3 levels. Bottom level is divided into sections for storage of different lengths of timber (skirts, floor boards, 3x2, mop stick etc) and is similar to your level storage idea where as the dividers are shorter nearest the side door so as I can flick out any shorter lengths that migrate to the bulkhead. Middle level is for full 8x4 sheets of ply/OSB and top level is for upvc trim, cabinet end panels etc. This system allows me to have plenty of spare materials in the floor + racking either side of the van and still have room to carry a few doors/sheets etc in between the racks. One thing I will say is that no matter how much I plan my racking, it constantly evolves as my work changes and different tools come and go and I’m currently head scratching about how I can incorporate a slide out work bench into my false floor 😁
I plan racking a van with a compositing toilet since I'm not a professional carpenter I am just a diy guy but I deliver mail and I cant always stop to drive 4 miles into town. You gave me some ideas cheers from Alabama USA.
Your videos are rather well put together/edited/produced. You show the vital steps to what your building, and you explain the more complex aspects. In compared to other content creators you are way more succinct and brief in the sense that when you are showing how to build something you don't waffle. Also for people like myself who are currently finishing secondary school, and are looking at a carpentry apprenticeship next September, and who want some how/to knowledge, your channel/videos certainly show that. Well Done and Keep up the good work, the trade needs more attentive to detail workers like you.
Very good job. Please do alittle narration on your new videos. Silent videos don't teach you how to do the work. Also even if you hated doing the van remember there is a market for you to build out a van for someone else. You have a talent so use it. Mike from Alabama, USA
its about time you tackled sorting your van out,i honestly dont know why you took so long .you will see the benefits very quickly knowing where everything is saves a lot of wasted time searching for tools can be spent on production not to mention possible damage to expensive equipment.looks so much better and more professional when you arrive at a customers house.
@@ttdowgcarpentry2390 man you are just a humble, great guy and I really enjoy your videos. I'm not really in the trades, but I do a lot of what you are doing and sometimes it's challenging because of the awkwardness of the space or project. Cheers.
Literally just picked up a larger van this week, SWB Transit & can't wait to get this racking underway! Hopefully see you around as we're only based in Coventry!
Been subbed for maybe a year now and love your content a lot, you always have great attention to detail and care about the job clearly! Love the racking design good job 👍🏼🎄
Looking forward to doing a proper racking job once I upgrade to a larger transit. I've been making do with just the big void in my Peugeot Partner for nearly a year, but it's a nightmare trying to find tools and materials when it gets horribly cluttered. And it wastes time and money with trying to find my gear or buying duplicate materials because they are never to hand. But for the time being I'm going to make do with some very basic racking in my crappy little transit.
I like to watch your videos and find them interesting as a retired chippy and to be honest there is a lot to be said about saying what you earn, it's inspiring to people who want to move into the trade and secondly I never knew what charge when I was doing private jobs, keep up the good work lad👍
This is the first of yours I have watched and now subbed. Racked out a few vans in my time and it never gets easier with time. Each new vehicle is so different. Well done. Bob (Weston super Mare)
your to patient as ivan says get rid ,yes an extra pair of hands but you get used to working alone and teaching him is costing you time you could be producing especially if your boy is not improving@@ttdowgcarpentry2390
Haha im only 3 mins in im an electrician needing to sort my van out lol. My man here has got too much money lol just busting in the b&q 8x4plys like theyre nothing lolololol! Good vid so far bro looking forward to watching the rest
I like the out takes. Maybe plan what your going to say before you say it. I think because your growing you business and channel at the same time this will all be a learning curve. So just keep working on it. People love storage ideas, custom furniture, home renovations. So maybe more of that. I know hanging doors gets a bit old.
I actually think it's better when you talk throughout. I understand you have a day job, and the fact that it can be a lot of work putting videos together, but maybe talk through some of the shorter videos. Either way, I will still watch your videos. Great design/build of the storage rack too.
Van racking looking great! Would be nice to see some dust extraction out the front for your neighbor's benefit. What really surprised me was paying £24 for 2 tubes of adhesive - it might be worth bulk buying multiple tubes at a time for discount i.e 12 tubes stixall £45ish and saves time as you have them on hand when needed 👍🏻 subscribed to your new channel 🔨
Carpentry is an amazing skill to watch, I would set cameras in the room of work at higher locations plus add a little more lighting, at the start of the project do a signature start for video something that is you which creates a trend for yourself. Include more long Timelapse’s with intermediate breaks where you narrate where you are at that stage. The more raw the video is in regards to how live it can feel the better so making mistakes and showing them allows people to relate to you which creates a personal investment for those watching. I would also recommend including something which you do in each video that’s unique which is possibly controversial to build discussion between the videos also !! Generally think your doing an amazing job so keep it up fella !!
A little talking works better than none at all. Information on what your doing with sizes and fixing types is good too. What size ply did you use for the racking? You mentioned 6mm for the floor. The fails at the end was a good touch too..👌
Great to see so much planning and effort going in to it! Bound to make things much easier from now on. A word of warning on the lower door panel... If you ever need to replace the lock on the rear doors, it will need to come off. Looks fantastic though!
Hi bud how do you deal with van security? As a gas engineer I have had my van robbed 5 time now, its a constant worry were you park it on jobs the same at home, pigs don't even come out. You have a lot off tools so this must be a concern? Great channel by the way, love you openness and honesty Cheers
You're at another level! hello from AZ USA.

Great concept! I was looking for this exact system, Thanks for sharing!
Well done mate your level storage is a winner I will do the same in my van 👌👍
thanks mate really appreciate it
The ceiling needs insulation to keep levels up there, the silvered bubblewrap will be fine.
Decent bro, I like it. Wry difficult to get a van exactly how you want it.
One of, if not the most satisfying build videos I've seen! Good luck with the new future content mate

Looks bang on, only difference I would make is put your shelf’s at an angle that way you don’t need stoppers for things sliding forward
I find a 1 in 5 angle (11°) works well but if you catch a pothole in a corner stuff still hits the floor.
Another excellent video mate. Iook forward to seeing your new channel. ..
Love it mate. 👍🏻😊
thankyouu
Van racking look nice mate… good one 👍

But so difficult, I used 1.5 hour on my first door. Step away, and tried again after 1 hour. Fixt after 20 minutes. 😅

Be careful with the plunge saw dropped mine the other and knocked it out of alignment. No repair shop would touch it so had to buy a new one .😢 haha
